I couldn’t get home fast enough after work yesterday. I had two things on my mind: cereal and The Bachelor. It is actually quite amazing how I manage to get so many finger prints on my computer screen….one of Billy’s favorite things that I do….also eating right next to my computer, he really loves that.
Always add extra milk to your bowl of cereal so that you can keep adding more and more cereal. I had Honey Bunches of Oats (aka the cheap brand called ‘Honey Blenders’) and granola mixture. All I have to say about The Bachelor is that after he kicked off that girl I liked her even more, such a sweetheart.
A few hours later I managed to burn my dinner. Don’t worry though, I still managed to eat the insides out:
The other side of that piece of bread is completely black.
My second sandwich of cheddar cheese and apple slices turned out much better. Add jam to your grilled cheese. Believe me on this one. PS apple slices and cottage cheese are almost as good as grapes and cottage cheese.
Bad picture of my fudge popsicle but I was trying so desperately to make it look like the popsicle was actually Billy’s body. He wasn’t amused.
This is where the night got interesting. (yes, my knuckle is very creepy looking).
I went to Turbo Kick last night. I came home and told Billy that he will be a single man every Wednesday night at 7:30. I am now hooked onto something else…this is getting out of control. I realized tonight I like dancing around kicking/punching the air and booty shaking. Don’t worry, I stood in the back so that no one had to see me. It didn’t even feel like a workout, I was too busy playing…except for the sumo burpees, that definitely felt like I was working out.
Ever tried kickboxing? What did you think of it?
Do you add anything to your grilled cheese sandwiches or are you a purist?
What cereal do you have in your house right now? Do you have any granola?
How have you been getting your cross-training in lately?
Ohh a grilled cheese sounds so good right about now! I love adding omelets or turkey for an added protein boost! Arc training is my cross-training go to these days…it kinda feels like running but I am also being kind to my joints…win!
I love kickboxing!
Try grilled cheese with black beans, chopped onions, and peppers pressed in between! Delicious!
I loooove the Turbo workouts!!!! So much fun!!!
I really do not like kickboxing, can’t put my finger on it – it’s neither good cardio workout for me nor strength…Just jumping around and not sweating enough…I love hardcore;-) for cross training i do a lot of circuit body weight workouts – I just create my own- 15 min and I am in a world of sweat! That usually includes jumping rope, burpees, pushups, jumping squats, jumping ANYTHING! 45 min and I feel 100% better than after any type of class.
Turbo kick sounds like fun! I am afraid I would end up injured;-) I do watch the class through the window while running on the TM–it does look like fun! But it looks even funnier watching people dance/kick around when i can’t hear the music;-) (I mean that in a nice way)
I am horrible at getting cross training in while training for a marathon, I am just too exhausted. But I stretch or do yoga daily.
I love watching classes while I run too! My favorite is watching zumba because then I start dancing while I run! Hey…stretching or yoga daily during marathon training is absolutely awesome!
kari @ Running Ricig
We like to add tomato or tomato and pesto to our grilled cheeses. We’re fancy like that :).
I haven’t really been cross training at all, unless walking the dog counts. I do that twice a day.
The only cereal we have are the off-brand apple cinnamon cheerios. They are amazingly delicious, though.
Claire @ Live and Love to Eat
I’m typically a grilled cheese purist, but it depends – if it’s alongside tomato soup, it can’t be adulterated!
Josie @ happycorredora.com
I’ve never tried kickboxing but it sounds like fun- good way to burn energy and turn around a grumpy mood.
I like my cheese sandwiches either pure, or with tomato and avocado.
I always have cereal in the house! Right now- fitness fruits and granola.
In High School I took a class called Cardio Kickboxing, I had lots of fun in it but haven’t taken anything like since.
Apples, pears are awesome in grilled cheese or avocado, spinach, tomato, but my favorite combo is leftover turkey from the holidays, cranberry sauce, avocado, apple and spicy havarti cheese.
My husband loves cereal, while I only eat Multigrain Cheerios in my yogurt and smoothie bowls but we currently have: Mini Wheats, Vector, Multigrain Cheerios, and Shreddies.
Sure have! I cross train 3 nights a week with the elliptical and swimming and run twice. Since I am not racing this year I am running less for a bit of a break.
