Addicted to the long run quote and my personal pizza streak.

My mom is going to be so proud:

———————————————–

Don’t tell Billy (I warned him that if he read today’s post that I would hide all of his favorite running socks) but the other day when I went to Costco and bought a pizza and told him that I got it for him….well, that was a total lie.  I bought it for me, I couldn’t resist the 2 inches of dough, covered in cheese and pepperoni.  Added bonus was that the pizza was 3 bucks off…$5.99!  You did read that correctly, 2.75 lbs of goodness.

Photo 2

In case you are keeping track, this is day #2 of my pizza streak.  I am just trying to fit in with all of you cool kids that are doing running streaks, pizza is all I got.

DSC 1975

Last night was one of those nights where you stay in your swimsuit and cover-up all day long.  Tell me that you do this too.

Photo 1

Yes, that is a chip in my left hand.  We all have those days that chips and pizza are our main source of calories right?  Oh and ice cream.  I added the personal touch of adding marshmallows to the s’mores ice cream.  By the way, is there anything better than eating ice cream straight from the carton?

DSC 1978

I am loving Billy’s summer semester schedule because it seems like he has way less homework than previous semesters.  This means that we were able to watch 3 White Collar episodes in a row last night.  I now know how to counterfeit money, pickpocket and break out of a jail cell….see mom, television really does make me smrter.  (I misspelled smarter as part of my joke)

—————————–

I had to share these two things from Runner’s World, March 2012.

Photo

Pretty much the best quote ever and it is always good to see that others run for the same reason you do!

PS is it normal to keep every single running magazine that you have ever gotten and then pretend like they are brand new, get all excited about it and re-read them?

—————————–

Do you use your hands to eat pizza or a fork?  Do you like pepperoni pizza?

-I use my hands and Billy uses a fork.  I didn’t used to like pepperoni but now I love it.

Have you been doing any food streaks?  What food and for how many days in a row?

Anyone else running races this weekend?  Anyone running the American Fork 1/2 Marathon with me this weekend?

Do you keep old magazines or toss them?

My biggest food streak right now is SMOOTHIES!!!!!! Its about 5 zillion degrees in DC right now, so I’m living off of smoothies.
Good luck in your Half this weekend!!!! Happy Thursday!!!!

Reply

I want to join in on your smoothies food streak, that sounds so so delicious!

Reply

I always use my hands always, and I also fold my slices in half. People think its weird. I learned it from my dad and he says it’s s New York thing which is where he’s from.

I always save old magazines! I keep my Runner’s Worlds to reference workouts and stretches and I keep my Women’s Health to do their ab/arm/butt, etc. workouts (which never actually happens because I’m lazy and just make things up as I go)

Have a fantastic day! I hope you and baby girl stay nice and cool

Reply

PHEBE, I absolutely love that you fold your slices in half…my kind of girl! I love keeping Women’s Health too. Thanks so much Phebe and hope you have an amazing day too!

Reply

My food streak has also been smoothies, it has been too hot to have anything else for breakfast. I also re-read my Runner’s Worlds. I always read them so fast when I first get them I have to read them again to absorb more information!

Reply

I am going to have to join in with you on this smoothie streak, that sounds perfect right now. LOVE that you said ‘absorb more information.’

Reply

Way to go Janae! Womens Running picked the right person to feature!!!

You should be an ice cream flavor creator;-) I am always on food streaks (usually they last 1-3 years) –I just kicked off a strawberry streak last week–8 days strong baby!

I used to keep old magazines for a certain article, but then I would re-read and couldnt’ remember which article it was I wanted to keep–so now I tear the articles out that I want to keep and put them in a folder.

Reply

Thank you so so much Becky!! Wanna start a ice cream flavor inventing business together? 8 days of strawberries sounds beyond delicious to me!

Reply

How cool that you are a blogger on the the run! Loved the interview :)

I’m on a serious watermelon streak right now. I crave it ALL the time. I think it’s the crazy heat we’ve been having.

I go both ways with pizza- it depends on my mood…sometimes I like the fork and knife!

Reply

Thank you so much Lish. Seriously, isn’t watermelon the BEST food ever in the summer? You just reminded me I need to go get another one:) Have a great day!

