My new running love and bfast on the floor.

I don’t know what I did right in my life yesterday and how I deserved such an amazing blessing but when we got the mail there were THREE running magazines waiting for me: the January and February Runner’s World and the February Running Times.

I guess I could have left at least one for Billy to read first but I didn’t want him to spoil anything for me or bend the pages.  Good thing he is okay with reading them after they have chocolate and peanut butter smudges on them from my fingers.  Let’s be honest here…..eating and reading/watching TV at the same time was created for our happiness (just like running and eating easily digested carbs ((candy)) at the same time were).

I know, I know it seems as though I am kind of obsessed with elite runners…..well, it is true, I am.  I could read and learn about them all day long.  Who is sticking out to me now?  A girl named Jen Houck.

This girl wasn’t born crazy fast.  She went from a 5:58 mile PR as a senior in high school (I am not saying that is slow at all, I am just pointing out how much she improved) to a marathon with faster mile splits than her high school PR.  I think she has worked her butt off to get what she wants and has become crazy fast because of that.  Her first marathon was a 2:47:42 and less than two years later she ran a 2:33:00.  CRAZY!  Since I wasn’t a runner in high school or college it gives me more hope that I will get that marathon time of mine down through hard work and dedication.

Her favorite post race treat are brownies, I knew I liked her for a reason.

Since the BIL is sleeping on our couch, I didn’t want to wake him up this morning with my magic bullet loudness.  I decided to bring it to school (cord not long enough to reach table) and it is one of the best decisions I have ever made.  You wouldn’t believe the randomness that I have been blending up all day.  Baked potato with ketchup for lunch?  Just throw it in the blender and bada bing bada boom, you have the perfect meal for a still burning sore throat.  Below is a picture of my bfast smoothie, not my baked potato.

I know you have all seen this picture a trillion times by now of Shalane, Desi and Kara but it gives me goosebumps and a warm heart every time I see it.

What magazines are you currently subscribed to?

What is your all time favorite post race treat?

-Pizza and ice cream.  Salty, hot french fries (from 5 Guys of course) come in a close second.

Do you have a magic bullet?

-Billy used to make fun of my love of the magic bullet and then he tried it and loved it.  What’s not to love about using the same cup to drink your smoothie that you used to blend it up?

Ive only done 1 race, but my fav post-run treat is a bagel sandwich or a huge bowl of oatmeal with bananas, PB and jam!

no magic bullet for me, just a crappy blender that breaks all the time!

Reply

I think you need to get a magic bullet…you will love it. Bagel sandwiches are my favorite…I need one now!

I am a huge fan of US Weekly. I love gossip mags because to me they’re the complete opposite of my life and I love just zoning out and relaxing and reading all about other people’s lives! haha

Reply

I think that is why I love reality tv too because it is the opposite of my non-dram life ha. I love US Weekly too! Have a great night Ali!

Reply

I’m only subscribed to Oxygen at the moment!! Post race hmmmm ICE CREAM!! Or chips. I wouldn’t turn down either :) I have the magic bullet too and love it. Such easy clean up! xoxo

I’ve only ran a couple of races, but I crave breakfast food afterwards. I love Eggs Benedict, waffles with peanut butter, or bagels and cream cheese.

I don’t have a Magic Bullet but I have a pretty awesome blender.

I want a Magic Bullet SO bad!! And that picture keeps giving me chills too!

I don’t subscribe to any magazines myself but I take all my bf’s mom’s and sister’s gossip mags, Fitness and Self after they read them :)

