Our rude neighbors.

Every single morning my neighbors make some type of delicious breakfast.  The smell hits me like a wall as I am walking to the gym.  Bacon, syrup, waffles, sausage… you name it, you can smell it.  The rude part about the whole situation is that they haven’t invited Brooke and I over every morning to join their feast.  Don’t they know that breakfast foods are my absolute favorite?

Maybe I should introduce myself first because I haven’t even seen them yet, I just smell their goodness every morning.

I did something kind of rude back and made delicious smelling banana bread this afternoon… I should probably take them some:)

We don’t have some of the baking staples right now (salt and baking soda) but I found a recipe using Bisquick that made it so I only needed bananas, sugar, butter and bisquick.  Adding chocolate (TJs Pound Plus Milk Chocolate bar with Almonds) was all my idea.  Since I added chocolate that means it is my own recipe right?  JK here is the link to the one I used.

Today during my 3 mile walk I am not going to lie, I really REALLY, I mean REALLY wanted to try out running.  I am feeling like my old self again and I was craving at least a few minutes of running.  Please be proud of me because I refrained.  I have learned my lesson one too many times about starting to run before my body is ready and I am not going to do it again.  I will be waiting until a doc checks me out and says everything is good to go.

Let’s take guesses as to how long I will be in my workout clothes for today.  Dressing, bathing and pampering Brooke is #1 on the list which is awesome because then I don’t feel so bad about getting myself dressed as #20 on the list (it was this way before I had Brooke too).

Getting some beautiful new Brooks gear in the mail didn’t make it any easier to refrain from testing it out on a beautiful run.  I have never ran in a running skirt before so I am excited to try it out.  Brooke better love Brooks shoes and running clothes as much as me because their names are pretty darn similar.

And the best part of my day was laying out on the grass with mini B.

I need to find some small dark haired wigs that can be styled with matching spikes. This will be the only requirement of attendees: To wear the spiky wig during meetings….or whatever it is I’ll to figure out we do.

Reply

we run and eat breakfast

Reply

I just started googling wigs for us. At our meetings we can sleep the whole time and wake up for 20 minutes to eat and then smile and fall asleep again. Brooke’s life schedule.

I love running skirts, the only problems I have had with them is when they shrink and then I get the chub rub. But if the briefs are long enough, good to go!

Reply

I tried on this skirt and the briefs are super long but I will let you know how they are after I wash them:) Hope you are having an amazing day!

Reply

Just make sure not to wash them in hot water–or warm, depending upon how “warm” warm is–or put them in the dryer and you should be fine. I’ve followed by those “rules,” and I haven’t had any problems. :)

Reply

I’m pretty sure I have the same running skirt and I love it! I only run in Brooks running skirts, because they have this grippy gel stuff around the cuff of the liner shorts, and I swear they are the only ones that don’t ride up. Hopefully you love yours as much as I do mine!

The last thing I baked was yesterday…sweet potato muffins from a recipe I found in Runner’s World a while back. So delicious – even my kids loved them!

Brooke is so adorable…I would get absolutely nothing done if I were you and can see why lying in the grass with her is your favorite part of the day :)

Reply

That is awesome. Good to hear you are obsessed with Brooks running skirts too! UM.. those muffins sound amazing! Thanks for your sweet words and I don’t really get anything done ha:)

Reply

I have a Lululemon running skirt, and it, too, has silicone on the inside of the shorts to keep them from riding up. Love that!

Reply

So glad I’m not the only Frosted Mini Wheat addict. I could literally eat it (and just might sometimes) all.day.long.

Reply

Seriously I really think it is my favorite food! I can’t stop.

Reply

I just love breakfast foods too! The smells would definitely be hard to resist! I just can’t get enough of Brooke’s adorable little cheeks and hair! Too cute!

Reply

Thanks Ashley!! Hope you are having an amazing day and you get some bfast foods soon:)

Reply

AWEE so cute.

Gah-my neighbor is always making a really yummy breakfast when I’m awaking to go for my run too. I then contemplate making breakfast and going for a run later..but sadly real life and work you can’t do that. Rude. ;)

What is the deal with our neighbors?!?! Silly real life getting in our way of pancakes:)

Reply

We have made some great friends from neighbors, love them. Have been some bad ones too but it all can’t be good.