Reply

1. Loved the interview
2. I use a fork and knife at the beginning, then once I get to the crust I use my hands, obvvvv
3. I’ve been on a frozen fruit kick.. from grapes, to cantaloupe, and now CLEMENTINES! Ohh they are soo good!
4. Soo…. my husband and i have talked about having kids, and he’s worried about me running throughout the pregnancy… I always reassure him it’s the healthy thing to do, and that janae does it :)

Have a wonderfulll day!!

Reply

Thanks so much Jessie! FROZEN CLEMENTINES…okay, I have never thought about that but now I must try it. YES, it is totally healthy and it will keep you feeling so much better. Hope you are having a great Thursday!

Great interview – how fun!

I usually don’t use a fork for pizza. It’s just easier to use your hands.
I’m running a 5k with my family this weekend!
I keep old magazines way too long. They just sit there and collect dust, so i’ve been getting better about recycling them or giving them away. But I always worry that I’ll want to go back and reference something!

Reply

Thank you so much Heather! You are the best. A 5k with your fam…AWESOME!! That is so cool, good luck!

Reply

Loved reading your interview answers!

i’m not one to stay in my swimsuit–the top doesn’t bother me, but I feel like the bottoms aren’t super comfy for relaxing.

I definitely eat pizza with a fork!

My recent food streak is banana bread…I have been making a batch once a week for almost the past month. I just can’t stop–it’s so good when topped with chocolate chips and butter.

I keep magazines and need to get rid of some old ones…they are taking up too much room!

Reply

Thanks Laura!! Oh girl, I need to help you find some comfy bottoms ha:) BANANA bread sounds so good!

Reply

I can always count on you for an early morning post :) I could eat pizza everyday I love the stuff! And Costco just makes everything a little better, right?! I pass my running magazines onto my BFF!

Wanna join in on my pizza streak? That is so nice that you share your magazines…I need to be more like you:)

Congrats on the feature! Well deserved!

I have a huge pile of running magazines and often re-read them — so nope, you’re not the only one! As I continue to progress in my running, I find that some articles I overlooked earlier are now super important! Go figure :)

Thanks Megan and SO good to know I am not the only crazy running girl:)

New fan here – you are such an inspiration my dear!!

I am on a homemade granola bar kick – I can’t get enough. My husband on the other hand is totally sick of them!!

I’ll be back again!! :-)

HEY MACKENZIE! Thank you so much for commenting because it helped me to find YOUR BLOG. Um….all of your food is making me drool! Can’t wait to keep reading them and tell your husband that he is lucky you make stuff for him….all Billy gets is frozen pizza:)

Reply

I’m all about fresh fruit ALL the time, but peaches in particular right now.

I recycle/give away all of my old magazine except for running magazines–those are in a stack right next to my legal textbooks (so that i always have fun reading material available!)

Running my first half marathon this Sunday! Can’t wait!

Reply

Good luck! You’re going to do great!

Reply

AHHHH GOOD LUCK NICOLE!! You are going to rock your 1/2 and I want to hear ever detail!

Billy, Janae–thanks for the support! you guys rock!!

Reply

That quote about running nailed it…couldn’t have phrased it better even if I tried! I eat my pizzas with a fork & knife…what can I say: I’m classy like that ;)!

Reply

Isn’t it the best?!? Girl, you are classy!

Reply

We had pizza last night too! I eat mine with a fork until it’s cool enough to not burn my entire mouth off.

Reply

HAHAHA I should learn from you because I continually burn my mouth off and never learn from my mistakes!

Reply

Usually hands! Not a huge pepperoni fan.
Yes I am running a race this weekend, finally! Me and my Mom are doing a 10km Starbucks Run for Women on Saturday, I am very excited! She has been teaining hard :)
I keep most of them.

Reply

I keep all my RW and Shapes.

I eat mine with my hands. We always order half cheese and half pepperoni because I love both – and then have a slice of each.

