A cold run that was actually really hot.

Today was the best day for a run. I was a little nervous when I looked up the weather on my phone when I first woke up and it said 21 degrees.  I think my phone is broken because I ended up getting hot and taking off my gloves and beanie.  Maybe I am the broken one, not my phone.

I did my longest run since my run right before Christmas with my favorite Cali girls.

Photo 1

I only had to ice skate across a few areas and I only fell once.

Photo 2

The 14 miles were gorgeous and peaceful.  All of you Bachelor watchers….you now know that Utah is the prettiest state after watching them run around Park City.

Photo 3

There was one minor problem, at mile 9 I noticed something in my shoe. It felt like I had left a piece of candy in there that got really sticky and I took my shoe off to check it out and found something different.

Photo

I have no idea how it happened and it never hurt….weird. Overall, it was definitely an ‘on’ day with running….hope you had one of those too!

Billy and I are now refueling with our chocolate milk and off to get our favorite Saturday post-run meal!

Ouch! So glad it didn’t hurt. I used to get bloody feet more often, but none since I switched to my current sock brand!

It was about 35 for my run this morning, so not too bad. However, when I got home, my son wanted me to run sprints with him…….exhausting! But how do you say no to a 4 year old that keeps telling you he wants to workout?

Glad you had an awesome run, but sorry to hear about your foot! My feet have never bled from running but my friend’s feet started bleeding once when she decided to run in Converse. Not one of her best ideas…

Reply

I’ve never bled during a run, but that looks scary! Glad you’re ok. My workout was warm, a nice 66° and I was sweatin’ all over, I’d call that a great Saturday. I ate a huge slice of pizza after, I needed salty greasy goodness :-)

Reply

I did 14 miles today too! It was crazy trying to manuver around the ice in Rexburg, but it made me slow down a lot. Probably a good thing….haha I’ve only ran a half-marathon so it was the longest distance I have ever ran!!! And then I got Subways after….I promise you I am not trying to copy-cat you!

Oh my goodness! I hope your foot is ok. I have never had my foot bleed from a run…but Im just starting to train for a half marathon, so who knows.

I havent done my run yet today but it will be on a treadmill so it will prolly be warm. I am nursing a twisted ankle right now so my goal is to make it nice and easy.

Reply

My workout was warm because I did my 5 miles at the gym. I am not motivated to run outside when it is cold. High today is 19 degrees.

After my workout I had a banana and a greek yogurt. My current favorite for breakfast, snack, or even dinner.

My feet used to bleed when my toenails got too long. Now I am very careful to cut them more often.

Hope you had a fabulous Saturday!

Eek! I hope your foot is okay. I am glad it didn’t hurt. Mine have only bled due to blisters – and that has only happened a couple of times. Can I tell you how much I love those socks?! They are so comfy, no? Did you get yours from Costco as well?

I ran outside today too. It seriously was the perfect day for running in Utah. Then I did some weights after and finished it off with a nice protein shake (almond milk, protein poweder, lots of berries & a half a banana).

Really random refuel of tator tots and Janae amounts of ketchup. So the actual post run meal was nothing out of the norm: ginormous salad with every veggie, tuna, cheese, and western dressing.

I get what happened to you from time to time and never feel it either.

I ran 5 miles today (longest in 3 weeks…Take that cracked pelvis!). It was warm since I was on the treadmill. Hubby asked me last night to run with him (which he NEVER does. I think he likes it that I’ve had to slow down!), but when we got up the already icy road was covered with snow. I was told I can’t even think about falling until at least one year has past or I could at the least refracture and at the worst break my hip and/or pelvis straight through, so I won’t run on a road I can’t see. I was looking forward to running with the hubby, but just thankful I am able to run at all.

Refueling was Fage Greek yogurt and a Honeycrisp apple. (Prefueling was gummy worms.:))

I’ve had bloody feet! It was just like what happened to you, too. No pain and usually I only knew about it when I took my shoes off and found a bloody sock. A couple of times my toenail ended up falling off, but usually it was just blood. I went up 1/2 a shoe size and that helped. Although seeing a bigger shoe size didn’t help my self esteem. :)

That looks like it hurts!, but I’m glad you had a good run! I can’t believe you run so many miles for “fun”! I am going to start training for a half marathon in a few weeks and can’t wait! I hope I have “good” running days like yours while I train ;)

I love Utah!!! Whenever you post outdoor pics, makes me want to get on a plane. My grandparents live in Moab, so I spent a lot of summers there as a kid. good times. I did my run on the treadmill – HOT! I had lots of random crap after the run, in between feeding children and changing diapers. more good times:-) and I had a random toe bleed once – didn’t notice until I took my sock off, I think it was something with a toenail that cut into my skin? don’t really remember! Enjoy the rest of your Saturday!!

