As my departure time for NY is getting closer and closer I am realizing there are a million random things I need to get done before I leave….ie lesson plans for subs, washing dishes so that they don’t grow mold and preparing Billy mentally for a few days without me (It is going to be really rough on him.  Mom, you might need to invite him over for dinner or something to help ease the pain).

A few more important things came up yesterday and so the above mentioned items will just have to wait.

1.  Hanging out with high school friends.  A big group of us got together along with all of their kids.

CIMG2814

2.  SkinnyRunner reminded me to load up on clothes to wear for so that I don’t freeze my buns off as we wait for the marathon to start.  Good thing Netflix has instant streaming on my phone to keep me entertained.  Or I guess I could talk to the thousands of runners around me that are also probably runner nerds and also want to talk everything running.

If you are looking for me, I am the one in mustard yellow sweats that cost $1.50.   There will be a few more layers on underneath of these beauties too but I want to make sure that these are on the outside layer.

3.  Next important thing on the list of to-do’s was Walmart for iron on letters for my race shirt.  I somehow got sidetracked in the movie section with a DVD that contained 3 of my all time favorite movies….still haven’t seen Chasing Liberty…..for only $13.  That is a steal.

4.  Mexican food and lots of it.  We met up with another couple at Jo Bandito’s.  Any restaurant that starts with chips and salsa wins in my books.  I ordered the tostada…..crisp tortilla, beans, chicken, melty cheese, lettuce, guac, sour cream, tomatoes and more cheese.  Billy had a chimichunga with the exact same ingredients…..interesting.

5.  Receive tips on the BEST places to eat in NY.  He obviously got very passionate about where I HAVE to eat.

a.) Dinosaur BBQ

b.) Max Brenner

c.) Carmines

Let’s see how chips, cheese and guac fuel my treadmill run this morning.  Who knows, maybe this could be a new ‘night before a long run’ favorite meal.

———————————————————————

What is your all time favorite chick flick?

-A Walk to Remember

What do you usually order at Mexican restaurants?

-Usually I order a quesadilla but I was in the mood for a crunchy tortilla and guac last night.

How tall are you?

-Almost 5’9″

Would you rather have Mexican food every night for the rest of your life or Italian?

-I hate when I ask really tough questions…..it is a tough call but I think I am going to have to say Italian.

Max Brenner’s is the BEST chocolate restaurant I’ve ever been to. They have regular food too, but who can pass up chocolate pizza, chocolate cake, fondue, lava cake, etc? It’s delishh!

Reply

Wait a second…chocolate & pizza combined!!! I didn’t know they had that! I may have to eat there for every meal!

Reply

When you get back, go to malawis pizza in Provo. They have a chocolate Reeses’s smores pizza that you would die over!!’

Reply

Dang – you’re tall. I’m 5’7”, so just average.
I’d talk to those runner geeks around you..might find some fellow bloggers.

Reply

Just average?!? Lindsay that comment almost made me cry. 5’7″ is tall, girl – don’t be modest! I am 5’5″ which on this blog I’m pretty sure earns me midget status…

For chocolate in NYC also check out Cocoa V in Chelsea – I used them to cater a few events just so that I could conveniently position myself by the dessert table. It’s like crack, but in a good way.

Reply

lol…5’5” is NOT midget…just vertically challenged. ;)

Reply

Yeah right!!! 5’5″ is not midget!!!!

Reply

Ummm….5’5″ is giant compared to me! I’m only 5’0″ and would do pretty much anything to be just 5’3″ or so!

You can laugh – it’s okay :)

Reply

We are the same height! 5’8,5″ or so.
Dinosaur BBQ is awesome! Make sure to go there! I’ve been to the original upstate NY location, and the wait was more than 2 hours. They don’t take reservations, apparently as they can easily fill up the place without them, too. The BBQ sauce, the ribs… Now you made my mouth water when I’m supposed to get out of the door for my run! :D

Reply

Yay for being the same height!! WHAT….2 hours, must be amazing!! I love BBQ ribs, I must go there! Hope you had an amazing run!

