My National Holiday.

I don’t know if you heard but yesterday was National Fro-Yo day and I really hope that you celebrated.

I did the only acceptable thing and took the free cup that they gave me and filled it up to its max capacity.  The place was packed and after waiting in line for 30 minutes I was more than ready to load up.

Since I obviously know all of the employees at Yogurtland, when I got to the checkout the owner looked at me and just said, “you would.”  I told him that I have been counting down the minutes to this event and I was going to take full advantage of it.  The key to my froyo masterpiece was that I layered the bottom with caramel cups and twix pieces, I had been thinking about my strategy all day long.

Did I tell you about my embarrassing moment the other day.  As Billy was checking our credit card bill he looked over at me and asked, “did you buy your friends fro-yo the other day when you went to Yogurtland with her?”

I looked down and had to confess that the 6 dollar transaction was from me and me alone, that is only 1.4 lbs of fro-yo…doesn’t he know me by now or maybe he is just in denial.

As soon as we got home (there was no where to sit inside, it was jam packed) I quickly transferred what I hadn’t eaten yet to a mug because it was dripping everywhere.

Perfect eating device for a night of watching The Bachelor at my BIL’s and SIL’s house! I did request a spoon that matched my shirt.

Before The Bachelor I put together the most random dinner in the world:

I had a baked potato with ketchup and BBQ sauce….it is totally acceptable to put on your baked potato whatever you would dip your french fries into.  No picture because it just looked weird.

And a salad with what else but my favorite ingredients.  There was also some 7-layer dip that tasted delicious at about 9:30 pm. Quite the random night of food but I celebrated my favorite national holiday in the best way possible.  Check back later for a post where I don’t go on and on about my love affair with frozen treats.

Tuesday morning=my spin class=requires a lot of energy and peppiness=I went to bed at 9:05 pm last night.

———————————————————————–

Did you celebrate national froyo day?  Did you get free Yogurtland? What is your favorite national food holiday?

Did you watch The Bachelor yesterday….WHAT DID YOU THINK ABOUT IT?!?! (don’t read comments if you don’t want it to be spoiled).

What did you have on your last salad?

-The one before last nights was amazing, I got school lunch and it had sunflower seeds, turkey, hard-boiled eggs, cucumbers and cheese…I was in heaven with every bite it was the first thing I told Billy about when I got home from work.

Anyone else biking or spinning today?  This week?

You do me real proud :)! So jealous that you got free fro but glad you “milked” the deal as much as you could! Apparently yesterday was also National Nutella Day..now why hasn’t Nutella-flavored fro yo been created yet?? Last salad I had today but today’s lunch which involved lettuce, grilled pumpkin, green beans, feta, olives and a chickpea patty…Ketchup was my dressing of choice :D

Laughing so hard at your carefully crafted Fro-yo! Looks delicious! We don’t have a frozen yogurt place anywhere near here–but i did have ice cream.

I will have to have the husband read your blog, so he will no longer pick on me for my baked potato/ketchup and ‘throw everything in the fridge into a salad’. My last salad had cabbage, broccoli, cottage cheese, brown rice, lentils, nutritional yeast and a hard boiled egg.

enjoy your spin!

Reply

HA…I am so happy Becky that I can help your husband to realize how NORMAL we are. Your salad sounds amazing!

Reply

Ahh!! You put ketchup on your potato?? I do too and spend every family get together saying the exact same thing, if you dip a french fry into it, you can dip baked or mashed potatoes into it!

Jelly on the fro yo! No Yougurtland here, just Yogen Fruz which I insist on driving 30 minutes of of the way to get the one that lets you serve your own!

Reply

Why is it so weird to people…I just don’t understand it. I definitely use it on my mashed potatoes too!

Reply

What? National Frozen Yogurt Day wasn’t on my calendar. How did I miss it? So no, no yogurt yesterday.
Fav National Food Holiday: is there a greasy wing day? Cookie Day?
No Bachelor and can’t remember the last salad I had. But it probably had egg, some sort of meat and lots of ranch dressing.
Personal Trainer today. DREADING. Not because of him. But I seem to be lacking motivation lately.

