Billy and I are VERY different. He is all done with his undergrad degree in electrical engineering but isn’t going to go to graduation and I had to beg him to let me throw a graduation party for him. I think I turned my graduation into a week event with 4 different parties and wore my cap and gown for 48 hours after the ceremony. I guess he doesn’t like all of the focus on him or something? Yeah, I don’t understand either;)
Instead of posting a picture of him at graduation I will just post one from my graduation and pretend like I am holding Billy up in his cap and gown.
We had Billy’s favorite foods for dinner… Hamburgers and hot dogs.
Pretty sure that burger is bigger than curly’s head. Seeing the three of them at the counter is one of my favorite things to see.
I asked my grandma how much she is going to miss us on a scale from 1 to 10 and she said 9.75. I am still trying to figure out where I went wrong for the .25 but I think it is because I am the one that eats all of her fruit.
You know we had to have the Costco Chocolate cake for dessert. PLEASE tell me that this cake reminds you of the one from the movie Matilda that the boy was forced to eat on stage. Every time I eat this cake I have to quote at least 4 different lines from that movie.
This cake is a beast in the best possible way. It is really weird but all of my family members eat all of the cake part and leave most of the frosting on the plate but I am the complete opposite. I down the frosting first and if I am not too full then I eat the cake part too.
Speaking of desserts, I cleaned out our fridge and freezer. The only item of food that was saved was my Rolo McFlurry. All I need in life. Billy don’t even come near the McFlurry.
Just in case you need a little motivation to get out the door and get in a good workout today…
Cake or frosting? Which is gone first on your plate?
Hamburger or hot dog or neither?
What was the last celebration you went to or had?
What color was your cap and gown?!?!
What is going to be the best part of your Thursday?
-When we pass cleaning checks at 4:30 pm and we are all done cleaning:)
Congrats to Billy–what an accomplishment!!!
I hope all your last minute cleaning goes smoothly! Your grandma is so funny;-)
Best part of my Thursday–hanging out w/my 2 year old and seeing my mom this afternoon.
CONGRATS 2 BILLY!! :)
YES, “Matilda cake!!” I tell the kids that that cake reminds me of “Matilda.” funny!! :)
-I love the frosting. esp. buttercream.
-hot dog for me
– best part of Thurs.- checking out pre-school’s for Royce
have a great day pretty lady!! xo :)
congrats to Billy! What an accomplishment! I can tell you are very proud of him!
My favorite part is def the frosting, so I eat all the cake first and save every bit of frosting for one huge sugar filled rush at the end :)
I like burgers and dogs myself.
Tonight hubby and I are celebrating our 13 month wedding anniversary… Yep we celebrate monthly and we’ve been celebrating monthly since we started dating over 4 years ago…. I’ve gotten a card every month and in each one he tells me how he feels :) I am soooo lucky!
My gown was white for hs grad and black for college and my masters grads.
Went to a bridal shower
Meeting a girlfriend for coffee and getting a manicure.
Happy Cleaning, I suggest sleeping in, a run, out to lunch to help procrastinate.
Congrats to Billy!
Also, before you even said Matilda, that’s exactly what I was thinking from the looks of that cake. When I was little I used to pretend when I was eating cake that I was eating THAT cake from the movie. Foodie at heart.
I haven’t tried the Rolo McFlurry yet, it’s on my summer to do list now! :)
omg I think the same thing when I eat that cake! Why is it so good?!
Ha Ha Ha, girl I’m loving EVERYTHING about this post. Before reading this, my day has been rather blah, so thank you!!
cake. hot dog. my brother’s graduation party/my going away party. so far my thursday hasn’t been too good… is it bad to say that my breakfast smoothie has been the best part??
BRUCE BOGTROTTER! Haha. That cake looks really good.
An empty fridge has got to be one of the weirdest sights ever!
Congrats to Billy!!!
Love the movie Matilda and that cake totally looks like the one they used!! Never tried that cake so will make sure it’s on the list next time I go.
Icing for me!!! At a party I’d choose hot dogs b/c I make turkey burgers for myself all the time. I prefer my hot dogs burnt. That’s not too weird is it?!
