4 a.m. run and a baby shower

I can now officially declare myself crazy.  This last week I have been waking up for GOOD at around 3.  My eyes go wide open, I feel like partying and there is no way I can go back to sleep.

Sometimes watching an hour of Netflix on my phone will help me fall back asleep but last night that didn’t even do the trick.  So, I got up like any other normal 8.5 months pregnant girl and ran on my treadmill.  It was scary how awake and great I felt at 4 in the morning.  I ran 7 miles, took a shower, ate some breakfast, got back in bed and woke up at 9 ready for the day.  This may be the new routine for the next few weeks and I kind of loved it.

I loved baby showers before but now I love them even more because I want to talk about babies 24/7 and so did everyone else at the shower.  PS can someone teach me how to put together such an incredible spread like this one?  I feel like if I threw a baby shower there would be a plate of pb no bake cookies, a 12 pack of Country Time Lemonade and baked potatoes.

I had to take the above picture and crop it to show off my favorite dish ever.  That is homemade macaroni and cheese with the best crumbly goodness on top.  I went back for more of that cheesy goodness a few times and I will be bugging her for the recipe.

There are some vegetables on the plate.  It was so refreshing to talk to the girl the shower was for about how hard it is to eat veggies now.  Back in the day we used to eat salad mountains daily together, hopefully I will love them again.

Real people clothes are always a million times cuter when they are shrunk down to baby size.

The group of girls.  I always tell Billy that I will be back in an hour when I go to these kinds of things and he just adds 2.5 hours to whatever I say to get the real time of when I will be home.  Girls like talking, I feel like we need to do things like this for our survival.

What was the last vegetable you ate?  Have you always loved veggies or did you grow to like them?

What time is the earliest you have gone for a run (not counting races)?

What are you up to this afternoon?

Is it raining anywhere else too because today and yesterday have been quite gloomy here!

Ugh pregnancy insomnia is the worst! By the end of my first pregnancy I was the same way, and since I wasn’t allowed to work out, I’d go to work very early and be done for the day very early. Now that baby is a toddler and I’m pregnant with #2, but so far I’m still allowed to work out so I’ve just been going to the gym an hour earlier than I used to and take advantage of extra quiet time before the rest of the house wakes up!

WOW…you would go into work early, you are awesome! Why weren’t you allowed to work out with the first one. Way to go to the gym early with the 2nd and enjoy the time when everyone is still sleeping. It really is so strange because I want to sleep so bad but I just can’t!

Because you are wide awake, right? Crazy! I had an umbilical cord issue but all was well in the end. By the way, I posted about which wich yesterday and got your recommendation…sooooo good!!!

I absolutely positively lovee love love veggies! Growing up I ate them because I had to but now I literally crave them. I simply don’t think I could last a day without carrots.
And don’t even get me started on root vegetables!

I think I have always liked veggies. My mom tells me I use to teethe on pickles which would explain my obsession with them now (I am in fact eating bread & butter chips on crackers with mustard as I type- delicious!)

It was gloomy here all day, but the sun is out now!

And, I NEVER get up earlier than 6ish to run by choice :)

Oh my gosh, that spread looks fantastic!

I wasn’t a huge fan of veggies as a kid, but as I get older I love them more and more. I think my earliest run was probably my long run last weekend; I was up at 4 AM and out the door a little after 4:30 in order to try to beat the heat. It’s been really rainy, too, where I’m at in South Carolina, which makes running outside feel just gross because it’s so HUMID. I’m counting down the days until fall.

I would starve to death if it weren’t for veggies. lol I just had a big ol’ spinach/arugula/cucumber/tomato/broccoli/sesame seed salad a couple hours ago.

It’s raining here today, too. THANK GOD! We needed it so badly!

That is one hot group of girls. Seriously. Baby bumps and all. lol

I have totally done the 4am TM run a couple of times with the back to bed. It;s like we have to run our energy out or something. It’s great “me” time….the world seems so quiet with the stillness of slumber.

My lunches still look like your pre-pregnancy salads, so I have had every raw veggie under the sun today.

We just got back from running errands, and I plan to put together a spaghetti dinner here in a bit.

That food all looks amazing!!
I still struggle to really ‘like’ most veggies…I eat them because i know they’re good for me, but the only ones I actually really like and sometimes crave are carrots, sweet potatoes, and celery. If only I loved veggies the way I love fruit–I would eat fruit all day every day if I didn’t actually need the nutrients from other foods!

I love baby showers too! They are such fun girl time and I love talking about babies and seeing all the gifts. I thew my sister two baby showers (one for each kid) and loved putting it all together. I did a baked potato bar – everyone had a baked potato and then we had a ton of toppings (sausage, bacon, sour cream, cheese, chives, veggies, etc.). It was a hit.

