Carb loading and a RACE GIVEAWAY!! [CLOSED]

All of this weight lifting is sure giving me a muscular (aka creepy looking) neck.

Race expos are my absolute favorite especially when you don’t have to wait in lines, everything is organized and you get to drink 6 different smoothie samples like we did yesterday.

We met my uncle at the expo, he is also running the 1/2 marathon today and then we are all going to Cafe Rio together after. I get emotional just thinking about how great it is that my family loves running and eating just as much as I do.

Billy and I really tried hard to think outside the box and get something different than our usual pre-race meal but we just couldn’t turn down a $1.99, 2 lb and cheese filled slice (I don’t think it should be classified as a slice if it is bigger than the plate) of pizza.

Lately Billy has been getting ice cream dipped bars at Costco and every time I kick myself for not liking chocolate because it looks so good. Last night I decided to go for it and test out the waters. I loved it. Every bite. Chocolate may make a comeback into my life as long as there is plenty of ice cream to eat with it.

PS I am and always have been strongly against nuts and dessert being combined. Who does that?

No nuts!! I am anti-nuts in things like chocolate chip cookies or brownies!

I am going to have to try those ice cream bars at Costco. How close are you to Costco? Ours isn’t too far away, but it is soooo crowded.

I love nuts…esp with sweet things

(I am not entering the giveaway, it sounds like fun, too bad it isn’t closer)

For such a dessert connoisseur, I am disappointed Janae…nuts just take desserts to a whole new level :)

Reply

I would totally go for the ice cream bar with the nuts! I love crunch in my desserts!

No nuts for me on my dessert, I’m a chocolate purist :) haha.

I usually eat whole wheat pasta with marinara sauce the night before a race, with a slice of wheat bread and butter. Its what I ate for my first race and its been working, so I’m afraid to try anything else!

Earliest I woke up for a race was 4:30 for the NYC Half.

Good luck! I’m sure you guys will have a blast!

Pre-race, I like either veggie pizza or pasta with a light (key is LIGHT) cream sauce and veggies.

I woke up at 2:30am for my last marathon b/c it was a 2 hour drive away and I didn’t want to waste $150 on the hotel.

I used to pick nuts off everything but now I love them!!

I’m always switching up my pre-race meals but pizza is definitely one of my favourites!!

I think 4:30 is the earliest I have woken up for a race! It’s not so bad because I wake up at that time every day to go to the gym anyway!

Have fun today! xo

I usually do not like nuts in my dessert unless it is the in the form of peanut butter.
I switch it up, but many times it was pasta of some kind.
For the Disneyland Half, we woke up at 3:30am, had to be in the corals for 4:30am.

Can’t wait to know how the race goes, I am crossing my fingers & toes for a PR for Billy!! I know he can do it!!!
I love your pizza dates…I think I need to convince Craig we need to do that! Sounds quite delicious…even at 9am!! haha! :)
Thinking of you! XO

I was standing in line at Sams (like Costco) yesterday to buy a crazy large diet lemonade, and I wanted to buy the ice cream cup so badly! I decided against it, but I may have to get one next time!

Nuts in some desserts are okay, but not always. :)

Reply

I pick the nuts out of desserts and off the outside of ice creams. They defile ice cream!

Reply

Wow 3:45 is so early!!

I woke up at 4:30 for the OC marathon, which started at 5:30am..and I thought THAT was bad!

Reply

Nut are ok by me if they aren’t COVERING the desert.. I def live sweet and salty for sure! A pre-race, or long run dinner for me is some type of pasta. Seems to work just fine!

Reply

Nuts in desert, absolutely!

Pizza is my go to meal when I need to eat something carby before a big day or whatever, we make it at home though.

245am for the Disney World Princess Half – had to be in line for buses by 330am. YIKES!

That pizza and ice cream look sooooo good! I’m sorry that the only thing I ever say when I comment is “That _______ (fill in the blank with food you posted) looks soooo good!” haha I’m sometimes nutty, but sometimes not (dessert wise and personality wise) When I was little, I hated that they put nuts on those little debbie brownies, though! I thought about setting the nut part of the little debbie factory on fire. But my mom told me I needed to just go play outside instead. :) We woke up at 5 this morning to get in 5 miles before the heat. That’s been my earliest!