College cap & gown were black. And my Thursday will be celebrated by a mini college reunion dinner tonight with a few girlfriends!!! :)
Your grandma is adorable!!!! 9.75…….that’s hilarious!!!!! ;) Guess you know who to suck up to the most before leaving! Ha!
Omg I call that Costco came the Matilda cake too! I somehow turn into that boy that had to eat the chocolate cake all by himself every time we get one, I take a swipe every time I walk by! Too funny!
Erin @ The Grass Skirt
Congrats to Billy! :) I love all of the pictures.
I’m definitely a frosting girl. ;)
Congratulations, Billy! Graduating feels amazing, even if you’re heading right back to school in a matter of weeks!
Also, despite our new status as bffs, I feel I’ve neglected our friendship recently. In order to make up for this, I present you (and Billy) with these links:
I’m so excited I don’t even know what to do with myself! And, yes, Perez Hilton is basically my main news source throughout the day. As a new librarian, I feel like I should slightly ashamed of this. :)
Kelli @ HowdyFromNYC
Your hair looks GORGEOUS in that pic with your Gma! How on earth do you get it like that?!
chelsey @ clean eating chelsey
My parents wouldn’t throw me a college graduation party. :( Instead, they brought me to Europe!!! Even trade I think! Ps, I’m super nosy, but do your sister and nieces and nephew live with your parents? That would be like an instant party ALL the time. The year after I graduated college, my sister and brother in law lived with all of us and it was SO much fun.
Kari @ Running Ricig
Congratulations to Billy!! Also, that cake looks freaking amazing!
Allison @ Can't Wait For Breakfast
I loved the Matilda movie! We still use the word “chokey”! If the dogs have to go in their crates we say – “go get in the chokey!” haha :)
Congrats to Billy! Cake. Hamburger. My b-day. Black. Eating. Your pics are super cute!
Angie @ Pint of Goals
Congrats Billy! He’s such a smarty-pants!
Good luck on your cleaning checks.
I love the quote you finished your blog with – I am feeling a little sore today after upping my weight at BodyPump and I love it!
Congratulations Billy on graduating especially with such a challenging major! But you did have such awesome support from Janae!
Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries
Yay! Congrats Billy! I just love all of your questions today, so I’m going to go right down the list…
-Frosting over cake for sure! I love me some buttercream frosting!
-I’m all about the hamburgers. Hotdogs aren’t my thing.
-I honestly can’t remember the last celebration we had… Sad?!
-My cap and gown were black!
-Best part of my Thursday will probably be my workout. Oh, and breakfast was pretty great too. I love breakfast. ;)
Frosting all the way!
Meghan Rene @ Uncooked & UnWalked
Congrats, Billy! I am more of a cake person… I find frosting too sweet sometimes.
Congratulations, Billy! I hope you are proud of yourself and good luck in law school! (Also, congratulations Janae on cleaning out the fridge–its my least favorite part of moving.) That last pic/quote is the desktop background on my computer! I love it and it helps my stay motivated to sweat before I waste all my time on facebook. Ha!
Your blog is my daily hit of happy :)
Congrats to Billy!
Best part of my day will be the gig we’re going to tonight. I love live music!
Heather @ Run Eat Play
Congrats to Billy!
No hot dogs or hamburgers for me!
My high school cap and gown was a yellow goldish color. My college cap and gown was black.
Rolo Mcflurries are the best! I was so sad when they discontinued them here, but luckily, they brought them back :)
Cake – I am usually not a fan of frosting.
Neither usually! But I did crave a hot dog a couple months ago and had one.
My Mom’s birthday.
Black, blue and yellow if I remember right.
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats
Omg I always eat the frosting first, it’s the BEST part! I hate when people leave frosting on their plate… It hurts my soul.
Gracie (Complicated Day)
Congratulations, Billy! That’s a tough degree to earn from a demanding school – good job.
Caroline @ After Dinner Dance
Omg Matilda cake! YES! That was one of my all time favorite movies growing up :)
congratulations to billy and all of his hard work.
frosting all the way. of course. im the person who goes around asking people, are you gonna eat that frosting on your plate? No? Can I have it?
Is Billy much younger than you or was this just a long program? Just curious :)
Way to go, Billy!