Yah for good long runs–go you!!

My workout was HOT ;) I did some stair stepping, ellipticalling (?!), and taught BodyPUMP. Sweat dripping off the elbows anyone??

Hope your foot feels better! OUCH. Once I bled and lost a toenail while skiing without knowing it because the boot was too small (they’re so uncomfortable I thought they were all THAT uncomfortable. WHoopssiees)

Bloody foot?! Weird. Maybe a blood blister or a cracked nail? Glad you had a great run!!

I did lots of random stuff for about 2 hours of exercise today. I refueled with chocolate milk, leftover pizza from dinner, and a NAP! It was really windy here, so it would have been a cold run today!

Reply

I did 13 miles in 1:42 which I’m super proud of. Granted I’m a wimp and only run on the treadmill but still, 13 miles is 13 miles. I’d been feeling a little under the weather the past couple days and hadn’t worked out so I kind of shocked myself by being able to get through 13 miles. Your run looks gorgeous! Some day I’ll stop being a wimp and start running outside..

Reply

bodies can do amazing things!! that is a great time no matter where the miles are ran!!! awesome job girl!

Reply

Thanks!!

Reply

My long run today was cold! There was a crazy wind and it was really icy too. I refueled with waffles topped with pb, blueberries, and maple syrup!
That has happened to my feet before, usually it’s a bloody toenail :-)

Reply

Woah I’ve never had that happen before–so weird!!!
I thought about going for a run outside today because it was so warm but the sidewalks were SUPER icy so I opted for the gym. Post-gym I refueled with a bagel sandwich!

Reply

Chilly, but hot 14 miler as well!

I refueled with PB&J!

Once, when I first began running. My shoes were too small! Lesson learned, lol.

Nice run Janae!

Reply

So was it a toenail? Yowtchie! I hope you get lots of froyo to help with the healing process! :) 14 miles–you’re a rockstar! Congrats!!

Reply

You rock, Janae! I did a cold-hot 10-miler! It was about 30*, but the wind gusted up to 25-30 mph, so I felt like I kept getting smacked by a Mack Truck! totally wiped out on the ice and laid on the ground for a minute to catch my breath. It felt so good! HA!

Ouchie on the bloody toe! I have had that happen a couple times, too, and I never felt it during the run. So weird how that happens. I think it’s the endorphins from running that make me zone out everything else!

Hope you and Billy enjoyed the choco milk – best recovery fuel–EVER! Happy Saturday!

Reply

I had the exact same thing happen to my foot recently on a 13 mile run – it never hurt either. I figured my toes must have been getting squished so I loosed my shoelaces at the very front of the toebox and it solved the problem!

Reply

oh! and my run this morning was 21F… kept waiting for it to get warmer but it just didn’t. And chocolate milk afterwards :)

Reply

ive definitely had that happen before! it didnt hurt either! weird… we runners are tough :)

Reply

Yikes! That’s unfortunate. Good job keeping the running up :). I need to go biking win you and Billy sometime. Toying with the idea of doing STP this summer…

Reply

No workout for me today!! Unless you call eating a workout…

My feet have done that before without me noticing! I end up finding little cuts on my toes (don’t know how it happens) and I guess the constant pounding just forces a ton of blood out!!!

Enjoy the rest of your Saturday :)

Reply

Ah Janae, I’d kill to run with those views. Mine are never pretty. I have 14 miles on the schedule tomorrow so it should be a fun morning/afternoon albeit cold.

Reply

I have had blisters all over my feet at one point or another. I have lost every single toe nail…several times. I guess that comes with running and training for 10 Ironmans, marathons..what have you…it will heal…

Reply

I’ve only had bloody feet once, and that was the result of bad socks and blisters. Your’s looks sooo bad. I wonder, did adrenaline prevent the pain?

Reply

Hahaha for me that usually meant it was time to cut my toenails!!

Reply

I got in a cold weather run but the sun was shining, so I loved it!

Refueled with a delicious sandwich (even took pics for the blog) from a new and creative sandwich shop in town. Yummy!

Dinner (refueling again) will hopefully be sushi!

Reply

My run this a.m. was comfortable. Not too hot not too cold. It was my first since coming down with a cold earlier in the week. It felt good to move again!

I refueled with an egg and cheese sandwich. Hit the spot!

Reply

My feet have bled a number of times during a run, and it’s usually because a toenail is digging into the other toe and cut it a little bit. Nothing too serious. But it always look exactly like yours when I take my shoes off.

Reply

My run and bike ride was cooold. started a little early before the sun could warm things up:)

Question for you- did you year that the SLC marathon is not happening? I am all signed up and training and heard that the director quit and the race course is not approved? Let me know if you know anything. Thanks girl!

