The streak is still going strong.

I am warning you in advance that this post is heavy on the baby pictures, sometimes I just can’t help myself.

Our afternoons in a nutshell:

You thought you had crazy hair when you wake up?  Brooke wins that award.

IMG 4330

The streak lives on.

Photo 1

My cutest friend Katie read on the blog that I had ran out of my happiness and realized how big of a tragedy this is and restocked my supply complete with a fresh box of the good stuff (remember you can’t even think about going with the store brand of FMW, the Kellogg’s version is the best).  So after an afternoon full of naps, FMW and getting ready (actually, that is a lie… the getting ready part never happened and who knows if it will happen today either) we made some pizza.

DSC 3911

We had some dough from Whole Foods (I actually like their pizza dough better than TJ’s) that was getting close to its expiration date and so we were forced to make cheesy pizza before it went bad.  My tips to making homemade pizza:

1.  Heat your pizza stone up for an hour before you actually put the pizza on it.  I think this helps make it crispier on the outside.

2.  Put cornmeal on the pizza stone.

3.  Rub that dough in olive oil and pizza seasoning once it is rolled out.

4.  Bake the dough for 4-5 minutes, take it out and then put your toppings on it and then finish cooking it.

We don’t mess around with pizza in this house.

After dinner we drove to go see my Aunt, Uncle and Cousin (I LOVE living so close to them).  In the car Brooke made sure to show off her newest talent,  blowing bubbles.  Billy and I are both very proud because this is very advanced for a newborn.  We expect her to be walking and reading any day now.

IMG 4337

Brooke is spoiled rotten:)  They got her the fanciest swing ever… it has 6 speeds, it plays a million different songs and nature sounds and it is the Rolls-Royce of baby swings.

IMG 4338

A huge success.  The only problem is that the swing no longer gives me the excuse that I can’t put her down and get ready or do anything productive with my life.   Let’s be honest, I will just sit in front of it and stare at her anyways, don’t worry, I won’t be getting anything done.

DSC 3916

I don’t really even know what Marionberry is but I do know that it was delicious and I will probably be having another piece for breakfast.

I have been with you on the FMW streak. They are amazing! Have you tried the Strawberry, Blueberry, of Maple ones?? Seriously good. My current food streak right now is hummus or sunflower seed butter on everything.

I’m making pizza tonight, thanks for the tips! I got this new “wheat free” dough mix I saw at Harris Teeter. It’s made with brown rice flour so we’ll see. I think the best thing is to just load it with veggies and soak it in hot sauce….but I’m weird. lol.

I’m not a huge pie person….I’d have to say the best is probably good old apple pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on it.

your blog makes my mornings :)

brooke and i had the same hair as newborns! the nurses actually slicked mine into a mohawk while i was still in the hospital. she’s going to turn out GREAT (just like me!)

Reply

My current food streak would be the same breakfast smoothie I’ve been enjoying every morning for almost a year now. No run for me today (had a track workout last night), but this morning I went to a spin class and then did abs! Best type of pie? Definitely cannot make that decision – anything!!

Reply

Brooke needs a thought bubble in photo number too – something like, “Please Mom, don’t put this one on the blog!” ;) She is too adorable and there is no such thing as too many photos!

Reply

Yay for more FMW;-) Wow, nice swing–Brooke is so precious, she deserves it.

My oatmeal kick is about 1465 days. I also had a popcorn obsession that lasted about 500 days.

Only a 3 mile run today–I am still working on listening to my body and cutting way back on running, not fun:-(

Reply

Only a 1 box supply of FMW?! Hopefully your mom has told your dad to restock you with FMW when he comes – I would be a nice present for Miss Brooke, right? (momma happy, everyone happy!)

Pizza tip – we like ours thin and crispy so I use parchment paper under it and roll it out. Then bake as usual on the pizza stone. Super thin and crispy and the parchment makes it so there is zero threat of sticking.

Trying an Apple Crisp streak right now – but keep trying for 2 wks of fruit every day. I never seem to make it!

Apple Pie is hands down the best!

need to run 4 miles today – skipped last night and now I have to get out there in mid-60’s and push 2 of my tiny fray boys for my run. *mid-60’s seems so cold somehow in my mind today!