The last veggie I ate was a tomato, but it was smothered in pesto and had those delicious mozz balls with them. So I think that canceled out the healthiness of the tomato. I never really liked vegetables and still don’t enjoy them too much. I eat them because I know they are good for me but I could easily pass them by. And I pretty much only like raw veggies – nothing cooked.

When I was training for my last marathon I had to get up on Saturdays and do my long runs starting at 4:15am. I had Anatomy class at 9:30am and I needed to finish before then. It was kinda miserable, especially since it was still dark out and I was scared of boogey-men. I would finish my run, hop in an ice bath and study my anatomy terms, eat breakfast, and then have to stand for three hours and dissect stuff. I am pretty amazed I survived.

This afternoon I am curtain shopping (we just moved into a new apartment with no shades) and hopefully grocery shopping. Except it’s almost 6pm so it’s not really the afternoon anymore.

It’s been super hot here in DC for a while but today it poured in the morning. It’s been a kind of gloomy day but it’s a nice change from 100* weather.

Have a great weekend!

What a cute baby shower – I always love all of the food at any baby/wedding shower :-)

I have woken up pretty early to run before vacation a few times – maybe 4 or 4:30. But that’s always just a mile or so to shake out my legs!

Last veg? Said that I can’t remember.. Does spinach count? Had that for lunch of Thursday. Earlier run was at 5:15.. Heat hits fast in MS and we would meet up as a group for long runs VERY early! Oh and who doesn’t LOVE talkig babies?! Well, maybe I’m meaning holding and playing and starring at babies haha they always smell so good!

I love that you run miles at 4 am. Awesome!!!!! I get up and blog if it’s before 3am and if it’s after 4 sometimes I will run :) not alone!!!

Spaghetti squash for lunch today! It was spicy and garlic-y, so yummy.

I have a HARD time with veggies. Come to think of it, I haven’t even eaten one today. NOT ONE. The last one was yesterday – baby carrots!!

5am is the earliest I’ve been up so I don’t think you’re THAT crazy!! It’s better to get it out of the way before your mind and body actually realize what you’re doing!!

No rain here! Just HOT HOT HOT! Kind of uncomfortable though.

Want to send me some of that mac and cheese?! Holy cow it looks delicious!

Reply

Cute baby shower! Is that salsa/guacamole with cheese/olives in a cup? Great idea! I think you are a little crazy, but in a good way. I can’t imagine waking up running, then going back to bed! haha I started liking veggies more in high school then it tripled in college when I could try a whole bunch of new veggies. Now I’m a total veggie addict. But I’ve never been big on fruits. My husband is the total opposite. We just had zucchini and sweet potato with our dinner.

Reply

That spread looks delicious! I love Mac and cheese. 5am is the earliest for me. I love asparagus and spinach but I should eat more veggies in general.

Reply

So how many miles does that put you at for the week now?!?! Aaaaand what kind of treadmill do you have, because I’m pretty sure I want a cool looking one like you have! Note: please tell my husband to start selling his stuff like Billy did to buy one…k, thanks!! haha

Naps after a good run are the best & the fruit platter looks delicious!!

Last veggie…carrots & this homemade corn/black bean salsa I made.
Earliest I ve woken up to run voluntarily around 515am. I need to make this a habit :).

Today I worked 7-3 shift ( pediatric nurse) then I rushed home to get ready for a race. A very small fun race called the James river splash n dash 5k & 1/3 mi tubing. The starting point was only a mile from our apt so we jogged there, got our bibs and then the tstorm rolled in… So we had to wait 30 minutes to start by the time I lost all motivation and it got even more humid if that’s even possible ?? Our weather guy has an avatar he used to judge humidy levels and it was in the red before the storm! I let it get it to my head and definitely lagged on mile 2, Zack didn’t say anything but his facial expression was like comon christie its a 5k- you do that for breakfast! It really said all that with a quick glance back lol. Now we are headed about an hour East of Richmond, to a drive in movies. We’re going to see Brave & the amazing spider man.. Guarantee to fall asleep during one of them!
Hope everyone enjoys their evenings!

looks like fun!

Holy cow! That is amazing that you woke up and just ran at 4 a.m. I think I would die. The earliest I’ve ever run is like 6:30 a.m. Hah.

CUTE baby shower! That food does look delicious :)

Reply

You are amazing! I probably would have just laid there, awake, and whined about it. Way to make good use of your time!

I think the earliest I have woken up is 4:45 & I hope that I never have to wake up any earlier! Ever!

Just hanging out with the fam in bear lake today. Just made dinner for everyone (Greek pitas with corn on the cob, watermelon and pasta salad).