My goals this week are:

Monday – Kettlebells
Tuesday – Butts and Guts
Thursday – Beginning Spin
Saturday – Kettlebells

… plus 30+ min of cardio at work 4 days this week.

I made it through 35 min of cardio on monday and kettlebell class… we’ll see if I make it to Spin on Thursday ;-)

Reply

DANG…your workouts this week look AWESOME!! I need to try out Kettlebells!

Oh yes…the bachelor…crazy! drama, drama, drama. Courtney is insane. And I don’t understand how Chris Harrison always knows EVERYTHING….like that this girl is still in love with her boyfriend/ex-boyfriend/whatever he may be. He is like Big Brother of The Bachelor or something. I am addicted.

And I love fro-yo!!!!!! I unfortunately do not have a Yogurtland near me :( but my favorite is Frozen-Yo which is all over DC.

Have a good day, Janae!

Reply

They really must pay her to be so crazy..no human being is that weird and they love the drama so I kind of think it is planned. Chris knows WAY too much. I wish I could watch it with you!

Reply

Aww I wish I could watch with you, too! Alex doesn’t like to watch with me so I usually just share my frustrations and reactions to various things to lucky random people who put up with my texting :)
Already counting down until next Monday!

Reply

Yesterday was national froyo day?!?! awh mannn I missed out :( that stuff is so good too

Reply

You definitely mastered the free cup filling! I don’t think any of our local fro-yo shops had giveaways yesterday.

Reply

Darn… I totally missed the free fro yo! Can’t believe it. Sometimes I think I live under a rock. I am on a total salad kick right now. It’s the chickfila southwest chicken salad. It is amazing. I eat it at least twice a week. I blame the pregnancy hormones. :) I am already thinking I might need one for lunch today.

Reply

I love chickfila, I need to try out their sw chicken salad…YUM! I hope you get one for lunch today!

Reply

That fro yo is insane!! :D

Reply

No froyo around here, unfortunately….
I had cucumbers, spinach, tomatoes, and red pepper soup (yes, soup) as my dressing on my last salad. Gotta come up with some odd combos when you live in a dining hall. Tonight, AVOCADOS! YESSS!

Now that you’ve said it…yes, I think a bike ride this week would be lovely for cross-training. Less than three weeks till my first half-marathon…I need to step it up!

Reply

BRILLIANT to use soup as a dressing, seriously…I will be trying that! Enjoy your bike ride this week and I am STOKED for your 1st 1/2 marathon, you are going to rock it!

Reply

Ugh! I have nothing good to respond to ANY of your questions, so I will say that I am in total jealousy-mode that I was not able to help celebrate your day yesterday! I did have a big plate of roasted veggies for dinner, so I suppose that counts as my salad? And I will be bikeless, spinless, swimless this week – all running miles!

Reply

I am very upset with my fro-yo place now because I went last night and they were not celebrating! I had to spend $6 (this is a totally normal amount to spend). I should go back and complain.

I did watch the Bachelor! Next week looks intense!

I’m going to try to get to spinning this week for some cross training. I need to take it easy with the running. Have a great day!

Reply

AH! i feel so much better knowing im not the only one with a $6 cup of froyo after all the toppings!!

the little highschool girls behind the register are judging me i know -_- but i dont care i love my 20:80 ratio of froyo to toppings!!!

Reply

Thank you…I will be showing Billy your comments to show him that it is NORMAL to spend $6 on froyo!

Reply

Wow that Fro-yo looks AMAZING!! We don’t have anywhere to buy it here and I’m now seriously considering a roadtrip solely to find fro yo :-)

My last salad was immeditely post-13.1 mile run (I demanded a hot chocolate stop… then ordered food :D) The salad had spinach, apple, some sort of nuts, cheese and a maple vinaigrette dressing. YUM!!

Reply

I need that salad in my life right this second!

Reply

That is the BEST photo ever! I love it!! I did not celebrate cause there is no fro-yo places here, but in 3 short weeks I am celebrating for 8 days straight :)
I love national peanut butter day and national pancake day too!
My lunch salad yesterday was spinach, baby corn, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, black beans, quinoa, avocado hummus and red pepper!
Nope, I am swimming tonight though – first time I am trying it as a workout!