I’m actually a year older than Janae but it is a 5 year program and I took 2 years off to live in Ukraine (a church mission), and then took another couple semesters off to earn some money.
Yellow Haired Girl
That cake scene always grossed me out in that movie. Hated it. I’m glad to see it hasn’t changed your perception ;)
yay congrats to billy!!! thats so exciting!
cheeseburger fan here, holla!
last celebration I went to was my brothers birthday party I believe…
my cap and gown was black and red. pretty boring :)
best part of my thursday is finally spending time with Kev after barely seeing him since sunday…opposite schedules suck. especially when I want to be in bed by 830 pm every night bc training poops me out.
Beth (Running with the Sunrise)
Big congrats to Billy! I’m sure it’s not easy to get a degree in electrical engineering. Maybe you should get him his own McFlurry to celebrate? :)
CONGRATULATIONS, BILLY!!! :) :) It is such a big deal to do so well in such a challenging major…I’m glad he let you throw him a party!
The picture of you, your grandmother, and Billy is so cute. As a gerontology major, I LOVE older adults. Please note the similar head tilt that you and your grandmother both have going on. So cute.
That cake looks phenomenal. Have a great Thursday!
mountain girl heidi
I totally want to watch that movie now. And YES, it looks like the cake.
I’m a fairly new reader of your blog, and I love it! While I aspire to be a marathoner (long term), I think that after my 26.2 and 50k (ack) this fall, I’m going to stick with the 1/2 marathon, because my body doesn’t hate me as much during the training for one. I’ll experience the marathon vicariously through you.
I save frosting for last because it’s the best, especially at Costco. Sadly, the lady celebration I attended didn’t have dessert but it did have hamburgers and toddlers running relay races :) Olympic themed, super fun.
My cap and gown were white and I had just gone blond and it looked so orange against the cloth… so tragic. Best part of Thursday is a maid is coming. I’ve never had one and I am so looking forward to a sparkling shower! Have a great day!
Yay for Billy’s graduation and yay for passing the cleaning inspection. Probably equals on the ‘importance’ scale ;)
I have yet to try a rolo mcflurry. Ross LOVES them though & keeps telling I should try them, but then never shares. Go figure,
Frosting. Most definitely. Unless it is the grocery store lard crap frosting (official name), then I choose cake. I am not much of a cake kind of girl. On my birthday I ask for brownies and ice cream.
Hamburgers….with bacon, avocado and grilled pineapple. Otherwise probably neither.
My my, don’t I sound picky and high maintainance today! (errr I am every day. let’s be honest)
We had a baby blessing last Sunday. Does that count as a ‘celebration’?
I will be happy when all the packing is done today and we are ON OUR WAY to Bear Lake.
Enjoy your last weekend in Utah. Sniff. I miss you already :(
I eat all the cake first, but only because then I am left with the best part, the icing, and I eat it all up. And then I normally steal some extra frosting off the cake or someone else’s plate. My parents have the perfect marriage– my dad likes cakes and doesn’t love icing, and my mom loves icing and doesn’t love the cake… they each get a piece and my mom eats all the icing and my dad eats all the cake. True love <3
Chelsea @ http://prettyrunner.tumblr.com
Congrats BILLY!!!!!! :D
BOTH!! I rip off the top and put it aside, then I eat the cake part, and once done I eat the top with frosting :)
Neither :) I choose sausage!! I cant say no to a sausage.
Last graduation I went to was my brother’s, and all we had for dessert was cookies, they should have let me make cupcakes!!
My cap and gown was white :)
the best part of my thursday will be getting off work (once it hits 1pm the countdown begins, only 4 more hours!) and getting to see my bf :)
Congrats on graduating Billy! In less than a year I will have my EE degree as well. I know the pain and can’t wait to be done. Hope you guys had a blast!
Hooray for Billy!
Cake all the way. I decorate cakes as a hobby, and after you make icing enough times, it loses its charm. I save filling for last, since that’s my favorite part. I’m a hamburger kind of girl. The last celebration I went to was last Saturday. My cousin graduated from Nursing school. He’s amazing. My cap and gown were red for high school. For undergrad and masters it was black. The best part of my Thursday is we are going to the lake! Time for some boating, riding the wave runner, swimming, and relaxation with family and friends.