We are currently on our second magic bullet, just bought it last week cause our wedding one died on us. I love it. I hate chunks in anything but love love salsa, so I just blend it up and then I don’t have to pick around the chunks. Pure genius! So I recently started running again and let me tell you lil miss runner, it hurts and its hard and I want to quit but also don’t want to quit because I need to get back in shape and lose the baby weight. It’s just so hard with running being so hard. It’s never really been this hard for me. I mean I do like a 11 minute mile and that’s hard right now. Pathetic huh? But I did think of you last Friday when I headed out for my run. Here are the Janae thoughts that went through my mind, 1. I wonder if Janae would approve of my winter running attire? 2. I wonder if I would be warmer if I had those sweet outfits I see Janae wear on her blog. 3. Janae said hers kept her so warm she took layers off in one post, I definitely don’t feel that warm right now. 4. Janae could be watching, I cannot walk. 5. I am going to pick a destination and just keep running until I get there and when I want to stop I’ll think of WWJD (what would Janae do, obviously), 6. Got home calculated that I ran 5.6 miles, was totally shocked, and thought to myself, I need to tell Janae. 7. I am so tired but if I don’t stretch or sit in a bath of ice Janae would be so mad, but I really don’t want to do either. I mustered in one stretch.

Those were my Janae thoughts! Thanks for inspiring me to get back in shape even though its freaking hard!!!

DARCEE!! Your comment made my day!! Girl, way to go getting back out there and RUNNING! I can’t imagine how tough that must be after having a baby but you are doing the hard part now and it will all pay off. When do I get to see you and your cutest little boy? WWJD made my day! PS you always dress cute, I am sure your winter attire is perfect. How is it not teaching anymore?

Reply

Not teaching is weird and I miss it but I love what I’m doing! We need to meet up for yogurt and I’ll bring the babe! Let me know when is a good time! I miss seeing you!

Reply

I got a Runners World subscription for Christmas but it still hasn’t arrived – maybe I have two months’ worth waiting for me in my mailbox, too!

Favorite post-race treats are ice cream (favorite post-any sort of exercise treat, including the walk to my mailbox to see if I have a Runners World waiting for me) and pancakes smothered in maple syrup. Unlike ice cream, they taste so much better when you really work for them!

Reply

I’ve wanted a magic bullet for years! Don’t make fun [haha], but I always used to watch the MB commercial on weekend mornings when nothing else was on :P They have them at Costco… Maybe it’ll be a VDay present?!

Reply

We used to have a Magic Bullet until my mom let us try her blender/chopper/smoothie maker wand-y thing. I love it! It’s by Cuisinart.
I currently subscribe to Runner’s World in my iPad, which I’m not such a fan of. Love the magazine, not the medium. I will be resubscribing to the paper version. Otherwise, I only get magazines when I’m at the airport to ensure I’ll actually read them.

Reply

Yes,yes, yes! I read all my fitness mags &get blogs while sitting next to my husband, who is watching tv. I would rather read then watch tv. And the magic bullet…heck ya, I have one! Love it for my green monsters!
post work out usually pb on ezekiel bread, &get choco milk.

I WANT A MAGIC BULLET! I may invest in one for college!
ALSO DOPPELGANGER ALERT- you look kind of like amanda bynes! just realised that- and lucky you because she is gorgeous :)

Reply

Well now I’m jealous! Where is MY runners world?? Hmmmm..

Reply

Runner’s World!! And I get about 100 Victoria’s Secret Catalogs per month… I used to take them to the gym and stare at those abs as I ran hahaha

I haven’t done many races yet, and they’re usually in the morning so probably a breakfast food like Omelette and English Muffin or Bagel — but the most exciting is that night for dinner to have pasta or a brownie sundae and not feel bad!

No magic bullet but seems easy! I just use the big blender and it’s a pain to cleeeeean.

Reply

….The Magic Bullet turns into the cup you drink your smoothie out of??? WHAT!!! What ROCK have I been living under???

Reply

I get Runners World and Women’s Health Mag :) Love em both and get so excited when they come in the mail. While I love the website there is nothing like flipping through the pages of a magazine :)

One of my BFFs loves the magic bullet. Loves it. In college I think he made every meal in it. Not kiddin!

Reply

I thought I loved my magic bullet. . . then I got a vita mix. . . Don’t worry I still use my magic bullet! I love love pizza. My fav is from malawi’s and then oreganos comes in 2nd.

Reply

I LOVE my Magic Bullet!! Best thing EVER created. I use it ALL the time.