Reply

I am so mad that I missed it. I swore up and down to my husband that we would be there, but he worked late, and by the time everything got finished, I didn’t go. Boooooooo on me!
I went to spinning this morning and I have a recovery run tonight!

Reply

AHHH YOU MISSED IT…you better make him take you tonight instead on a a date after your recovery run!

Reply

I can’t believe I missed fro yo day!!! I did watch the bachelor though!

Reply

I am actually planning on printing one of your spin workouts and doing that tonight! So, thanks in advance :P

Reply

You are so welcome, let me know how you like it!!

Reply

I went to get fro yo as my usual snack and was surprised by the FREE cup. The guy at the counter knows me and even punched my yogurt card. Which means my FREE yogurt earned me a FREE one tonight. Now, that is great customer service.

Reply

As I was driving down the main drag in my tiny town, I noticed something spectacular on the corner: THEY ARE BUILDING A FROYO PLACE!! I almost had to pull over because I couldn’t control my excitement. Now I won’t have to drive 45 minutes (one way) to satisfy my sweet tooth. I called my bff immediately but she just didn’t understand…I knew I should’ve emailed you first ;)

Reply

JENNY!!! This absolutely made my day! I am truly SO SO happy for you….yes, you should have emailed me first…this is a life changing event:) ENJOY!

Reply

hahaha you would. that is seriously the most epic froyo i’ve ever seen….i dunno how it stayed upright! don’t feel too bad, my froyo always comes out to more than $5…go big or go home right?

Reply

I had to eat it FAST!

Reply

Ahhh I didn’t even know it was national froyo day but I ate froyo!!!! Woohoo ;D
I did watch the Bachelor and I thought Casey S wasn’t going to last anyway! Oh well.
Fruit and chicken! So good.
I really want to take a spinning class, we’ll see!

Reply

Take a spinning class! I agree….she never talked or even interacted with him! You knew subconsciously that it was national froyo day:)

Reply

I have two things to say about last nights bachelor. The first, is Courtney is CRAZY, but I’m glad she’s still around because it makes for good TV.

The second being how awkward was that instructional make-out session with the girl who got sent home?! The worst part was when she ran her fingers through his hair and said ‘you have nice hair.’ i literally threw up in my hand, that hair has got to go.

Reply

I think they pay her to be extra crazy because it makes things so much more interesting! AHHHH CREEPY…..I could not believe her?!?! Why do they all tell him he has good hair? They are being enablers!

Reply

So sad that I missed out on National Fro-Yo day! But i will be teaching spin tomorrow and Thursday.
And unfortunately I don’t watch the Bachelor. It makes me want to hurl each time that I’ve tried.

Reply

It makes me want to hurl too but I can’t stop! Enjoy your spin classes this week!

Reply

There isn’t a yogurtland here yet…so I stick to Costco’s. I will need to bring in a picnic basket of toppings the next time we go ;)

Reply

i wish i had a fro-yo place close to me but i really dont!! I did have thin mint ice cream last night though, so i wont complain toooo much :)

my last salad was soooo good..it had crispy proscuitto, avocado, tomatoes, blue cheese crumbles…my mouth is watering thinking about it. I think i could eat that salad everyday and never get tired of it. Why do I keep forgetting how good avocado is on salads?!

maybe spinning this week…i did a class last friday..we shall see if i can get up at 5:20 am this friday again ;)

have a great day girl!!

Reply

boston needs a fro-yo place PRONTO.

Reply

I didn’t know about national froyo day!!! And I just found a froyo place a mile from home.

I’ve been craving a salad with crockpot salsa chicken on top (boneless chicken breasts topped with salsa in the crockpot; 2.5 hours on high or 4-5 hours on low, then shred; can mix in cream cheese in the last 5 minutes or leave out). Nom.

Reply

A mile away from home…that is perfect. UM…..I need to have your crockpot chicken salad, that sounds amazing!

Reply

So much free froyo! I love it. I didn’t celebrate, but I did have ice cream. Does that count?

Reply

That totally counts!!

Reply

I had some FroYo at the BEANPOT last night (hockey tourney for the 4 major Boston College Teams). Didn’t know it was the national froyo day either!

