Triple Tangent Tuesday.

The 4 miles I ran on the treadmill this morning almost killed me.  The first 3.9 I was tired and wanting to crawl back into bed but the last .1 started feeling great and then I got mad that I had to go to faculty meeting and stop running.  23 school days until I have full freedom to choose when I run, whether or not to wake up before 11 a.m. and only change out of my running clothes on Sunday.  If you are trying to choose a profession right now, teaching is the way to go…June, July & August, I guess there are a few other really awesome things about teaching too but summer really is the best;)

3 Random Tangents:

1.  Why would Billy show me the website for most awesome thing in the world when they are all sold out of the product?  As soon as I saw the pie pop maker I pushed the button to buy it and was beyond disappointed when I couldn’t.

Pie pops….think of the possibilities.  We could always use another random kitchen gadget that takes up more space.

I am sure you could even healthify these and put spinach and sweet potatoes in there if you want but mine will be filled with sugarfied berries.

2.  I think this picture is the perfect portrayal of what we really feel like after a track speed workout:

Photo

(My sis sent me this picture the other day, it was raining outside so they went walking on the indoor track.  I promise Curly is okay, she is just a tad bit dramatic)

I found the perfect little chart that makes it easy to figure out where you should be in terms of effort for your different runs:  (Source: Runners World of course:)

3.  A cute friend of mine emailed me this story about her friend:

A FULL BODYSUIT for the entire marathon on a crazy hot day?  All I can say is wow.

——————————————

Sorry, you are going to get 4 tangents today:

My in-laws gave this to me and I am hiding it away so that no one else eats in until I like chocolate again.  I know it will be amazing but I just need to get my taste buds normal again and stop choosing cheese over candy.

TELL ME SOME TANGENTS ABOUT YOUR DAY!!!!

Ever ran a race in a costume?  What was it?

-Just one time with the sister when we were Pinatas.

Do you like the chocolate and peanut butter combo or the chocolate and coconut combo better?

Anyone else have a tired run today?

Haha that pic of Curly had me laughing :) I swear, she is the cutest thing ever!

Reply

Chocolate and PB for sure! I love the other combo too but PB always wins in my world.
I am tired today, so if it was a running day it would be a tired one!

Reply

Yes, I had a tired run today. Track repeats followed by hill repeats and it was day 4 in a row of running with tomorrow off. I am always dead the day before a day off. I guess that is why we rest and recover, right?

Reply

I have taken to past two days off because I ran a marathon on Sunday; so its just been the bike and elliptical…but I’m back to running tomorrow!!! Yay :)

Chocolate and peanut butter only because I’ve never tried chocolate and coconut! FYI you should try Wild Squirrel Nut Butter. They have fun flavors like pretzel peanut butter, cinnamon raisin pb, chocolate espresso pb, and chocolate coconut pb! I’ve tried the first 2 and they are really good!

Reply

Oops! They don’t have chocolate espresso pb anymore. But they do have almond butters

Reply

My condolences on both the pie pop maker AND not liking chocolate…they both sound pretty horrific!

Reply

Thank you for understanding the tough time I am going through:)

Reply

Are you ready to laugh your face off?

Also my tangent for today is the fact that I could barely see the pages on my book from crying so much! Geez

Reply

And you just made my day. That guy is hilarious and really awkward ha….his cake pops turned out pretty good looking but he did get the egg shell in the batter, did you see that?
Why were you crying?

Reply

From the book! I was finishing up the last book in the Hunger Games series and it was just one of those days where I’m pretty sure a Snickers wrapper blowing in the wind could’ve made me cry…..actually that is sad no matter what day it is.

Reply

HAHAHA You are right, that is sad no matter what. I totally understand those days. Now you need to eat a baked good, take a bath or cuddle up on the couch watching chick flicks!

Reply

Ooh, the pie pop maker looks fantastic! What a great idea!

Love the picture of Curly on the track. So adorable!

I’ve never raced in a costume but I’ve sure seen some wacky ones. Among the most memorable included full-body Zentai suits which even cover your entire head, no breathing holes or eye holes or anything! You better make sure you’ve used the portapotty before you start racing in one of those, for sure!

Reply

I’m 9-ish weeks pregnant (going to the dr. to see the bean on Thursday!! Woohoo!!) and can’t stand the thought of anything sweet, even fruit :( I’ve been living off cheese, bread, and rice…SO boring. But under normal circumstances, I’m a PB & chocolate gal.

Reply

I’m in the same boat as you! I joke that right now I’m on the “no carb left behind” diet.

Reply

AHHH What is our deal?!?! Why do you guys think this is? Sweets are so delicious normally.

