I missed you a whole lot last week. Thank you for waking me up this morning and making my day so much better than it would have been without you.
This morning I did 8 miles at a recovery pace and enjoyed watching the makeover episode of Biggest Loser. In case you were wondering, I always have to have two water bottles when I am running on the treadmill because if I stop the treadmill to go fill up my water bottle I will not get back on and instead get back into bed and Billy doesn’t really appreciate it when I get back into bed still sweaty from a run. Something about I smell bad.

CONGRATS!! Email me and let’s get you your shoes!
I really love reading the Runner’s World Forums. There is a ton of great information and a lot of people that are just as crazy as I am about running.
Today I was checking out the Top 10 Reasons to Run thread and wanted to post some of my favorite answers that I found in regards to that question. Quotes below are all from the forum and I have no idea who the people are but they are awesome:
-Because my dog tells me to
-To look good on COPS if the occasion ever arises
-Can bore friends, co-workers and passing strangers with intricate details of racing and training.
-A good excuse to spend 3 hours outside not doing boring stuff like housework
-Keeps me from wanting to choke anybody. As much.
-To say I’m doing an easy 10 miler and mean it.
-To eat as much as I want (especially ice cream)…..no, this one was not from me.
What did you get your significant other for Christmas?
-I just finished up shopping for Billy but he reads the blog so I can’t tell you yet but I am interested to know what you guys got!
Who do you think will be the Biggest Loser this season?
-I have no idea…the suspense is killing me.
Do you agree with any of the above reasons to run? Any other funny reasons to add to the list?
It’s finals week right now…. so running keeps me away from studying and helps me stay sane :)
Running makes us smarter = run more and you will do better on your tests. GOOD LUCK!
Kate @ Chasing It
Oh man I love the biggest loser! And the RW forums haha I’m like a regular there. on the forums about food obviously. Reasons to run? Definitely keeps me sane and happy! no endorphins = cranky Kate. Plus….its impossible to think of a reason NOT to run!
I like that last part, you are SO right!
Ashley @ This Is The Place
Getting the husband some fun stuff….new cooking tools, kitchen knife lessons (he loves to cook), perhaps kettlebells? And camping/hiking gear.
As for why I run…because it’s who I am when I am at my best. Because in that moment, I am free, I am beautiful, I am strong, I am happy. And who wouldn’t want to feel like that every morning? :)
I think you might like this quote. It’s one of my favs:
… Even if you’d never get old or even get fat; And your dog could take itself out; And everyone loved you; And you always slept well; And you never got sad; And all you teachers all thought you were a genius; And no one ever broke up with you; And every scholarship was a full scholarship; And the world wasn’t a mess; And your body looked good all on its own; And every day in every way; You felt like you just wanted to feel…
YOU’D STILL RUN.
Brooke @ sweats & sweets
I think John or Ramon are going to win! I was rooting for Becky but was so sad when she got eliminated last week!
I spoiled the hubby, Lulu shirt and sweatpants, a new shirt/tie, car mats, golf store gift card, a couple DVDs…. he is spoiled ;) As long as I get it back! haha
I agree to eat as much ice cream/cookies as I want, to say a easy 10 miler – thats my fav! Or last winter when I would do long runs outside in the cold (-20 ish) an excuse to lay around in pjs all day and eat every hour!
Shannon @ Mon Amour
I love reading the RW forums too. It’s my go-to for all my running related questions
Corey @ learning patience
please add – enables me to justify spending lots of money at lulu lemon. :-)
love the reasons girl…. you crack me up…but now I sound like a broken record… xoxo from Trinidad
I think I’m rooting for Anton or Ramon. I can’t wait for the finale tomorrow!
I run because it keeps me sane, keeps me busy, and gives me something to look forward to. My husband is on his fourth deployment, so I decided to train for my first marathon. It kept me busy, and gave me something to look forward to. I finished my first marathon, and we are now at the half way point!! I am thinking of doing another marathon in April. Racing is fun, especially with friends.
