Girls Night Partying

Do you ever find yourself in front of the mirror with your kitchen scissors because you see your friend earlier in the day and she has the cutest bangs ever but you are too impatient to make a hair appointment so you decide to cut them yourself?   Yeah me too.  I continue to do this even though I have messed up my hair more than a dozen times but the only problem is now I don’t have my sister close by to fix my mistakes (she does hair:)

Photo 1 2

Really, hoodies are probably the most comfortable things in the world.

That same friend with the REALLY cute bangs sent out an email a few weeks ago to some girls seeing if they wanted to do a theme dinner party once a month.  I think I emailed her back within 9 seconds because that is SO my favorite kind of thing to do.  The theme last night was Greek food.  (PS I am already counting down the seconds until we do a dessert theme party because that means I get to eat at least 6 desserts in one night.

We started off with pita bread, pita chips, homemade hummus and an olive spread.

Photo 2 1

Followed by an awesome salad and a smoothie type thing that was sugary which means it was my favorite.

Photo 3

This was Brooke’s first girls night and she really loved it.  Her hair isn’t as spiky as usual so I am going to go to the beauty supply store today to get some special baby hair gel so that we can really bring out her spiky potential.

Photo 5

I probably should have gotten out my ginormous camera but I just stuck with the phone to take pictures because I guess it isn’t normal to take pictures of all of your food but i can take sneaky iPhone pictures without everyone thinking I am crazy.

I had double of everything, i learned last night that Greek food is my favorite.

Photo 4

These are the bangs I wanted.  Not only does she have awesome bangs but she makes killer desserts.

Photo 1 2 copy

She made chocolate baklava.  Pretty professional if you ask me.

Photo 2 1 copy

I could have eaten the whole pan but decided to share some with the other girls.  She sent me home with some baklava for Billy but I am still debating on whether or not I should tell him about them.

REPRESENTING TARGET!  Matching other people is one of my favorite things ever and poor Brooke is going to love having a mom that is constantly buying us matching outfits.  99% of my clothing is from Target, you just can’t beat a $6 shirt.

Photo 3 copy

I am currently writing this at midnight.  I took a 2 hour nap with Brooke earlier and so I am wide awake.  I tried to get Billy to stay up with Brooke and I for the 30 Rock marathon that we are having but he says that law school is tiring or something? Excuses, excuses.

——————————————————————————-

Other Target clothing lovers out there?  Where does the majority of your wardrobe come from?

Do you eat hummus often?  Favorite kind?  Do you like Greek food?

What was the last tv show that you watched?

-I am hooked on 30 Rock.

What is the most exciting thing about your Friday?

Mom, what are you doing up so early?!? You, me, girls night on thanksgiving break? Miss you!!!

Reply

Your mom’s comment is so cute :)! Looks like such a fun night- definitely something I love to do too! And hell yes I love hummus…who doesn’t :)!

Reply

You are right… How could you not love that incredible stuff?!? Hope you are having an amazing day!

My friend has bangs that I also love, but have been way to scared to give bangs to myself.. Mostly because I am lazy and only get my hair cut about twice a year and there is a lot of maintenance that goes with bangs.

I never bought my clothes from target, but lately I’m seeing more and more girls wearing cute outfits from there so I’m going to check it out soon!- Yes I LOVE hummus along with lots of other greek foods, especially the desserts!

This Friday, I’m just excited that the weekend is finally here!!!

Reply

I watched The Office premier last night – I just never get tired of that show.
Also, I am headed to Trader Joe’s for the first time ever and am going to swing by Lululemon to exchange some running shorts on the way. Then Friday Night Lights at the most expensive high school stadium in the nation. I love these kinds of days.

Reply

Ahhhh let me know what you think of tjs! Such a great day! Do you miss Michael on the office?

Reply

Happy Friday Janae!!!!

Haha I used to do the same things w/my bangs;-) Most of my clothes come from The Limited, I get some awesome deals there.

Have a fabulous Friday and I hope you can get Brooke’s spiky hair back.

Reply

I love the limited! I need to find one of those around here! Hope you have a great day too!

Reply

Last show I watched = General Hospital. Love it! :)

Your girls’ night looks like such fun!

Reply

Ha ha, I cut my own bangs all of the time, then have to fess up when I actually get it professionally done.