IDK My BFF Jes
I can’t believe Billy is missing graduation!
Cake is gone first because I usually over frost.
Both! I love hamburgers, but sometimes I just want a hot dog…like at baseball games. Or when camping!
This morning. The begining of my bday celebration!
Black on black. Texas Tech!
My bday. I made chocolate cupcakes from scratch (I don’t play) then I’m going to have a dance party during bodyjam! Don’t worry, I will be celebrating through the weekend!
Danica @ It's Progression
That chocolate cake DEFINITELY looks like the one from Matilda!! I’ve never been much of a frosting lover, I easily go for the cake part first.
I am at the tail and of celebrating my birthday week. It’s been wonderful!
Congrats to Billy. What a great accomplishment.
Frosting all the way!! My hubby eats the cake and I get double frosting.
Last celebration was a baby naming for my niece two weeks ago and next weekend I have another summer wedding, I sure love wedding cake!
Cake. Definitely cake. I give Michael the frosting.
I have to REALLY want a hot dog. Or a hamburger. Unless it has bacon on it.
We had a dinner party for 10 that we went to at a restaurant. It was fun.
Cap and gown were maroon.
Picking out our hockey seats for the new season!!!! They are having an open house and we get to walk around the stadium and each seat will have a tag. When we find the seats we want, we bring them the tags and tell them which games we want!!!!
The Kidless Kronicles
Alex @ Healthy Life Happy Wife
I love Matilda!! & that cake is totally like the cake from the movie! I’m more of a cake person than frosting – too sugary for me!
My cap & gown was navy blue too! Both for undergraduate & law school!
Michelle @ A Healthy Mrs
Congrats to Billy!!
And that cake looks AMAZING! Yummmmmm……
Turkey burgers! I don’t do the beef too much…
My mom’s 60th birthday was a few days ago and so we had a big celebration/dinner for her! It was a lot of fun and I have never seen her smile so much.
Best part of my day SO far has been my run this morning! I was not really feeling it this morning but I jumped on the treadmill and got it done! Tomorrow is rest day then a 12 mile recovery long run this wknd :) and then 2 months away from the Marine Corps Marathon! Woot!!
Anne @ LoveMintChocolateChip
Congrats to Billy! You guys are SO freaking cute! I was showing my mom pics of you last night (Creeeppyy?) telling her I hope I look like you when I am pregnant!!!!! She thought you were adorable!!!
i love frosting way more than cake, unless it’s that fairly newish, absolutely disgusting ‘whipped frosting’. seriously WTH is that awfulness?? if someone gets that kind of cake i won’t eat either the cake or the frosting i just get really angry with whomever bought the cake. what? i got all excited for cake and they got that crap? way to ruin my day, now i don’t want ANYTHING!
qorn ficken (fake chicken patties). best. food. ever.
my cap and gown for high school was white, and for college, black. most boring colors ever.
congrats to billy!!
Girl! You crack me up! I love your blog! Congrats to Billy and congrats on your new bundle of joy! :)
Oh my gosh, I died laughing when you mentioned Matilda and the chocolate cake. “You can do it, Brucie!” is one of my favorite lines, and I insert it into conversations frequently, especially given that my dad’s name is Bruce. ;)
Anyway, I love your blog, and even though I’m working through an injury right now, I can’t wait to hit the pavement and begin running again. You’re an inspiration. Thank you!
Matilda is coming to broadway next year…AMAZING?! i think so…COME!
Laura is Undeterrable
I try to make it work so that I can have cake and frosting in every bite.
My cap and gown was black. Probably a good thing – our colors are purple and white and I would have died in that sea of purple.
The best part of Thursday is taco salad for lunch and Olympic Lifting class tonight.
Way to go Billy! Congrats!
I love the cake AND the frosting! Yummo!
I like hamburgers better. Nothing like a thick, juicy burger. I like the way you feel afterwards. I think its the iron. I crave them!
My cap and grown were black.
What grade do you teach? I’m a teacher also, currently looking for a job.
Have a great day! I love the quote.