Reply

I don’t know…I’ve also been blessed with 24/7 morning sickness. Come on, 2nd timester!!! I CAN NOT wait to eat fruits, veggies, and candy again :)

Reply

chocolate and peanut butter is always a winning combo in my book–SO good. One of the three cupcake flavors that we’re having at our wedding reception this summer is chocolate cake with peanut butter whipped frosting :)

Reply

I totally want that pie pop maker! I love random kitchen gadgets so much I just wish I had room for more. I mean think of all the cool types of pies you could make? Pie pop parties!

I’m a chocolate and PB person all the way. Anything with PB is good for me :)

Reply

Chocolate and peanut butter ALL THE WAY, baby!!
I got 4 miles in today – hey, it’s better than nothing. I hate that I have one mile of hills to deal with when I run from my house (no matter what direction I go – how does that even make sense?)
My awesome husband bought me a treadmill for my birthday – it’s supposed to be delivered later this week. I’m so excited!!! :)

Those piñata costumes are awesome – can you do a quick tutorial on how you made them at some point? Like maybe before the Cinco de Mayo party I have to go to?? Please???? I need a costume and those are adorable!!!

And, have you tried reheating leftover pizza in a covered frying pan yet?? It’s worth it to get pizza just to try the reheating method!!! :)

Reply

I ran a Halloween race in a homemade Rainbow Brite costume last fall! It was awesome – probably one of my favourite costumes ever :)

Chocolate and PB = Y-E-S! Not so much for chocolate and coconut, though that 3 muketeers looks awfully good ;) I don’t think you can get those in Canada!

Reply

I need some pb and chocolate right now.

I’ve never raced in costume, I have a hard enough time picking out normal running clothes to race in. The chafing possibilities with a costume are endless!

Reply

Ha CURLY! Anxious for you to have freedom–a chance for you to listen to your body and run when you want, sleep when you want too!

The body suit looks like a death sentence for yesterday’s race! ugh! I do like running in a well-ventilated costume though!

You lost me at PB…my true love. ;)

Reply

Thanks for posting that chart, it’s really helpful. Random thing: I am seriously craving some ice cream right now! And coconut/chocolate combo!

Reply

My half marathon last Sept…a guy was running in a full-on chicken costume and it was a HOT September day. I joked that it’s a good thing I didn’t speed up at the finish line or else we would have been crossing at the same time and the chicken totally would have won in the picture-taking department by the husband…I’m sure of it!

Reply

Oh my…why don’t we have coconut 3 muskateers in canada??? Must.find.

Reply

I need to send you one!

Reply

Great post! I love the random ones :)
I’ve never ran a race with a costume, but I did the Color Run 5K a few weekends ago so I think being dyed head to toe in all the colors of the rainbow pretty much counts ;-)

Reese’s are my favorite candy, so I vote chocolate + pb combo. I’ve also recently discovered swirling peanut butter and nutella. Now that is good stuff!

I had a pretty solid 5 mile treadmill run today. Didn’t feel tired but I have a blister from breaking in new running shoes that is going to be soooore tomorrow.

Reply

Wow- I can’t believe you lost your taste for chocolate!! I can’t imagine that ever happening (candy addict!) but maybe one day. Hope yours comes back for the 3 muskateers :)

I’ve never run in a costume but I think it would be really fun for a casual race. I’m kind of injured at the moment, but one day…one day… ;)

Reply

haha oh my, those pie pops are just too much. actually, i really wish i could have one, but i still can’t believe what they come up with these days. i just need unlimited kitchen space so i can have all the fun kitchen gadgets in the world.
coconut + chocolate vs. peanut butter + chocolate?? oh my goodness, that is totally a given… DEFINITELY the peanut butter + chocolate wins in my book. ;)

Reply

Your niece is my favorite.

Reply

That candy bar will knock your socks off! My friend and I can’t find them anywhere, so we have to go to the hospital cafe to get them. While we’re there, we also have their nachos and onion rings. Have you ever had either? The onion rings are Provo’s best if you ask me…and they cost less that $2! Woot!

Reply

I love chocolate and peanut butter together :)

Right now I’m trying to decide if I’ll be making supper or picking up pizza for dinner… I have errands to run and am feeling frazzled!

Reply

I did arms today which is boring as usu but I guess I gotta get’m done.

My sister and I got dolled up and I made us matching running skirts for the goofy this past jan. We had one for the half and then a different one for the full. It was awesome and so much fun!

Hmm that is a tough one. But I think I like chocolate and coconut better.

PS that pic of your niece is hilarious!

Reply

Great job getting your arm workout in, you inspire me. That is so fun you and your sis did the goofy challenge and especially because you were MATCHING!