I am not a biker/spinner. I’ve been to one spin class and yes it was sweaty and awesome, but I don’t like the gym. I finally cancelled my membership after spending $20/month for a place I went once every two months if I was lucky.

Reply

I LOVE the bachelor. Best part about Mondays! Courtney is cray cray- she’s got to go. I was impressed with Casey B’s opening up about her eating disorder- that takes a lot on national TV. I felt bad for Casey S. I mean Ben is dating 6 girls at once- why does she have to go home because she left a guy behind that she can’t get over? He’s falling in love with more than one person, but she can’t? I think that’s dumb. Plus it’s annoying to me that the producers seem to now create some sort of background drama no matter what each season. Lame-o.

I am SO upset that I missed national fro yo day!! I had no idea and didn’t read your blog until it was too late. That would definitely be my favorite day!

Reply

I biked this past Sunday (I was nursing an injury and couldn’t go running) and my butt is STILL sore! Biking as a cross training exercise is no joke – it really does target those muscles that running doesn’t reach!

Reply

I did NOT know about national fro yo day:( Otherwise I would of went to Menchi’s stat! I haven’t watched the bachelor yet so SHHH:) I had a salad for dinner last night with chicken and this new dressing that was salsa ranch it was yummy! I spinned yesterday for an hour and then tomorrow I’ll do another hour, WOO HOO! Have a great day!

Reply

Every day is froyo day in my book!! Actually where I live there were NO froyo places which is tragic so my friend’s dad opened the first self serve froyo place a year ago. We are always there and he opened a second one. Now they are everywhere!! So exciting. No Yogurt Land but we have a Pink Berry.

Reply

ahh i love froyo! its SO expensive around here tho- like 56 cents an ounce or something crazy.

I plan on trying to stay on the bike today for 30 mins. i can run on a treadmill for hours yet i cant stay on a stationery bike for more than 10 mins without getting bored. why?!?

Reply

your fro yo tower amazes me! I wish my fro yo places gave away free fro yo, I would have gone to town!

I spun this morning and will spin on Thursday morning. I really need you to give my spin instructor some music tips, she must have missed the class on appropriate music to play for a spin class!

Reply

No more bachelor ben for me! I’ve discovered my love for The Voice and Smash so Ben got booted from the lineup :) Although fro-yo while watching would have been AWESOME!

Reply

I WISH I had known!! SO sad :( But I am glad you filled up for me and for you! :) Looks awesomely delicious!

Reply

I don’t think you follow me on instagram, but I went, and then ate it, alone, in the car, in the dark. It was glorious. There wasn’t a 3yo in sight to take ANY. I then proceeded to give my students a pop quiz to see if they had done their reading. (not scoring it, just grading it) but I’m not going to tell them that yet.

I had a CEASER salad. It was soooooooooo good.

Reply

That is some serious artistry on your fro yo cup! Sadly, I didn’t know of any fro yo places doing that, and I didn’t get home until 7pm last night, so no fro yo for me. I could have used it though, I had a very long day! I’ll have to make up for it this weekend!

Reply

that is the most intense froyo mountain EVER. jeeeealous!

Reply

After going to that very Yogurtland last Saturday night and seeing how crazy busy it was THEN without a deal for free fro yo, I thought about it being a free item in a college town and I knew that there was no way I could go yesterday. Not with my kids anyway. I would have waited in line, but my kids would have gone nutso. lol. I was bummed because I really do appreciate free fro yo. I have made fro yo cups look like that at Maverick – you don’t have to pay per ounce so I am going to get my money’s worth – and they have tried to charge me double or even triple because they are so ginormous. I always fight it. I think they are just hating on my mad skills. I am impressed with yours nonetheless and am glad you were able to partake.

I am at the rose ceremony on The Bachelor. I couldn’t finish it last night. My husband was requesting to watch a different show for some reason ;) But let’s talk about the scrapbook, cause really, WHO MAKES A SCRAPBOOK??!!

Reply

WAIT. I THOUGHT I was at the rose ceremony, but really I was at the ‘cocktail hour’ and I am currently watching Jamie give Ben detailed kissing instructions WHILE kissing him. This is so awkward. I am covering my eyes while watching. I am so embarrassed for her!