You should try it again! OH YES, your leftover grilled cheese combo is incredible! 3 nights a week..that is AWESOME!
Brittany @ GOtheXtraMile
I love jam on my egg and cheese sandwiches so I’m sure it’s great with grilled cheese too!
I used to be obsessed with kickboxing. It’s such a fun workout and it’s really good.
I have cinnamon puffins and peanut butter panda balls or whatever, I’m out of granola!
I’ve been doing Bikram yoga for cross training so I’m fresh for my half:)
Jen Correa @ Mom's Gotta Run
I also add too much milk and keep adding cereal until the mil is gone. I would hate to waste milk. ;) Also I absolutely LOVE grilled cheese but i gave up bread for Lent. WAAAAA!!!
Turbo kick sounds hard but fantastic. I love the feeling of being so tired but having to keep going because you’re in a class and… you’re not about to quit in front of all those people.
I like to make buffalo chicken grilled cheese. Add a little bit of shredded chicken with some hot sauce! so good.
Josie @ happycorredora.com
That actually sounds delicious!
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes
I wish I had granola! :)
Isn’t cereal the best? I always put extra milk in, one bowl just simply isn’t enough. And that grilled cheese looks so good!
love kickboxing…well, let me re-state. it depends on the instructor but with a good one, the workout is amazing and fun.
love my grilled cheese sandwiches…just bread, butter and cheese.
the hubs loves honey bunches of o’s. i used to love cereal but for some reason, now when i eat a bowl, my tummy does not care for it.
getting my training in is a must.
I love kickboxing!!! I take a kick boxing/dance/cardio class about once a week and it leaves me sweaty but very happy! Have fun getting hooked on it!
I like to get all fancy with my grilled cheese… like adding different types of cheeses, pepperjack is my fav. Also adding veggies like spinach and tomato slices bump up the fancy factor. Yum! Currently, I cant keep my hands out of the Kashi Go Lean Crisp box! ITS SOOO GOOD!
I do a lot of DVDs for cross training, this week its been Kelley Coffee Meyer and good ole Jillian!
Jamie @ Don't Forget the Cinnamon
Haha I used to go round and round the cereal cycle: too much milk? add more cereal! extra cereal? add more milk. I’d do that about 8 times until my bowl was perfectly empty!!
And I have a grilled cheese combo for you: cheddar, apple slices, maple syrup, and hot sauce! Or, pesto, cranberry sauce, apples, and spinach.
Grill cheese with any bread and american or cheddar cheese and dip it into maple syrup YUM!
I took a kickboxing class once and really really wish I had a gym nearby that offered it; I enjoyed it so much!
Your post, The Best Calorie Burn What Worked for Me | The Best Calorie Burn Eat More, Weigh Less, is really well writetn and insightful. Glad I found your website, warm regards from Blaine!
I love turbokick! I took it at my college last semester and fell in love. Now I take kickboxing every week at my gym and look forward to it all week ;)
Britt @ Chicago Runner Girl
I’ve been cross training like a machine lately incorporating a lot of plyometrics into my workouts. Let’s just hope that JUMPING + BOUNDING + A WIDE VARIETY OF SPEED WORK= ONE SUPER FAST RUNNING LADY
MACHINE! So far I’m thinking it working as my speed workouts are feeling easier and I’m having to up the intensity.
P.S. I love having frosted flakes for a snack where I keep adding cereal to the bowl to make the milk sweeter. Yummo :)
i always put more milk in my cereal bowl too!
and youre having me crave a grilled cheese sandwich – i sometimes like it with sliced tomato, but definitely dipped in tomato soup!
I’ve always been a grilled cheese purist, but I think I’m going to have to try your jam tip!
natalie @ southern fit foodie
I love kickboxing! It’s so much fun and a great workout! It’s like free anger management classes haha.
I love adding some laughing cow cheese to my grilled cheese (yes, double cheese) or bacon. I promise it’s good! I like dipping it in ketchup or in something sweet like jam. I’m pretty sure I have been known to put peanut butter on my grilled cheese as well. Yes, pb goes on everything.
I have special k protein plus, some sort of organic honey bunches of oats, cinnamon puffins, and love grown granola. I have two kinds right now – cinnamon almond crunch and sweet cranberry pecan. They are SO good!