Reply

Those sweats are awesome! Plus for the price I can see why you didn’t pass them up. Chasing Liberty is such a good movie. In fact, every movie in the pack is great! You are going to have such a blast in NYC I’m so jealous!

Reply

Thanks for the recommendation….I need to see it!

Reply

Can you believe I’ve never seen Walk to Remember! I refuse to answer that last question…it’s like asking me which of my kids I prefer! Not that I do have any but if I did, I know it would be a very difficult/impossible decision!

Reply

BAHAHAHA you are hilarious!!! Your homework this week is TO WATCH a Walk to Remember…it is amazing!

Reply

Hmm, it’s a toss up between Serendipity and Sleepless in Seattle. :D
I love Mexican food and usually order some type of veggie enchilada or huge burrito.
I am a small one, only 5’1″.
I would pick Italian food too.
Have a great Wednesday, girl!

Reply

Sleepless in Seattle is a classic and can you believe that I haven’t ever seen Serendipity!?!?! Good to know you would choose Italian too:) YOU have a great Wednesday too!

Reply

I just used a quote from a Walk to Remember the other day…. that movie makes me sob every single time. My favorite is either How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days (the song Feels like Home Again makes me weepy), or Stepmom.

I am 5’1″.

I loves me some chips and salsa!

Reply

Okay, both movies you mentioned I haven’t seen in forever..thank you so much for the reminder of how awesome they are!

Reply

I lovvvve the movie Notting Hill and though I love Mexican (anything with guac) Italian food has my heart!!

Reply

Guac really should be put on EVERYTHING!!! Notting Hill was amazing….I must watch that again soon!

Reply

Skinny Runner told me that you were also running NYCM….so am I….its my first marathon! I’ll definitely keep an eye out for you in your mustard colored sweats…I’ll be blending in with everyone else and wearing black! ;/ LOL. Good Luck I know you will do great!! I would rather eat italian everyday for the rest of my life!! yum!! My favorite girl flicks…the notebook and the holiday with cameron diaz and kate winslet….

…and I’m 5’7″ ;D

Reply

HEY MARLENE!! I am so happy you commented and I am so stoked that you are running NYCM and you are going to rock your first marathon! What time do you start? Can you go for cupcakes after. PS The Holiday and The Notebook are some of my favorites too!

Reply

Janae, you will have to wait a llloonnnggg time for me after the marathon!! I’m in wave three and aiming to finish in 5 hours! I’m sure you’ll be done and comfy in your hotel room by then!!! :D I’m just gonna try and enjoy every second and the great crowd. I’m a native New Yorker that is now living in FL so its gonna be emotional on so many levels!! I’m looking forward to being back home! good luck on sunday….and i’ll take a raincheck on the cupcakes…..and who knows maybe I’ll spot you on Sunday! :))

Reply

WHATEVER!!! That is awesome that you are from NEW YORK.. Your first marathon and at HOME. That is so cool. I hope we find each other!

Reply

I love ALL chick flicks…even the bad ones :) I always order quesadilla’s with quac! I’m 5’3″ and I’d def go for Italian!!! And Carmine’s is a MUST!!!!

Enjoy and good luck!!!!

Reply

Seriously, guac and quesadilla’s are the PERFECT combination. What should I get at Carmine’s if I make it there…I heard it is family style!

Reply

I think it is family style…I haven’t been in years, so I don’t have a good recommendation, but from what I recall you will have lots of tasty options and can’t really go wrong! It would be the perfect place to carb load the night before!

And I’m SO jealous you are doing NYC – I’ve wanted to do it for years….got denied in the lottery twice, maybe next year! Have so much fun!

Reply

I love the movie Heartbreaker (Romain Duris) – so much fun! I order fish tacos allllll the time, I’m 5’5″ & today I would pick Mexican food. Tomorrow, probably Italian ;)
Enjoy wearing those mustard pants in NYC!!

Reply

Thanks Emilie!! I haven’t seen Heartbreaker, thanks for the recommendation, I am always looking for new movies!