Love running skirts!

Reply

So happy that you have become friends with your neighbors, that is awesome!

Right before we moved the the house, our new neighbors in our apartment building camre by and said hello. They had just moved from Utah and are a very friendly family. Unfortunately, we haven’t seen them since we moved and I haven’t really talked with our new neighborss at the house tho I know we live on an “established” street. We’re the young couple on the block ;)

Never ran in a running skirt.

Last thing I baked. . . . . . were sweet potatoes. that count?

Brook is just so freaking adorable. Love her facial expressions :)

Reply

I LOVE running skirts! They are all I run in (until it gets cold).

Last thing I baked was Double Chocolate Zucchini bread. I had some zucchini I needed to use and what better way to ruin something healthy than with chocolate! :)

I just saw you were at Santa Cruz beach boardwalk on Saturday. I was near there at a dog beach (first time my dog went in the ocean). Wish I could have seen you in real life since I have been reading your blog for awhile now.

Reply

Ahhhhhh Patty I would have loved to meet up with you! Do you live in Santa Cruz?

Reply

No, I actually live in Sacramento but I was visiting my friend who lives in Santa Cruz.
There is a run Wharf to Wharf you should look into doing next year (in July), it starts at the Santa Cruz beach boardwalk and ends in Capitola on the beach. It is so much fun and you run along the coast for the majority of the run. You have to register early, because it sells out fast every year, but it is a blast. Here is the link, if you are interested http://wharftowharf.com/. Maybe I’ll see you there next year! :)

I baked a pb chocolate chip cake last week and it was awesome.

We know our neighbors pretty well. In fact, I convinced our next door neighbor to adopt my brother’s foster dog two weeks ago. He’s awesome.

I don’t really wear skirts in real life, so I don’t think I’d want to wear one for running.

Reply

I just baked some peanut butter oatmeal sandwich cookies. Not the healthiest, but I am all about everything in moderation. :)

And your daughter is sooo adorable! Love that hair.

Thanks so much Stef! Those sound incredible… I might need to make them:)

When I go running at my parentals there is a place that I always have to run by and I can smell them making donuts. Rudest. Thing. Ever,

I have been wanting those very tanks from Brooks. Go ahead and mail them to me instead. You know you want to ;) I bought my very first running skirt for my own Mothers Day present (hey, I know what I want!) and it is a Brooks PR MEsh Skirt. I love it. Except the size I got fits great around the waist, but is too baggy for my chicken legs. I think that might be the problem that causes the chafing. Other than that,I love it!

I know most of my neighbors really well and I love them. I love this neighborhood.

I bakes choc chip and butterscotch cookies last night. I bake almost every day. I have a problem.

It usually takes me less than 5 min for whatever I am having for breakfast…and it HAS to because when I get home from the gym I want food in my belly NOW.

How was the bread? Cause it looks delicous!

Happy 2 week old birthday to Brooke.

Reply

You NEEEEEED to run in a running skirt. I do not own any shorts…NONE! I hate them compared to skirts. I love all the little pockets and ipod port on mine. I get mine from skirtsports.com. I HIGHLY recommend them. I have converted friends and family over to them as well.

Reply

You and Brooke are too cute! Also, don’t you dare go running yet! Your hips are not back to normal yet. We want you Healthy Hungry Runner Girl!

When I start feeling weak and wanting to run I am going to email you to talk me out of it mkay?

I have never posted here before, but I love to read your blog, and I am compelled to post now to say simply this: seriously, she is the cutest baby! That spiked hair is just darling. Congrats to both of you, she is lovely!

Hey Amy!!!! Thank you so so much for your comment! Hope you are having an amazing day!

I haven’t run in a skirt but I’ve been wishing I could try one out! I feel like I need something for the marathon that doesn’t ride up in front when I sweat and my shorts are soaked (lol my most polite way of describing it)

Reply

i have a few running skirts and i love them!!!

i don’t know if it counts as baking, but i made funfetti cake batter dip last night…so good you can eat it by the spoonful, although dipping animal crackers in it is pretty good too. :) oh, and i made it with chobani strawberry so that qualifies it as “healthy.” win-win.

Reply

Your girl looks soo healthy and beautiful! You must be taking great care of her! You make it look easy :)

Reply

Thanks so much Hannah, that means a lot!