I have tried kickboxing and it makes me feel like the most uncoordinate person in the world which I probably am.
I am a grilled cheese originalist although putting jam on it doesnt sound too bad. I’m thinking a grilled cheese on cinnamon raisin bread might be tasty.
I took a class on tuesday and I am still sore, love it!
Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries
i LOVE kickboxing! it’s definitely one of my favorite aerobic/cardio workouts. i took a kickboxing class in college for a health credit which is where i first got hooked on it. turbo kick is way fun!
ohh i am going to a certification for turbokick this weekend. i have actually never taken a class though eeek
Lauren, that is so so exciting! What made you want to get the certification if you never tried a class?
Oh that would be the part of me that doesn’t think things through and just does it!!! I already teach kickboxing, and i just needed to step it up a knotch!
That is so so cool! I want to come to your classes! What is the difference between turbo and kickboxing….is turbo more aerobic?
they are both aerobic. Turbo just has a little dancing added in and the songs are chorographed, kickboxing is just whatever punches and kicks i feel like throwing lol! Turbo is a lttle faster paced i think too.
That is so cool! Thanks Lauren! I should try out kick boxing too although I really did love the little dancing parts:)
Just an update: turbo is wayyyy more fun than plain old kickboxing haha!! I love the booty shaking parts too ( i just feel sorry for my class having to watch my booty shake :/)
I am a purest when it comes to grilled cheese, and my cottage cheese..no fruit for me on either!
We have too much cereal in our house right now. Please come over and eat it.
Does foam rolling count? I swear my arms get quite a workout in when I do it.
Samantha @ Health, Happiness &Skinny Jeans
I love kickboxing!! When I taught last night’s bootcamp I made it very kickboxing inspired and it was so much fun!!
I honestly was really happy he sent Kasey B home because she’s too good for him! I seriously cannot stand Ben and I loveddd Kasey B so for her own good, it was best she went home, she can do SO much better!
I have boxes and boxes of peanut butter cheerios at home. LOVE them.
Girl, I am Turbo Kick certified!! LOVE. I certified in several kick varieties as well as most of the Les Mills programs (BodyPump, step, attack, kick, CX, etc).
No grill cheese for me and the only cereal I have is oatmeal..does that count?! Also, I’ve never had granola!!
Andrea @ Andrea Out Loud!
My cereals right now are raisin bran crunch and honey nut cheerios YUM!
i have tried kickboxing twice and i didnt really care for the instructor so i didnt go back but i would love to try it again!
my grilled cheese is typically cheese only! sometimes a piece of turkey if im feelin wild ;)
ive never tried kickboxing besides the billy blanks dvds (do they count?) but i have a bunch of friends that love it!
grilled cheese + pepperoni = amazingness. try it, i promise you wont be disappointed. kev also got me into putting light mayo on the bread instead of butter…sooooo goood!!
we have crunch berries in the house right now, lol. but those of Kev’s…its been a while since i bought a box of cereal, i’m super into oatmeal during cold weather. I love Kashi go lean crunch, cinnamon toast crunch, and honey nut cheerios to death though :)
todays crosstraining was arctrainer and stairmaster. i crosstrain 2 days a week, running more then 4 days a week makes my body all wonky…i try not to do more then that too often.
Cat @ Breakfast to Bed
I love BodyCombat which is similar and it makes me feel like a whole lotta kick butt woman!
I’ve never done kicking boxing – I’d fall on my butt.
I love grilled cheese of all shapes and forms. YUM!
I have recently started CRAVING cross-training. I have no clue what’s wrong with me.
How many tmes have I mentioned my love for turbo kick?? I just got back from it a half hour ago :) Its my choice for cardio on my days off from running.
I do not liked grilled cheese. Can we still be friends??
I have some Love Grown granola in my pantry right now…that I plan on putting in some greek yogurt later.
I am meeting up with my friends later today to head down to St George for the weekend. I am not running the half, but I do plan on running while down there. Perhaps I will run into you at Krave (their local fro yo joint – the closest Yogurtland is in Vegas. Sniff.)
