Hooked on Weights and Ryan Gosling

I propose to all yogurt companies that they should make their yogurt containers bigger.  Keep the amount of yogurt the same but make plenty of room for me to throw in a bunch of fruit and granola in with the yogurt when I am in a hurry rushing out the door.

I am kind of getting hooked on pump.   I went to my THIRD class this week and I actually get excited to go lift weights which is not like me at all.  The teacher I went to today could be classified as insane, she was so hardcore.   Anytime we were lifting we were doing two things at once (i.e. squats and biceps) and when we weren’t using weights we were doing crazy intervals.  I love that at our gym each pump class is choreographed by the teacher so you always get something new and original. I also got in 30 minutes on the elliptical.

By the time I got home I was starving and had a salad with a hard-boiled egg, turkey, grapes and cottage cheese.  Blueberry bagel on the side and my lemonade from dinner last night.   (Leftover dressing from Cafe Rio hanging out behind my mixing bowl:)

We were about to go to a movie but then remembered that the PREFONTAINE CLASSIC was on and now that we are both running nerds we chose watching this over anything else.  This made me so excited to watch the Olympics in a few months!

About an hour after lunch I was hungry again and had a bowl of oatmeal which is my latest craving.  Now I am mad at that craving because it is 80 degrees in our house and the oatmeal made me overheat…time to go somewhere that has air conditioning.

But first……

I totally agree about the yogurt containers! I wish that all the time!

We need to start a petition or something!

I make my oatmeal on stove, that way I can pick all the things that go in it :) I had a banana before my run today. It was pretty great :) I dont think i could sprint anytime soon, I didnt start running until about a year ago. I did classical dancing from 8th grade through high school. Running was not encouraged, by my dance teachers. I did pilates, yoga and swimming to cross train though. Have you ever been to Oregon? I went to the same high school as Pre did.

That is interesting that you weren’t really supposed to run while dancing….I never did dance so I was wondering why they said this? YOU went to the same high school…that is so cool. I have only been to Medford once and it was so gorgeous! I really want to do the Eugene marathon someday!

Ha ha…I agree about yogurt containers and thank you for the Ryan Gosling pictures…I love it:)

I’ve never done a pump class, but I really want to try it!! I just started wanting to do some more strength training– what lbs weights does she suggest you guys use?? I loved those ryan gosling quotes, too funny!!

Reply

haha love those ryan gosling photos! and i also agree with you about the size of yogurt containers. I always end up just scooping it out and placing it in another bowl. such a waste!

I have been obsessed with weight training lately. I ran two 10Ks within 6 weeks so I’m kind of bored with my runs. I’ve noticed such a difference in my energy and of course the muscle tone forming, love it! I ate an eggwhite and spinach panini with hummus post workout and it was delicious, another new favorite of mine.

I eat oatmeal and use the packets in the microwave. I do that mainly because it’s a lot easier to do at work because I’m lazy in the mornings :)

Never ran in school and not sure I could be a sprinter, legs are too short ;) haha
I make my on the stove now, but I used to use the microwave brown sugar packets in University.
I had a couple dates before my run since it was early and only a 30 minute run.

Love my some Ryan Gosling!

I disliked running in my school days. The Ryan Gosling quotes Rock! I rarely eat before workouts since most start at 5 a.m. Make my oatmeal from a packet with low fat milk adding several walnuts, chia seeds and even a poached egg on top when real hungry like you,Lol!

Love these & damn he is good looking. I like steel cut oats with peanut butter ,maple syrup & vanilla soy milk.

Could not agree with you more! When you get a coffee, they ask if you want room for cream. Hellooo! I put toppings on my yogurt too, but I have to buy the big container and then separate it into small, single-serving containers with fruit or granola or whatever. Soooo not convenient when I’m in a rush in the mornings! Grr…

I started running in my mid-30’s and I would never even consider sprinting.
I cook my oatmeal in the microwave. I occasionally use the packets but only the Weight-loss version since it has less sugar, etc.
Preworkout meal – protein shake w/ 1/2 banana and oatmeal thrown in. That got me through an incredibly rough 45 minute walking session on the treadmill ;)

Reply

I didn’t run in school and I don’t think I would have been a very good sprinter; I am not really built for sprints.
I love oatmeal. I prefer to use the quick oat and do it in the microwave, but I don’t use the packets.
Funny that you mentioned oatmeal because that is what I always have before my workouts; with either some raisins or chia seeds
I love those Ryan Gosling posters. He is just….yummy :)

I was actually a sprinter in high school- loved it! I didn’t start doing distance until college, because it was an easy way to still compete in races & cheap way to stay active (w/out lots of equipment).

I cook my oatmeal on the stove- LOVE it!

I cook my oatmeal on the stove top but lately I have been using it to wash my face and it has cleared my skin up, so I love oatmeal ;)
haha I love that tumblr!

When I have time I make my oatmeal on the stove. Mostly it’s in the microwave because I have zero time in the morning. Oh, I never use the packets. Ewww!

Kara has good taste! :)

I love that tumbler! So funny! and I’ve got some great oatmeal recipes, you should try them out! I make mine on the stove, and I love adding egg whites for some extra protein!

Reply

My daily oatmeal is made with liquid egg whites and is microwaved. I buy a big jug of rolled oats and it lasts about 2 weeks. Yikes! Love the tumblr.
I am not a sprinter, but I will say I have crazy endurance and can exercise absolutely all day! Oh, and I can’t have food in my stomach within 2-4 hours of teaching aerobics or running. There was a girl in one of my classes this morning that ate pieces of a granola bar during our 10 second water breaks!! How?!?!

