Forced to cut my run short.

And I am not happy about it.  I am not upset because I didn’t hit a certain number of miles but because I didn’t stop exactly ON the mile to fulfill my OCD needs.  I was happily running along continuing to enjoy my week of awesome runs when Billy came in and warned me that it snowed and that it will take me a little longer to get to work.

Hi, Utah.  Remember how you were 70 degrees on Wednesday?

Being the responsible adult that I am I stopped at 7.34 miles so that I could get there on time.  That .34 will bug me all day long….if only he would have come in 3 minutes earlier so I could have stopped at 7.00;)  Yes, I have serious issues.

Something that made me really enjoy my run this morning was my sweet new set up.

After I finished an episode of Make It or Break It (why can’t that show be longer…43 minutes is just not long enough) I had nothing to watch and so I decided to try out reading, it worked out perfectly.  That probably makes some of you sick to even think about running and reading at the same time but for some reason it doesn’t bother me.  I was also listening to my favorite Mariah Carey song on repeat while reading…best combination ever.

Something else pretty tragic happened today.  My prep on MWF is 2nd period (I don’t have a prep T, TH) and as I was reaching into my lunch bag to get out my string cheese and crackers I couldn’t find the cheese anywhere.  I started to panic.  Why me?  I put on my coat, headed out in the blizzard to go to Walmart (closer than home) to get my beloved cheese and I lived happily ever after.

Hallelujah.  Spring Break started 6 minutes ago.

Ryan Hall is making a documentary all about his training for the 2012 Olympics.  Billy and I LOVE running documentaries and the fact that it is about Ryan makes it even better.  Here is a short little clip from his website about the film and it makes me want to go run in the rain while running uphill with a 4 minute mile pace:

And look what you get if you donate lots of mula:

Looks like we know where our next two (okay, 3) months of paychecks will be going.  Billy, we are going to have a blast running around Arizona for a day with Ryan Hall, I bet he likes froyo too.

The greatest thing that WILL happen to me today is happy hour with some co-workers! In 39 minutes, to be exact. Have a great weekend and enjoy your break!

The temperature has been in the 60s-80s here lately, but last night we had a freeze warning! People were covering up their trees and flowers because everything had started budding and growing already.

Greatest thing so far today… probably my peanut butter and banana sandwich ;) But there’s still lots of day left.

I just started re-reading the Hunger Games! Excited to find new details I missed the first time around :)

Wow, am I the first poster!? I hope so, better write this quick. I just finished reading the lovely geeky novel, soon to be a movie, Ready Player One and my next read is the third in the Fire and Ice/Game of Thrones series.

Best thing that happened to me is being the first to comment here. Oh the ecstacy!

Darn it!!!

Our weather is perfect today. It’s a perk living in social BUT I do wish it rained a little more and I would love snow ONCE in awhile!!
Right now I’m reading Run Like a Mother and enjoying it a lot!
Greatest thing to happen so far?? I got my Runner’s World Mag and Real Simple Mag on my kindle!!! It’s the little things. Oh and there are a ton more free movies on demand that I haven’t seen yet. So excited to watch them!!

Wow, crazy weather!! It cooled down a bit here in Georgia … but it’s still in the upper 60’s! ;)

Wish I had that kind of cash lying around!

I ju st finished the hunger games, again. They get better every time!

I can’t believe it snowed! It’s April!

I’m obsessed with Make it or Break it, too! Too bad we didn’t live closer to each other…we could have an all-day Make it or Break it marathon complete with Easter candy and running capris.

Reply

I agree about the 43 minutes! I have been watching on DVD Season 1 of Friday Night Lights and they are too short…then I start the next episode for 16 or so minutes and then I am all goofed up!! :) Too funny!

I’m just north of you, up in Pocatello, Idaho. My view looked the same as yours this morning, so I opted for the treadmill. ;) I do the same thing with mileage, even if it means sticking it out in crummy weather conditions, or coming in and finishing up on the treadmill.

Love your blog and all the great photos!

haha no kidding on the utah weather! it can never make up its mind. i was looking at the 7 day forecast, and it says it’s supposed to be sunny and 80 degrees on monday! craziness.
lack of time or my body telling me it needs a break seem to be the biggest culprits of cutting my runs short. sheesh, if only we didn’t have to be responsible adults and work! ;)

Reply

I can’t believe you have snow!! I hate the cold so snow would ruin my day :) haha! It’s pretty to look at though. I am reading the new Jane Green book and it’s really good. I also have to cut my runs short due to work.

Work and kids cut my runs short. And it bugs me all day.

For the first time in forever, I did 2 workouts in one day and it felt amazing: upper body weights in the morning and a run after work! I doubly enjoyed my run because i didn’t go in with a particular pace/distance goal in mind: just ran to my heart’s content :)

Reply

The only times I’ve had to cut my runs short are if I’m freaking out about studying or if I’m injured and whatever is hurt starts to bother me – I’ve learned running through the pain is soooo not worth it!

