The next treadmill I want, sugar pretzels and bananas

I may have casually thrown out the idea that soft pretzels sounded incredibly good (okay, I looked Billy in the eyes and told him I would cry if I didn’t have a pretzel) last night and look what happened.

DSC 0665

Out of the whole batch we only made two salted ones and the rest were cinnamon sugar.  Billy used THIS RECIPE from The Food Network.  He mixed them, rolled them out, shaped them, boiled them and baked them.  Pure perfection.

DSC 0668

We had one late last night while watching the Lakers game, I had milk and he had OJ.  I am convinced that these pretzels are what made Billy wake me up in the middle of the night asking what was wrong.  Nothing was wrong but I guess my laughing in my sleep sounded like I was crying.  I had the FUNNIEST dream of my life last night and once he woke me up I couldn’t stop laughing for the next 5 minutes.

I would tell you what it was about but I think I am the only one that would think it was funny.  I will be eating cinnamon sugar pretzels before bed from now on if I get to have funny dreams like the one I had last night.

———————————-

Fun Fact:  This is my favorite phase to eat a banana.  I LOVE it when there are little (actually, kind of a lot) brown spots.  I can’t stand eating a super ripe/green one.  Banana will be demolished in 5, 4, 3, 2,1….

Turns out today’s post is another tangent post because there are a lot of random things I have been thinking about today so just roll with it:)

I found the next thing I want for my home gym, this underwater treadmill, I guess I need a pool too;)  How cool is that?!?!  It would allow me to run as many miles as my little heart desires without getting injured or if my foot goes lame sauce on me again I could just jump on this baby to get my endorphins.   Now I just need to find a waterproof laptop so I can watch Make It or Break it at the same time and I will be set.

I saw this in Runner’s World and thought it was pretty funny:

Screen Shot 2012 05 01 at 1 28 30 PM

Have you ever ran with someone for an ENTIRE RACE?  Have you ever planned on running with someone but didn’t actually end up staying with them?  Do you think you would like running an entire race with someone?

Ripe banana, yellow banana or brown banana?

Do you remember your dreams?  What was your last dream about?

Ever used an Underwater Treadmill? Ever tried water running?

I ran the whole Country Music 1/2 Marathon with my rommate! We trained together since August of last year so we wanted to cross the finish line together since it was our first half. It was fun! Next race I am definitely going for a PR, though!

Reply

Just read your comment that you ran the half – I ran the full! I thought it was miserable:) It was so hot. I hope you had a good race for your first half though!

I love the bananas that have some brown spots! Ok, this will sound nuts but the last dream I had I thought that we were being terror attacked, and when I woke up a life saver helicopter was flying over my apartment and I was freaking out so bad I had to grab my phone and check CNN…it was creppy! I have woke myself up from laughing in my sleep though haha I havent tried water running but it sounds pretty cool!

I love the runner’s world running pick up line! I might just print it out!
Green bananas! I hate dreaming! They are always bad :(
And never tried underwater running but I love swimming so I’m sure I’d love it!

I sometimes remember my dreams… the last one I kind of remember involved my co-worker being a jerk. I woke up mad at him! (Do you remember that Friends episode where Phoebe gets mad at Ross?) I went to work and told him he was a dream-jerk. He started laughing and said that I’m not the first person to tell him that… so there’s that.

Also, brown bananas.

Reply

Brown bananas, totally! I can’t stand the ripe ones.

Almost done with Mile Markers, love it!

Reply

I’m definitely a super ripe type girl and I love pretzels. They look so yummy!

Hahaha that bottom picture is the best. I’ve never ran a race with anyone, I get too stressed out worrying about myself, I’d be a wreck worrying about someone else too!

Reply

Yum green bananas! I won’t eat a banana that has any spots on it.

I ran with a group of people for a Halloween 10k. We were the spice girls. It was so much fun!

Reply

No bananas for me…I’m mildly allergic. But those pretzels look a-mazing. I think I found my next baking project.

I’ve never used an underwater treadmill, but that would be awesome. You wouldn’t have to worry about sweating either! I have done a very small amount of water running (with the belt thingys) at xc camp in high school and one day for practice in college when I was nursing an injury. I don’t really know what I’m doing and I really didn’t get much of a workout out of it.

And speaking of Make It or Break It, I was a little disappointed in this weeks episode–only like one scene of gymnastics.

Reply

The only way I can eat bananas is if they DON’T have any brown specks! I end up with a lot for baking and smoothies! My husband and I ran our first two marathons together, and they were so fun!