Reply

great questions:
fav movie: toss up with sex & the city (part 1), urban cowboy and hope floats
order @ mex restaurant: cheese enchiladas
my height: 5’1″
mex or italian every night: both! love them both so much.

Reply

Oh my goodness….hope floats is incredible, I loved the soundtrack from that movie too!

Reply

I had no idea that you were that tall!!!

Favorite Chick Flick: Sweet Home Alabama; Mexican Food: Chicken Fajitas; I’m 5’7″; I would probably go with Mexican food although it is really tough to decide between pizza and fish tacos!

Reply

Fajitas….good call! Sweet Home Alabama is such a cute movie!! I don’t know why I even asked you to choose between pizza and fish tacos:)

Reply

You are not a giant – I am 5’11 :) My hubby is only 5’10 and does not mind when I wear heels… good man!

Do you wear thermal running pants for a cold marathon or do you still wear shorts? I found some sweet watermelon pink thermal nike running pants… just wondering if those get too hot or if they are really needed for winter running. My neon purple running capris are a little chilly under 40 degrees :)

ps. sweet sweats! :)

O and you MUST go to The Shake Shack while you are in NYC – it is an outside burger/fry place – BEST mushroom burger ever and great cheese fries, yum yum yum. http://shakeshack.com/ Madison Square Park is where I usually go to get them – find some place warm to eat it afterward or dress warm to sit outside! :)

O – and if you want a giant wonderful yummy gourmet cupcake – or lots of good candy – check out Dylan’s Candy Bar – http://www.dylanscandybar.com/

Reply

That is AWESOME. When I wear heels I am taller than Billy and he doesn’t care either! I have never worn thermal running pants during a race because I have only raced in temps of 35+ and so shorts work perfect. I am going to have to look into your watermelon thermals…those sound awesome! THANK YOU so much for your links and recommendations…you made me drool and I can’t wait to try them!

Reply

I am really unsure how Billy will live without you! Post pictures of yourself all over so he feels like you are always with him! ;)

I am a short, barely, 5’2 that will def pic Italian food every night. My family is Italian, so that works out for me!

Reply

I KNOW!!! That is awesome that your family is Italian, you probably have the best dinners ever!

Reply

Wahoo for NYC marathon!! Love the mustard color, girl ;)

I LOVE chick flicks—and I totally want that DVD set, looks fabulous! hehe. A walk to remember is a good one, as is Legally Blonde (I love Reese Witherspoon, she is such a fabulous actress!)

Reply

Oh Legally Blonde….CLASSIC, I quote that movie all the time!

Reply

A Walk to Remember is the only movie I have ever cried during. I watched it right after I lost my mimi (grandmother) to cancer and I will never, ever watch it again. My favorite is How To Lose a Guy :)

I’m 5’6″…totally would have guessed that you were around that height too. You don’t look that tall!

MEXICAN!!! easy.

Reply

WOW…….that was not good timing to watch that movie!!! How To Lose a Guy is AMAZING!

Reply

I’m 5’11 so I’m always gigantic in all of my pictures with friends too. My husband is a little shorter than me but if you ask him how tall he is he says “5’9 which is average.” tee her short boys are funny.

By the way come check out my $100 giveaway on my blog. Only 3 people are entered so you have a pretty good chance!

Reply

BAHAHAHAH I love that!! Your husband sounds awesome!! What is the link to your blog…..all I see is Rebecca with no last name and it doesn’t have the link…..

Reply

If you go to Dinosaur you can sometimes skip the wait by sitting in the bar area. It is really good, you should def go.

Also, go to the Meatball shop on the Lower East Side – It is great. You have wait usually, unless you get there early, but it is good and cheap.

Best of luck for NY. They have been clearing out the park all week after the snow/storm!

Reply

GABE, that is brilliant. I was not looking forward to the wait! I will be going to the meatball shop nice and early! Thanks again Gabe!

Reply

They have great icecream sandwiches for dessert too!

Reply

good luck in NY, i know you’ll do absolutely fabulous!