That is such an awesome pic of such fabulously FAST runners. WOw.

Reply

Hahahahah I mean baked potato + ketchup in blender = my kind of magical soup. I’ve never thought of putting it on my floor! I should try putting a couple layer of blankets underneath to absorb the sound. So smart.

Reply

I’m glad I’m not the only person who gets excited about her running magazines. I actually jump when they come in esp Runner’s World. And my Magic Bullet is a glorified milkshake maker!! I LOVE it!!!!

Reply

It’s like running magazine Christmas!

My husband read my Runner’s World before me this time, and I was a little sad. I like the pages to be crisp & new when I first read them! I know it doesn’t really matter, but still… :)

Reply

I have RW and Running Time subscriptions–love them! It’s always a good day when they come in the mail :)

I usually can’t eat for a while after runs but after my races for dinner I usually get pizza.

I love my magic bullet but I think I love my vita mix more!

Reply

Only Runners World, and I too got my January and February issues yesterday! Wahoo!

Reply

Hey, where are my issues of RW??? They better come tomorrow or else!

I’m sad to say, I do not have a Magic Bullet. Looks cool in the infomercials but I have never been sold. I’ll stick with my trusty food processor and blender.

Reply

Ahh, I have Mag-envy! I’ve been wanting to subscribe to Runner’s World and have almost done it SO many times lately. Nothing better than actually flipping through the pages…I secretly would love to subscribe to some gossip mags as well…I’d probably be over-obsessed though, haha.

Reply

Getting magazines in the mail is like opening the door to heaven! My subscriptions just expired (Nylon and [almost] Clean Eating) and I’m waiting a little longer for my poor bank account to catch up with my spending habits before subscribing to Runner’s World. As for the Magic Bullet…WANT.

Reply

Good, that means I will be getting my issues to. I’ve been accusing the mail man of stealing them. I always want a great cup of coffee when I am done with a long run or race.

I eat my breakfast off the floor as well, no plate, just trying to go green up in here.

Great blog, by the way. I look forward to reading about your adventures!

Reply

HEY TRISTEN! Thanks for your comment. I am loving your blog too and that is the coolest thing ever that you have held a baby tiger! WOW!

Reply

I haven’t run many races but so far my favorite post-race treat is hotcakes. In fact, I am scoping out good breakfast places for my next post-half meal.

We have a Magic Bullet and we love it. We use it all of the time.
I don’t subscribe to any magazines other than ones for my church. Totally lame.

Reply

I love that picture! I think I need to hang it in front of my treadmill… don’t you think?

You’re so considerate to take your magic bullet to work! Did you really put a potato in there? Oh Janae… only you!

I subscribe to RW, RT, Yoga Journal and Vegetarian Times…and I recently subscribed to Trail Runner but haven’t gotten an issue yet. I LOVE magazines and when there’s one in my mailbox it’s the best day of the week!

Reply

I’m only subscribed to Self now, but I need more. I LOVE magazines.

My favorite post-race treat: pizza or waffles.

I love the Magic Bullet, too! I’m smoothie obsessed right now, so it’s perfect!

Reply

I just started reading your blog and love it!

I get just as excited about my Runner’s World issues, especially the half-marathon special issue!

I was using a crappy blender until I inherited my husband’s Magic Bullet after we got married. It makes my life SO. MUCH. EASIER.

My favorite post-race meal is a big fat Chipotle burrito!

Reply

HEY AIMEE! Yay for a new blog friend! The magic bullet really does simplify life. Oh Chipotle is incredible!

Reply

i just received my runner’s world magazines today, too! i subscribe to RW and loulou, a canadian fashion/shopping magazine.

i have no magic bullet, although i want one SOO badly for the simple reason that i can drink & blend with the same cup. i hate doing dishes. ooh i hate them so!

and favourite post race treat: CANDY, anything sweet, chocolate milk, ummm fries? ;)

Reply

All I ever want after a race is a banana.