Reply

I like banana’s right at the stage you do! But then again I rarely ever eat them plain they always have to have some pb/cinnamon/yogurt etc etc.

I still get excited when I see super ripe bananas lying around- banana bread and smoothies galore!!

Reply

so i have had plans to run entire races with people then it never works out. well…until this past weekend when i ran with my bro in his first half! it was awesome! but not sure i could run with someone the entire time all the time!

i cringed at your banana! haha! im a just barely turned yellow girl ;)

also. provo this weekend. lets be friends waiting up at the start line!?! i miss you!

Reply

I love homemade pretzels and I’m lucky because my boyfriend loves making them :)

Reply

ahhh. sorry i am super behind and just caught up on older posts and saw about your ankle! are you still planning on running this weekend? i hope you are doing okay! regardless of whether you will be at the race..we must get together soon! :)

Reply

HAHA that pic of the runners is hilarious.

Those pretzels look amazing! I am going to have to get that recipe–and make my husband make them for me :)

And YES to the underwater treadmill and laptop. I am game–I’ll come join you!

Reply

I really wish I could use the underwater treadmill! That exact treadmill that is in the video is actually in the gym I work out at but Alberto Salazar only lets his elite athletes use it:( I wish they had some for us regular old people to use too! Sometimes we do water running for cross training and see the elite athletes using it and I am jealous! Wouldn’t it be amazing to have access to that thing? Especially since you and me have been injured in the past!

PS I want to make those pretzels!

I ran the slc half with my SIL last minute. It was fun, but her pace was a little slower than mine which led to guilt of whether or not I should speed up or stay with her. It ended up okay, I kicked at mile 10 and she hung back and was so nice about it. If i could run as many half marathons as I wanted I probably would have finished with her because it was so easy going and enjoyable, but as the wife of a college student I only get so many a year so I gotta make em count!

Reply

That runner’s world comment is very funny:) I’ve never run an entire race with someone, nor would I want to. when I race, I want to just run it. even if I’m not actually racing it, I don’t like stressing about another person and if they are ‘ok’ during the run.
I like bananas with no spots. I don’t like them when they start getting any brown on them. I actually don’t really like bananas a whole lot – I like cold fruit. so, a banana with no spots in the fridge would be perfect:)
and those pretzels look amazing!!! can you send me some please;)
Hope you are feeling great! Have a good night:)

I actualy have a ton of dreams about marathons. Usually I am trying to finish but I am lost. The route follows a maze, often actually going into buildings, up and down fire escapes, through the windows and then back out the front of a building. (which would be cool, right, but of course, in the dream I am frantic.) I’ve lost the rest of the crowd, possibly never to find them again, and the whole idea that months and months of training are lost, all for naught, pooof! Out the door.

Yes, I guess it’s a real fear come true.

Reply

Imagining the scenario of you laughing hard for 5 minutes after being woken up is the funniest thing I come across this week! What was Billy’s reaction?

The pretzels looks so good!! Mail some over to NZ please ;)

They actually have one at my physical therapists office over by UVRMC. I have run on it twice and am going again on Friday. The biggest bummer is that I have to spend $25 each time for my copay, so I’m limited. It is awesome though! I am currently training for my first marathon (Utah Valley) and also have a stress fracture on my left tibia. Boo. Anyhow, it is almost healed. The water treadmill takes away nearly ALL impact and allows me to really focus on my form. It’s kindof like running in slow motion. You’d like it a lot!

Reply

Love that photo! haha. I have only ditched my hubby in a race once and he promised me it was okay… We’ve ran a few other races together. I will say I do prefer to run solo in races. But when they are for fun a running buddy is okay.
I used to only like my bananas when the were still a tad green but now I like them about 2 days after the green disappears… it is quite the science to track this ;)
I always remember my dreams! The last one was more of a nightmare so I won’t share!
I haven’t! But it sounds cool!

Those soft pretzels look so good! I’ll have to try making them very soon! My husband signed us both up for the Portland Half Marathon as a Christmas gift to me (he is not a runner), so I will run with him the entire time since he’s willing to put so much work into training he doesn’t normally do. When I ran the Portland Marathon my friend and I (that I had trained for it with) ran the entire thing together until mile 23. Running with someone is part of the fun of it!

Reply

Oh my gosh I love that RW pic! Too funny.

Soft pretzels rock my socks off. Now I want one, right now. Is it normal to have food cravings every hour when you’re not pregnant? Hope so…

Reply

between ripe and yellow. and I need a normal treadmill first, haha then I’ll get a pool one!