Reply

Brrr…. that’s so cold! I have to agree that after seeing Park City on the Bachelor all I could think about was trail running there. It’s so beautiful. You are so lucky that you live in such a scenic state. It’s so much better than Texas.

Reply

I took an afternoon 7 miler in unseasonable 53 degree temps. I came home to home-made meatballs, home-made garlic bread, and spaghetti. Yum^3

Reply

Your picture are gorgeous!! Can’t wait to get my long run in tomorrow morning! Today I settled the indoor bike – and made a yummy homemade (healthy!) pizza

Reply

If you thought 21 degrees was a hot long run, I was running in the dessert. It was mid 70s today when I ran my 12 miler but it wasn’t too bad. Actually cooler than the usual 80s! I had an awesome run today too, yay runners high!
I refueled with dark chocolate almond milk :) So good.
I’ve never had my feet bleed, but I hope you feel better!

Reply

Ooo ouchy feet. This is what happened to my feet in the SLC marathon. SOOO Bad! http://chadandjordanadventures.blogspot.com/2010/04/262.html

it truly was such a gorgeous day winter day here in utah!! glad you had a great run! i had an “on running day” too… it felt amazing!!!

Reply

Oh no you fell. Hope your okay. I think I almost fall 4-5 times per run these days with the black ice out these days haha.

Reply

My workout was nice and hot today…at the gym! I always refuel with a chocolate protein shake. :)

Reply

was it a nail? Is it painful now?

Reply

ew, that sucks! I can’t believe you didn’t notice that, but hey I’ve had my hand bleeding while cooking dinner only to wonder why it felt “wet” – oh that’s blood running down your wrist…..silly me ;)

nice run!~

Reply

my workout was cold. yesterday was 70 degrees in texas and today for my race it was randomly 40. thanks texas for being bipolar :)

ive bled when i get a blister during the run and then it pops while im still running. hope it dosnt hurt too bad!

after my run i made some delicious waffles with yogurt and fruit. they were amazing :)

I think it must be the weather apps on our phones that were broken. Mine said the temp was 23, so I dressed too warm and had to circle back past my house and drop off a layer. I don’t often get to run in full sunlight, so it was a treat to run outside on this pretty Utah day!

I refueled with a GNC Swiss Chocolate Lean Shake. I like the pre-mixed ones best. It’s marketed as a “meal replacement” but the also sell the same product in different packaging as a protein shake for muscle recovery. It has 25 grams of protein, 170 calories, and tastes almost like chocolate milk.

I’ve never had my foot start bleeding while running yet, but I’m still a newbie!

Reply

Ouch that looks painful- hope you’re ok! I returned with a protein shake and scrambled egg whites… I felt like I was eating a bodybuilder’s meal but I had a major craving for both so just rolled with it!

Reply

Let’s see…my workout today consisted of drinking wine by the fireplace and then going to my little cousin’s second birthday party (where I did some weight lifting between the two year old and his twin brothers that are almost four). Thankfully, today was a rest day to catch up on sleep from this insane week! I have to work tomorrow after church (open house at school), so I’m not sure a workout will be in the works tomorrow either. Monday will be a different story – I have a personal training sesh with my client, teaching cardio dance, teaching abs, and then teaching zumba. My feet may be bleeding by the end of all that ha!

I hope you enjoy your Sunday!

My run was crazy hot today, totally beautiful summer like day. I refueled with a new find of chocolate coconut milk. Glad you had such a good run, looks beautiful.

Reply

way to rock the run!! at least the bloody foot didn’t hurt, but it must have been a not so cool surprise when u took the shoe off!! i’ve been there before too. :P

workout today was hot, inside for me!! hope u’re having a great weekend!!

Reply

I did a virtual 5k and ran all but .10 of a mile. A HUGE first for me!! SO excited!!

Reply

Your snowy route looks gorgeous! I was once in Utah a couple years ago and found it stunning. It was in July though, so no snow.
It was cold here yesterday. Apparently we’re about to have a “Siberian blast” so that’ll be fun… ;)

Reply

great run J! You’re fabulous! xx

Reply

That happens to me all the time when I let my toenails grow too long. Gross, yes. But never painful! Cut them nails girl!

Reply

omg, totally envious, I long to go trail running. Ok, that’s it. You and Bachelor have sold me on Utah.

Reply

Ahh I wear those same socks. I hope your Costco has the 6 pack for $12, too!

Reply

I have bloodied many-a-sock in my day. The weird thing is, it usually doesn’t hurt! It also makes me feel like a pretty tough chick — so I don’t mind bloodied feet. :)