Reply

omg, i must try that coconut musketteers now! my 2 favorites in one candy bar:)

i actually ran outside for the first time ever and loved it! i only did about 1.70miles but wow, its so much more fun than running on a treadmill.

my sister and i just bought a cake pop maker off of groupon and we cannot wait till it gets here!

i didn’t necessarily run a race, but i did do the color run this year and we walked all of it, lol! it was so much fun, you and billy need to do one!

Reply

Let me know how the cake pops turn out! I think we are going to do a color run wahoo, sounds like a blast!

Reply

Chocolate + PB wins every time!

Reply

i love that chart….

i love pb and chocolate ….love it

had a run today and i got feet problems….

Reply

I would have to go with chocolate, coconut, and caramel like samoas. MMmmmm….
Oh, and I had a horrible 4 miles on the treadmill too! What gives?? Had a long race over a week ago and I guess my body is still recovering. It’s too bad my mind doesn’t have the patience though!

Reply

Pie pops?? Yum!!

Husband and I just got back from Chili’s because I had a coupon for free dessert. We got their molten Oreo cake. It had melted Oreo cream in the middle. It was ah-mazing. ;)

Reply

Free molten oreo cake?!?! That makes me so happy…good for you guys!

Reply

I had a tired morning yesterday, so I ran at night. NEV.ER. HAPP.ENS!

Reply

Chocolate and peanut butter will always have my heart. Always!

Reply

PB and Chocolate all the way!!
I hate when a run suddenly feels good right when you need to stop!! Darn it!

Mmmm, pie pops! I wish I invented that!!

Reply

Your niece is the cutest, that is too adorable! pie pops?!?! Why can’t I invent cool things like that and be a millionaire, darn. I don’t think I can choose between PB + chocolate and coconut and chocolate, I’ll take both. I didn’t run today, but I am tired. 3 hours sleep last night, yikes. Have a great Tuesday!

Reply

you talking about summer vacation makes me so excited to teach! i’m job hunting and hoping for my own classroom come fall :)

Reply

That is so so exciting. Please keep me updated with how the job hunt goes!

Reply

I know you are a Biggest Loser fan…..thoughts?!!?!

Honestly I disliked this season, I really liked two seasons ago.

Reply

I totally disliked this season too but I watched it anyways…too much drama don’t you think….I want to see the workouts!

Reply

Haha so funny but I actually have a picture of that man in the suit running on my blog today! I totally saw him during the marathon and had to take a pic :)

Reply

I actually had a great run! I did a 35 minute interval workout and covered 4 miles, it was a blast because I was so afraid I’d be to sore to do it, but I wasn’t at all! Just have to get going some days!

Reply

Poor little Curly!

I will now be on the lookout for that new Coconut 3 Musketeers bar!

Reply

hahaha….hope u savored that .1 miles of bliss! ;) okay, so i happened upon a thing that makes individual pies which i thought was genius but billy just blew.my.mind!! that is awesome! :)

ugh, power thru those last few days of school then here’s to not having to set an alarm clock!

Reply

I’ve never raced in costume. I’m no fun like that. I did wear a green shirt for my St. Patty’s Day Leprechaun Chase.

Chocolate and peanut butter all the way. I’m pretty sure I ate 10 mini reese’s pb cups today. In a row. I’m pregnant so it’s justified right?

I’m pregnant so all my runs are tired runs. Although it was better than yesterday.

That chart is so awesome. Can’t talk. Must run.

Reply

I am so glad it was better than yesterday. Good to know that I am not the only one experiencing tiredness for every run. PS my doc said it is good to eat 10 mini pb cups in a row when you are pregnant:)

Reply

The red one’s in stock! Hurry and get it ! It’s not as cute as the pink one, but still!

We ran last Halloween’s race as Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf. I made my poor hubby run a 5K in a wolf mask :) There were photo ops all through the course… lol.

Reply

AHHH bless your heart, thank you for letting me know. Oh cute, I love the costumes that you wore!

Reply

You are a total rock star for even stepping foot on a treadmill preggo!
I have a kiddo with a peanut allergy, so at school, I sneak snickers and almond joy…I can only imagine the coconut 3 muskateers is going to be stupidly awesome. I’m getting one tomorrow!

Reply

I didn’t have a tired run today, but I did yesterday afternoon. The temperature was in the 70’s (which I’m not used to because I usually run in the mornings) and I didn’t have enough electrolytes with me! I still pulled out 18.25 by the end and I guess it felt good after.

Reply

Definitely had a tired run today…and then, got bit by a dog. Not. Cool.