Reply

The other night I had a dream that I was Neil Patrick Harris and that I stole cadavers to practice my nursing skills on. Can you tell that before bed I watched How I met your Mother after spending an entire day cramming for my Medical-Surgical final?? Haha!

Reply

Omg I have been craving soft pretzels for weeks but didn’t want to make a whole batch and eat them all :) I think tonight may be the night if I get my work done. Yours looked delicious!

Reply

Brown bananas! And now I want pretzels…

I have done a LOT of water running because of the pelvic fracture, but my dog – my dog has actually gotten to run on an underwater treadmill! He’s had two TPLO surgeries on his knees for torn ACLs and Meniscus-es. (The TPLO surgery essentially was breaking his knees, taking them apart, and putting them back together with plates. Poor thing!) For weeks we had to drop him off at the vet’s office in the morning 2-3x a week, and then twice a day they’d put him on the treadmill, and we’d pick him up at night. I was jealous of the running (but not of his poor knees).

Reply

Those pretzels are seriously impressive!

My husband doesn’t run. He has tried but just doesn’t see the point. I’m still hoping to change his mind one day :)

Reply

I’m training for a marathon right now with a friend and we are planning to run together for the race. I hope it goes well… I could see myself getting tired and crying or something and that would probably freak her out!

Reply

My husband and I ran our first full marathon together all the way. Since it was our first long distance race ever(we had never done a 10k race before), he insisted that we hold hands and cross the finish line together :D :D

And I hate bananas with spots. They have to be pretty and spotless!

Reply

I ran a 5K with my sister once but she was in the zone and barely talked to me so it was sort of like running alone anyway. Probably better that way, I need to concentrate!

I like the ripe bananas, it freaks me out when there’s a single spot of mushy when I peel the banana.

Reply

I like training with people, but when it comes to race day, its every man (and woman) for himself (herself). I don’t want to hold someone back if it is not my day, and if I’m feeling good I’m just gonna go. So I love that RW pic!

Reply

I ran my first 3 races this year with my husband, and he stayed with me the entire time. Then I ran this past weekend in Nashville with my friend Ali. At one point, she started cramping and told me to go on without her, but I stayed with her. It meant I didn’t get to PR, but it’s OK. I wanted to finish with her. :) It’s not like I was trying to get 1st place or anything!

Reply

Whoa ok I just ate a delish pretzel baguette for dinner from whole foods. I even blogged about it today. And I love bananas with brown on them. The greens ones no way!

Same brain waves here!

Reply

I’ll eat bananas in any form or color as long as they haven’t gone rotten! Love them any way.

And I just made soft pretzels Monday because I was craving them so bad. I made them a little savory and passed them off as dinner, but now I’m really craving a cinnamon sugar pretzel!

Reply

I sooooo want to run on an underwater treadmill!

Reply

Those pretzels look profession! Nice job.
I prefer running by myself and listening to music. I’ve ran a 4 miler with someone, but not talking the entire time.

Reply

Now I really want to hear about your dream!!! Ha

Reply

I’m totally with you on the bananas!

I ran a whole race with my best friend, but it was only a 5k. It was her first race, so it was fun to be with her and motivate her.

Reply

Ha! I love that runner’s world quote/picture. Too funny.

I have never run a race with anyone. I’m much more of a solo runner and definitely a solo racer.

I hope your foot/ankle feels better. Any time I get pain/injury from running it is always my left foot/ankle. So aggravating.

Your pretzels look delish :)

Reply

brown bananas! it’s great because people always end up giving them to me at work/school because not many people like them at that stage!

Reply

I know that I’ve talked about my crazy dreams before, but they are insanely ridiculous. I remember most of my dreams, but usually not the entire thing. Funny dreams are the best!

We have a place here that only offers aqua therapy, and I did some interning there in college. They have underwater treadmills, weights, bikes, etc. It’s a really cool option for physical therapy!

Reply

I love hearing other people/you share their love of browning bananas! Ahhh-mazing!! There’s a reason they say to use them when baking banana bread, because some brown makes it ten times better:) Mmmm I’m on my way to get one now. I used to think that running with someone would be ideal, but I think there is something to be said of just running your own pace and thinking about each step that hits the pavement, counting your breaths and just being in the moment. Running with a partner feels forced to me.

Reply

I run with a partner probably half of the time. I like running with someone, but I like my alone time, too.

That banana looks gross! I’m glad you like them because someone has to eat them at that stage. :c) I’m a green banana girl.

