I didn’t want to sleep in and Brooke didn’t want to sleep in so we went for a walk instead.  Even though my walks could easily be done in my pajamas I still put on my running clothes so that I feel extra awesome.

IMG 4043

We walked my favorite 3 mile loop at my in-laws house and it was absolutely gorgeous out.  Brooke saw her first hummingbird and got really excited (at least I think she was really excited).

IMG 4044

I came back and opened up the fridge and saw leftover salad.  Totally normal to eat at 8 in the morning.

IMG 4046

Followed by my FMW and Honey Bunches of Oats combo.

IMG 4048

Once again Billy is good at every sport he tries and rocked the park volleyball game.  Minor problem:  the sand was so hot he now has blisters all over his feet.

IMG 4054

One last hangout with my sis and her munchkins until we go back to Utah for Thanksgiving.  Curly is fascinated with her hair.

IMG 4058

I promise my nephew was happy to be holding her.

IMG 4060

Then it was time for the dreaded drive home.  I don’t drive when we go on road trips.  I like to sit in the car while Billy drives and listen to music and watch Friends on my computer but yesterday we had two cars to get back to N. Cali.  Brooke and I in one car and Billy in another.  Turns out I actually really enjoyed driving, it was really relaxing for some reason?!  We listened to the Glee soundtracks and Jewel while eating swedish fish, apples and cheez-its and stopping along the way whenever Brooke got hungry.

I have to tell you about this app because it is saving me now that we live somewhere new.  It is called Waze and it is a free app and the best GPS.  It tells you about upcoming hazards, accidents, traffic, the fastest routes and they give you voice directions.  This was one of those things that Billy told me to get for over a year but I was stubborn and when I finally got it I am now hooked but don’t want to admit to him that he is right.

IMG 4061

My car had a few of the pieces that we needed to put the treadmill together and so that is project number 1 for the day… get that baby up and running!  It has been way too long since our last hangout.

What do you listen to in the car?

Haha although I haven’t eaten a salad for breakfast (yet), I have definitely snuck in a few bites of veggies in the morning while packing up my lunch for my work…consider it an appetiser course of breakfast ;)!

Reply

Veggies make the best bfast appetizer ha. Hope you are having an amazing day!

Omg, thank you so much for recommending Waze! What a cool app! I downloaded it and will try it on the way to my new job today.

Also I love how you told us last week you’d be calling it FMW…it took me a minute but I remembered. ;-)

Reply

Let me know what you think of it. GOOD LUCK at your new job and glad you remember what FMW stood for ha:)

Oooh I am getting that app! I am directionally impaired so I will need that for sure. I would say I use Instagram the most! SO addictive. I can’t handle it.

Today is only 3 miles + Insanity! I am excited to SWEAT since yesterday was a rest day! :)

Pizza is probably the weirdest thing I’ve eaten for breakfast. I haven’t done it since middle school though! Pizza has no rules. You can eat it any time of the day (in my opinion).

Hope you have a great day, Janae!

Reply

Hey girl! Great run outside today! I love your instagram posts so so much:) Now you are making me need some pizza asap!

My new breakfast lerve is green chile eggs. Yum. I am trying to ready myself to switch from tredmill running to outdoor running since the temp is supposed to be under 100 here pretty soon. Any advice to make the transition easier?
Also, hubs has a garmin GPS from work that they let us take on vacation. It is FANTASTIC! It also lets you know about delays and will re-route you once there is more than a 20-30 minute wait.

Reply

Will you pretty please come make some green chile eggs for me?!?! To make the transition easier go early!! If you can avoid the heat as much as possible I think the transition will be easy for you because you will be so distracted by all of the scenery and fresh air of being outside. Maybe switch every other day of running inside and outside. Let me know how it goes Lacey!!!

Reply

I need to find a new GPS app, we have a Garmin and lets just say we are not BFs ;)
My favorite app is probably my task reminder!
I usually listen to the radio, but for road trips I bring my iPod.
Probably cold, leftover pizza!

Reply

Try WAZE!!! I need to be better about using my task reminder. Cold pizza is almost better than warm pizza!

Your honey bunches of oats and FMW combo caught my eye so guess what flavors of cereal I bought at the grocery store?? And let me tell you the combo is as delicious as it looks.

Running? I was going to take a couple weeks off post half, but I am still riding the high from the race, and wanting to sign up for another. Any thoughts about off-seasons meaning mainanence running vs trying to get faster.

Reply

I am so so glad you picked up the two best cereals. Let me know what you think. GOOD girl to take off some time after you rocked your half this weekend… SPEEDY WOMAN!