One year, for lunch I ate a PB sandwich, banana, and diet coke every school day from the first day until Christmas break.

Love all the pictures!! Including the pizza, that looks delicious.

Reply

Definitely had one (if not two or three) PB and banana sandwich a day for nearly a year and a half through a section of university. So fabulously yummy + no cooking skills + varsity rowing = amazing PB&Nanner streak. I’m considering starting it back up during marathon training!!
In the taper (four days to the half!), so I probably won’t run today but lots of biking is on the agenda!
Cream pies of all kinds are awesome, but PB pie made by my Grammy and chocobanana cream are definitely at the top of my list!! :)

Reply

Love that pin!

I have a couple of food streaks to share. Right now its yogurt everyday, most likely as part of breakfast. When I was a teacher, I had pb&j for lunch everyday. I don’t know the exact time here but it seemed like forever. Everyone talked about it :) oh and right now its also FMW, thanks to you! I eat them in the afternoon

I will probably only run 3 miles today.

I want some homemade pizza!

The best pie would be either cherry cream cheese pie or warm apple pie. Fall is the perfect time for pie!

Have a great day Janae!
Brooke is a doll!

Reply

It has to be pecan pie! Always the right answer!

Reply

i was really trying to think about food streaks and while there are definitely things I eat a lot i’m not sure about an actual streak. I do eat a heck of a lot of chobani, eggs, nut butter and ice cream though ;)

i have the same tips as you for homemade pizza. my absolute must is brushing it with olive oil before putting it in the oven..so darn good!

my run today was 7.5 miles.

best pie is apple pie and pumpkin pie. i absolutely cannot choose a favorite between those two. best would be slices of both on my plate.

Reply

I’m super big on food streaks… when I find something I like, I tend to eat it non-stop until I find something that I like more, and then the process repeats over and over again. Right now I’m -obsessed- with Kashi Cinnamon Harvest, which is basically cinnamon FMW… I’ve also gone through PopTarts streaks, Mac&Cheese streaks, Cinnamon Toast Crunch streaks, chocolate oatmeal streaks… lots of breakfast streaks I guess.

And I’m gonna have to say that banana cream pie is definitely the best kind.

Reply

I need to get a stoneware for pizza .. I’m a vegetarian but they make some AMAZING vegan pepperoni – seriously – you’d be surprised.

Best pie? Cherry… or apple… I’m an all-american-gal :)

That baby’s hair just kills me – precious!

Reply

Seeing Brooke’s crazy morning hair has officially made my day! Now if only Whole Foods would open here…then my day would be even better.

As for the best time of pie, I will eat basically any pie. But I do love me some banana cream pie.

Reply

The Lovin Hug is the BEST thing ever! We have had one for a couple years and I use it sometimes for my baby’s naps or if I need to occupy her while I shower, change my toddler’s diaper, etc. The great thing about this swing versus others is you can plug it in rather than go through tons of expensive batteries…that is, you can plug it in until your toddler fiddles with it and breaks the plug. :)

Reply

I love calling it a food streak instead of a food rut…I go through food phases and eat the same things until I am fed up!

Reply

I’m probably a little bit crazy but in that first picture that shows Spiky’s profile she looks a little bit like Curly! I’ve never thought she looked like her before but that little profile looks a little similar. I LOVE seeing you be a little mommy! Spiky is so lucky to have such a great, loving mama!!

Reply

So I was on a candy corn streak for a minute there but I am proud to say now that I have given up on it for now…I am sure that streak will start back up sometime soon! I love TJ’s whole wheat pizza dough and have never tried the one from WF…need to get me a pizza stone!

Hope you have a lovely day! :-)

Reply

best pie=pumpkin, banana cream and apple. In that order.

I’m going to have to try those pizza tips. I rarely make pizza but last time I did it stuck to my pizza stone and was a huge mess to clean off.

Reply

I love all the Brooke photos. Keep them coming:) You two are ridiculously cute.