Reply

THANKS SO MUCH NICOLE, hope you are having an amazing day!

Reply

I am a very average 5’4″.

I can’t remember the last time I ate at a Mexican restaurant (horror!)

You are going to rock NYC. And, because you’re a super star, you are going to encourage the Team in Training runners. All of them! There is a special TNT runner who is also going to rock the NYC marathon, and is running in honor of my mom this year.

Reply

WOW!! That is so cool that there is a TNT running in honor of your mom! Thanks so much for your sweet words and you need to go to a Mexican restaurant ASAP!

Reply

I bought that DVD combo…but I got it for $9.99 at Target! Best deal EVER! And Chasing Liberty is awesome…and by awesome I mean extremely cheesy, makes me laugh non-stop even when it’s supposed to be serious. Love, love, love it!

I may or may not be 5’1. At least I’m taller than my mom who tops out at a whopping 4’11!

Reply

I will be going to Target to get that DVD combo..thanks for the heads up and I love extremely cheesy! I bet your mom is the cutest little thing ever!

Reply

Okay, i must admit – i lied a little in my previous reply to another comment…i’m actually 4’11 and a HALF! BUT my license says 5’0 so i just go with that. :) Whew – I feel better now.

Reply

Cinderella Story is my favorite chick flick, I love it!!
I love Mexican food so usually I am torn but veggie burritos are always a top choice for me.
I am short…5’2″ and that is being generous probably ;)
Mexican for sure :)

Reply

Seriously, Cinderella Story is AMAZING!! You make me happy!

Reply

I know I love that movie, oh and all Sisterhood Travelling Pants movies! But I like the books even more ;) Your comments always make me smile!

Reply

No time for the questions but I must put in my two cents and suggest you go to Lombardi’s for pizza:

http://www.firstpizza.com/

I’m not sure how long you are in NY, but if you go, tell me when I am will treat!

Reply

Was typing too fast before I had to leave the computer. I mean to say “I will meet up with you if you have time and treat you and sis to Lombardi’s. Yeah, it’s that good”.

Reply

CRISSY!! You made my day!! Lombardi’s sounds amazing!! So, now it is going to be me and my cousin…sis couldn’t come anymore:( We would love to meet up! I will be there from Friday to Monday! We are staying in Harlem ha!

Reply

Lady I am so excited for you to run the marathon:) lame much? haha PLEASE tell me those hot yellow pants are from the DI??? Totally my go-to store for pre race clothing. Down in St. George ALL the clothes were $3 or more… so this $1.50 deal is a steal!! What are you going to iron on your shirt??

Reply

Not lame at all…thank you so much, that means a lot!! Oh yeah….DI all the way!! St. George must be raising their prices or something ha. I am going to iron on Hungry Runner Girl:)

Reply

Your hair looks super cute in the picture with the sweats!

My all time favorite chick flick is How to Lose a Guy in 10 days. So funny!!

I always get a vegetarian combo. A quesadilla, a chalupa, and a bean burrito, usually covered in cheese. Yummm now I want Mexican for lunch.

I’d have to pick Mexican at the moment. I cant eat Italian food at the moment!

And I’m 5’3.5″. The half inch is important!

Reply

THANKS BRANDI!!! How to Lose a Guy is HILARIOUS!! NO ITALIAN….booo!! I think you should go for Mexican for lunch:) That 1/2 inch does make a big difference:)

Reply

You will need those sweat pants it has been cold!!!!
Carmines is amazing!
I am 5 10 tall girls rock!
Have fun and good luck!

Reply

WAHOO…you are right, tall girls rock!! COLD, oh no…..that sun better shine on Sunday:) Thanks so much Mary!

Reply

PS I love you.

TACOS!!!!

6′

don’t make me choose. please? Ok ok, Mexican.

I would also only suggest Max Brenner for dessert.

Reply

PS I Love You made me bawl!!! 6′ I had no idea you were that tall! Wanna go to Max Brenner?!?!

Reply

totes!