And then many hours later, Mexican Food or a cheeseburger

Reply

I currently get Marie Claire, and I actually subscribed to Runners World a week or so ago, it’s killing me I have to wait like 6 weeks for my first issue!

Reply

Hey,

Stumbled upon your blog a few days ago and I love it! Keep up the awesome posts.

I subscribe to Runner’s World too! And my fav post-race food would have to be Red Robin burger and fries with a chocolate milkshake. Although I love love love the Five Guys Cajun fries just like you! :) I guess we are BFFs now :P

Reply

HEY!! Thank you so much for your comment, you made my day! OH YES, Red Robin burger and fries with a shake= heaven! We are definitely bffs now!

Reply

I hate to admit it, but I let my magic bullet sit for years untouched in the box. Then one day I wanted a smoothie and whipped it up in the bullet, and its been residing in a prime kitchen location ever since. What was I doing all that time?

Currently subscribed to Runner’s World. Cant get enough.

My favorite after race meal was after my Thanksgiving day 5 miler…. haha. A huge family feast with all the fixings was perfect for refueling! Not sure I can that one can be topped.

Reply

I can’t wait to get my new Runner’s World in! Yippie it should be here any day! :) I want to subscribe to Running Times as well. Yay!

Reply

Ohh I’m obsessssed with the Magic Bullet! It’s the most genius invention ever! It makes it so easy and convenient to make healthy smoothies – I often take them to work for breakfast!

Reply

I know the feeling! I get so excited with fresh, new magazines! I don’t get any at the moment (apart from Mexico Runners World) but when I lived in New York I got the works- runners world, running time, shape, womens health!! I love them!

A magic bullet is basically a mini smoothie maker right? I have seen the infomercials…

Reply

I subscribe to Runner’s World

Reply

I’m subscribed to Self (favorite!), Women’s Health, Cooking Light, and Eating Well. I LOVE magazines. I have to read them slowly to make them last longer.

Reply

When I was in school a friend’s boyfriend offered to make dinner for her. She was pretty excited til she got there and realized everything had been made with the Magic Bullet that he had bought a few days before. He just wanted an excuse to use it.

Reply

I’m only subscribed to Self – actually I don’t even remember subscribing to it, I just kind of get it each month….
Also, I don’t have a magic bullet but it looks great. Love that it’s blended up in the cup. What do you usually put in yours?

Reply

That is so FUNNY that you brought that to school!! I love the Magic Bullet, although I am banned from them. I have managed to go through three of them in the past year or so. I am pretty harsh on my cooking equipment.

Reply

OK, you just totally made me inspired to subscribe to running magazines again! I am in such a running lull, and they usually motivate me enough to get back into the groove again. New blogger here, just wanted to say thanks for posting!

Reply

I don’t have a magic bullet, but I would LOVE to have one!
I love to eat PJ with banana sandwich pre and post running..
But pizza sounds good too :P

Reply

I just got a Magic Bullet for Christmas but have not decided if I’m going to keep it or not. But your raving reviews of it is swaying me! But is it better than a blender? Different? Do I need both?

Reply

I love smoothies, I hate doing dishes and hate hate hate cleaning the blender…..new(ish) conclusion–I want a magic bullet :)

I am not subscribed to any running mags but my bestie would give me all of her old ones and I have found them a great way to get myself moving when I need inspiration.

Reply

The only magazine I get right now is Rachael Ray, which I love! I read several fitness magazines online and in my random time between teaching classes that I get to spend at Books A Million.

I want a Magic Bullet so badly!!! I saw one for HALF price the other day and didn’t buy it…kicking myself every day since.

Reply

Runners World, Self, Glamour. I really want a subscription to National Geographic!

Reply

Running Times, Runner’s World, and American Fitness. I got two running times in a row this month and it was a nice surprise! I have a magic bullet and use it at least once a day if not more. I love it! I don’t think I have a particular favorite post-race meal. I guess it depends what mood I’m on that day. Texas roadhouse sweet potato, chocken, and rolls is always good, and fro yo or some kind of ice-cream. One time I ate three ice-cream sandwiches right after a marathon. That’s worth doing another marathon right there!