Kristen @ notsodomesticated
Husband and I aren’t exchanging gifts this year. We’re going on vacation to Marco Island, so that was kind of our gift to each other. :)
(Plus, let’s be honest … I never know what to buy a boy! ;) )
I gave him and his best friend tickets to see his college football team play at the Alamo Bowl.
Another funny/true life reason to run: Burn enough calories to not feel guilty about dessert and dessert round two. Also, so that during the Zombie apocolyps, I’m all set to survive til the end.
I totally agree with the last reason. The challenge of improving every time I lace up my sneaks is so motivating.
I like Antone, only because he used to play for the Philadelphia Eagles – my favorite team. For some reason I haven’t really “connected” with this season’s contestants.
I got the hubs a punching bag. He’s been wanting on for a while. We’ll see how it goes.
Hubby wants new golf clubs for Xmas, so that is what he shall get. I want Antone to win TBL but I think John will win it. Agree with all the reasons to run, but my addition is “I run to keep grumpy mommy away”. My kids like it when I have had my run for the day:)
Haute Running Mama
Ramon! I love that he came back and won the marathon. Shows his determination! He has such a positive attitude and I LOVE that about him! Although Antone (I think) had more weight left to lose so it could be a close one!
I have not shopped for Lane yet. Sigh. I still have 12 days left right? Internet here I come hahahahahahah!
I got Mike a Nook for Christmas…he’s pretty much impossible to shop for because he doesn’t want anything, but he loves to read, so I’m hoping it goes over well.
We don’t have cable, so I haven’t watched BL this season :(
Rosa - Fitness Food Fulfilled
I’d definitely go with “to eat as much as I want.” Yeah, baby!
I got my husband a pea coat that he’s been wanting and some sort of bluetooth speaker thing for his phone. I had to beg him for ideas though. He’s so hard to shop for!
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats
Omg I LOVE the biggest loser, I’ve been slowly watching all the old seasons on Netflix. All 12. And I love the COPs reasoning! Almost laughed out loud in the library.
A new ipod shuffle, an itunes card, a pen he wanted for work, new running shorts .
I started running because I needed a tangible goal until I start grad school in the spring. I was a competitive gymnast for many years and wanted to find something.g that was comparable to the endorphin rush I got back when I was a gymnast. Also trying to carve out a new identity for myself so I can let go all of the pieces of my eating disorder. Running helps. I am not sure that makes a lot of sense sorry :)
Elizabeth @ reads recipes runs
I got my husband a 22 inch flat screen LED computer monitor. My boss helped me pick it out since I know nothing of these things. Haha.
OMG I can’t WAIT till the finale tomorrow!! I have so many opinions about the marathon from last week, but I don’t want to say them till you watch it :)
OMG I love the not choking people, as much. Hilarious because it’s true. One of my reasons is because it’s cheaper than a therapist.
I got my bf a custom-made medal hanger for all his race medals-he’s hoping to sub 3hr the marathon this year (his last marathon was 3:02) so I think this will serve as wonderful inspiration!
Lauren @ Sugar Coated Sisters
I am getting my boyfriend tickets to a football (soccer) and basketball game at the OLYMPICS!!!!!! the day in between is conveniently the same day as the women’s marathon event.
now i just need to convince him to fly from CA to london with me :)
My favorite reason to run. An excuse to buy another cute running outfit and shoes to match :)
“Keeps me from wanting to choke someone. As much.” <– Bahaha loved this!!
So our big gift to each other is that we wanna go skiiiiiing next year! but I found the coolest workout headphones for him — water resistant you can WASH them after your workout — completely wireless, and holds up to 400 mp3s ON the headphones so he won't need to lug his phone around the gym anymore! look here… http://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921666364193 and hopefully he never reads this or checks his browser history LOL
Biggest Loser… hmmm Idk!!! it's crazy competitive this year! although I'm always sad when girls don't make it to finals ugh…
Yes I agree with MOST of them!! I'd add to gain a new found confidence and love in myself :) I'm obsessed with a new Tumblr thing I found today that is http://reasonstobefit.tumblr.com/
Haha, I love those reasons! I run in the hopes that one day I can eat as much chocolate as I want and it won’t affect me. That hasn’t happened yet, but I am convinced it will one day.