YES YES YES LETS MEET UP!! That makes my day! I will forgive you about the whole grilled cheese thing:) Your love for turbo kick rubbed off on me…thank you:)
I am so glad you can look past my flaws ;) I am not sure when you will be there, but I will be there today – Sunday so shoot me an email if you really want to meet up sometime and hopefully we could work something out. My running idol + fro yo = eek!
MEGAN!!! Can you meet on Saturday at 3 at Golden Swirl?!?! I want to put a runner get together together!
I love turbo kick! I go every Wednesday at lunch! My instructor was out for six months on maternity leave and I felt like I was going through withdrawals.
BAHAHAH That would feel like withdrawals…is she back yet?!?! That is awesome you can go at lunch!
She just got back two weeks ago! And lunchtime classes are fantastic.
I’m a grilled cheese fanatic! But I’m not adventurous with what I put on it…I’m boring and stick to the classic grilled cheese and tomato :) yum. Paired with some soup- it’s the perfect combo! I have tried kick boxing!! Super fun. You’re right, it doesn’t feel like a workout but it sure is one! I for sure walked out of the class breaking a sweat.
Ahh cereal! <3 Right now I'm a Special K Fruit & Yogurt fan. So so so yummy. And we have Back To Nature's Vanilla Almond Agave granola from Whole Foods. It is TO DIE FOR. Absolutely delicious with and without milk! :)
Super sharp cheddar and thinly sliced apples on the grilled cheese! SO GOOD!
I like kickboxing, but lack coordination, which I’m sure is comical for the others in the class. Also, the class at my gym is usually pretty crowded, so you spend a lot of time actually ducking kick and punches from the person in front of you who does not realize you are there.
The only cereal we have right now is Berry Kix, which I bought for my 3 year old, but we all know who ends up eating it ….
Katie @ msfitrunner
I took kickboxing in High School and loved it! I add hummus to my grilled cheese sometimes, but that jam looks good! My cross training is usually the stairmaster – somehow I never get bored of that thing. But I do intervals on it with strength training, so it keeps it fresh. Have a great day!
I LOVE kicking! Just ask my husband, I am always pulling out kick boxing moves just for fun. But I totally fell asleep at 7:30 last night, don’t ask me why! And what the heck Ben?!?! Kacie B’s family totally ruined it for her!
I have never done kickboxing before, but have always wanted to try it out…is it worth it?? I love adding tomatoes, spinach and onions to my grilled cheese…but am still trying to figure out a way to prevent my bread from getting soggy!
It is totally worth it. I really did love it so much and can’t wait to go back. YUM…your combo sounds amazing! Maybe toast the bread first?
I watched an Episode of Sandwich King on the Food Network where Jeff Mauro added caramelized onions to a grilled cheese sandwich… so that is my current inspiration on grilled cheese accompaniments!
My husband goes through cereal like water, so we always have a ton of it in the house. We currently have three different types of Special K, Quaker Oatmeal Squares, Multigrain Cheerios, and some generic rice krispie cereal left over from making rice krispie treats awhile back.
Never tried kickboxing, but I have tried cardioboxing and enjoyed it! Boxing really works your back muscles! It’s a nice way to balance out all the lower-body exercises.
HOLY COW, I will be adding caramelized onions, that sounds so good! Oatmeal Squares are my favorite! My shoulders and back are super sore from the class yesterday!
I kickboxed for years. Years! Now I just don’t have the time to fit it in but I do miss it. It is so fun and a great workout.
I add ham and tomatoes to my grilled cheese. Or sometimes BACON!
Monday was the first episode of the season that I watched (and sadly I watched because the boyfriend is addicted and we were ahnigng out). I liked that girl too, but I’m not so sure on the sweetheart part, she kinda swore like a sailor, which is awesome!
Turbo Kick @ Golds on Wednesday nights!? that class keeps me alive throughout the week!! I never feel totally worked out after, but i feel like i have a whole new booty-shaking confidence and i’m ready to take on anything the world throws at me! Its like an awesome reset button in the middle of the week. Gets me reset and refocused. I love it! And it never hurts to learn a few new moves ;)
I went to the BYU one!!! Which Golds Gym? Do you go every Wednesday night? Lets go together…what time?
Liz @ Tip Top Shape
I freaking love kick boxing. I started doing it right around the start of my Buffy obsession (seemed to make sense that they went together) and am now in love. It is such a bad ass workout!