Reply

I didn’t run today, but I taught my cheerleaders a dance, then taught hiphop, then taught SHRED. By the end of hip hop, I was so incredibly tired! Luckily, the energy at SHRED was awesome and we rocked that workout.

I don’t know that I can choose between chocolate/pb and chocolate coconut. I love them both so much! (Proof – tonight for dessert I mixed a no sugar added fudgesicle with a teaspoon of chocolate coconut peanut butter….I also am making a chocolate coconut smoothie for breakfast tomorrow.)

Thought that you would love this story… It is so inspiring about running!!

My Tuesday Tangents: Spent more money than our rent on a maintenance car check up : / Am incredibly sore from pushing a double stroller through the zoo, but it was totally worth it to see my son get down on all fours and elephant walk and use his arm as a trunk imitating the elephant that we saw. It was so cute! My cat is sitting next to me snoring. Loudly.

Reply

Curly is TOO funny :) Dramatic much?! Haha

Reply

I can’t believe that guy ran the whole race in that! And I also can’t believe I thought it was a Where’s Waldo costume until you said something about being patriotic?! I LOVE wearing costumes, I’ve worn a tutu, a Snow White costume, lederhosen, a sparkle skirt, etc. etc. etc.!

Reply

Haha love that pic of Curly- your sis must have so much fun with her! What’s her real name?

Reply

Haha! That pic of Curly is great! That’s how I got my son to stop throwing tantrums: I took a pic on my phone and posted it on Facebook! He stopped throwing tantrums real quick! ;)

I didn’t run today :( My schedule is always a bit crazy on Tuesdays, so I went into the Athletic Training room at the local college (I work there) and iced my foot. I swear, if it doesn’t start cooperating for marathon season, I’m gonna chop it off ;)

Tuesday’s Tangent: I lost a hair clippy today. I clipped my bangs back so I didn’t have to flat iron them, and somewhere during the course of the day, I lost the back clip. I can feel the bump in my hair where it’s supposed be, but I can’t find the sucker! LOL

Reply

I’m still choosing cheese over chocolate too!!! So wild !!! CALCIUM is what we need- baby is building bones!!!

Reply

The pace overview you have posted is great…it is so important to run at the right speed (I had to learn it the painfull way!)
I am recovering at the moment from my first marathon (Sunday)…but today I am itching to get my running shoes on…lets see if I can squeeze in a tiny little run between work and Kindergarten.
The combo question is tricky – depends on day, type of chocolate and previous intake.
Have a lovely day!

I have a sweet spot for coconut. I always feel like I weird that I love coconut so much!

And tiered run for me a little. I was hoping to get in a good track session but after my hard hilly race Saturday, my quads were still feeling it a little. Peppy 7min mile pace run – but will save the speed work for Thursday instead :)

Reply

I wished you lived closer so you could whip my butt into shape! You are an inspiration – pregnant and more in shape than I am! :)

I’m trying to think of the next “pop” idea before someone else does… cake pops, pie pops, what’s next???

Reply

I will never, ever understand the 5k or race pace thing. When I run (race or training), I just run what I can at the time! I guess I’m not a real runner then! LOL

I do love coconut but I think I love chocolate and PB a tad bit more!

Reply

I saw Brad running during Boston! I was watching at the mile 23 marker, and all I could think was how crazy he was for being covered up. He looked great at that point though, and was def. pumping everyone up!

Reply

Chocolate and PB is the best combination ever created. Ever.

Haven’t had a tired run today… yet! My run is happening later today, so we’ll see! :)

Running a Race in Costume:
We try to run an annual Halloween 5K race in my husband’s hometown. One year I ran in a German girl outfit (which is AWESOME for running, btw. The green skirt matched my green shorts underneath and the stockings were like compression socks, but with bows on them!!) I ran with a beer in one hand the entire time and only spilled 1/3 of it. People loved it! My husband was “dressed” as Borat and ran in the horrible green bikini. (Don’t worry, he put on a pair of pantyhose and also had some compression shorts on under those.) People were either disgusted or laughing their butts off.
I was the 1st girl in costume to cross the line that year and got $100! (I bought a ceiling fan with that. How domesticated.)
Two or three years ago I was Lindsay Lohan and ran in a prisoner costume (again, a dress).
This past year we were both beer bottles. (Our last name is Beers, coincidentally.) We bought these foam rubber costumes and had to stuff the top with newspaper to get it to stand up. It was a little annoying but not too bad. I still can’t believe we didn’t win best family costume! This year I was 3rd girl overall and “only” won $50…I think I got jipped!

No idea what the plan is for this year, but we need to get started on it soon!

Reply

I have the pie pop maker and did ham and cheese pops. Big winner at my house ;)