That dessert looks amazing!

Reply

Yes!!! It is always awkward because they ask me, “who cut your hair last?”

Reply

Target rocks my sock! But it’s hard to bring home a paycheck when you work there. ;)

Happy Friday!

Reply

I thought Mexican food was your favorite! :)

We love hummus over here. I still want to make my own but am scared for some reason. I even bought the tahini for it, but have yet to make it.

I’m hooked on 30 Rock too! I’m currently watching season 4 and hopefully, when my husband and I finish watching Wings, we can watch 30 Rock together. However, since it takes jabs political and morally, I’m not sure if my husband will like it as much as I do.

Most exciting thing? We’re having the missionaries over. Other than that…nada. We’re kind of lame home-body people.

What is that white smoothie drink you mentioned?

Reply

oh yea, I’ve cut my bangs too many times and always regret it, then vow to never cut them again…and then I do…I haven’t cut them since before summer, so we’ll see how long that lasts.

Reply

Target is FINALLY coming to Canada. I think the first few stores open in the beginning of 2013. Of course I’m now living in Europe though so I will have to wait to go Target-crazy until I go back home. I love hummus and all Greek food, to be honest though I rarely watch tv – a few hours per month. Tonight I’m headed to Germany for the Oktoberfest festival! Munich is pretty close to my university here in The Netherlands. I’ve never been before so I’m pretty excited! Enjoy your weekend :)

Reply

With you on the haircuts — except I lopped 8 inches off mine a few weeks ago. Yeah, crazy! But I love it so much better now!!
It’s easy to see why you both bought/wore the same top. Very cute! :)

Reply

I’m picturing you sending that first picture to your sister and her being like “nooooooooooo!” :)

I love greek food so much! We have greek-style pizza here and it’s AMAZING.

Reply

It looks like Brooke is giving the shakra in the picture above! Too funny.

Last show I watched was How I Met Your Mother. I love that show, and it never gets old. As far as my wardrobe, it will be changing soon not just because it is fall, but I am pregnant as well in my second trimester. Any ideas on maternity wear??

Reply

I love Target clothes! Love Greek food too and am actually going to a Greek Festival tonight. Looking forward to some delicious Greek desserts. Have a great Friday :)

Reply

Ohhh all that food looks amazing. My husband LOVES baklava…should try making the chocolate kind.

I love Target and always hit in up when in the States (i live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada). The majority of my clothing is from Lulu Lemon…i’m a little addicted LOL.

Last show I watched was…well I was flipping between Seinfeld and the Giants football game.

Have a wonderful Friday with your beautiful daughter:)

Reply

That food looks incredible, the baklava especially!!!

Best thing about my Friday is that I got up at 5.30 am to fit my long run in for the weekend. Enormously proud of this. Heading down to the apartment gym treadmill now for the first half hour because it’s dark…not a fan of the TMs!! But I can’t wait for 8am when it’s all over!!!

Reply

I love the themed dinner party idea!

I also love Target clothes – I think I have their tank tops in every single color!

I love hummus – I just recently tried the spinach and artichoke flavor and it was so good!

Have a great Friday!

Reply

I almost bought that shirt too! That style shirt is on clearance at my Target for $5.60 or something like that. I bought two other ones but might go back for more. They are really soft and comfy. I love target.

My exciting thing for Friday is picking up my packet for my half marathon I’m running tomorrow morning. I really really really want to break 2 hours but I’m not sure thats realistic right now. It’ll be close. I was out for most of July with an injury which really seemed to set me back a lot. We will see.

Reply

I love Target’s clothes!

I tried hummus once and didn’t really like it. I should probably try a different kind or something, but right now I’ll stick with just not eating it. And I’ve never really had Greek food, but I’m skeptical that I would like it…

My husband and I are working our way through Prison Break on netflix.

No exciting Friday plans for us…

Reply

I love that bang look, but hate it after I do it because they are always in my face, hard to run with and take time to style! You look great with bangs though. I LOVE target clothes. I rarely leave there without something. Sad to say, the majority of my clothes I actually wear are running stuff, I have a lot from target and also old navy, but they can be pricey too!
I love hummus, so good. That baklava looks to die for.
I’m happy I already got my 10 miles in for the day. And I might go get some new pure flows today, and/or pure connects. I’m in love.
Have a great day!!!