Reply

Oh, I love Brooke’s spiky hair! She is cute and a half. Your new Brooks gear looks exciting–I love their stuff. Can’t wait to hear how you like it. I have a lululemon running skirt that I’ve worn a couple of times; I bought it mostly to wear for races, but when it comes time to planning my race outfits, I somehow always forget I have it and go for shorts. Go figure. I don’t really know my neighbors because they all just moved in right before the semester started…but they’re all undergrads (I think) and are big partiers (at least I think so from the noise they make on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights) so I think we’re kinda on different wavelengths.

Reply

Monday morning I was so tired after I made my breakfast that I put the cereal box in the refrigerator, so it took me 45 seconds instead of 30.

Our neighbor is a nosey little old lady named Esther. She is sweet, but has to know EVERYTHING. I am a bad neighbor and have not baked her anything and we have lived there for over a year.

I have 3 bananas on the verge of death so I am FOR SURE going to make some banana bread… and maybe throw some pumpkin in there, too. :)

Reply

My breakfast takes 5 minutes at the most (making coffee in a French press takes a while, but I get to get out some yogurt and stuff while waiting for it to brew).
Glad you refrained from running!

Reply

5 minutes for breakfast, we don’t have a toaster just a toaster oven so our Toaster Strudels take FOREVER when you’re starving. Now I want a cherry one with a danish cream cheese one…yum.

The last thing I baked was my cousin’s bridal shower cake 2 weeks ago and everyone raved about it! I love baking cakes, thats why its my job ;-)

Reply

tried on a running skirt with capris. The skirt had a pocket in the back that sat funny and I returned them. I have a pair of shorts I like, looking for a skirt that doesn’t have shorts.

last thing I baked…Bread!

I thought of you the other night….I got down to the good bits in my box of Mini Wheats.

my breakfast recently has been cottage cheese with granola or tuna and cherry tomatoes. Both super easy

I love running skirts!

aww brooke. so sweet. and that hair!! she’s got quite the head of it already!

i loooove my neighbors! great people :) we have lots of younger married couples around us, just like us, and they all have babies (except for us!) ha, no pressure or anything, right? ;)

Reply

Haha, you should go over there to ask for the baking staples… Right at breakfast time…

That banana bread looks amazing.. I bet it smelled good too. Everything tastes better when you add chocolate to it. I do the same thing :) Kudos to you for feeling more like yourself to run and extra kudos to taking a step back and waiting until it is the right time!

You and Brooke are both looking gorgeous!! Being a mommy suits you! ;)

The hallways in my building smelled like vanilla cupcakes this afternoon, and I was kinda chapped that no one came to my door and offered me one :( At least you got to enjoy some delicious banana bread! I was lazy and decided to nap instead lol. And I’ve gotten pretty lazy when it comes to making breakfast, too. 5 mins tops and I’m done.

Reply

I met our neighbors today! They have two little boys (we figured since they sometimes cry and scream) and they are adorable. The wife is too cute and I will forgive the noise because the kids are serious cuties.

I love running skirts. I have a couple tennis skirts that I run in and some ridiculously expensive lululemon ones that have magical powers from the 80 dollar price tag. If the shorts underneath are quality, you will love it.

Reply

I don’t like our neighbors at all and keep telling my husband that our next house needs to be in the middle of a field without any neighbors. Maybe I’m just a horrible person! Haha. I love Brooke’s spiked hair. It is the cutest.

Reply

So THAT’S why you named her Brooke :). I’m gonna name my baby Asics.

Reply

I love the picture of her on the grass! I think she is the perfect mix of you and Billy, but she definitely looks more like him in that picture! You are the cutest mom ever! I can’t wait until you are able to start running again so we can hear all about it! :)

Reply

We have 3 neighbors that are to the right, left, and behind our house. They are all so nice. One of them have the cutest little girl and have invited us over to try out new cookie recipes! They’ve also helped us in the yard and given us free stuff! You should go introduce yourself -they’ll fall in love with Brooke and want to be your friends.

I usually have cereal, oatmeal, or toast/fruit for breakfast so usually not that long. I baked some delicious brownies last week. I didn’t have all the ingredients and added in chocolate just because haha They were amazing!