Favorite pie: peach then apple. All others are inferior but greatly helped by adding mounds of whipped cream.
I think the only food streak I’ve really participated in is chocolate eating which has been going strong for about 25 years. I may have missed a few days here or there but I’m sure I made up for it later:)

Reply

Mmmm…I don’t think I could pick a favorite pie. I have so many! My grandma’s chocolate pie, any pumpkin, lemon meringue, apple. I have to stop. There is no pie in my house and now I want some.
Marionberry is an Oregon gem! We went to Oregon a couple years and met Marionberry for the first time. I was so sad when we had to leave it. This summer though, our Albertsons started carrying the Tillamook brand ice creams. Tillamook does ice cream right! They have a Marionberry Pie ice cream. If you can find it, buy it. Spend your whole budget on it. You won’t regret it!

Reply

i looove good old apple pie ♥

Reply

My longest streak is probably with my soba noodles (my mom gave me a butt-load to take to school) so I eat it pretty much everyday.
I think my friends have that same swing for their babies!
My run will be a tempo run… or an easy five. I haven’t decided yet :P

Reply

Brook is an angel! She looks so content & happy in her new swing.
I’ve never actually made homemade pizza but after seeing it on here, I need to try it.
Oh and banana cream pie all the way.

Reply

Food streak = Greek yogurt. I blogged about it today, actually. I think mine has been going on for … at least a month. Can’t stop. WON’T stop ;)

Reply

Food streak: Oriental Salad. I have been eating it 2-4 times a week for a couple of months now. I am actually taking it to a cookout tonight so that I don’t have to miss out on it for another day.
Run: Have to run at least 5 today because I didn’t run yesterday. I feel stoked for it already!

Reply

I am a new reader to your blog….I look forward to reading it each morning as I log on to work. Thanks for sharing that from Pinterest….printed it and put it on my bulletin board.
I haven’t really been on any specific food streak lately, but I HAVE finally decided to stop being a short order cook and cook the same type of food for my hubby, me and my son (my son and I are vegetarians and my hubby is NOT). That’s a streak I hope to continue! :-)
Fav type of cream pie, chocolate for sure!!

Reply

Oh my cuteness!!! That second picture of Brooke totally reminded me of Curly. The look and the facial expression :) Too funny.

Hey, I just wanted to tell you I am only three days away from my first marathon and getting pretty excited. I’m running the Big Cottonwood Canyon on Saturday.

Reply

The best type of pie is hands down, French Silk with equal parts pie and fresh whipping cream. My current food streak is oats in some form or another, most recently in No Bake Cookies. My tip for homemade pizza is GARLIC…lots and lots of garlic!

Reply

I’m all about Nutella Cream Pie. I have a secret weapon on how to use the Nutella without getting it all over the place. You mix the Nutella (usually a jar) with a medium size bag of powdered sugar and mix them into little pearls. Then you lay them over your crust before pouring your hot custard over them. I also love using them in pancakes, oatmeal, cookies, cakes, etc. This also works for Peanut Butter.

But, my streak right now is oatmeal and protein shakes, I can’t remember the last day I DIDN’T have them for breakfast and my snack. In fact I just had oatmeal with Nutella pearls in it.

Reply

I had a wonderful smoothie streak going that sadly broke today…unless I grab some bananas on the way home from work. And I have definitely had a glass of milk everyday for the past 20 years. no joke.
Brushing olive oil and garlic salt on the crust of pizza makes it extra good.
I don’t discriminate against pie. They are all delicious and welcome :)

Reply

My longest streak would probably be greek yogurt for breakfast! I pretty much always have it for breakfast. Best pizza, toppings! Lots and lots of toppings! Banana chocolate cream pie! haha

Reply

preheated pizza stone and cornmeal on top of the stone.

Also? I eat oatmeal nearly every day.

Reply

I got up early and ran 4 miles this morning! I LOVE getting a run in before my day starts!
I’ve been on a an oatmeal streak for breakfast. I add frozen raspberries and a few chocolate chips!
We made pizza on the BBQ this Summer and it was so yummy! Sadly it was the first time I had ever made dough from scratch, but that is the way I’ll be doing it from now on!
As far as pie goes, I love Emeral’s Banana Cream Pie-it is the best ever!!!

Reply

Ok the last part about the pie cracked me up because DC had a mayor named Marion Barry hahaha.

Did you get anything in the mail yesterday!?!?!?! Sorry I am too impatient hahaha.

Reply

I have similar points to pizza making too! Totally bake the crust a bit before adding toppings. LOVE it.

YAH for fun friends who deliver delicious yummyness :)

I am on a streak of eggs. I LOVE em.