Nathan says hi!

The earliest for me would be 6am (nothing insane)…which was today for my 2nd 5K! Ran it in 30:41 :)

Can’t wait to hear the results of the race- I will be stalking Twitter this AM! Race Expos are one of my favorite things also :)

You are doing so great lifting weights and getting strong- hopefully that means everything will go well for you.

Reply

Nuts on ice cream yes! Nuts in brownies and cookies, no thank you.

Last weekend I had to wakeup at 3:50 for my half marathon and that was crazy early for me.

Reply

I don’t mind nuts in my desserts. I’m not a big fan of chocolate chips, especially in cookies and ice cream. When I make chocolate chip cookies, I make half with chocolate chips and half without. The only time I don’t mind chocolate chips (mini) is in a chocolate cake. Yum.

No nuts for me…I do NOT like nuts!

Usually the night before a race I eat Subway! Lot of carbs! I used to eat some kind of pasta but I feel like the Subway works better for me…OR it’s all in my head lol!

And the earliest I’ve ever woken up for a race is 3AM for the Disney Princess Half! And believe me….Disney workers are just as energetic at 3AM as they are at normal waking hours!!!

it was so fun to meet you at the expo yesterday! You are one cute little pregnant lady! if you ever want to have a dirty dash giveaway, let me know…i could hook you up! :)

I LOVE the stage concept of Tour de Run! It is like running a relay, where you run multiple times over a 24 hour period, but nobody has to keep running constantly, and maybe you can get some sleep during the night :)

by the way, I liked their facebook page, I am Christine Hellewell Jensen on FB

Favorite thing would be the 5 miler because I have never raced that distance before! :)

Nuts = good, dessert = good, nuts in dessert = my own personal dessert nightmare. SO GROSS!

Reply

I liked the race on facebook, it looks like so much fun! I love that its different from other events.

Reply

I like the idea of three stages. This race looks really fun!

Reply

I have to go with Billy’s ice cream.. it looks so good! I think the earliest I’ve gotten up was 4am.

Good luck today! :)

hmmm, i just tried pizza for a pre-race meal last weekend and it didn’t sit so well. i think plain ole pasta might be it for me! or, sushi. random, but i seem to do really well with it!

We always say no to nuts. My daughter is allergic to nuts so we avoid them like the plague except for last Saturday when she accidentally at them in a cookie at a friends house. That was a fun afternoon in the ER!

I also like the idea of 3 different stages. Each one would be a fun and different challenge!

Reply

My night before the race meal is always gnocchi & a Guiness! Straight carbs )

3:45 wake up! Yikes! And you thought my 4am wake up for the Brooklyn 1/2 was bad! haha.

nuts in dessert = ok
nuts in ice cream = no way

My night before the race meal is usually some sort of pasta.

Brooklyn 1/2 4am has been the earliest race wake up so far!

I just liked them on facebook. Normally I wouldn’t be able to enter this giveaay since I live in Texas, but I am going to be visiting Utah during this race, so that would be awesome if I won! My favorite thing about this race is that it’s completely new and different from any other race I have done.

I woke up at 3:20 this morning! it was such a thrill getting ready for the race!and im a total nut lover when it comes to treats… we went to CPK last night and I ate almost an entire plate of delicious pasta, had some for lunch after the race, love those left overs! It may just be a race tradition!

Reply

Mindee congrats on your first half marathon! You are absolutely incredible! I am so happy you are going to do timpanogos half!!!

Reply

Just liked them on Facebook. This race is my type of race, I tend to get bored if I run over 7 miles at a time.

Reply

I like the yellow jersey.

Reply

Love the whole idea behind this race! And the fact that one leg is a 5 miler…I would love an “official” time on that distance. Is that weird?

No nuts for sure. Always Digiorno or Freschetta pizza the night before a race. And I think I got up at 330 for St. George. Definitely not my preferred wake up time, but definitely worth it! :)

Reply

I love that they offer the 5 mile distance. This race sounds super fun!

Reply

I was already a fan of Tour de Run on FB :) I really like their 5 mile distance because it mixes things up a bit compared to other races. It’s unique.

I liked the Tour de Run on facebook. What I like about the race is its location. It should be a pretty run :) Thanks!

I love that it’s different from everything else.