Reply

Ahhhh I am just like you, that .34 would bug me all day! Haha my OCD must be worse though, I would have ran an extra .16 miles and made myself late (then blamed it on the weather) just for the sake of my sanity so I could say I ran 7.5 miles.

That documentary looks amazing, I’m SO obsessed with these training videos! There were some great videos of Desiree Davila (and some other Brooks Hansen runners) before the Olympic trials. I must have watched them 5 times each, then I decided I was going to be an olympian too..

Right now I’m reading Dean Karnazes 50/50 and LOVING it. I also want to be a an ooober distance runner and after I finish each chapter I decide I’m going for a 6 hour run the next day… I’m sure it would be great training for being an Olympian, until I died on hour 3. Ha!

Usually w0rk cuts it short. Sometimes me just wanting to spend time with my husband will make me cut it off early!

Speaking of the husband, the best thing that happened today was finding a great deal on lower bowl Jazz game tickets to surprise him with after work :-).

Oh — and I am reading Divergent right now. It’s a YA novel similar to The Hunger Games. You should check it out!

About to begin reading”In the Sanctuary of Outcasts”…..about Carville leprosy hospital in Louisiana.

Reply

I can’t believe you can read while running! That is some serious talent :)

Goodness look at all that snow!!!! I’m not gonna like, I’m kind of jealous. We didn’t get any snow down here in Virginia this past winter and being from the north I really do like snow!!!

The greatest thing that happened to me today? I won a fellowship for my last year in my PhD program! :-)

Worst thing? Going to the Charlottesville Marathon Expo even though I can’t run the race (torture! although there could be worse things…)

Reply

I’m OCD on the miles too. In my head I round down and pretend the .34 didn’t happen to justify

Reply

The greatest thing that happened to me today is I got to spend some quality time with my best friend’s newborn. Yay!

Right now I’m reading Sisterhood Everlasting…need to read it to see if I can put it in my classroom… ahh, teaching.

Reply

I’m the same way. If I had end my run at 7.34, I would have to make up the .16 on my next run. Otherwise, it would drive me crazy. My kids usually cut my run/workouts short. I try to get my workouts done when they are sleeping.

The greatest thing that happened to me today was having gyros and frozen yogurt for lunch, buying a cute running skirt and leaving the house without my kids. It’s the little things in life.

I’m currently reading Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion. I’m working on my persuasion skills, so I can influence my husband to buy me an iPad or a new laptop for my birthday.

The weather is crazy right now. It’s windy(it’s been windy for the past couple weeks) and cold. Ugh.

Reply

I know I’m super late with reading this, but I just started Hunger Games last night! I’ll finish it this weekend before I start school again next week. :)

I know this has to do with the last post but I am going to happy sumo tonight- – after 9 for the half of deal for VIPs. . what appetizers/ entree do you like there? I always get just rolls- the lime one is my favorite!! but I want to get that and an entree/appetizer . . suggestions?

Reply

Ahhhh so fun! I want to come:) the tuna tataki is my favorite appetizer and the lettuce wraps are amazing too! My favorite entree is the Szechuan chicken…so good! Let me know what you end up getting!

It has been in the NINETIES here this week, and this morning it was 50. It might have well as been 15 degrees. It felt so cold! Luckily, it has warmed up to 65.

The best part of my day so far was finding two new pair of workout bottoms (one running capris, one shorts) on super sale. :) I also found Daniel a couple of really cool tshirts.

I hope you enjoy your spring break! We already had our spring break, but we’re off today and Monday for Easter. Only 7 more weeks of school!!!

Reply

I love to run and read. I can do 7:10 pace and read. People don’t understand how. Time flies that way

Reply

The greatest thing that happened to me today was my daughter sleeping in until 8am which means I got to sleep in. Oh, and my husband coming home from his run with cheesecake!

I just started reading Catching Fire.

Reply

Oh gosh–you are having a bi-polar spring! Ours is just cold and colder! :(

I just finished Unbroken. The story revolved around an Olympic miler that was forced to give up his career during WWII.

You Easter candy hunt pic below is HILARIOUS!!! AND ENJOY YOUR SPRING BREAK!!!!

Reply

My kids are definitely the reason my runs get cut short – at least you got over 7 miles in!
My one great thing is I ran today, 2nd day this week! I only did 3 miles but they were at mgp, and then I hopped on the stairmaster for the rest, but it was nice to run.
Happy spring break! Enjoy your time off!!!

Reply

To make yourself feel better, think of the walking around walmart to get you stringcheese the finishing part of your run, and you can call it a solid eight for OCD purposes:). Have a great snowy day, yay for being on spring break!