Reply

You are a superstar!!:) that is very cool to be featured in that mag
My food streak, not on purpose, would be eggs. And this particular bran cereal that I have for breakfast every single morning. just doesn’t get old.
I love that quote, and it kind of perfectly describes the feeling after doing a long run.
No races coming up for me! Have fun at your half his weekend.
Enjoy your pool days!!!

Reply

Congrats on the feature! I don’t know if I could ever get tired of pizza.

Reply

yay congrats! how awesome!
and i prefer to eat my pizza with a fork until i get toward the crust then i pick it up!

Reply

i love costco’s take & bake pizzas! i usually always eat my pizza with my hands unless it’s super messy, then i’ll use a fork.
i was planning to run the AF half this weekend… it was going to be my first half marathon race ever! i’m bummed i had to stop about half way through my training. oh well, there’s always time for more races! good luck to you! i’m sure it’ll be a beautiful race!

Reply

I eat pizza with my hands! My food streak is peanut butter, PB&Co White Chocolate Wonderful to be exact. I eat it every single day, and this has been going on for over 1 year, haha! I’m running a 5K this Saturday. I’m aiming for a PR, hoping to get just over 23 minutes! The only magazines I keep are running magazines. I somehow can’t find the heart to toss them!

Congrats on the feature!!!!!!! Good luck on the half!

Reply

Congratulations on the feature! that is so much fun!!
and I love that quote at the end from Runners World!

And yes I feel like I am always on a food streak.. like I get addicted to one thing and then change to another.

And I totally eat my pizza with my hands and folded :)

Reply

Congrats on your feature! That’s pretty cool!

Omg I have that quote taped to my wall in my workout room! I absolutely love that quote :). Too funny that u mentioned it!

I too have kept all my running magazines over the years. I also re read them.
No race for me this weekend. I’ve been yearning for one though so I might sign up for one next month. Good luck on your half!

Reply

I am going to copy you and tape it up in my workout room too! YES, sign up for a race for next month and I better hear all about it.

Reply

I’m not sure which is better, a pizza streak or a running streak! I think they go hand in hand. And I am dreading the day I have to carry all of my magazines down the 5,000 stairs to the dumpster. :(

Reply

Valid point…maybe I should do both at the same time!

Reply

Totally use my hands with pizza, unless it’s way to hot to hold and I can’t wait for it to cool off haha. Let’s just say that oatmeal is a food streak for me- I eat it basically every morning for breakfast! I keep old magazines for a while and then when the stack gets to large and I have no where to put them I get rid of them. Hope you have a great day love!

Reply

Im running the Rock n Roll Seattle this weekend, we also had costco pizza last night :)

Reply

YOU ARE?!?! That is so so exciting. I can’t wait to hear all about it and Costco pizza is known to be good luck food:)

Reply

That is so exciting! I can’t wait to read your interview!!!! :)
I’m on a spinach smoothie streak… I don’t even know how many days in a row. A million?

Reply

costco pizza is so darn good. i like eating it with my HANDS! ;) Kevins fave is pepperoni pizza, i’m ok with it but i’d much prefer buffalo chicken or a ton of veggies.

i loved your interview, so cute!!

Reply

To continue your pizza streak, in a different way, you HAVE to make pizza grilled cheese!!!

You need all the necessary ingredients to make your grilled cheese, so bread, cheese (any kind… I like provolone, lots of it) and butter… then before putting your second piece of bread on top, add your favorite toppings (pepperoni, sausage/ hamburger, peppers, etc.) to the cheese then top with bread and cook. Dip in warm marinera sauce!

It’s pretty much the bomb. It’s only 8:47am here and I already want one. :)

Reply

I <3 that quote! I cut it out of the magazine and have it hanging above my training schedule!

Reply

I run to eat too! Makes like so much more enjoyable :) my husband & mine favorite pizza place is in Springdale, AR! Joe’s Italian Bistro- makes the best Pepperoni Pizza! ( even though we live in Tontitown aka little Italy ….) Joe’s makes better pizza! Wish u could try it!

Reply

Congrats on your award! I wear my swim coverup all day along too. Sometimes all weekend long!

Reply

Pizza with a fork? Nooooo. Stuff it in with bare hands all the way!

Reply

I’m loving smoothies right now! I’m doing the Hobbler Half in two weeks! It’ll be my first half in 4 years:) I’m really excited! Good luck in AF on Saturday!