Reply

My husband and I watched the Prefontaine Classic as well, I could never be a sprinter. Way too fast! I microwave my oatmeal a lot because I hate cleaning the pot after making it on the stove. I used to eat the packets in college because it was all they had for oatmeal. I don’t know if it’s just the picture but your salad looks HUGE and delicious!

I’m hooked on oatmeal too. I make my oatmeal in the microwave. I can’t remember the last time I used instant oatmeal. Today was an off day. Tomorrow, I have a 10 mile long run and plan to eat a banana with a small amount of peanut butter before heading out.

I’m a teacher and we LOOOOVE the Ryan Gosling Hey Girl/Hey Teacher posts!! I love Group Power which is similar to Bodypump.

Reply

most important..did you get doughnuts?

Reply

I ran track in high school, but mainly just for fun. I am definitely not fast! I just love running :-)

I used to use the oatmeal packets until I finally tried it the old fashioned way – now I always make it on the stove!

Reply

Agreed on the yogurt! I usually buy the big tubs of yogurt so I use a bowl, but when I don’t, I can’t fit anything in there.
I like oats on the stove but I am SO lazy to wait for it so I haven’t had it in a while. Plus, I start sweating while eating it too! lol
I just died at those ryan gosling pics. I love him.

Reply

LOVE the yogurt plan. I have to slice my banana in parts because it wont all fit…

Reply

I used to use oatmeal packets but now I do quick oats with a wide variety of toppings (frozen raspberries, blueberries, pumpkin butter, peanut butter, nutella, choc mini chips). Hope you enjoy it!!!

Reply

I have gotten lazy and pretty much never cook my oatmeal anymore. Oatmeal it is! I love it mixed with yogurt and left in the fridge overnight.

Reply

So who’s the teacher? I need an awesome pump class!

Ryan is gorgeous…and now even more perfect :). I had oats with yogurt and protein powder before my last run and it worked wonders! My legs were on fire :)

Reply

I ran track in junior high and some of high school. I was a sprinter and a long and triple jumper. I never thought I could be a distance runner but now I am and I love it.
I make my quick oats in the microwave and my steel cut oats on the stove.
I did 11 miles today fueled by cookies, pasta salad, potato chips from the baby shower I had at my house today :)

Reply

I ran track in middle school and for a year in high school. I do not think I have EVER been in as good of shape as I was my freshman year of track. Hardcore.

I usually make oatmeal on the stove on my days off. Sometimes I make steel cut oats and package them for each day of work. :) Speaking of….I had oatmeal (stovetop) with crasins and almond milk before my workout today.

What a fun site, I love Ryan Gosling, such a dream boat. I hate that the yogurt containers are so small, it drives me bonkers.

Reply

I always carry a packet of instant oatmeal in my purse. It’s a quick, easy food to make at work, if I need it. I should probably just buy a box to leave in my desk at work…

How about cold oatmeal? I make this recipe a lot! http://fitnessista.com/2010/08/serious-cereal/

There was NO running in my middle school, high school, or college days. I am still in shock that I like running now.

I’m about to head off on my long run and I had coffee, a couple chunks of raw coconut (random but delicious) and 2 Strawberry Shotbloks. Obviously fueling is not my strong point. Espresso Love Gu is packed for the run.

Reply

our family completely missed out on getting any fast twitch muscle fibres – all of us! but we rock at longer running distances! (ie 10k and over!).
oatmeal in the micro!
pb from the jar before my run yesterday morning!
happy weekend, janae!

I saw Kara’s tweet- these are hilarious!

Stovetop oats are soo much better than microwaved oats! Unfortunately I travel for work and am stuck eating microwaved oats all week :(

One of my biggest regrets about high school is not doing cross country or track. I wish I knew how much I actually secretly liked running! I always dreaded “mile day” and “the pacer” in gym class, though, so go figure I didnt join…

Reply

I ran track in middle school, and wish I had done it in high school! But instead I focused on tennis. In college I began long distance running, and slowly but surely fell in love with it!

Reply

those Ryan Gosling images made my day! hahahaha. <3

110% agree about the yogurt containers. Drives me nuts because mine always overflow & I end up making a mess. Oops! Glad you can relate though ;)
I’ve been LOVING my bodypump class lately too..I’m thinking your pump class is pretty similar..?
Your salad & bagel look delicious (those carbs are SCREAMING my name ;) )- adding grapes to salad…must try….and I just bought grapes today. Yay!

Another vote for overnight oats (aka cold oatmeal). It’s yummy and solves the overheating problem! http://www.katheats.com/favorite-foods/overnightoats

I like using almond milk when I make them, it’s creamier to me. yum!

Those Gosling pix were the first things I looked at after my first half :)

3 things :
1. I put those same quotes on my blog!
2. Weight lifting is so addicting. Look up a pic of Tarasa Barnett. She is one of my idols.
3. Watching extreme makeover weightless now!

I ran track in High School. I ran the 4, 2, and 100s. It’s funny, too, because I always hated when we’d do our two mile warm-ups before practice. I thought it was SO FAR! Now, sprinting drives me crazy.

I usually make my oatmeal by boiling water in an electric kettle and then mix everything up.

Cannot stop laughing at these! They are so funny. Husband has massaged my feet AND listened to my mile splits, as I prattle on.

I didn’t start running until I was 19 (16 years ago this month!), and I didn’t run in college. I kind of ran junk miles. My dad was a track star in HS and college, so I feel like….maybe I would have had a chance? :)

When I have oatmeal, I nuke it.

Always 1/2 cup blueberries before I run!

Reply

I love the quick oats oatmeal. No packets for me. I always make in the microwave.

1/2 cup quick oats
1/2 cup 2% milk
1/2 cup water

1.5 minutes in the microwave. (eat w/yogurt. granola would be like a candy bonus)