I saw this on Pinterest a few days ago. Maybe this will work for you!

Reply

What kind of curling iron do you use?? I need those curls!

Reply

It is called an instyler and I got it online.. It is pretty cool!

Reply

I absolutely LOVE greek food! And my clothes are mostly from Old Navy, H&M and Forever 21… Can you tell I live on a budget?

Reply

I’m totally digging Scandal. It’s the only thing that’s on when I get home from work on Thursdays anyway :)

Reply

Holy beautiful baklava! Looks like a wonderful night. :)

Reply

Awwwr! Your mom’s comment just melted my heart a little bit. So sweet.

I’ve taken scissors to my bangs before, and it’s like flipping a coin… half the time I love how it turns out, and half the time I don’t. I blame it on being nervous about poking my eye out with the scissors… totally cramps my style ;)

Reply

I eat hummus all the time! There’s always some of it in the fridge. My favorite variety is probably roasted red pepper.

Reply

Greek food looks awesome! And kuddos to you for having the courage to cut your own hair. I could never do that! By the way, can I just say how impressed I am that you’ve manage to move a couple of states away and in one month have already made friends! I moved two and a half hours away from home 4 years ago and I still haven’t!

Reply

Love the comment from your mom. Too cute.

What a fun night! Greek food is so good. I could have eaten that whole pan of baklava too. My friend made that and some phylo cheese tarts for her turn at our baking/cooking club and I seriously ate like 15 of those. Gyros are probably my fave Greek food. Our best bites has a pretty killer recipe for a Greek couscous salad as well.

I should have exercised last night, became I didn’t have time during my day, but instead I watched HIMYM and ate ice cream. Almost the same. Almost. I just got back from RIPPED though so I am telling myself I am okay ;) I wanted to watch the new Parks and Rec, but my husband would have been mad if I didn’t wait for him.

Reply

I cut my bangs when I was little and for some reason thought it would be a good idea to hide the hair in a jar in the basement. That didn’t go over so well for me. I’ll stick to never cutting my hair again…but if I do, I’ll be sure to continue to put the hair in a jar and hide it in the basement.

Reply

Girls nights are so much fun… havent had one in forever! I used to do the same thing with my bangs! Looks like you do a better job then me. And I have the exact same 6 dollar target shirt! I love that its long!

Reply

Does Target make $6 long shirts to fit over pregnancy bellies?! Because if they do, I’M THERE as soon as I get in the states (would Target hurry up and open their doors in Canada already – it’s coming soon!!).

That baklava looks heavenly!!!! PS – I love YOUE bangs. I think my sleeping habits have changed so much recently because my hair is so thinned out from the front from sleeping, so bangs and any hair in the front stands no chance of ever looking nice. Period.

Reply

That is so cute, that your Mom was the first to post.
I would say Old Navy for clothes. Or Costco even.
I like Greek food and especially hummus. And the bread you can eat with it.
We just starting watching season 3 of 24. I know, we are incredibly behind since the whole show is over.
Friday is lunch with Mom and not sure what is happening later. I also let myself sleep an extra 45 minutes!

The Kidless Kronicles

Reply

I love target clothes but most of mine come from Kohls. Can’t beat their sale prices.

I cannot cut anything straight so I have convinced my husband to trim my hair/bangs when it has to be done right this second. He does a pretty good job too.

Reply

I have that shirt in the blue/tan color!! It makes me think of my favorite shirt I got at a thrift store in high school and wore all the time.
I also love hummus. I was hooked on the garlic kind until I tried roasted red pepper. Original is great too, and it’s super easy to make your own!

Reply

I love cutting my own hair! It’s super long right now so I can get away with my own cutting job, but I’m trying to fight the urge to do bangs again. They’re always annoying to me once I have them.

Reply

I love Greek food! So cool that you girls have decided to do something cool like that. I might just have to steal the idea, because that is something too cool not to do, especially for a food lover like me. I am a huge Target fan. Most of my clothes are from Target or Old Navy, at least until my clothing budget increases. My favorite place to shop for clothes is Nordstroms. I like hummus so much, that I actually took some with me to eat while waiting in line to pick up my son from school yesterday. I especially love eating it with baby carrot sticks. My favorite is roasted red pepper hummus, the spicier (is that a word) the better. I guess the last TV show I watched is Strawberry Shortcake with my oldest daughter. She is obsessed and everytime I watch it, it makes me crave a smoothie. I’m especially excited because today I pick up my registration packet for my first 10K. I’m only 36 days away until my half marathon! To say I’m excited is an understatement.