“You can do it Brucey!!!” haha love Matilda!! Congratulations to Billy! Looks like you guys had a great night! take care :)
COGNRATS Billy!!! Now on to Grad school. I remember the transition from undergrad to grad school. It was weird at my undergrad graduation because all I could think of is why am I celebrating? Im only half way through.
I wanted to tell you how much I have missed you!! We completed our move and finally got internet and now I can read your blog again! Yay!
Lisa @ Lisa the Vegetarian
I will never for the life of me understand the people who eat the cake and leave behind the frosting! I am a frosting girl all the way and that will never, ever change. I’m also the girl who requests the corner piece on every cake just to have more of it!
And congrats to Billy!
Erin @ erinberries
Ahhhh! I totally forgot about McFlurry’s!!!! I want a Butterfinger one pronto!
Congrats to Billy!!! My husband is an ag/bio engineer. I know how tough engineering school can be!
Cake. My husband eats my leftover frosting and I get his cake. Match made in heaven.
Neither. I do like turkey burgers, black bean burgers, or anything that isn’t beef. And lots of KETCHUP!
The last celebration I can recall was my 3rd wedding anniversary on 7/3. We had homemade chocolate cake and homemade ice cream too!
Red and White cap and gown. For high school, undergrad, and grad school! Crazy.
I get to stay home today for once, no appointments, so I plan on catching up on laundry and cleaning! Fun times.
Congrats to Billy!!!
I love cake, I can’t have too much frosting and I always need ice cream with cake!
Right now I’d pick a hamburger over a hotdog ;)
(Billy – I hope you and Janae will come and run the Eugene Marathon!!! please oh pleaseeee)
matilda! YES! that cake always reminds me of that movie too!
Blaire @ Just Been Running
Congrats to Billy!
1. Frosting is always gone first! And then I eat everyone else’s :)
2. Cheeseburger all the way, but I do like hotdogs at sporting events!
3. My cap and gown was black..not sure why because I went to Auburn and we are orange and blue?
4. Last celebration was…a going away party for our friends moving to Nashville at our house. Not really a celebration because we are sad they left, but it was a nice party and send off!
5. I’m looking forward to going to the gym after work, and then packing tonight to head home to see my parents in SC this weekend!
I am a frosting freak! I prefer that over the cake. And costco has the best cakes ever!
Congrats to Billy!
Congrats Billy!!!! What a fun night and I just love your cute family and especially your grandma. She is an absolute doll. I am 100% with you on the frosting thing. I mean seriously don’t even include the cake just give me frosting and icecream and keep refilling it. :)
Have an amazing day my sweet friend!
congrats to one amazing couple. COngrats Billy for being so UBER SMART! Youre kids are going to be child prodigies!
the cake totally reminds me of Matilda!
Frosting. I don’t “get” people who don’t like frosting.
I was just finalizing my costco list for tomorrow and, no joke, chocolate cake just got added. I’m 25 weeks pregnant and have barely indulged…it’s time!
CONGRATS to Billy!!!
I don’t love cake at all, but I do like a good frosting…so I eat the frosting with ice cream. Must have ice cream. ;)
Turkey burger for me!
Beth @ Miles and Trials
Congratulations to Billy! Your grandma is beyond precious.
Best part of my Thursday so far was my 11.5 mile run this morning. Just had to squeeze that last .5 mile in before work. Totally worth having greasy hair for the extra half mile!
Congrats Billy! So awesome. And I think that motivational pic is motivating. I need to do 2 miles today. I don’t want to regret not doing it!
Shari @ The Daily Dish
Congrats to Billy! I’m loving that workout quote. Thanks for the inspiration. :)
Blakely @ The Husky Life
That cake looks phenomenal. They have one just like it at my parents’ country club and I swear it is my absolute favorite food. Cake or icing???? How could I possibly ever choose?