Reply

Ooo What a Girl Wants is such a guilty pleasure of mine! As for food, get to Serendipity if you can for some amazing ice cream concoctions (if you can stand ice cream in this weather!).

Reply

I can stand ice cream at any temperature! I LOVE Serendipity!

Reply

Definitely mexican food for the rest of my life. When we go out, I usually order the taco salad because I just want that giant tortilla bowl!

I’m 5’8″…I can’t believe you’re taller than me!

Reply

Hey I know Zach!!! What a character! I went running with him once actually. From King Henry up and around the temple. (entirely too much uphill)

YUM I love Mexican– guac is my favorite. And it’s a tie for chick flicks– How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days and The Proposal.

Good luck in NYC!!

Reply

THAT IS HILARIOUS!!! Yes, he IS a character!! Ha!! We should go running together and I agree…..the temple run is STEEP!

Reply

You HAVE to go to Serendipity! The wait will be crazy but their peanut butter frozen hot chocolate will more then make up for it. I grew up in NY and still go there every time i’m back! (And if you have been to the one in Vegas it doesn’t count! Their frozen hot chocolate was a watered down, icy mess!)

I will be in BRIGHT purple sweat pants. Maybe we can find each other and pretend to be muppets.

Reply

I had their frozen hot chocolate in LV but PB frozen hot chocolate…..I must have it especially if is way better in NY!! PURPLE….I am jealous….wanna trade?

Reply

Since you are yogurts biggest fan, you have to try 16 handles! There is one on 82nd and 2nd Avenue. It is amazing!

(I am good friends with Madi Jensen, who you met up with in Provo at yogurt land a few months back– Love that girl!!)

Good luck in the race! I will be cheering from 70th and 1st avenue, right outside my apt.

Reply

OH MY GOODNESS…that is so cool that you are good friends with Madi, she is awesome!! WE SHOULD GO TO 16 HANDLES TOGETHER!! A big group of runners/bloggers/readers/anyone are meeting Saturday at 1!

Reply

OMG! YES!! I am totally there..

Wahoo! Can’t wait to meetcha… See you saturday. :)

Reply

Is the 16 Handles that you mentioned easy to get to for everyone? Is it kind of the center of things…..I have no idea where to meet but that one sounds great!

Reply

YES! If you tell people to take the 6 train uptown to 86th street, it is just a few blocks from that! The train would get you off on 86th and Lexington and then 16 handles is on 2nd avenue and 82nd street. It is on the Upper East Side which is a super easy area to get too! It is really close to the race route as well, so all you runners could check it out after!

Reply

Okay…lets do it there! So, one works for you right?

Reply

YES, that one works perfect! I am so excited. You are basically a celebrity and I am excited to meet you! Feel free to bring a weeks worth of cafe rio with you to NY. That is the one thing that I miss most about SLC.

Feel free to email me if you get lost or if you need anything while you are in NY
[email protected]

Reply

Oooo… we ate at Max Brenner in Las Vegas and it is SOOO GOOOD! You must go there at least for dessert. (That’s the best part!)

Reply

Okay, I totally forgot that you need to go to Serendipity while you’re in NYC. They are famous for their “frrrrozen hot chocolate” that is the size of my head (which is big). I haven’t been there yet, but it’s a must!

Reply

SIZE OF MY HEAD….sign me up! Thanks Jen!

Reply

All time favorite chick flick? Notebook (I know, cliche but whatever)
At Mexican restaurants I usually order tacos or enchiladas, depending on where we’re at. Mmmmm I LOVE Mexican food!!!
I didn’t realize you were almost 5’9″! I’m almost 5’7″.
As much as I do like Italian, I will absolutely choose Mexican food. It’s easily one of my favorite kinds of food!

Reply

we have a max brenners in boston, so if you dont get a chance to go while in NYC, you can wait until april ;)

definitely hit up shake shack for the most delicious burger and milkshake you have ever had!!!!!!!

Reply

I have heard amazing things of the shake shack too!! I MUST GO:)

Reply

I would like tons of pictures of the yellow sweatpants. Im sure they will look lovely!