Reply

I had to cut my run short today because the wind was 50-60 mph-no joke. That’s Wyoming for you. I was suppose to do 10, but it made it to 7 before the headwind took all the fun out of it for me. I can’t stand the wind. And it is incredibly dusty right now so you get pummeled with sand and debris along the river. It makes breathing tough too. Ok, I’ll stop complaining now.

Reply

Yep, UT was snowy today!! Crazy. Just moved from a place that was 80-90 degrees! Boo.

I hate cutting my runs short too–so I feel for ya!

Reply

Our weather was the opposite of the last two days. Those days were snow overnight and morning. Rain in the afternoon and evening. Today? Beautiful bright, blue sky with lots of sun and 55 degrees. Yes!

Reply

I’m so OCD too. Drives me nuts to end on weird numbers.

Reply

I have to tell you that I myself am borderline OCD and I so completely understand you on not finishing at 7 or 8 … I would have been even good with 7.5 but NOT 7.34 :) … the thing is that I am not even kidding … Ha ha … :) have a great weekend.

Reply

If I’m on my treadmill then my kids will most definitely make me cut my run short. I really try to run while they are sleeping but it doesn’t always work that way. If I’m running outside the only thing I let affect my run is the wind. I despise really fierce wind which is what we’ve had all day today here in Idaho. Boo.
The best thing that happened to me today is trying a new soup recipe and having it turn out to be one of my new favorites.
Right now I’m reading the Complete Guide to Running from Runner’s World. It’s full if lots of helpful info.

Hahah I thought that face was the “I got the cheese!” face

HEY CARA!! Those are two of our favorites too and there aren’t very many but you HAVE to watch The Ultramarathon Man and we love watching Kona Ironman documentary!

I think make it or break it should be one hour 5 days a week!!
the greatest thing that happened to me was the hubby surprising me with small pint of ben&jerrys chocolate fudge brownie froyo!! when I got out of work…made my week!!

Reply

I could not agree with you more! That was so sweet of your husband….best surprise ever!

Work always cuts my runs short! Luckily today was a holiday for Easter, so I was able to run a little over 10!!!

You should move to DC, best spring weather.

Greatest thing today: No work, long run, delicious chicken/avocado sandwich from a random day trip to Charlottesville, and the bag of sour patch jelly beans I ate on the way to Charlottesville. And oh, my husband didn’t have work either. Fabulous day.

Current read: So much HW for my masters program. Got to love being back in school.

Happy Friday!

I can’t believe it’s SNOWING in Utah when it’s freaking 93 degrees here in Orlando. Let’s meet half way??

Hope you have a WONDERFUL Spring Break!

Reply

OMG! I totally have the same OCD moments. Like I’ll be in spin and realize I have to go or I’ll be late to work/appointment and I still just sit on the bike until I hit an even number. I even went so far that I did get off early and it bugged me soo much that I went back to the gym to even it out…yah, I’m a freak. Wow, snow in Utah, I would cry if I woke up to that. I hope the weather gets nicer! Enjoy your Easter weekend!

Reply

LOVE make it or break it!! Love love. I also suffer from your OCD ness and MuST end on an even mile. Once in awhile I will allow .5. But that’s it, the only choices. I just read Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close and LOVED IT! Read it!

Reply

Lack of time or sideaches usually cut my runs short.

We had LOTS of wind over here in western Colorado. We got that snow on Monday!! :)

Greatest thing to happen to me today is my leftover enchiladas. Mmmmmm!!

I am reading Catching Fire right now!! Which reminds me…gotta go!!

Reply

That snow is nuts! Pushing snooze 7 times/having to get to work on time combined is what makes me cut my runs short. I used to be exactly like you and needed to stop on the mile or at least half mile. I feel like since I’ve been doing more biking I’ve been “cured” of that since it’s not always as easy to get it right. I’m reading the second book of the “Bronze Horseman” series and I love it!

Reply

Just finished Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children. Weird book. I liked it though. I work at a library so I have about 10 other books waiting for me to read right now.

Reply

I’ve been trying to get over my running OCD, so I’ve been running for time instead of distance. It’s helping a lot. Plus, it’s fun when the fractions of miles add up at the end of the week.

No weird weather here. It’s glorious and sunny out.

Reply

I’m glad I’m not the only with snow still falling out of the sky! It has been snowing the past two days here in Alaska, and I do not like it!

Reply

I just finished Defending Jacob which is the best book I have read since the Hunger Games (over a year ago). MUST MUST read.

NYC has been bouncing between 30-70 degree days. It did snow Friday-Saturday in upstate NY, though.

I am OCD about my mile stops as well on the GPS. It really bothers me that a 5K is 3.1 miles, 10K 6.2, etc. WHy the .Xs????