Definitely needed the inspiration to work out today. I’m sitting at my desk trying to think of every excuse not too… ran hard yesterday, pms, sleepy from staying up watching the Olympics, etc…. LOL :) but you are right, I will feel the guilt if I don’t!
molly @ heart, sole & cereal
matilda is one of the best movies ever. i watched it the other day (i have to watch it any time it is on tv, it’s like molly law) and took lots of notes for how to be a better teacher this year using skills from ms honey and anti-skills from the trunchbull. i’m headed back to grad school this fall to hopefully become a principal and i think i’m going to make kids eat entire cakes as rewards instead of as punishments. michelle obama would probs not approve, but hey, i’ll make them all go out to pe twice those days :)
I am like Billy, I didn’t go to my undergraduate graduation OR my masters graduation! My mom made me promise we would go to my master graduation but I had to do a summer internship so going to August graduation would require us driving 3 hours there and 3 hours back. She admitted she didn’t really want to do that so I ended up not going haha. I went to my boyfriend’s (now husband’s) graduation though!
Okay, I LOVED your Matilda reference. You’re so funny!
Yes, yes it does remind me of that. And I seriously am craving that chocolate cake now. Give me some, please!?
And I don’t even like cake that much… I lick off all the frosting and leave the cake most of the time!!! Frosting for sure!
Congrats Billy! I’d choose brownies over cake, hehe! My mom makes THE best homemade chocolate frosting…incredibly bad for you, but also incredible good for you, lol. Last celebration I had was my sister-in-law’s college graduation. :) Oh, and I’d choose a burger over a dog.
YAY Billy! Congrats!! :)
YES, that cake totally looks like the Matilda cake.
I still can’t believe it’s getting closer & closer to you guys moving to CA, I feel like it was just yesterday when you were heading out there to look at schools.
AND your little lady is going to be here VERY soon! My sister (who is also due August 24th with a girl), is already 3cm dialated! I’m SO excited, can’t wait to meet her!
Kristen @ notsodomesticated
Congrats to Billy! So when do you make the big move??
Sonia the Mexigarian
Congrats to Billy :)
Never saw matilda so….don’t understand the reference, lol.
Cake first, frosting second, unless it’s carrot cake then it’s frosting all the way.
Congrats Billy! How exciting :-). Of course you had to keep the McFlurry, Duh!
With any luck, I’ll graduate in a couple of months in purple and black (are all law schools purple? It seems to be a thing here). More importantly, FROSTING – but I usually leave it to last because it’s the best bit.
YOU CAN DO IT, BRUCIE, YOU CAN DO IT! BRUCE, BRUCE, BRUCE!
wait I am SO GLAD that someone else understands! I like to just eat the frosting off the cake and sometimes (read: all the time) get some interesting looks. what can I say, the frosting is just so much better! haha
In all seriousness, though, a huge CONGRATULATIONS to Belly…what an accomplishment! and best of luck with the move – bittersweet I’m sure
I eat the frosting first, for sure. The cake is just a vehicle to get the frosting to the plate.
Irina @ Chocolatea Time
Congrats to Billy!! I’m totally biased because I studied engineering as well (civil engineering) but engineers rock :)
Much too good for children! Ha ha great movie…
natalie @ southern fit foodie
Congrats Billy! I may have to just party in your honor. :)
I like cake and frosting, and I like to have them in the same bite.
Hamburgers usually over hot dogs (unless at a baseball game) – and Daniel’s burgers are my favorite (they have sausage and BACON in them as well as jalapenos and pineapple!).
In high school, my cap and gown were purple, and in college and grad school they were black.
I am actually celebrating tonight. My SIL and her family are moving 13 hours away (BOO!) so we are going to have an all night girls night!!!!!!
okay, i want a rolo mcflurry right now.
but then i also want to work out. how dare you do this to me!!!! oh, well. workout first, mcflurry after. ;)
also! i am such a frosting person. it’s the BEST part of any cake, hands down.
HAMBURGER. I swear I could eat a burger a day for the rest of my life and be the happiest camper. I love burgers.
And I’m a cake girl all the way. Frosting is fine, but cake and I are besties for life.
I don’t know how anyone can leave frosting on their plate! It’s the best part … I usually am the one scraping all the leftovers out of the box. I eat the cake first and save the frosting for last.
Good luck on your move!
I am glad for commenting to let you understand what a fabulous experience my wife’s daughter found checking the blog. She noticed plenty of details, with the inclusion of how it is like to possess an amazing teaching mood to make certain people with no trouble know various problematic matters. You undoubtedly exceeded my expected results. Many thanks for churning out these beneficial, trusted, edifying as well as easy tips about this topic to Tanya.