Reply

Lol I found that picture too and posted it on a friend’s wall.
I’ve raced an entire race bar the last 200m with a friend. I figure she’d come that far, and I wanted my pb…

I like my bananas just the same, but now I want to make pretzels…

And I so want an underwater treadmill. Might actually make me run…. ;)

Reply

Omg homemade pretzels, those look so good!!!

Reply

I like all my fruit extra ripe but bananas are a must. Other people call them rotten. I call them perfection.

Reply

Those pretzels looks delicious! I ran a 5k with a friend a couple months after I had my daughter. I had not trained for it so running with a friend made it more bearable. She was nice enough to talk me through the race while I focused on breathing.

Reply

Umm! Delish on the pretzel front! Already bookmarked that recipe! Thanks for sharing!!

Reply

Your pretzels look yummy! I’ve been reluctant to make them in the past bc I can’t believe that they would actually turn out like they’re supposed to. I have a bad track record with baked goods :( But, these inspire me to try :) Wish me luck!

Reply

Once it gets one brown spot, I won’t eat it. I only like the greenish ones. Let’s get together and we will both be happy!

Reply

I ran my first half with my little brother! He was a great pacer because we definitely ran faster than I had planned…but then at mile 10 I kept the pace & he dropped me! I didn’t want to hold him back so it was ok. Plus he helped me to totally kick my goal time out of the water!

Reply

I hate the treadmill and I’m not a fan of the pool, so that pool treadmill could possibly be my worst nightmare.
Also, your question about racing together: I was supposed to run the Warrior Dash with two of my friends because we weren’t going to do it for time, just for fun. They ended up leaving me and I did the whole thing by myself, which was not fun at all. EVERYONE else was having a blast doing obstacles with their friends, while I was the only one sadly running alone. I’m not bitter though, not bitter at all.

Reply

Those pretzels look so good! I wish I were eating one right now…

I like bananas that have some green. I like more ripe bananas in my smoothies though. (Gotta hide that spinach somehow!)

I’ve run 10K’s with people before. My friend Darcy and I used to be the exact same pace, and we would both be pushing our guts out and be side by side. It was pretty cool, but then I started to surpass her and she got injured- which means we’re nowhere near the same pace anymore. Kind of sad!

Hope your foot feels better. Running is a heart breaker sometimes.

Reply

Those pretzels look so good! I’ve never tried making them, but it might be fun to make with my girls.

Ripe banana, yellow banana or brown banana? I like my bananas just like yours!

Do you remember your dreams? What was your last dream about? Had a wonderful dream over the weekend. I had a new baby. A girl with dark hair. Odd because my girls are blond.

Reply

I absolutely love bananas! In fact I always run with one in my hand during races. Mainly in case of an emergency cramp. But, now it’s just habit.

Reply

After running with a friend for over a year we decided to do our first race together. We ran the entire race together. Running together helped us both to push ourselves. Since then we’ve done several more races together. Each time we have finished with the exact same time. She pushes me to go faster and I push her to go farther.

Reply

That is so sweet of him to cook the pretzels for you! It’s so neat that he cooked it instead of buying it..
I love the picture from the runnersworld!

Reply

I ran with my younger brother when he ran his first half marathon. I even waited for him while he used the porta-potty after mile 7. It was so much fun to run together!

Reply

I ran an entire half with a friend and we had a blast. We pushed each other and it was a great experience.

Green banana!! :)

I am a vivid dreamer. I remember my dreams most mornings. My last dream was about who I was going to spend Thanksgiving with. 100% relevant… ;)

I run in the water a lot these days. I think it is great for the body and gives the joints a break. I find it harder and harder to drag myself there on a consistent basis though. I heard an olympian was injured and once trained for nine weeks in the water and won their race– so there is something to be said for water running.

Reply

For the half marathon I did with my dad, we agreed to stay together for the first 10 miles, then do the last 5K on our own… well, apparently we had similar pacing because we kept catching up to each other up until the 12 mile marker, LOL

Reply

I am pregnant too and have been wanting soft pretzels so bad! Also, that is the stage I eat my bananas too.

Reply

green bananas are the WORST. ripe or overripe all the way.
i ran a half marathon with my BFF and we talked the entire way. it was pretty slow but it was also really fun!

Reply

Those pretzels look awesome! I’m totally making some tonight!

I’ve woken up laughing like that in a dream and then tried to explain it to Mike. He thought I was insane. I’ve woken up crying, too. My dreams are always insane.

Reply

Those pretzels look awesome! With some brown mustard. Oh me.