Reply

LOVE LOVE LOVE my running skirts. I have one pair of shorts that I never ever use. Love the tush coverage as well. Kinda modest so I don’t like the idea of people seeing me in short shorts. :)

Reply

Oh good God in heaven – that last picture is to die for.

Reply

I AM proud of you for not running! I know it’s hard – but I know a few people who have some really, umm, traumatic stuff happen to them because they over did it (Google prolapsed bladder and it will make you cry).

I have a few running skirts and most of them ride up. I can do a few miles in them, but that’s it. I have no butt and I think that’s why. So disappointing!

PS – I love Brooke’s hair so, so much.

Reply

I love running skirts!!! I have a few of them. I even have a couple running dresses made by SkirtSports that I have worn in a few races and it’s funny to see peoples reactions. But I prefer the skirts!

We don’t know our neighbors right, I need to change that asap!

I have had zero desire for baked goods for the past few weeks, definitely blaming it on this baby inside of me! It just makes me so sad that I can’t stomach pretty much anything I used to love. PLEASE tell me this gets better once out of the 1st trimester.

Reply

SO glad you refrained! You’re doing a great job finding alternate, safe exercise.
We live in a very close-knit neighborhood. All ages, nationalities, etc, but we talk on a daily basis. I’ve never had this before in my life and I love it.

Breakfast is my favorite and I will spend as much time as necessary to make it. :)

Reply

You are so super smart and strong for waiting for the okay! I really admire that :) I think that Brooke is just the cutest thing since sliced bread! Ah…you’re really making me want to have a baby, but then I come back to reality and realize it’s not time for us yet :) That bread looks super yummy. I used to be a cereal girl every morning, but lately I’ve been missing it up with 3 eggs whites cooked in a mug (courtesy of your technique) on a toasted or warmed sandwich round. I also have other stuff because lord knows I need more calories than that to make it to my mid-morning snack!

Reply

I have lived in the same place since I was a kid and my neighbor and I are the same age so we became friends instantly! I want to bake but it is so hot here it is insane! so cal and northern cali are so different. Bfast took a few minutes (the most delicious smoothie ever!

We have talked to our neighbors more lately with Hurricane Isaac bearing down on us!

My neighbors are really weird and creep me out!! I guess that’s the luck of the draw when you live in New York!!
I love that photo of Brooke in the grass! And I love the nickname Mini B!!!
I usually have breakfast at work… So like you, 30 seconds!

Reply

I don’t know how I would feel about running in a skirt. I’m a BIG fan of running in spandex (blame the ex-rower in me!) , and I’m just getting used to my Nike tempos being “swishy” — I think a skirt might just push me over the edge!
I could eat breakfast all day every day, but recently (because I’ve been so busy with work) I’ve been rocking the overnight oats as they’re so quick to prep at night and immediately ready in the morning (after stirring in all the yummy toppings!!).
Oh, and I’d totally love to be a member of the BHFC!! She’s such a rockstar!

Reply

I moved into a new place and we’re getting to know our neighbors. They actually are really awesome. They let us use their patio furniture and I pawn all my baking off on them. Basically, they are perfect. lol

Reply

I do, I don’t like them lol they just annoy me and do rude things, ALL THE TIME.

Good job refraining on your run :) Stay Strong, you’ll be happy you did later one!!

Never ran in a skirt, it always looked not comfortable to me haha I feel like it would get stuck between my legs…

Pancakes, today after I got home from work :D

about 10 minutes, toasting bread takes forever!!!!!!!!!

Happy Hump Day!!

Yay!! Love baking.
Know my neighbors pretty well. Maybe too well. I bring them baked crap 2 x week. No joke. I’m totally down w/bribing them to like me.

Reply

I am obsessed with reading your posts about Brooke!! You make me want to have a baby!! I had never run in a running skirt until this summer, and now I love it! I have a running skirt from Lululemon that is super comfortable and really cute.

Reply

I have a Brooks running skirt that I bought for my birthday. It is now my favorite running item.

I bake all the time, often for breakfast. I am not much of a cereal person and I don’t like my kids to eat it for breakfast (it just doesn’t seem like it will really last them until lunchtime at school) so I often bake breads, muffins, etc. in the mornings for them. I made zucchini bread on Monday.