Hubby and I somehow along the years stopped giving each other gifts. We like visiting places together so we’re probably gonna go to a beach resort for Christmas. I can already imagine the feel of the gentle sea breeze while relaxing under the shade, drinking coconut juice with a flower in my hair. What a great present. =]
Running makes me feel confident.
I totally think John is going to win it all. He is one motivated stubborn guy! Did you notice a hymn book and primary book on his shelf in his house when they were interviewing Dolvett at John’s house? Totally didn’t know he was Mormon.
Brittany @ GOtheXtraMile
Hahah love those reasons. I run because I LOVE it!! Congrats to the winner :D
There is less crime in the world because people run. ;) DH got the iPhone 4S. And I got him a shirt. He never wants me to get him anything, but I still do.
LOVE that list :)
Running benefits are endless. Basically flush cheeks–no need for tanning or blush in the winter. You sleep better. Gives you traveling excuses and tons of goodie bags and shirts and then there are ALL the fees that go to charities which covers your community service for the year. Double win.
ahh i loveee that 10 reasons!!!!!!
and um I AM OBSESSED WITH BIGGEST LOSER! i cannot wait for the finale! i have no idea who is going to win/ who i even want to win i am so mixed!!!!!!<3
Jodi @ Southern Flavored Life
I haven’t gotten my husband anything for Christmas yet! Oof.
I love you Top 10 reason to run; very clever!
I can’t wait for the Biggest Loser finale! It’s something I look forward to every season. And one of the reason’s I’m become a dietitian :-)
I got my boyfriend a Blu-Ray player for Christmas. I can’t wait to give it to him! I have him convinced that I am refusing to get him one because I don’t see how it’s any better than a DVD player (which is true… I don’t get it).
I got T tickets to a hockey game. I love those reasons to run…gotta look good on COPS.
I love the biggest loser, I am hoping it is Ramone!
Heather @ run eat play
I never know what to get my hubby! It’s so hard because ge never wants anything! Probably an iTunes giftcard and a giftcard to get new dress shoes. I’m still thinking of ideas.
I have no problem letting him know what I want though…
I want Antone to win. He’s the only one that hasn’t gotten on my nerves in at least one episode.
Hubs is getting a gift certificate to the Mario Andretti racing experience and will get to drive a race car on the speedway! He is a simple guy who never wants anything so I am super excited that I am able to surprise him…maybe more excited than he will be when he opens it!!
scuba hoodie from lululemon for her first half in March. I have not been watching B.L. this season, reason to run>>>>so i dont have to take cholesterol meds, thank god for that
I don’t even want to talk about why I run because I miss good runs sooo much! I know I think every time I comment it’s just to complain about how I can’t run… but I just sometimes want to completely give up cuz I just keep having trouble! Lately, though, even though I only force myself out 2-3 times a week my main reason to run is that I’m too stubborn NOT to!
And holiday shopping… ug, haven’t really done any yet. But hey, want a cat?
And I don’t watch the biggest loser…
-Keeps me from wanting to choke anybody. As much.
Maybe hands down the winner for me – it helps me sweat the evil out and shed my snake skin to come back a better soul.
I love the one about “so I don’t want to choke anyone”
so true, running helps me deal with stress.
I am just hoping John doesn’t win biggest loser because he just seems so fake (to me) and it seems like all he cares about is the competition and will therefore gain it back, so as long as he doesn’t win I am happy.
Emily @ Perfection Isn't Happy
So far, I’ve gotten my fiance new workout shorts, compression shorts and a hat to workout in (see the theme :)), and right now I’m debating whether to buy him an ipod or not. He never works out with music, and I’m thinking he might like it, but I don’t want it to be one of those items that just gets thrown in his closet!
I hate that guy John from TBL. what a jerk. Anton has been my pick from week one!
My husband creeps your blog, so I can’t tell :P Sometimes I’ll be like “Oh I read on HRG today blah blah blah ” and he gives me this look like he already knows…he says it’s only sometimes, but I think it’s everyday ;P lol
Not wanting to choke someone, as much- definitely on my list.