I think kick boxing is pretty fun. I used to take a class every week, but I haven’t done it in a few years.
I love to put avocado on my grilled cheese sandwiches. Um, and on most anything else. :-)
Good call on the avocado, I am pretty sure that avocado really does taste amazing on EVERYTHING!
Love kickboxing! It kicks my butt! Haha, sorry I couldn’t resist (I’m such a dork) Yes, I love that it gets my heart pumping and my body moving using all sorts of muscles. I used to be a plain grilled cheese kind of girl. Then I tried adding Pesto and Tomatoes to it and I’m in heaven! I’ve also added jalepeno’s and to it and that is just as good, especially when looking for a little kick. Right now we have Life Cereal (Adam’s favorite). The kids like Fruit Loops or Coccoa Puffs. They don’t eat it often, because they are like there Mommy and prefer hot breakfasts. I have been doing Jillian Michaels for Cross Training.
BAHAHAH I am glad you didn’t resist! I wish we could go to kickboxing together. Okay, your pesto and tomatoes combo sounds incredible. I must try it! Mmmm I love fruit loops too:) Have an amazing day gorgeous Tabaitha!
I love kickboxing, I teach it at least 2 times a week….. :) It’s something I’ve stuck with for years….other than running….everything else I’ve given up on. :)
That is so so cool! WOW!! I wish I could come to your class.
anytime you are in Appleton, WI let me know. :)
I tried kickboxing a long time ago! I just love total body conditioning and yoga classes better!
I have NO cereal… it’s super sad.
Sabrina @ Radioactive Runner
jam on a grilled cheese? hmm.. i’ll have to try that one. I love adding tomato before grilling it.. soo good!
Jaeme + Randy
I used to go to kickboxing with my sister every week. It was so much fun and such a good workout! The teacher was really good at first but then a bunch of guys started coming to the class and she would slack off and flirt with them so the class stopped being as good. That is when we stopped going. We were pretty annoyed by it. I definitely miss it though!
Grilled cheese and ham….mmmm yummy.
Alyssa @ Life of bLyss
I’ve actually tried kickboxing, but I felt like I wasn’t getting that great of a workout! I need to give it a shot at mah new gym and see if it’s a little harder. ;) I’m antsy to get back to regular workouts!
Yummy…now I’m hungry for a Grilled Cheese sandwich :) You should try a grilled PB&J sandwich – it’s a bit messy but sooo good.
My dad used to make those and they are the best things in the world. He would add bananas too. Thanks for the reminder, I need to have one of those again!
Angela @ Happy Fit Mama
I’ve done kickboxing in the past. It makes you feel bad ass!
I love putting spinach, tomatoes and pickles on my grilled cheese! It drives my hubby crazy. He’s a total purist! My kids love ’em that way now, too. We’re taking over the house with our veggies. Muuha!
Mmmmmm grilled cheese. I usually add spinach and garlic. Love it!
I teach Zumba, so that helps to mix it up and shake my thang off ;)
Mustard is pretty amazing in a grilled cheese, and avocado.. mmm. I started swimming again a few weeks ago- but have been slacking a bit between teaching classes and Livefit trainer its hard to drag myself out to the pool when every single part of my body is hurting.. I actually had a lot of fun doing zumba too :)
I tried the Les Mills Body Combat and loved it. I agree that it doesn’t feel like working out.
I like a little pizzaz on my grilled cheese. My favorite add ins are onion marmalade, tomatoes, or bacon.
We have an amazing pecan maple granola, high fiber cereal from TJ’s, and Rice Chex left over from making puppy chow/muddie buddies over Valentine’s Day.
Deirdre @ Oh Well Whatever
If you like that workout you have got to find a gym that offers “real” boxing/kick-boxing classes – with heavy bags. It is so much fun you will love it I promise. And that knuckle of yours will look super hard core when it gets bruised and bloody from punching the heck out of the bag. Trust me, try it.
I always put a slice of tomato or a roasted red pepper on my grilled cheese. I need to try jam on a grilled cheese, sounds super interesting!