Reply

I have a ton of old Runners World magazines too. So much good advice! I can’t toss them!
I eat pizza both ways, I think it depends where I am and my mood.
Good luck in your half!!! :)

Reply

Janae! Quick question for you: I’m at the bookstore and training for a marathon, I know you mentioned in earlier posts but what’s your favorite training/running book?

Reply

AHHH MELISSA…I am so so sorry that it took me forever to get back to you! Did you end up getting a running book. I have a few favorites:

Run Less, Run Faster
Mind Gym
Mile Markers
Kara Goucher’s Running for Women
Runner’s World Big Book of Marathon and Half-Marathon training.

Reply

Ahh yay I bought Kara Goucher’s Running for Women!!!

Reply

I usually use a fork for the tip of the pizza and then half way use my hands, unless its really thin then fork the whole way. My husband always tease me :) Saw you were the featured blogger over there and I got excited!

Reply

I have a stack of Cosmos about a mile high. I never re-read them though (I should!). Totally jealous of your pizza right now!

Reply

Congrats on the write-up!
I just wanted to say that I always recognize every single food that you show because I also do all of my grocery shopping at cost-co.
My mother in law always says that “if they don’t have it at cost-co — you don’t need it” ;)

Reply

I love, love, love pizza. My fave is pepperoni, jalepeno, and pineapple. It’s just the perfect combination of sweet and spicy. I think I could eat it every day/night but then I would gain 8 billion pounds…so I don’t. I’m a hands-eater unless it is thin crust piled high with toppings. Then I use a fork.

Reply

I have my running mags on my bookshelf in the living room and re-read them often. Totally normal!! :) My hubby would say otherwise.

Reply

I have my runner’s worlds in little magazine bins in chronological order and re-read them allllll the time! Totally normal.

Reply

My food streak right now is spinach smoothies! SO good.

I like pizza-but no to pepperoni. Yuck!

Reply

Congrats Janae! :)

Reply

What?? Costco Take and Bake pizzas are only $5.99 right now? I’m going to Costco after work….

Reply

I eat pizza with my hands — the way it should always be eaten!

Reply

I mostly use my hands to get pizza but fork for chicken wings. Figure that one out. heehee
I keep magazines for way to long. I have started giving my runners world to my neighbor when I’m done. She is 16 and likes to run.
We live in our swimsuits here in the summer. In fact my kids might even sleep in them sometimes. ;-)

Reply

Oh
man
I
looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooved
that quote from Kristen Armstrong.

MY FAV!

Reply

Loved the interview!!!

I’m not running the AF canyon half this weekend because by the time I felt motivated enough to register the half was sold out. :( I was super bummed. However, my work is one of the sponsers and they were asking for volunteers. I jumped right away at the oppurtunity. So, I will be working at an aid station! I have always been the one running so this will be a different experience but I am excited to hand out water cups and I WILL jump up and down cheering other runners on!!!!

Good Luck this weekend on the race…maybe I will see you run by my station!

Reply

That’s the best quote ever! That’s pretty much articulating exactly how I feel and the answer I should give to those who ask, “How/Why do you run for so long?” Thanks, Janae!

Reply

Congrats on the article, Janae!! That is awesome!! :)

I’m sure I’ll be having a few pizza and ice cream days this weekend … my little nieces are in town, so that always means an excuse for junk food!

Reply

It depends for me, if there are tons of toppings and it’s thicker, I use a fork. Or if I’m alone I just eat it with my hands. lol

Reply

Great article, Janae. Very cool! Now I’m craving me some pizza for lunch, that I will be eating with my hands.

Love the long run quote, so true!

Reply

I love pepperoni pizza! I always use a fork to eat my pizza, unless it’s cut into squares. I just had a big pizza debate with my brother as to whether or not pizza taste better when it’s cut into squares or triangles. Squares won by 2 votes in our household.

Reply

I loved the interview!! Congrats :)
& I LOVE your belly!!! (yes, I totally hang around in my bathing suit/ cover up all day…doesn’t get much better, especially when I’m feeling lazy)
How I eat pizza: I like to fold it in half & then eat it.