Reply

Best chick flick I am older than most of you When Harry Meet Sally, more current Valentines Day.
I’m 5 feet tall, almost.
Italian over Mexican, tacos, enchiladas and spanish rice, Yum!

Reply

I LOVE WHEN HARRY MEETS SALLY and I now really want to watch it again…thanks for the reminder Bethany!

Reply

I’m not a big fan of mexican food, I find I’ll go to one place and I’ll love something then go to another place to order the same thing and it tastes totally different, Fetuccini Alfredo tastes the same (mostly) anywhere I go so I’d say Italian. I’m 5’7 (barely). My all time favorite “chick flick” is Life as we know it, with Katherine Heigl, I love most of her movies.

Reply

Katherine Heigl is an incredible actress! Fetuccini…it has been way too long since I have had that….must find some now!

Reply

I would definitely choose Mexican food — I could and would eat that every day if I had the chance.

I love the yellow sweats!

Reply

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Mexican food!!! It’s not even 8am and now you’ve got me wanting mexican! Is that wrong to eat enchiladas before breakfast!?

I love chick flicks–all chick flicks–but I’ve gotta say my faves are Sex and the City, Gone with the Wind (does that count as a chick flick?), or any of the 80s movies like Sixteen Candles or Pretty in Pink. Sigh. They get me every time!!!

Reply

My fave chick flick is My Big Fat Greek Wedding
I love ordering tostadas at Mexican restaurants. My husband jokes that my favorite foods are “stuff on stuff” and with a tostada I get stuff on stuff on stuff, topped with guacamole! The perfect food!
I’m 5’8″ and I will always choose Mexican!

Reply

I just stumbled onto your blog the other day. I am a very new runner, but the rest of the my family runs. My mom is running the NYC marathon this weekend, too, and I’m going with her. We are going tomorrow…so we can see some Broadway shows. Good luck with the race and I look forward to reading about it afterwards!

Reply

HEY ELLEN!! I am so happy that you commented and YAY for starting up running. That is so cool that your mom is running too! We are going to have a blogger/runner/reader/anyone and everyone froyo meet up on Saturday at 1….if you guys wanna come. Enjoy your shows!

Reply

We are booked for 2:00 that day, but may be able to swing by if it isn’t
too far. Where is the meetup? I’d love to meet some fellow bloggers, even though I mostly just write about my sweet little girl :)
P.S. I don’t see how you all run in the cold. I cannot make myself go out in 40 degrees and run…let alone colder…but maybe I’m just a newbie and hate being cold!

Reply

i know i’ve said this probably a million times already but i’m so excited for you running this marathon on sunday! i’m also brokenhearted that I dont think i can make it to the froyo excursion on saturday…this weekend is one of my best friends birthdays and kevins cousins birthday…its insane how busy this weekend turned out to be. i’m SOOO SADDD p.s. all three recommendations are really good…I think you’d prob like Max brenner best of all. you should also stop at Serendipity for their awesome frozen hot chocolate ;)

all time favorite chick flick= dirty dancing, hands down

Mexican restaurants…hmmm. i tend to go for fajitas…and sometimes burritos the size of my head.

i’m 5’8 so around your height!

i would say italian. i have to be in a particular mood for mexican food…but i always could go for italian. now…if you threw salvadorean food in there then i’d say that…because you really havent lived unless you’ve had a pupusa ;)

Reply

You always make my day, thank you so much! Don’t worry about Saturday, I totally understand!! We will meet and run together someday. Oh Dirty Dancing is a CLASSIC!! Have a great day gorgeous girl!

Reply

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!!?!? you look so tiny. 5’9″ WOW! that’s a model’s height :) I’m only 5’6″ ….but it’s kinda a good thing b/c Colin is your height…or less.

I love the sweat pants btw

Reply

Billy is my height too!!! You can totally borrow my sweat pants after I am done with them;)

Reply

I love Dirty Dancing!

I’m 5’10” – gotcha beat by an inch. :c)

Sweet pants!