Reply

I’m going to have to check out that app! I can’t get anywhere without my GPS – it’s one of the best inventions! I usually don’t like driving either – my hubby always drives!
I don’t think I’ve eaten many weird things for breakfast. Maybe cake? But thats not weird, its delicious!!

Reply

Seriously, what did people do before GPS?!? MAPS?!?! Cake is not weird you are so right!

Reply

My mom has been telling me to download Waze for months and of course I didn’t until just now. I want Brooke’s life!

Reply

CONGRATS on becoming a personal trainer wahoo and Allie, you are going to rock your marathon. Hahaha don’t tell your mom when you download Waze.

Reply

I normally need to have breakfast foods before I have lunch foods, but I have this pink vodka sauce recipe that has lots of chunky veggies (I pretty much triple what the recipe calls for) that I ate once for breakfast with cold pasta and it was amazing.

For some reason I love to listen to NPR in the car. It’s a nice way to effortlessly catch up on news and current events! I swear I am 25 not 50, and I listen to normal rock/pop/hip hop music too.

Reply

Um holy cow that sounds delicious and I would totally eat that for bfast too. That is a great idea to listen to NPR, I might have to copy you!

Reply

Were you in San Clemente?!!!?!?!!

Reply

KARINA!! We were in Rancho Santa Margarita. Is that near you?

Reply

Yesss!! Oh my goodness you were right down the street we could have hung out!!!!

Reply

AHHHH next time I am there we will have to do something!

Reply

You look so hapoy, even that early in the morning. I need lessons!

I use my iphone as my gps.. No app, just google maps. But, this app sounds awesome.

Lately, I’ve been taking my iPad in the car and listening to pandora.

Today will be my first day back to running, after a long weekend break. I’m hoping it goes well. Wishes for no dreaded heavy leg, heavy breathing, wanting to die feelings :)

When I was in high school, my bf and I would start every day with a trip to the vending machine for breakfast and I would always get a bag of Chex mix, a snickers bar, and a bottle of apple juice. Breakfast of champions!

Reply

Hahah thanks Karla. I am a grouch at night though. Pandora is so addicting. The good old days of eating vending machine food for bfast:) I hope you have an amazing run today, let me know how it goes!

Reply

Loving those pictures of your nieces and nephews with Brooke! I just looked at “first day of school” pics online of my nephews from this morning. I miss those guys!!

Today I have a 5-miler planned. Looking forward to getting out there in the sunshine!

Your cereal looked yummy. I might have to go with a mixture this morning, too!

Reply

First day of school pictures are the best. I hope your 5 miles goes awesome and enjoy the sun. You really should do a mix of cereals today!

Reply

Frosted Mini Wheats are so good, especially dipped in peanut butter or covered in chocolate milk!

Reply

You are the smartest person alive… CHOCOLATE MILK… that is brilliant!

Reply

I use the Daily Mile app almost every day to log my runs. I had 3 great runs totalling 33 miles this weekend while on vacation in California. So fun!

Reply

DANG BETH!!! 33 miles in three days while VACATIONING, you are incredible!

Reply

Weirdest thing for breakfast? Leftover spaghetti. And that wasn’t a one time thing ;)

Reply

We have spaghetti in the fridge, I am definitely going to have to go eat some now that I read your comment:)

Reply

I ran 11 yesterday but thought I ran 12 so I was a bit gutted when I got home!!! My most used app is Nike Plus but after yesterday’s let down I may be searching for an alternative!!! It is in disgrace!!!

Reply

BOOO to Nike Plus tricking you!! Cathryn, 11 miles is awesome! WAY TO GO!!

Reply

Can I ask you a weird question? I’m sure this is cultural (I’m not American and I was raised learning that babies are ALWAYS cold because they don’t have any muscles so you wrap them in several blankets year round as long as they’re not able to walk by themselves):
I see you wearing jeans outdoors, but your baby is only wearing a onesie? I’m sure you as a mom would know if she’s cold, but I’m already cold looking at her ;-)
It’s just so weird for me… I see this all the time here in the U.S. – babies in airconditioned rooms (where even I am cold) without hats, socks etc… even though the adults are wearing long sleeves and socks etc…
Am I weird? Am I too old fashioned? Or are American babies just more used to colder environments/ACs and don’t get cold that easily?

Reply

Hey Katie!! Thanks so much for your comment. I actually take off her hats and blankets for the picture to show her off for the picture:) She is usually bundled up big time. I wish I was wearing shorts because it has been really warm here but none of my shorts fit yet:) You are not old fashioned, you know your stuff! Hope you are having an amazing day!