I would add- because I don’t have to hear someone beg me for more food while I’m doing it.
I feel like you spent all night asking the questions- I want to know what races YOU are doing next year and what some of your goals are!!!
Oh- and I’m hoping for Antone for Biggest Loser. I love that big lug. John rocks, but freaks me out, and I don’t think Ramon has it in him to beat the big guys, but you never know. I can’t wait to watch it while stuffing my face tomorrow!
The reason I run is definitely not because I like it, I wish it was. I hate it quite frequently but I do it to prove to myself that I can.
I run because I love how it feels when it’s all over!!!…haha love them all! I’m giving my beloved a photo frame full of pics from our trip to New Zealand…anyone thinking of going? DO IT! One of Gods most beautiful stunnning creations…I’ve also given my husband a good amount of chocolate!
I always joke that I ‘run so I can eat a bit more but that’s at the bottom of my actual list! I run to feel stronger, feel like I’ve achieved something and to thrive on those endorphins! One mile or 10, running always has a positive impact on me!
Cait the Arty Runnerchick
hahaha…i love reading the reasons to run and i did some of those not too long ago on a post. i do have to say one of the top is DEF being able to eat gluttonous amounts of food and as a thin girl shock people. :P
tho i think it just comes down to how i feel…i just don’t feel right without my run. :)
Katherine @ Neon Blonde Runner
aack I haven’t even started my Christmas shopping!!!
I need to get on that.
Tappan, my boyfriend, did pick out some Lulu stuff for me, so I better think of some good stuff for him!!
We don’t shop for each other at Christmas. But we did plenty on Black Friday and will hit the after Christmas sales.
I don’t know who will win but I hope it is NOT Ramon. He is driving me crazy with the “I love you SO much”. I give he and Jess 3 more months.
I run so I can eat more and have something to blog about (both the food and the running).
The Kidless Kronicles
One of my favorite reasons to run – undisturbed time to chat with my hubby :) Sure, he is faster than me and could run away if he really wanted to but he is nice and sticks it out haha.
I’m a social worker which is a notoriously stressful and emotionally exhausting (but very rewarding!) job. Running helps me to deal with my job and continue to love it.
Also, I really, really like eating.
I was a social worker for years and loved every moment of it (okay, MOST moments). Running was my life saver! Thank you for all that you do for those in need : )
Christmas gift for the bf: a medal rack. He runs marathons all the time and has been trying to figure out a good way to display them. Also- compression socks.
Running at first was a social thing for me. My friends were runners and i wanted to be able to hang with them. Then I met my bf . He is a running fanatic. So i signed up for a half marathon to try and gain further understanding about his obsession. Then, something I didn’t expect happened. I fell in love with the sport. It has become my therapy… the time in my day where nothing else matters. Any worries or tensions just fall away.
Husband is getting a new coat, golf bag, golf balls, and a bunch of random crap I’m stuffing in his stocking! I hope he is not secretly stalking HRG blog like I do…
I want Antone to win…I hope Vinny wins at home. Biggest Loser is my slob-night indulgence ..two hours of guilt free television.
“-Keeps me from wanting to choke anybody. As much.”
That was my favorite…but I work in a profession where this is applicable. ALL THE TIME.
My reason for running isn’t as humorous… but I run because I love everything about being a runner. I love the benfits physically. I love the places it has taken me. I love the acceptance into the running community– we are runners together. I love that it is mine and mine alone. Running is so very private sometimes and I love that about it. I love the clothes, the shoes. I also love that I choke people less. :)
From the people I have left to chose from ;) I wish that Antone would win. But with his body shape, that is probably not likely. He is just such a great guy. I don’t know why, but I just don’t like John…but I think he will win the title. Of the ‘at home’, I would love to see Sunny or Becky win, but my guess is Patrick…and I am alright with that, I suppose. Wow. Sounds like I have put too much thought into it. lol. I can’t wait to see tonight! I love their transformations! SO amazing.
I’m going to have to do something about the fact that I didn’t win. Sheesh, Janae, sheesh ;)
nice post … very encouraging and truly insightful tips … thank you.
here you can also find some inspiration for start running.