Reply

Since you are such an awesome foodie, I would love a list of what to get at TJ’s! We are getting one here in a few months, and I am worried I may not know where to begin! Also, you have me brainwashed and I am going to buy FMW today! Crazy, but I am craving them!

Reply

I haven’t even read your post yet, but I LOVE the Nike quote you snagged in Pinterest! I needed that motivator today, thanks!

Reply

-I did a 3-mile interval run this morning that felt great!
-My favorite pie, by far, is apple. YUM.

Reply

oh yes, that is one pimped out swing! i did a hill workout this morning. only 2 weeks till my marathon!

I’m not sure if you have a Krispy Kreme near you, but if you go in and talk like a pirate, you can get a free doughnut. If you dress like a pirate, you can get a dozen doughnuts free. http://moneyland.time.com/2012/09/19/fall-freebies-free-donuts-free-ice-cream-free-coffee/

Reply

I’m going to have to go to Whole Foods (I’ve never been!) next time I’m in a bigger city that has one and try the pizza dough. And I’ll definitely have to come back here for your tips :-)

The ONLY good kind of pie is pumpkin. And I could pretty much live on it!

Reply

Ok, Brooke is ADORABLE!! I love seeing the pictures of her as she grows!

I just had to tell you from mom to mom, that swing rocks! Not because of all of its fancy features, but because it PLUGS IN!! I cannot begin to tell you the number of D batteries we went through with our baby swing multiplied x 2 kids (and the number of emergency-drug-store-for-overpriced-batteries-at-2-am runs we did because they needed to sleep in the swing!) I don’t remember plug-in swings being an option a few years ago, but I think it is an awesome feature!!

Ran 6 miles today, cool, 60 degrees and sunny out… and passed at least 10 guys mowing lawns, which always helps make me run just a teeny bit faster! :)

So glad you got your FMW fix! Whew!

Reply

I am going through a very intense spinach in EVERYTHING phase, and have been for about 3 months :). I put it in everything, breakfast porridge, smoothies, salads, pasta, banana soft serve etc.,
my run was a short set of intervals but wow am I tired, it was a hell of a workout in 20 minutes.

Reply

I love little Brooke in her swing!

The best pie I’ve ever had was the four berry pie from Whole Foods. I wanted to eat the whole pie myself.

Reply

I don’t think anyone minds you posting tons of pictures of Brooke :) She’s such a cutie!

If you ever want to try making your own pizza dough check out this recipe…

http://www.fabulousfoods.com/recipes/cheri-s-favorite-pizza-dough

I get the semolina at Whole Foods. The changes I make are that I use garlic salt instead of regular salt and I knead it for about a minute before the second rise instead of just punching it down and I swear it makes the dough puff up a little more when you bake it. You should try it, it’s actually pretty easy.

Reply

I was planning on making pizza tonight so these tips are perfectly timed! Thank you!

Brooke is so beautiful! I just love that spiky hair. I can’t get enough of it.

Banana cream, chocolate cream and pumpkin. I guess I love pie. I wish 14 years ago when I had Jaxon that his swing wouldn’t have made a loud abnoxious sound when I cranked it. It always woke him up. You’re spoiled. :) I also wish I’d had a blog back then. It would have made the adjustment to staying home easier and I’d LOVE to have memories like that recorded. I’m off to the fitbloggin’ 2012 Conference tomorrow…wish me luck. I don’t know any of my 3 roomies. Hope they don’t kill me. xo, Jessica

Marionberry is a type of blackberry that was developed at my alma mater, Oregon State Univ. It’s a cross between 2 different type of blackberries and was released in the 1950s. I’m not sure of the original origin of ‘Marion’, but the berry was named after Marion County, which is where Portland, OR is located.

I’m originally from the D.C. area and when I discovered marionberries in college, I could never see them and not think about (and laugh about) DC’s ex-mayor Marion Barry! haha

Reply

All of your pizza tips are the same as mine!

Seriously, what is a marionberry??

Reply

I have had the same soup for 4 days in a row now. Leftovers. I eat carrots EVERY day and have for years.
Pizza tip: put the cheese in a food processor to get it nice and tiny tiny. Melts better on the pizza.
Run was 6 miles and I bribed myself with cupcakes.
APPLE! No question about it.