I love that picture. I’m going to steal it. When I convinced my sister to do her first run I ran with her the whole time. It was a 5-miler. Next run we did together was a half marathon, then a 13-mile Tough Mudder……now she hates to run with me because I don’t wait for her anymore…:-(

Reply

Wow! I am impressed with Billy’s cooking skills. I’m 100% positive that I would definitely mess up that recipe. I just went to look at it & it involves cooking with yeast. I don’t know why, but that freaks me out..I just feel like I will not be good at it. He could open up his own Auntie Anne’s pretzel shop with pretzels like that!! :)
Love that running ad- that is hilarious!!
Speaking of crazy dreams, so you had a hilarious one..well I had the opposite- I had one that Craig had to wake me up because I was crying in my sleep. What the heck?! No more of that!! I need cinnamon pretzels before bed from now on ;)

Reply

an UNDERWATER treadmill!??!?! What?!?!?! This needs to happen right away haha.

I am all about the few days after ripe banana. Brown spots are a must and I am convinced that they have more flavor at this point.

When I lived with my bff in TX, we used to race almost every weekend and ran most races together…until the last 1/4 mile when she’d find this super-human speed and kick my butt by a few seconds..every. single. time. Drove me nuts! We’re going to TX again this fall to celebrate our 40th birthdays and commemoratively running the “Wurst Fest” 5 miler that ends with them handing you a brat and a beer, lol! We’ll see who zips ahead at the end, or if either of us has matured in almost 20 years and we can just run together the whole way. =)
In CO I also frequently ran and raced with my sister-in-law, since we had a similar pace. But in races she has a tendency to start slow, then speed up. I prefer to settle in at my same speed right away and stick with it. One half marathon, she kept asking me to slow down over and over again for the first 2-3 miles (and I did). Well, towards the last half mile or so, she sprinted forward and dusted me at the finish, which was disappointing. So, a couple weeks later, we ran another one, and, being just a little bit wicked and competitive, I held my pace right from the start and dropped her like a bad habit, finishing several minutes ahead of her. We’re good friends, so afterward we talked about both of those and came to an agreement that we’d decide which races to run together and which we’d go our own speed. Of course, communication helps everything…especially with us competitive types!

Reply

My 2 cousins and I run every race together. We’ve done approximately 10 races (5K’s, 10K’s and even 1/2 marathons), and we have a “no runner left behind” rule! It has worked out great. We are, however, allowed to bust it out in the last quarter mile in every attempt to PR :) Honestly, it’s those girls that keep me going when I want to quit, so I wouldn’t change a thing!

Reply

Yes, I actually paced a friend recently to a PR – the Cowtown Half Marathon here in TX. It was so much fun! I enjoyed being a pacer. Typically though I do not like racing with people but just for ‘fun’ races I don’t mind! :-) Those pretzels look fabulous and tasty! Oh and I’m sorry but I like my naners a tad bit ripe. ;-)

Reply

When I was injured earlier in the year I did under water running! I didn’t have a treadmill, but I just used one of those running belts. I looked like a TOTAL goober, but it was a great workout!!

Reply

Ripe banana! brown = gross LOL and My husband always leaves me… ALWAYS but he runs 6min miles and I run about 10 or 11 LOL He told me when I run my first half though he’ll be there all the way( this coming from a guy who never trained and had never ran farther than 7 miles and finished his first ever half in 1:45 WOW) . We will see :)

I’m a brown banana eater myself!

I LOVE running marathons with people (AKA Holly). Since I will never win a marathon I love just running them for fun and chatting, or not, the entire time. We usually go into races saying that if one of us is feeling great then they should go ahead. But at the Boston Marathon, Holly stayed with me the entire time. She could have gone faster but we trained together and she wanted to run it together.
I love that you woke up laughing your head off, I have done that a number of times and you’re right, no one else thinks the dreams are that funny :)

Reply

I don’t think I could have ran my half-marathon in march without one of my team members being there so we could cheer each other on. I’m quite sure I definitely would have walked at some point, without her. It’s nice to have someone to joke with and complain to while your running!

Reply

Too bad not every gym could have one of those under water treadmills. I would love that, especially the part with the hose.

I have ran a marathon and a half marathon with my friend and running partner. We stayed together the whole time for both. It was our first marathon together, so we were just trying to finish, and she helped me PR for the half.

I had a dream that I bought a baby Bison, but when I brought it home I soon realized that Bison do not make good pets. I think I had this dream because my husband had me watching Discovery channel where they showed a Bison being eaten by wolves. I was traumatized I guess.

Reply

I water run (without the cool treadmill) for cross training. I go to the community pool when I know it won’t be busy and run for an hour. It also helps with aerobic conditioning.
