Almost everyone was excited about my family birthday party except for the one that decided to take a nap on the floor and cover her face with a coat. Party pooper.
When my mom asked me what I wanted for dinner I came up with a very detailed list of what everyone was in charge of.
My aunt was to bring a bowl (that could fit my nieces) of salad, ranch and homemade croutons (I am not demanding at all).
My grandma was in charge of the fruit, my sis in charge of the french bread (because I know she would add the right amount of garlic on it…20 cloves) and my mom’s famous lasagna. You can see last year that I requested the exact same cheesy/noodle/tomato happiness and I have requested this same dish every year that I have been able to eat solid foods.
It was my Dad’s bday party too! One of my favorite things is that my Dad and I have shared our birthdays every year. He turned 60 this year wahooooo and got a Kindle Fire and hasn’t looked away from the screen for the last 10 hours…Mom, he likes it:)
Billy and I were in charge of dessert. Funfetti. 4 layers. 2 boxes of mix, 2 cans of frosting and one jar of sprinkles. You cannot say that funfetti is not the best cake in the world and next year we are going to go for a 6 layer cake.
Looks like I will be eating Subway and chocolate covered cinnamon bears for the rest of the week. It also looks like I won ‘The Run Across America’ (artwork done by my nephew) which is kind of a big accomplishment.
What better way to start your bday morning than with a run, followed by a fun day at school and lots of Billy time after school. PS today is the last day you will have to hear anything more about my birthday, I promise.

I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE birthdays! I start reminding people about my birthday at least 4 months out. My friends threw me a surprise party for my 16th birthday…but it took me about 10 minutes to actually understand what was going on.

When I was in high school I was blind folded and taken to a room full of people who surprised me for my birthday. I, like you, have also tried to throw surprise birthday parties but something always happens so they never turn out. My best birthday gift was my garmin watch! I feel really bad re-gifting items, so usually I just keep them in my closet for a long time and then finally give it to the Goodwill. My birthday was the last weekend of January and instead of cake we had cookies and home made ice cream. AMAZING! Hope your birthday celebrations continue to make you smile!

My mom had a surprise birthday party for my 16th birthday. My birthday was during exam week and everyone had to study for exams so it was an “after school snack surprise party.” I walked in the door from school, crying because I was stressed about exams and mad about studying on my birthday, and from behind the counter jumped 10 of my friends :) We had lots of snacks and cake and presents for a few hours before studying the night away. It was very unconventional, but fun and thoughtful!

Sorta surprised birthday. We were snowboarding in Utah and I wanted to stay for the wine tasting going on in the lobby and my husband insisted we go back to our room to check on his mom and the kids (I’m a SAHM so I try to stay away as long as possible when the opportunity arises). Back at the room waiting for me was cake and birthday hugs and kisses from my kids and mother in law! It was awesome and I did get wine later with dinner :D

My husband and best friend tried to throw me a surprise 30th birthday party, but I found about it, so I wasn’t really surprised. I have thrown a couple and been pretty successful. I love surprises, so hopefully there could be a successful surprise party in my future. The best birthday gift I ever received had to be a book Adam made me for my 28th birthday. It was my first birthday to celebrate away from family, and it was hard. He made a book that was bound and everything of 100 reasons why he loves me. It was the sweetest thing and yet so simple. The weirdest gift I ever received was a pocket knife from my grandpa. My sister and I were his first granddaughters and he wasn’t really sure what to get little girls. So when I turned 3, I was given a pocket knife. My mom took it away immediately when I decided that I would sharpen a pencil with it. I’ve never regifted a birthday present, but I have others, especially for white elephant parties. I would request German Chocolate Bread Pudding. I first had this on our 5 year anniversary last year and have been hooked since.

My hubby threw me a surprise 25th Birthday and a surprise 30th birthday. I dont think I will be getting a surprise for 33 in a few months! I have thrown my parents a surprise party (they were shocked!), my bro a surprise party and this year I am doing one for my hubby and my sister! I am so excited I can hardly contain myself! :)

okay, did you know that we’re the same person? because we totally are.
1. my dad and i have ALWAYS shared a birthday party, too!! his bday’s just 2 weeks before mine, and we always celebrate what we call the “june birthdays” in my family, cus both my grandma and my great grandma were also june babies. :) plus, my dad’s turning 60 this year, too!!
2. funfetti is THE best cake ever. period. my word, that cake is incredible looking!
i have indeed been thrown a surprise party, for my 21st! it was amazing, and of course i cried. :) i’ve also tried throwing ones, but they always find out. guess i’m just not sly enough. ;)

happy birthday!!! i am a little disappointed you chose the sprinkle frosting instead of the actual party chip frosting. sprinkles=4 times less delicious than party chip. you should probably extend your b-day one more day so you can have the right funfetti cake :)

I am not much of a cake person. I usually request ice cream. Or an ice cream cake (but instead of cake, but brownies on the bottom – much better).
My husband threw me a surprise party a few years ago and to say I was surprised was an understatement. I believe someone said, ‘Wow. This is the 1st time I have seen you speechless’. I am a very clean person, but I would have definitely deep cleaned my house and what not if I had known 50 people would have been there!

It was a lot of fun but I figured out about the party before and had to pretend I didn’t know so my mom could be proud of herself for being “sneaky” and tricking me. Haha.. I think I like knowing about the parties better! That way I get to pick my cake, which would definitely be Italian Cream cake. With any type of chocolate cake in close second :)

My sister and mom threw me a surprise 30th birthday last year (hubby was out of town). I threw a surprise party for the hubby’s 26th birthday, the year before we were married. I think surprises equal too much pressure though.

That cake looks soooo good…I used to love making funfetti cakes in college but you must have it with the rainbow chip frosting! That’s what I would request for my birthday…or carrot cake OR coconut cake.

Happy Birthday janae! My birthday is Wed and I know what you mean about celebrating the entire week. I usually try for the entire month. I moved away from my hometown 3 years ago for my job and it has not been the same. I still try to spoil myself even though my friends can’t be here.
Cake? My favorite is Chocolate cake and chocolate frosting or a DQ cake. YUM! I will be running on my bday and I thought about skipping it but I am running my first half marathon at Disney on the 26th so I have to be good. My favorite birthday memory is going to the TODAY Show in NYC last year to celebrate my 30th and eating at Serendipity. It was awesome! Surprise parties are great!