Brooke’s hair is freakn’ adorable. My niece looked like that when she was young and we always thought she looked like that monkey from Disney’s Tarzan. (Google it, Brooke totally looks like that too.) Ironically enough, my nieces name is Brooke too. Maybe it’s the name?

Marionberries are so good! You should run in Washington when it’s berry season. There are blackberry and huckleberry (even strawberry, marionberry and raspberry if you’re lucky) bushes everywhere and since they’re basically a weed around here you don’t even have to carry snacks while you run because when you’re hungry you just find a berry bush and start eating. It’s pretty much the best thing ever.

Reply

Thanks for the pizza tips. We are having friends over tomorrow and having a “make your own pizza” supper with them!

Reply

I love her purple headband! So cute!!
Our high chair is the same pattern as her swing- I love it…and it’s gender neutral..which is even better- that way we can use it for the next one :)

Reply

the one picture of brooke kind of looks like Curly!

i never get sick of baby pictures! LOOOOVE Them. and YOU!

I wish they made swings for adults

Reply

I did an 8 mile run today! and my favorite kind of pie is most definitely apple! I Looooove apple pie! even better with some ice cream

Reply

Food streak – I have had a Starbucks spinach and feta wrap for breakfast almost every weekday since they were first introduced about a year ago.
Favorite pie – marionberry is mine! (It’s a type of blackberry, as you now know.) I like all fruit pies the best, with a special dispensation for key lime pie and coconut cream pie.
Maple frosted mini wheats? I die.

Reply

I LOVE ALL PIE!!! Have you ever had chocolate pie from kneaders though? That stuff is amazing.

Reply

APPLE PIE!!! And the baby pictures are pretty cute so no need to worry about it being to baby photo heavy.

Reply

I’m not on a current food streak! But I’ve definitely had some quinoa streaks because it’s so easy to cook and I’m a college student (and that is my excuse to be lazy about my cooking).

I’m lactose intolerant or something like that and cheese substitutes are so bad and I think that cheese-free pizza might make me sad so I haven’t had pizza of any kind in a while. :( I would be totally open to recipes from people though ;)

My run was supposed to be four miles, but then I had a nasty case of acid reflux about a mile in and it ended up being 2.6 because I just couldn’t quite shake the painful from my throat and that made breathing not so nice.

I’m a big pumpkin pie fan and am SO excited for fall. I will eat all of the pumpkin pie. All of it.

Also Brooke is way cute and your aunt’s hair is amazing.

Reply

I LOVE posts heavy on Brooke pictures! HI SWEET GIRL!

Food streak? My PB and oatmeal hasn’t stopped, so I think it is disqualified as a streak. Although for a while I did enjoy apples and tuna together…shame.

Reply

I want pizza so bad!!! You and Billy are pizza pros!
I love Brooke’s flower headband! Too cute!!
Right now I’m addicted to Chex cereal. Just the regular kind… I’m in love with it!

Reply

soooo that’s how you get a good homemade pizza. i make all the rookie mistakes (o pizza stone, not preheating my pain, not baking it for a few minutes before adding topping etc). i always end up with a doughy mess that is somehwat edible. haha. must try this again.

Marionberry is a delicious hybrid berry from Oregon that I fell in love with 2 years ago. it looks like a blackberry.

now i must find that pastry! love me berries ;)

Reply

Yay for FMW! What an awesome friend you have :) I don’t know about any recent food streaks but I’m pretty sure I took PB&J for lunch EVERY day for like 3 years straight.

Not a big pie person ….I really only like Apple pie.

My run Wednesday was just over 2 miles. I t was supposed to be a rest day. (I may have taken off Tuesday instead :)

Reply

I love Mom’s Best Blueberry Pomegranate FMW!!

Reply

White corn and chicken chowder. I know..sounds weird, But seriously this stuff is so good and so so easy to make. I just can not get enough of it. I even made the recipe in triple form so that I had it pre made. It’s been my lunch everyday for about 2 weeks!

I know it sounds weird..but.. if you make your own dough, like from flour and all, add maple syrup…it was a tip I got from a pizza place in New York.

Banana or Chocolate? If I really had to choose between just the two..it would be chocolate..but..I’d rather they both be together…Banana Chocolate pie.