I love veggies. I think broccoli and asparagus are my favorite. When I was dating my husband I went over to his family’s house for dinner & his mom made a ton of vegetables cause she knew I liked them (sweet) even though her kids didn’t. They all came from cans, or were over cooked and the salad was just iceberg. I had to gag it down to be polite…and then I understood why none of them liked vegetables. Lol.

If you threw a party and only served pb cookies, lemonade, and baked potatoes, I’d come! Some of my fav foods :)

I spy some olives on your plate!!!

Hahah you are good! The we’re taken off immediately after the picture:)

It has been raining down here in Houston for the week and it’s supposed to continue into next week. I guess we are making up for the drought that hit us last summer. I’m not complaining, because I don’t ever remember 85 degree weather happening in Houston, Tx during the month of July. I’ll take it! The food spread from the shower looks terrific! I didn’t always like veggies, actually I hated them. I have grown to love them now and I really do love almost all veggies. Funny, I guess my mom telling me to eat all my veggies growing up actually paid off. My husband on the other hand can’t stand them.

Your fall colors are lovley. Ours is coming, but slowly. It’s a bit later than usual. Vermont is supposed to be THE place to view foliage, but maybe it’s for the best as the roads here still have a way to go, recovering from Hurricane Irene’s devastation.Happy Fall to you and the family.

Eating asparagus right now. :) I think I have always eaten veggies, but it has taken me a long time to appreciate them. Last time I woke ups early to run…uh probably 5 am. Hung over too. If I drink a bit, I always wake up early feeling like crap and a run usually sets me right mentally. I have been to maybe three baby showers in my life. The last one I went to the guest of honor told me I have to join the club soon. Lol. This afternoon I was at my studio painting on some work. Finished of a cat portrait commission. Woot.

Yikes that is so early! That happened to me too at first when I first got to CA because I was still on east coast time but luckily it went away.
That shower food looks awesome!! no shame in no veggies. I never disliked veggies when I was little and I won’t lie and say they’re my favorite food and I should probably eat more, but in general I like ’em

Here is a way to get some veggies w/ carbs. You can also add some sdehdred chicken to it for your meat.Summer Spaghetti Salad• 16 oz. thin spaghetti, broken• 3 medium tomatoes, diced• 3 small zucchini, diced• 1 cucumber, seeded and diced• 1 each red and green pepper, diced• 8 oz. Italian salad dressing• 2 tablespoons Parmesan cheese• 1 1/2 teaspoons sesame seeds• 1 1/2 teaspoons poppy seeds• 1/2 teaspoon paprika• 1/4 teaspoons celery seed• 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder• Cook spaghetti according to package directions; drain and rinse in cold water. Place in a large bowl; add tomatoes, zucchini, cucumber and peppers. In a separate bowl combine remaining ingredients; pour over salad and toss to coat. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.

The earliest I ever woke up was 5am…maybeee 4:45am…to run but it was brutal. I wish I could wake up with ease but it never happens!

I got up at 5.45 this week to run and I think it might be my earliest run ever. Which isn’t that bad but it felt AWFUL. I need to do it tomorrow too, so I can safely make church!!

I’ve always liked veggies, I think, but I prioritise them now, which is different. I eat them with appreciation. Having said that, I went to the Oakland Zoo this afternoon and had lunch – a veggie rice bowl – and it was HORRIFIC and nearly put me off veggies for life.

Wowie 6 am is my earliest..i need to buy a treadmill at home- would be so much more productive than twitter on my insomniac nights! Looking good, J!

I get up at 5:30 AM to run pretty often.

Today I went to the coast last minute. It was awesome!!

wow-that is early. I went through a wee (emphasise the wee) phase of getting up and running at 6. didn’t last long-7 am makes so much of a difference

Can you believe that the 9 months are almost all over?!?! That is so incredibly crazy! You’re looking adorable as ever!

You are one crazy pregnant lady, but isn’t that normal? You crack me up about your run :).

Looks like a fun and delicious baby shower!

I’m usually not an early morning runner. When we would go to group training runs for our spring race we would leave at 5:00 to get to our meeting place by 5:45. I prefer to run later at night–some of my best runs are at 10:00 at night!

I made an awesome Asian cucumber salad that I’ve been eating almost every day (sometimes twice a day) for the past week! I’ve also had salad for the past 4 big meals. I would say that I should change it up, but I love taking advantage of summer’s fresh produce!

7 miles at 4am you are a crazy girl! lol But at least you got your run in for the day!

Awwwh, that dressing gown is so cute!!

I am lucky that I have always loved vegetables, even when I was 100lbs over weight. I could eat them all day, everyday!