Rice Chex and Rice Krispies (boring gluten free stuff)
I discovered the ArcTrainer at the gym is SO AWESOME for my cross training. I HATE the elliptical but the Arc Trainer has absolutely no impact for my hips/femurs (still paranoid about stress fractures) and I always sweat an insane amount on the thing so I feel like it’s getting the job done. Have you ever tried one? I always thought they were a bit intimidating until a friend told me she loved it so I finally tried. Obsessed! Bye bye elliptical!
kick-boxing is really hard! a great workout. my favorite cross-training is Pilates on the megaformer and spin classes.
Mary @ food and fun on the run
My calves are always sore after kickboxing. I think i bop around too much! I am loving Kashi cinnamon hearts right now. So stinking good!
This makes me feel better because my calves are incredibly sore today! I am going to have to try these kasha cinnamon hearts…yum!
I love me some Turbokick/Kickboxing! It makes me feel all powerful like I can whoop up on somebody. Okay not really but it’s fun.
My fave type of cross training is dancing. I like being able to let loose. I love workouts that don’t really feel like a work out, more like you’re at the club :-)
Grilled cheese sounds so yummy! I found this buffalo chicken grilled cheese recipe on Pinterest I’ve been meaning to try. Never had grilled cheese w/ jam will have to try it!
Laura @ LauraLikesDesign
Are those the “Swiss Miss” fudge bars? If so, they are SO good! We have those in our freezer right now!
I’ve done kickboxing twice and LOVE it! It’s fun to switch things up with workouts!
I agree–jelly on grilled cheese is super good! Especially raspberry or strawberry! I could go for that for dinner!
We have 7 boxes of cereal right now because we are cereal fiends. Andy and I usually each eat a bowl of it before bed.
I’ve been doing a lot of elliptical intervals and spin classes lately!
I love turbo kick!!! Chalene Johnson (the creator of turbo kick) teaches in Irvine! When you are in CA this summer you will have to take a “live” class with her! She is amazing!!!! Today was my 1st day back to turbo kick since my hip surgery!! I was the granny in back but was so happy to be there!! I am sick of the recumbent bike! (Even though it is a great place to get caught up on your blog!!!)
ARE YOU SERIOUS!?!? YES PLEASE can we take her class together this summer!?! I am so happy you were able to get back to turbo kick!! Hope you are having an amazing day!
Yes! We will take her class together!!!
Janae….grilled cheese with strawberry jam….hell yeah…i also love egg sammies with cheese and st. jam. i promise…awesome. ok, so, crosstraining, i have jsut gotten hooked….I do TRX twice a week and a bootcamp/body blast deal 2 days a week….then there’s running…4 days a week…you ever feel like you don’t get enough rest? how often do you tak a complete rest day? i’m jsut sort of struggling with aways being sore/tired but don’t want to give anything up yet….i’m hoping my muscles will adjust : ) oh, Peanut butter multigrain cheerios…try em…or better yet, don’t…you won’t be able to stop.
HEY YOU!!! Seriously, egg sandwiches with am are amazing. I take one full rest day a week and sometimes more. That is definitely a sign of overtraining if you are always sore and tired and I think you should back off a little so that you don’t get injured and have to back off all together:) YUM…I have to try the PB cheerios. Hope you are having an amazing day Kathryn!
Jenn @ RunItMyWay
Mmmm, grilled cheese is the best! I don’t know if I’m brave enough to try jam on it :-P but I love using different kinds of cheese! Right now I’m loving herbed havarti on grilled cheese.
Abby @ Abz 'n' Oats
I like putting hummus on my grilled cheese sandwiches! :) So tasty!
Do i have cereal in my house? Such a silly question :-) What cereal don’t I have in my house is more like it. I’m totally loving the new Honey Nut flavor of Oatmeal Squares. Do it!! Love them. Also, staples are Cinnamon Life, Honey Nut Cheerios, and right now i’m channeling my inner child by eating the new Cinnabon cereal and the Marshmellow Pebbles…oh yes.
My wife makes me super awesome pepper jack grilled cheese sammies with bacon and spicy ranch on honey wheat bread. Super delish! It’s cold here in MN and I’m super sick of the treadmill so I’ve been doing a lot of elliptical workouts and yoga classes to mix it up and keep it fresh! Good luck on your upcoming race, you’re going to kill it! :)
I looooooooved the free kickboxing classes when I was in college, oh, so long ago nowwwwwww…hahaha.