Reply

Apparently Target bought out a chain of stores in Canada, so they’re coming here soon! Then I’ll see what the hype is about :)

Reply

Your Mom is so adorable! Love your matching t-shirts. Target is a great place to shop but I find that between Target and Old Navy I purchase most of the casual clothes for our family. So glad you like hummus, I love it it, probably my favorite food:) So if you really like it you will really like homemade hummus with homemade tahini, roasted red pepper flavor! But I also love mexican food, really love it! Speaking of which did you get the recipe for the mexican taco bake? I sent it on your contact thing.

Have a great Friday!!!!

Reply

Themed dinner parties omg I wish I lived near you all! That is so fun! that food looks great too.

Reply

I love love love Target clothes! Sadly our Target is AWFUL (it’s known as the Seventh Circle of Hell) so I usually try to get in and out in the least amount time of possible which means no perusing the clothes section. But I still do when I go home!!

Reply

Yum! I LOVE Greek food! I’m pretty sure it’s my favorite.
I also love Target for SURE. Having the Target Redcard makes me spend more than I need to because I tell myself, “Hey, you’re saving 5% on everything!”

Reply

I LOVE TARGET! Most of my clothing and shoes are from there! They have the best stuff and prices! I also get a lot of my work out clothes from there because I really like the Champion brand and it’s much cheaper than other things (even though I still really love Nike dri-fit)!

Ummm you look amazing BTW! I still cannot believe that you only had a baby a little over a month ago…you are gorgeous girl!

Oh and I love Greek food too :) Do y’all have Zoe’s in Cali? I feel like you would really really like it! It’s not fast food, it’s more equivalent to a Jason’s Deli or Which Wich kind of place, but you go up to the counter and order like that! It has the best Greek food ever!!

Reply

Target is DA BOMB! :)

I love hummus… roasted red pepper for me… mmm….

GO ON – that’s the new show I’m addicted to – LOVE IT!!!

Reply

Did you notice that Brooke is doing the hang loose sign w/ her hand :) She is so cute I just want to hold her for hours on end. I’m so happy you have lots of friends out there!!!

Reply

Hahahah I didn’t notice that!! Thanks for pointing it out!

Reply

Ps I get to see you soon!

Reply

Love that shirt! Target has some of the best clothes.
And I love the monthly dinner party – especially since it has a theme! I am all about themes :-)

Reply

Hummus……..ymmmmmmm……my favorite is roasted red pepper.
You are right with the cute factor of your friends bangs. I am about to go into the school b-room with a pair of scissors.

Reply

That baklava looks amazing…cute bangs too! I love Target, but White House Black Market is my favorite…a bit more pricey though. Very excited to get this weekend started! My daughter and I are having a girls weekend complete with facials and massages.

Reply

Oh my gosh I LOVE Greek food with a passion deep within my soul. If you’re ever in San Diego I’ll take you out for some deliciousness.

Reply

Target has the best clothes. I actually just went there this morning for some maternity t-shirts. :)

Reply

I used to attempt to cut my own bangs too. I finally gave that up after making them look like I did it with my eyes closed every time.

I love target! Plan on hitting it up tomorrow!

Not often, but I do love just the origional flavor. So good with pita chips. I haven’t really had Greek food, so I’m not sure.

I watched Glee last night. It was hilarious with Brittany pretending to hit rock bottm (a la B.Spears style), just so she could have a comeback!

Cake decorating for my friends daughter’s 2nd bday. then hitting up a pole showcase (Promise it’s different than a strip club!).

Reply

I love Target clothes! Cute and affordable. I also am always stalking sales at Old Navy and TJ Maxx.

I also always want to cut my bangs, but something is holding me back….

Reply

You’re such a rock star being out with such an infant! I stress out planning things around her feeding schedule (I’m nursing too). How do you do it?

Reply

I actually pump too so I give her a bottle when I go to stuff like this. I totally understand though… It can be really stressful!