I have great neighbors that load me up on fresh vegetables from their gardens (I kill all plants, I have never had a successful garden). I reciprocate by bringing them the occasional homemade cinnamon rolls or loaf of wheat bread.

Your pictures of Brooke make me miss the adorable baby phase. My kids are getting all grown up…

Reply

I don’t know my neighbours very well, but the guy next door is always cooking meals that smell delicious. I’ve been wondering if it’s creepy to bring my neighbours cookies to try to get to know them better even though I’ve been in my condo for a year.
That banana bread looks so awesome! I may need to avoid eating my bananas so I can make some.

Reply

i’ve never ran in a skirt before so excited to hear your review! the last thing i baked was banana bread too a few weeks ago! we have been traveling and just got back so i need to step up my baking.

breakfast usually consists of either pb&j toast before a run or eggs or oatmeal (so not long at all).

Reply

Breakfast foods are my favorite too…shame on your neighbors for not inviting you! I don’t know my neighbors too well, but enough to ask them for the occasional egg when we run out :)!

Reply

We are pretty good friends with all of our neighbors. It’s great! I love to bake, and the last thing I made was my mom’s bran muffin recipe, but I cut the per-muffin calorie content from 150 to 55!

I started running when my youngest (of two) was three weeks old. Probably shouldn’t have, but I made sure to take it slow, and a year later, I’m still running strong, and I’ve lost 25 pounds.

Being a mommy is amazing, and being a running mommy is so empowering. Brooke is beautiful!

Reply

running in a skirt seriously makes a run better. That’s obviously all in my head but I did run my half marathon in a skirt and felt like a sassy runner the entire time.

Reply

You are putting me into full on baby jealously mode. Brooke is way too cute! And the way you guys love her so much already, I can’t wait to have one of my own. Check back with me in about 2.5 years :)

I lived above this amazing gourmet pizza place for 5 years and the scent of bread wafting upstairs was too much to take. I swear I gained five pounds from breathing it in!

Brooke’s hair is the cutest!!!!

And don’t feel bad, I sit around in my workout clothes all day long and I’m not taking care of a baby so what’s my excuse!?

Reply

We are really lucky with our neighbors on both sides of our house, they are about 85 years old. They are the sweetest ladies who love both my kiddos. I feel bad we don’t stop to chat more often, I think they probably assume we don’t care. I think I’ll make some of the banana bread this weekend and take it over!!

I’ve been wanting to try out the Brooks running skirt! I hope you love it. I just ordered a new pair of Brooks shorts, can’t wait for them to get to me!

Reply

I love my Brooks running skirts! I have the ones with the grips on the undershorts so they don’t ride up.

Reply

You look AMAZING BTW…never would have guessed you just had a baby less than 2 weeks ago! That’s the power of taking care of yourself/regular activity in pregnancy! You’re so inspirational!

Reply

Banana break with Bisquick? Too funny. I think it’s funny that you have Bisquick but not baking soda! I’ve never bought Bisquick in my entire life.

We just moved into our apartment a couple of months ago and I’ve only talked to a few of the neighbors. They are nice, but don’t seem like the type to invite us over/hang out. When hubs and I lived with my sister we got to know their neighbors really well and would hang out with them all the time and play bocce ball and fun stuff like that. We both eventually moved but we actually went to visit them on Tuesday at their new house. Apartment neighbors just don’t seem quite as social.

I LOVE running skirts. I almost never run in shorts because I feel like they get stuck in my crotch. I probably just have fat thighs or something. You probably don’t have that problem. I love the skirts with shorts underneath – so much more comfortable. Plus, they are very versatile – I wear the same skirt for running and golf and tennis. I hope they still fit after pregnancy.

My breakfast takes about 1o seconds to make. Milk + shredded wheat + maple syrup. However, I usually make crepes for my husband every morning so that takes a lot longer. I make the batter the evening before so it sits all night and then I cook up the crepes in the morning. He used to never eat breakfast and so I was thrilled when one day he wanted breakfast – so I got into the habit of making him a hot breakfast. However, when I make breakfast he walks the dog. So, I don’t actually have to get up any earlier. Plus, walking the dog in the pitch black at 5:30am is kind of scary so I’d rather be home making crepes….