Reply

Your FMW always make me crave them so I went out and got some STRAWBERRY FMW and had them for breakfast today! LOVE them drenched in milk! :)

Reply

Mallory, I am so glad you got some FMW. NOW I need to go get the strawberry version. Which one do you like best?

Reply

I had Waze for a while but I found that it was killing my phone really fast. Also, I was tempted to use it a lot when I drove on the freeway (we live in a pretty urban area) so I deleted it. It would definitely be great for learning a new area though!

Reply

You are so right, it drains the battery so we keep ours plugged in in the car when we are using it. It can be super distracting too!

Reply

I had a few bites of Saffron Ricotta gnocchi for breakfast yesterday morning. I made them Saturday night and couldn’t resist a few bites for breakfast.
I have to tell you, I crack up every time I see you write FMW. I don’t know why, but I think it is hilarious.

Reply

You just made me drool. I need some gnocchi now:) Do you have a good recipe that you could share with me?

Reply

I have it at home. I’ll email it to you tonight or tomorrow.

Reply

Thank you so much Patty!

Reply

Ha ha….I think you have your breakfast and lunch a little mixed up!! ;) Yesterday, I ran a little over 6 miles. My plan was to go 7, but for some reason I just wasn’t feeling it. The Texas heat and humidity may have had a little something to do with that.

Reply

WAY TO GO KIM, you are awesome to run that far in the crazy weather that you guys have!

Reply

Brownies and cookies for breakfast. Wait. That’s not weird. Its just awesome ;)

I used to listen to my music-i like pop, rock, alternative, etc. Until my 5 yr old started picking up the words and I soon realized how horrible and innapropriate they were…especially coming out if her mouth. So now it is mostly kids and church music.

I probably use instagram the most. Or the weather app. I need yo know what the weather is like before I run outside. No running today. Weights class and the elliptical this morning at the gym. Tomorrow is my tempo run.

3 wks post partum and you are teeny tiny. :P

Reply

I want to come over for bfast brownies and cookies. I have already started to find all the kids/church pandora stations ha but will probably wait a few more months to use them. I love your instagram posts, keep them coming. You are going to rock your tempo run! LOVE YOU!

Reply

Salad for breakfast is totally normal in Israel and this needs to catch on in more places; what’s wrong with eating delicious and healthy veggies all day long? I say go for it :)

I’m not that much into apps, I got the Kindle one for when I’m too lazy or carrying too small a bag for my real Kindle and of course Whatsapp is useful.

Brooke is extremely cute. You must be having so much fun together!

Reply

I totally agree with you Mari, veggies for bfast is awesome. Thanks so much Mari and hope you are having an amazing day!

Reply

I’ve never had a salad for b-fast before?!?But why ever not?!

YAY for a car & treadmill! WAHOO :)

Reply

I think you should try it out Annette, I have a feeling you would like it! PS when I am back for Thanksgiving will you be around? I want to plan a big Yogurtland get-together!

Reply

Zack usually always drives, too, but sometimes it is definitely relaxing and nice to just drive myself! I definitely know how that is.
Yayyy you get your treadmill back!! Exciting!
And my dad is the same way as Billy- he is good at every single sport he has ever tried. Seriously, it’s not fair. I definitely did not inherit that gene, ha!

Reply

What is it with your dad and Billy?! Not fair! I think that is why I like running because it is the only sport I am coordinated enough to do ha. Hope you are having a great day Katie!

Reply

I need that app! I’m horrible at directions and get lost very easily!

Reply

You are sooo teeny tiny already!! Jealous! Do you have a stroller for Brook? I am looking forward to walks with baby in the stroller the most when he comes. If I can’t run this fall, I’d better soak up all the long walks with the stroller that I can. I’m not running all that much these days…still can some, but it’s just not that comfortable so I’m mixing it up with other stuff. Definitely been craving a loooong run though. sigh.

Reply

I dont go anywhere without a GPS. Seriously. I am perpetually lost. I get lost going around the block on a regular basis. I need a map, written directions, and a GPS and I still will make a wrong turn in Albuquerque lol

I am running 3 miles today. My goal for this week is to get up in the morning and run. And so far week-1, Laura-0. I just really hate mornings but I hate running when I get home….apparently I hate mornings more or this would not be an issue. I will try again on Thursday….maybe the key is start with a shorter amount of miles…like 2.

Reply

Looks like you had an awesome day! Good luck with putting the treadmill back together!