Reply

I have that Target shirt too!! Haha, got it for only $5 ;)

Reply

I love target but we don’t have them in Canada, yet, so I only get to go when I take a trip to the states and when I do watch out! I normally come out with about half the store :)
I love hummus and greek food in general, I actually just made a raw zucchini hummus that was to die for! sometimes I find chickpeas can hurt my tummy so I thought i’d give it a go and I think I prefer it.
my always TV obsession is anything on the food network… I don’t care what it is but I can not turn that channel off :)

Reply

Love Greek food and now i”m inspired to start a girl’s night of cooking of my own! Pretty much my entire wardrobe is from Target or Kohl’s.

Reply

Well color me a jealous hussy. I LOVE greek food! I love gyros (lamb or chicken), feta sauce, hummus, greek dressing all of it is just spectacular!!
Also, love target. The closest one is 2 hours away and I get overly excited when I walk in after a long absence and start to cry and swoon at the sight of all those reasonably priced items!! Want to go soon and get some new workout tops and hopefully find a decent sports bra on the cheap.

Reply

Just bought that shirt at target last weekend, great minds think alike haha :) Not a huge fan of Greek food mainly because I’m not a fan of feta cheese. I’m looking forward to a run today, it’s been a crazy week and haven’t been able to get one in!

Reply

I almost bought that exact shirt. Super cute.

And you look so fantastic! I seriously can’t believe you gave birth!! You look way too good to have a baby not even 1 month old!

Reply

Wow! Thanks Stephanie!

Reply

Yum! Greek food is my absolute favorite! Here’s the easiest recipe ever for you: Marinate chicken breasts in Kraft Greek vinaigrette then grill. It’s so good. ;)

Reply

Greek food is amazing! I don’t have it very often, which I think makes it more special :) The last time we ate Greek was in Madrid! It was fantastic.

I napped yesterday and had an early night. I must have been a zombie because I didn’t even notice one of my colleagues wasn’t in work yesterday. Am almost back to human today.

Reply

You are looking great!!! How do you feel your recovery is going?

Hey! In fact, could you do an update on post-delivery? Not really focusing on “body image” nor times/mile splits but more like “body conscious”. ie how does your form feel? joints? Any differences with your core? Dealing with fatigue? Is it difficult to fully engage/concentrate when there’s a pull to see what Brooke’s doing?

Does that make sense?

Reply

Absolutely love this idea! Yes I will for sure!!!

Reply

I recently found your blog & I love it! I’m also obsessed with Target! It’s impossible to leave that store without way more than you planned on buying :)

Reply

Hey Lindsay! Thank you so much for your comment! Target really is the best!

Reply

I was just telling my husband you’re my online BFF now that I’m a stay-at-home-mom for a while. He called me a stalker…I pointed out that our babies are around the same age (my babies will be 3 months tomorrow, though I was due August 6), we are both teachers, we both love to run, and we both love to eat. He reiterated the stalker point. Then today I learn you have a love of Target clothing and Greek food (I type this after responding to my brother-in-law’s e-mail about the family hummus recipe….), you have a bang habit and need I point out our names are oddly similar! Coincidence? I think not!!! Andrew continues to call me a stalker but I pointed out he isn’t up with me at 3a while I’m pumping so Janae will have to be the one to entertain me. P.S. Thanks for the idea to watch the Biggest Looser on the treadmill. It’s so inspiring and whenever I watch it at night I always want to go work out after so Netflix’ing it on the treadmill really helps keep me going!! Next time you’re in the NYC area and you’re interested in meeting up with a stalker reader and blog fan, let me know!

Reply

This comment made my day! You are not a stalker and we are bffs! I love it! Gotta love the 3 am feedings/ blog reading! I do the same thing! Next time I am in NYC we are playing! So happy you are enjoying biggest loser!

Reply

Having a Sabra hummus snack pack as I read! I usually stick with the plainer flavors but change up brands. Greek food is probably my favorite type of cuisine.

H&M is a big closet staple for me.

Reply

I LOVE baklava! it’s so freaking good. And that whole dinner idea sounds amazing. How fun?!

Love the matchy-matchy. Gap/BR/JCrew/Express/and all fitness clothes labels are def staples around here!