Reply

I received Feb. issue of running times today also. Yes, Jen is amazing! :)

I currently receive runner’s world, running times and parents magazine.

pizza & ice-cream for me too & kisses from my kids and hubby!! :) luv ya

I’m so excited about reading my 2 new Runner’s Worlds cover to cover! I don’t have a magic bullet, but I’ve wanted one since I watched the super long but awesome informercial for it about a hundred years ago! Scrambled eggs and a smoothie in the same machine–now that’s what I’m talking about!

So I’m a few posts behind, but I wanted to share the pizza dough recipe I use. We LOVE it! It’s easy and delish!

I am too embarrased to admit that there are many more. I have never subscribed to runner’s world (although I have ‘borrowed’ it from the waiting room at work)!

I love love love my magic bullet! So I went on a run with a guy today and I pretty much dominated (given that he hasn’t ran since before his mission), but it made me feel so good!

WAHOOOOO!!! Janeen, isn’t that the best feeling in the world. Way to dominate him!

BAHAHAH that is hilarious! Yeah, I probably wouldn’t get one if I were you!! Good call on the popcorn after long run and I need to try this pickle juice combo!

Reply

I totally need to get myself a magic bullet. Seems to be SO convenient!

Reply

I have a ghetto version of the magic bullet that I got for $17, and where better to make breakfast?!

Reply

I have never been a particularly fast runner. Right now all I want is to finish. But I do believe that only if you work hard (run fast), you can be fast in the end. I`m not very patient, but since you do see results in running relatively fast, it`s pretty much perfect for me.
Jen Houck is amazing! Her record time before is something I can only dream of, but then running faster splits 26.2 times is just crazy! She is such an inspiration.
Now I will be reading through my latest issue of Runner`s World (which luckily I can read on the iPhone/iPad and then go see my beloved treadmill at the gym, because the roads are all icy. Working hard to get to my goal.
And after that maybe a little post race snack? I personally love french fries. I would say they are my favorite.
Have a great day!
xoxo

Reply

Hi janae
What do you put in your breakfast smoothie?

Reply

HEY KIM!! I put in 2% milk, frozen berries, a frozen banana, greek yogurt, some pb and some ice cubes. I am not a huge fan of protein powder so I try to get in the protein from the greek yogurt and milk!

Reply

I’m not subscribed to any magazines. I used to get a bunch, but rarely read them, so I gave up.

Pizza is definitely my go-to post race meal. It’s also my go-to pre race dinner. I like consistency.

No magic bullet here, but we do have a pretty sweet blender.

Reply

Do you like RW or RunningTimes better? I currently get RW– is it worth it to get both?

I LOVE smoothies….I think I need the bullet. :)

I subscribe to Runners World and Running Times. I do not throw away a single copy either. I’ve got 5 years worth of magazines. LOL!!

Honestly, water and/or coffee. I can’t think of food until a good 45 minutes to an hour after!

I have the Magic Bullet Baby Bullet. It’s for making homemade baby food. I got if for Christmas and will test it out come summer once my little one it born. Which, by the way, will be a runner. She has no choice. She already is as she runs with me 5-6 times a week! She’s run a 10K, marathon and 50K too.

ohhh all time favorite post-race meal would have to be steak and red wine.

i do have a magic bullet but have only tried using it to cut cheese – which didnt work at all! have you tried doing that? maybe in the summer ill make some adult type bevvys in it!

Reply

I took my mom and dad’s magic bullet only to learn that it was broken. Womp, womp. So, I bought a ninja.

Did you recently see the “baby magic bullet”? They come up with everything.

I was lucky to pick up an entire year of old Runner’s World from my public library. Once a year they give away a complete year of a magazines. I grabbed Runners World, Parents (I am a mom) and Vogue. Dissappointed in Vogue but LOVE the others for FREE! GREAT treadmill reading!
Feb 4th is the next magazine purge! I will be there-EARLY if I have to be!