Reply

I usually listen to my iPod in the car, unless it I am driving in the morning. In that case, I am a sucker for morning talk shows like Ryan Seacrest on KIIS FM :)

My running is going great! I ran a half on Sunday and a 6miler today! Life is good:)

Reply

When I used to drive, it was always songs that I could sing at the absolute top of my lungs. Pretty sure I turned many heads at red lights over the years — but it doesn’t matter, not like I’d ever see them again anyway!
Rocked a 7 mile yesterday — less than three weeks out before my first half marathon!! EEK!
Ps. SO not surprised that Curly loves Brooke’s hair — pretty sure Brooke has the most fabulous hair in the universe. Just sayin’. haha

Reply

It would be so great if Curly started calling Brooke Spiky ;-)

Reply

I have a Windows phone so I don’t have any good apps.
I love listening to sports radio in the AM, especially since football season is here. Otherwise I listed to my Ipod which has tons of Mumford & Sons and 80s music.
School has started so getting my runs in is hard. I’m glad I decided to train for halfs until I finish school so I can train. Today was a 3 mile HMP (I threw in some inclines for good measure). My legs felt strong and I’m excited to put my training to the test.

Reply

Hahahaha your nephew looks scared to be holding her! And I LOOOOOVE to drive! I actually love to drive alone the best, because then no one can hear me singing!

Reply

I was reading on another running blog not long ago that a salad is a perfect pre-run breakfast because it digests so quickly! I think you’re on to something! :)

Reply

I definitely can’t do the salad for breakfast thing… I’ve tried the savory breakfast route, but it’s gotta be sweet for me or I don’t even wanna get my butt out of bed.

Reply

Janae…you look freaking awesome. Is it your long torso because you eat like a 250 lb man. Just kidding but seriously, did your stomach even stretch? I was left with a giant deflated balloon after I had my 10 pounder, but then again I’m short waisted. Hmm, starting to wonder if you pulled a Beyonce and used a surrogate. :)

Reply

You should have exited and visited me in Morgan Hill! We drove by your neck of the woods yesterday–had to get our shop-on at Ikea..nightmare. Have you driven through Gilroy yet? Garlic capital of the world baby–every morning on the way to the gym I get a strong whif of garlic…always makes me crave Italian food big time. Today I went to boot camp with this super intense instructor…five months pregnant and I’m still trying to hang with the big dogs. She yells a lot, but you always get an awesome work out. The place where your in-laws live totally reminds me of Woodbridge in Irvine, SoCal where I used to live. Anyway, enough randomness for the moment. And you and Brooke are too cute…I don’t think I got ready or left the house for three months with my little one lol.

Reply

My parents bought me a GPS when they moved to Houston a few years ago so I could figure out how to get around (I was still in undergrad and coming home for the Summes) and it ended up being a lifesaver. I usually just use mapquest on my phone now but I’ll use the actual GPS for long roadtrips. And that app looks great!

Our car tunes ranges from indie rock to texas country to disney tunes, depending on the passengers, where we’re traveling and what kind of mood we’re in. I downloaded spotify on my phone a few months ago and it was one of the best splurges I’ve ever made!

Hopefully the weather will chill out a little bit and at least get under 95 so I can go outside and run 4-5 miles tonight without having a heat stroke. So ready for some fall running weather :)

And there is really no telling… I’m a boss about eating healthy food 90% of the time but if there are any sort of sweets in the house there’s a good chance I’ll help myself to them for breakfast. Whoops?? :)

Reply

I LOVE THAT APP.

I just moved to Connecticut a few days ago and I would quite literally be very lost without it. Waze<3

Reply

I’ve eaten cold leftover Mexican food a few times, and it’s quite delicious. Cold leftovers really don’t bother me. Plus, a burrito is good any time of day.

Reply

I have a GPS on my phone. The apps I use the most track my food, my grocery/Costco lists and my spending.
Ran 4 this morning.
When you walk with Brooke, do you put her in a stroller? So she is used to it if she ever goes out with others

I don’t usually like eating traditional breakfast foods, so it’s not uncommon for me to have a salad or pasta for breakfast!

We JUST got a GPS yesterday. I’m so pumped because I’m so severely directionally challenged! I joke with my husband that it’s so bad that I can’t even find my way to the grocery store on my own (we’ve lived in this city for over a year now), but now I”m going to go grocery shopping and make trips to Starbucks all by myself! ;)

Reply

I have no shame- I’m on my third bowl of Honey Bunches of Oats as we speak. Love that you’re a mom! Love that you got to see your sweet sister and the kidlets.

Reply

I dated a guy right after college that would eat salads for breakfast all the time. I thought it was so strange.

Mike and I share a GPS, but I also have it on my phone just in case I forget to grab the other one out of Mike’s car.

I usually listen to random music or podcasts in the car.