Reply

You beat me!! Dirty Dancing….incredible!

Reply

Zac would know all the best places to eat!! I would take his recommendations to heart!

Question: Do you ever get side aches while running? What can I do to prevent them!?

Reply

LAUREN…how do you know Zach….maybe everyone in Utah county knows him ha. I DO…..usually it is because I am not breathing correctly or I am dehydrate or ate too much before my run. If I slow down and take deep breaths I usually feel a whole lot better!

Reply

Zac was in my freshman ward (a long time ago) and I have run into him ever since.

Yeah I was training for a marathon and then my side would not let up, if I was running or not. I thought it could be sugar intake (gasp I know the thought to give it up) but we will see!

Reply

It can’t be the sugar…..NOOOOOO!! That is so funny about Zac! PS when are we going for froyo?

Reply

When you get back from NYC! I want to hear all about it!

Reply

my favorite chick flick is ‘while you were sleeping’.
i always order a chicken taco a la carte because i always eat too much chips and salsa beforehand:)
i am 5’3″ tall (or short)!
i would rather have mexican food instead of italian.

carmines is amazing in new york! also try roxy’s for a midnight snack, its right in times square and their cheesecake is amazing!

Reply

I had no idea you were that tall! It’s so hard to tell in pictures :) I’m 5’7 and always wanted to be 5’8. I have no idea why that one inch meant so much but I was obsessed with that height growing up. It’s probably a good thing I’m not since my hubby is a shorty and any heels over an inch of so make me taller than him. Hate that! I’m getting so excited for you and the NYCM!!

Reply

I have to, well not have to but…, out in my two cents on NYC restaurants.
1) Dinosaur BBQ is supposed to be legit, enjoy this one
2) Instead of Max Brenner, I would suggest a visit to Jacques Torres- get the spicy hot chocolate!
3) For Italian, skip Carmines, go to Lil’ Frankies or Otto. Same price range, much better food!

Reply

THANKS SO MUCH KATE…you are the best. Spicy hot chocolate!?!? I must have that!

Reply

How to lose a guy in 10 days (Matthew makes my heart melt)

Reply

6 feet….that is AWESOME!!! I am jealous!

Reply

Wow, you are tall! I’m short…5’2″ and a half :) See you SOON!

Reply

HEY YOU! What time are you starting? We better get to meet up?!?! Can you come on Saturday for froyo?

Reply

Dinosaur is delicious, but I thought it was only in upstate NY?

Oh well, lovin the mustard sweats – and you aren’t doing a long run this close to the marathon are you?!

Reply

What a Girl Wants is the cutest movie ever…er maybe it’s cause the boy in it is adorable. ;-)

I will have to say Italian for sure. I could eat it all day everyday. I just wouldn’t fit in my clothes, or the door even, if I did! :)

Reply

I’m 5’4 (not quite but let’s pretend!) and I wish I was a little taller. The good thing is that I can pretty much always wear heels!

I’m Italian so I’ll go with that but Mexican is just sooooooooooo good!

Watch SATC episodes – it will help get you in the NYC spirit!

Reply

I will pretend with you…I never wear heels ha so we are probably the same height when you are in heels:) Good call on SATC!

Reply

Um, I’m 5’3″. I feel very short right now :)

Reply

No you are normal….I am the strange one:)

Reply

Chick Flick: Maybe Cold Mountain.
Tacquito’s.
Italian. Definitely Italian.

The Kidless Kronicles

Reply

Mexican food is probably my favorite type of food (up there with Chinese). I usually order the chile verde or chile colorado and lately I’ve been loving fish taco (grilled not fried). But I also love nachos and enchiladas. So many choices, and so delicious!
I’m 5’6″ and always wanted to be at least an inch or two taller because my legs are so short. They’re oomp loompa-ish and I’d love them to be longer (and thinner).

Reply

My favorite chick flick is “A Walk to Remember” as well. I even have the soundtrack. A close second is “The Notebook.” We have so many wonderful Mexican food restaurants here, but I usually stick with Enchilada’s or Fajita’s. I’m 5’8″. Wow, a choice between Mexican and Italian is hard. I would have to say Italian.