Reply

Congrats on the feature!! I LOVE pizza! I eat it with my hands unless it is too messy:) and pepperoni is my favorite. I am running the AF Canyon half this weekend. It is my first half…hopefully I’ll finish! I’m so nervous:) I love reading your blog!

Reply

Amy!!! You are going to do absolutely amazing! I sure hope I get to see you there!

Congrats that is so awesome!

How exciting you were interviewed!! You are even more famous now!
I lovve pizza! Could eat it every.single.day!!

Reply

I fold my pizze in half to eat it too, totally a NY thing! I’ve been reading some of your older posts and just want to say thanks for being such a healthy role model with food!! I’m a 7x marathoner, recovering from an ED and seeing what you eat and how well you run has helped me sooo much so I just wanted to say thank you!

Reply

ERIN!! Thank you so so much for commenting. I love that you fold your pizza in half:) NY pizza really is the best thing in the world…I miss it dearly. Please keep in touch and let me know how you are doing. PS 7 MARATHONS…HOLY COW!

Reply

NY pizza is the best!! I will keep commenting, I love your blog :) I am in awe of your running!

Reply

I keep all of my Runner’s World Magazines and re-read them. They never get old.

Reply

Pizza with hands- all the way!

My latest food streak has been bananas. I used to absolutely hate them but can’t seem to get enough these days .

I usually keep my old magazines. I figure the articles are always of some use and eventually I will forget what is in them and the time will come to read them again (at least that is what I tell my BF when he is trying to throw them away!)

Reply

We won’t even get started on the dark chocolate streak I’ve been on lately…but I don’t mind confessing my streak of smoothies! I love them in the summer!

I eat pizza with my hands 99% of the time, and I do like pepperonis but not a ton of them. If there’s too many I’ll pick them off and give them to Daniel.

Daniel has broken me of my bad habit of keeping old magazines (especially cooking ones). No more clutter!

Reply

Do you use your hands to eat pizza or a fork? I use a fork. Mainly because I hate taking a bite of pizza and having half the toppings slide off with it.

Do you like pepperoni pizza? Nope, only veggie for me. Preferably with a creamy garlic sauce instead of tomato sauce.

Have you been doing any food streaks? What food and for how many days in a row? I have a slice of nuts and seeds bread toasted with almond butter and banana slices almost everyday for the last year.

Do you keep old magazines or toss them? I donate them to the library. It has a table for free books and magazines you can donate to or take from.

Reply

And a BIG congrats on the article! So cool!!

And I love that quote! That is totally the reason that I run!

Reply

When I was pregnant I ate pizza all.the.time. (My son loves pizza btw). I only eat it with a fork if it really hot and I am too impatient to let it cool down!

Reply

What a perfect quote! I had my first “long” (7 miles = long for me :) ) run this weekend and it was the first time I truly realized why people (including myself) love running. That quote explains it perfectly

Reply

i love white collar! it is our new favorite!

Reply

Yum that ice cream looks delicious – I’ve been addicted to Starbucks Hot Chocolate ice cream lately, it’s SO good. Have you tried it?

Reply

Is there another way to eat ice cream?

I re-read books, sometimes over and over so why not re-read your magazines? I keep scrapbook magazines, used to keep Ensign – it’s online now. Mostly they get tossed after I pull articles/pictures out of them. My shelves have way too many books on them to have magazines too.

I don’t believe I have food streaks. . . oh, um, salad actually. For about two weeks I fixed the same kind of salad. Only stopped until I could get to the store again. Romaine, shredded carrots, grape tomatoes, sometimes Napa cabbage or red cabbage &/or cucumbers, always Hidden Valley Ranch.

okay, great. now I’m hungry ;)

Pizza at Costco must be folded, the slices are so big. Usually don’t fold if they’re smaller slices and I eat with a fork once in a while.

Love the quote. Opened the articles but haven’t read it yet. Still excited for you!

As for your Mom. Good Luck but all her friends are where she is, especially if she’s involved in clubs and stuff. Besides, you’re moving for school, maybe she’ll consider moving after you’ve settled somewhere?