Reply

That is a serious masterpiece.

This is the first season I have watched my sister-in-law got me into it and I don’t really like her much anymore. When Blakely pulled out the scrap book I turned to my husband and said “Bunny Boiler, time for a restraining order” He didn’t get the Fatal Attraction reference…. These girls are 100% crazy. I put money on the final 2 being Casey and Courtney.

Reply

Look at THAT fro-yo!! Wow!
On my last salad: oil and vinegar. Boring. And then with tomatoes (I hate tomatoes) and Feta cheese (good one is almost like a dressing).

Reply

WHAAATTT??!?!? How in the world did I miss that? And how is that gonna be on a Monday? National Fro-yo day should always be on a Saturday so I have plenty of time to go two or three times during that day. I guess I will have to make up for it this weekend!
That salad that you had sounds amazing. The last one I had contained romaine, chicken, tomatoes, feta, sliced almonds and dried cranberries. Oh and sprouts. I love sprouts! Delish!

Reply

NATIONAL FRO YO DAY!!???!?! How did i not know about this! OH GEEZ :(
I taught spin this a.m. but that is it for the day!

Reply

I was so sad that I didn’t know it was national fro-yo day until almost 10 pm last night! However, I did receive a $20 gift card to my favorite frozen yogurt joint last night from a sweet friend! I guess I will HAVE to celebrate today (and maybe tomorrow too)!

Reply

What?!! How the heck did I miss National Fro Yo day?!! I will just have to celebrate today. :-)

I am thinking of doing spin Thursday night as active recovery from my marathon this past wknd (which was pretty brutal, windy and rainy, but still managed to finish sub 4-yay!!). Love me some spin class!

Reply

Courtney needs to GO.. it will be interesting to hear what Ben has to say once her true colors shine through to him. I couldn’t believeee the “kissing episode” (or lack there of) that Jamie attempted. She looked like a school girl.. poor girl, I bet she’ll regret that move when looking back.

Canada really needs to get some fro-yo because you’re pictures are killing me!

Reply

What! How did I miss that holiday! It’s going on my calendar for next year!! none of my fro yo facebook friends even told me about it!! how rude!! Although I guess I did have some at home… but that’s not the same as the soft serve. lol

Reply

I had “Free yogurt at Yogurtland 4-7pm” pop up on my outlook calendar yesterday right as I was leaving work, but seeing as I already had some in my freezer at home and I really didn’t want to brave the lines, I skipped it. Out of curiosity, how much per ounce is the yogurt at your Yogurtland? I live in LA and I think ours is more expensive, which would not be surprising but it is kind of sad.

As for The Bachelore, I have it Tivo’d. I hadn’t watched that show in like 8 years, but somehow I ended up watching the first episode this time around and am hooked!

Reply

I think it is 32 cents an ounce! How much is it in LA?!?! ENJOY your Tivo’d episode of the Bachelor!

Reply

I have to say that while I am impressed by many other things about you (like how speedy you are) that froyo cup was THE most impressive thing I have ever seen! Like EVER. YOU ARE MY HERO!!!

Reply

that froyo just rocked my world. OMG I need it!! PS I mentioned/tagged you in a post today!!

Reply

That is the funniest thing I have ever seen-Fro yo pic. E

Reply

YUMMY. YOGURT.

I’m spinning today! Not in a class but on my own at the gym. Wishmeluck!

Reply

How did I miss this HOLIDAY? I knew there was a valid reason I was craving fro-yo after my spinning class. Ugh! Tonight, I will celebrate a be-lated Fro-yo day! And, I’m quite proud of your engineering skills in maximizing the use of that tiny cup!

Creating a spinning profile for Thursday–channeling your creativity!!

Reply

I didn’t celebrate national fro-yo day. So wish I had though! I have a free coupon for Menchie’s so I’ll definitely be cashing in on that soon ;-) My favorite national food day is hands-down World Nutella Day. Nutella-stuffed french toast is the perfect way to celebrate!