And good job on walking! I’ve had friends who have tried to do too much after pregnancy and they talk about things “almost falling out”. I’m not sure what that means but it doesn’t sound pleasant!

Janae – you are so cute. I have one running skirt (Brooks, of course!) and it’s really nice. It has a wee pocket on the short underneath for a gel. I like the zippered pocket at the waist too. I was a late adopter to a skirt, but I really think it’s a fun change.

Brooke is so, so sweet. Really, if anything could make me want to have a baby, it’s reading your blog. I told the husband, Ok, I think I’m ready! :)

So far I’ve met a couple of our neighbors since we moved here to Indiana! One of them, my fiance’s classmate, cooked us authentic Indian Curry a couple nights ago, it was out of this world delish!!! I need to hop to it and make our neighbors dinner and have them over :) Janae, your little girl is ADORABLE. I can’t get over how precious she is, and that hair! I hope my future babies have half that amount of hair!! I love your blog even MORE than I already did because I get to see pictures of your amazing adorable little peanut! Sounds like you’re doing fantastic job as a mommy, so so so happy for you and Billy!!!

I love running in skirts. :) I run all my races (and most of my training runs!) in them. Maybe someday, I’ll be such an awesome athlete that Skirt Sports will take me on as one of their athletes. ;)
I know my neighbors well. It makes me feel safe in our neighborhood!
Yesterday I made these Paleo Zucchini muffins that I got from one of Tina’s recipes on http://carrotsncake.com and they are pretty darn delicious.
Love all the pictures of your spiky-haired beauty :)

David and I LOVE our new neighbors. They feed us all.the.time. She’ll get up at 5AM to make homemade biscuits for her egg, cheese and bacon sandwiches. And they’ll make us pasta, meatballs, chicken, whatever! It’s like having our grandparents right next door. :-)

I am cracking up at the rude neighbors title! I WISH we hung out with our neighbors more…we live in the country so I only have 2 neighbors. The family across the street has a daughter the same age as our youngest son, and the mom went to school with my husband and they’re all super nice…but we NEVER hang out. No idea why. We talk more now that she got facebook though…gotta love messenger! I always feel rude with DH is out with the barbeque since it always smells amazing!

I last baked chocolate zucchini bread. I’m thinking of finding a zucchini/banana bread recipe since I found a LOT of frozen bananas in the freezer last week when I cleaned it. (I always tell DH I’ll make bread with the over ripe ones and he rolls his eyes as I put them in the freezer. Eye roll justified I guess)

I LOVE my running skirts! I have 5, so I can wear one every run, if I am so inclined. (I like them for many reasons, but the best one being I can stop and pee and still have coverage if I pull the legs to the side. I’ve perfected that move! I do still hide in the woods and do it only if necessary, but having 2 kids…it’s necessary on about half my long runs!) I only race in my black one though, it’s comfiest (no ride-up in the shorts). I’m looking forward to sporting my running skirt and my awesome new compression socks at the same time. Sassy!

My breakfast making time: 90 seconds. I usually eat betteroats oatmeal. I love the flavors…but I’m trying to stick with the plain, raw and add fruit and honey. Once school starts next week though, I will probably go back to the sugar filled ones. Oh well.

Also, Brooke is GORGEOUS! If anything would make me want to have a third, your posts are it!

Reply

I’ve never ran in a running skirt, but I love Brooks-especially because my brother used to work there. My whole family has tons of Brooks gear. My mornings I pack food for the whole work day. So I make b-fast, lunch and snacks. That can take 20 minutes or even up to an hour. I cut up fresh veggies and throw into broth with pre-cooked chicken (I cook ahead) for a low fat soup. Salads, hard boiled eggs or whatever else sounds good to me that day.

Reply

I love my running skirt. It is so cool and nice especially since I have thunder thighs. Can’t wait for you to try it out. Mine isn’t a Brooks, but I do enjoy it!

Reply

I got my first running skirt from lululemon (thank you christmas gc) this spring and love it!

I’ve moved a ton but have never really known any of my neighbors. Funny though, one of my friends from HS who was my neighbor back then has followed my footsteps in my NYC apartment trail (4 different areas) and currently lives a block away.

I baked zucchini / carrot bread – first time baking bread ever! And it actually is kind of yummy.