Reply

I always cut my own hair…and it’s always a disaster! Lucky for us it does grow! Too bad for all my Barbies as a kid…their hair doesn’t grow :P

Reply

Cute bangs! I think you did a solid job! I had Weez (my hubs) trim my hair a few weeks ago.. he did pretty decent! I actually made a ridiculous video about it and blogged about it. It was fun! Anyhoo, the most exciting thing about my Friday is that tonight is Game Night with all our friends and then this weekend, we’re celebrating our 1-yr wedding anniversary! Yay!

Reply

Lol. Sounds like a fun ladies night! :) I have so got to do this kind of theme party! I cannot rock bangs to save my life. My hair is too poofy. You ladies make it looks so fun though!

I want a piece of that baklava. 1/2 my wardrobe is from Target. And watched the opening of The Office last night. Nearly spit out my water laughing at some points.

Tonight I am cleaning house and busting out the slow cooker. Family party tomorrow :)

Reply

What a fun idea! Think I’ll steal it ;) Nice job getting Brooke started on the girl’s nights early… it really is essential in life!

Reply

I also cut my own bangs in junior high – a complete distaster. . . oh I hate to even THINK about it. LOL. I love that the first comment on your post was from your Mom – so adorable!

Reply

I always cut my bangs! And then my hair dresser always gets onto me. But I’m highly impatient when it comes to beauty things, so I’m all about going in head first and then thinking whether its a good or bad idea LOL.

Little Miss Brooke is getting cuter every day…if thats even possible! :-)

Reply

OHMYGOSH! I wore that shirt YESTERDAY!! Which, I think, means that we wore it on the same day if this is a post about last night, right? CRAZY! ;)

Reply

OMG I loooooove matching people, too!!! zack will literally turn around and change if he sees that we are even slightly matching, which makes me sad. boo :( Target is definitely my favorite place EVER!! We’re actually going there today, yay! You should check out Trader Joe’s for hummus- it is sooooo good!!

Reply

I love Target….. especially their clothes. My 11 year old is 3 inches taller than me and she fits into the juniors department…you just can’t beat it! And don’t get me started on the toddler clothes, just about all of their baby-toddler clothing came from target as my girls were and are growing up..especially the Osh Kosh line. The kids bedding. I could go on. But I love Target.

I love Hummus. I always have it in my fridge. I make my own.

Last TV show…rerun of NCIS :) LOL.

Most exciting thing about my Friday? I am done with our downstairs! YAY! this has been a month long endeavor of cleaning, and organizing and throwing out. I threw away 50% of our downstairs. It’s wonderful! We got a dumpster from Home Depot and we live on a cauldesac, so we invited our neighbors to use it as well. I simply looked at an item, decided that if I hadn’t used it in the previous year then I was getting rid of it. Alot we took off to Good Will, but alot was thrown out. This next week we begin the upstairs! Then..we get new wood floors. Can’t wait!

Reply

Pita bread and hummus…YUM!
I noticed that you had an InStyler in the bathroom – How do you like it??
I have been itching to get one, but I haven’t been able to find a good review about it yet!

Reply

Love the comment from your ma.
Your bang trim rocks!! I seriously dig it.
My husbands off all weekend which is always so much fun!
I think your dad’s coming this weekend, right??
I’m excited for you guys and he finally get’s to meet Brooke.

Reply

I have the exact same shirt and then more in various colors! They are super comfy and were on sale for $5.

Reply

Omg, Greek food is hands down my favorite. I went there a few years ago and brought a cookbook back that I am always cooking from. 30 rock is hilarious. Liz Lemon cracks me up.

Reply

I totally cut my own bangs over the summer! I had 4 weeks til my next hair appt and I just couldn’t stand it anymore! They turned out pretty good!

Reply

I love Greek food!! My husband and is Greek and he fails to agree with me that they have the best food. I don’t understand this.

Reply

I LOVE greek food and hummus. Today at work the group in charge of cleaning up the staff room did H themed treats (my school starts with an H). They had Ham and hot mustard sandwiches cut into hearts, hot tamales, Hawaiian pizza, hot fudge sundaes, and little cookies that looked like hamburgers! They were nilla wafers with peppermint patties sandwiched in between and yellow and red frosting holding it all together! SO cute and super tasty!

Reply

What a fun idea for a theme dinner! That looks delicious.

Reply

No Greek food for me :( I used to love it, but then a MAJOR pregnancy aversion (mostly to hummus) made me hate it. Almost a year after the aversion started it still turns my stomach.