I watched The Bachelor and wasn’t too surprised with who went home…none of those girls seemed to have a big connection with Ben. I was shocked that Casey S’s departure was because of a secret boyfriend..they way they showed previews I thought someone close to her had died!

Reply

Salt lake needs to get a Yogurtland ASAP! I need to visit the one in Ut county soon! In Phx, I was at the Yogurtland a few times a week :)

Reply

Janae, how in the WORLD did you carry that?!?!?! :)

Reply

Sadly, we don’t have any fro-yo places here. :( I missed such an important holiday!

I throw everything but the kitchen sink on my salads. Yesterday it was left over Brussels Sprouts and bbq lentils. Yummy in my tummy!

Reply

Hey Janea…I most definitely got fro-yo yesterday!!

Question: do you ever get ugly, red circles under your eyes when you run outside??

Reply

HEY LAUREN!! I haven’t experienced that thus far that I have noticed. Does this happen often?

Reply

Well, not super often…kinda comes and goes with no real rhyme or reason…I was just wondering if you had any experience with it since you are such a seasoned runner! I really admire your drive and passion for running!

Reply

Thank you so much Lauren! I am totally going to look into this for you!

Reply

We took all 5 kids to get free yogurt last night! We saw some huge towers o’ fro-yo, that’s for sure. It was a long line, but it moved fast and was SO worth it! I pretty much love any national food day that includes free stuff for me to eat.

Reply

Wow, look at the height on that fro yo, LOVE IT!

Reply

I love your yogurt – that is so great! I would totally do the same thing!

Reply

OH MY DAYS! THAT FROYO looks BOMB

Reply

Your fro-yo picture basically made my day!! Looks delish and I can only imagine how it tastes! You are quite talented. I eat “kitchen-sink” salads and use ketchup as my dressing!!
I taught 3 spin classes yesterday as well as 1 this morning! Yikes…along w/ bodypumps and bootcamps and running my pups!! Oh…the toughest of all w/outs….keeping these crazy high schoolers under control in the lab! Happy Birthday WEEK!

Reply

3 in one day…holy cow, you really are my hero!! I don’t know how you do it all…high schoolers make me so tired ha. THANK you for the happy birthday WEEK and I am so going to try ketchup for my dressing!

Reply

wow! wow! wow!!

Reply

Hi Janae!

I love your blog, but have never commented before! I just had to tell you not to feel bad about the $6 fro-yo. In Kentucky, Orange Leaf is the fro-yo hot spot (a lot like a Yogurtland) and I swear, the last time I was there, a man had $18 worth of yogurt and toppings in his cup.

Have a great evening!

Reply

AHHH TIna, thank you so so much for commenting. Kentucky!?!? My bro lives in Louisville…is that near you?!? 18 dollars…you just made me feel SO MUCH BETTER! Thank you!

Reply

I am in Lexington – about an hour away from Louisville! Do you ever visit? I love Louisville! And yes, we were all shocked by the $18 yogurt! It was the most massive fro-yo structure the world has ever seen. The employees clapped for him!

Reply

By the way – I totally geeked out that you responded to me. My husband thinks I am really cool now :)

Reply

That is so cool! I want his autograph! I am going to try to come out in April….can we go for froyo?!?

Reply

Yes, yes, yes! Would love to!

Reply

I absolutely love that dish of frozen yogurt! Did Pinkberry have free frozen yogurt too? I don’t remember seeing anything about that holiday out here in Boston.

Reply

I am totally bummed that A) I had no clue it was National Fro-Yo Day and B) that the spoilers all say that he chooses Courtney… AWFUL news!

Reply

Bahahahaha, that is the best fro yo photo ever! I’m sad I didn’t take advantage of free fro yo day!

Reply

Lol! I cannot believe how much you piled on! Seriously defied gravity on that one! I wouldn’t have believed it without the picture! :)

I can’t watch shows like the Bachelor; the cattiness drives me bonkers!

The last salad we had was a Tex-Mex, of sorts: 3 types of beans, corn, olives, zucchini, garbanzo beans, lettuce. We added a bit of Garlic Gold Olive oil & dressing.

I’ve never tried spinning yet. I work out at home now but before, all the yelling from the instructor that I could hear outside the class was intimdating. :)