Reply

Giiirrrllll….no way I can pick just one fave chick flick! I like The Ugly Truth, how to lose a day in 10 days, 27 dresses…etc etc etc. :)

I would eat Mexican food every day but I live in San Diego where the Mexican food is amazing. Mmmmm burritos!

I’m 5’5″. I didn’t realize you were so tall!

You are gonna rock NY! Have fun!

Reply

I am only 5’3″… I’d prb do mexican!! Have a great amazing time out there in NYC!!!!!!! Wooohoooooo!

Favorite chick flick would have to be The Notebook and it looks like I’m not alone- that’s good!
I could really just eat chips, salsa and guacamole at a Mexican restaurant- but I also like a good chimichanga. I would choose Italian if I had to pick one to eat everyday, though!
I am 5’8 and just BARELY shorter than the husband.
Good luck in NY! Love love the sweats! I’m way jealous of all the good food you will be eating.

Reply

YOU GET THOSE MUSTARD SWEATPANTS. I so needed a $1.50 pair of sweatpants to toss for MCM!

OOOH, a walk to remember or the notebook. they tie. maybe a walk to remember. you’ve swayed me.

I adore fajitas.

I’m 5’9″!

hmmm… I think I’d go for the italian. although that’s a really rough decision to make.

Reply

Favorite Chick Flick – The Holiday!
I usually order fajitas or a tostada and I would ALWAYS choose Mexican food over Italian. I’m 5’6″. I used to always be the tallest girl in my class when I was little then I just stopped growing!

Reply

Oh and I’ve never been to NY but my friend went and there is a place you might like – Momofuku Milk Bar. They have milk flavored as different cereals and apparently really good cookies too!

Reply

WHAT?!?! That place sounds incredible…flavored milk? Thanks so much Danica!

Reply

My favorite chick flick is probably Mean Girls. Does that count? I’m not really sure what the specific definition is! If that’s not one, then I’ll choose You’ve Got Mail. Surely that qualifies.

I usually order some sort of giant vegetarian burrito.

I’m 5’11.75″. What I would give for one more quarter!

Italian food! Golly, it’s good.

Reply

Mean Girls totally counts…..I am obsessed with that movie….ONE QUARTER AWAY!!!

Reply

Divine secrets of the Ya-Ya sisterhood, great movie!
Shrimp tacos if I know it is a good Mexican place.
I’m 5′ 6″ and I would have to go with Mexican food but that would be hard to carb load on before a race. heehee

Reply

I went to Dinosaur BBQ last month with a bunch of guy friends. We all agreed it was some of the best BBQ we’ve ever had. We had to wait an hour and a half for a table (you can make reservations, but only if it’s a DAY in advance apparently), but we agreed the food was worth the wait. Do it. You won’t be sorry!

Reply

haha no way, for some reason i always thought you were short!? :D

i’m about 5’7.5″ .. wish i was 5’8″ !

so excited for you, go NYC!!! :)

Reply

My best long run ever was fueled by Taco Bell.

I love those movies too!! :) Bon voyage!

Reply

I LOOOOOOVE Mexican food and could eat it every night. Chips and salsa are my friend. And I’m usually a chicken quesadilla girl, but lately I’ve been into chicken tacos.

I’m 5’6″ 1/2 (that 1/2 is important).

And I love many many chick flicks, but my all time fave is “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” (vintage SJP).

Reply

um, I used to know Girls Just wanna have fun like line for line. no joke. not sure I should admit that :)

Reply

Me too! I think I could still recite a majority of the movie. For example, I remember that Janie’s phone number is 555-4102 in the movie. Why do I still know that?!!?

Reply

Oh you are going to rock the crap out of those mustard sweats. I can’t wait to hear all about your trip & race – you’re going to have the BEST time!

Move to Cali ASAP all my friends here are shorties. You, SR & I can tower over everyone together.

Reply

Freaking love mexican, love all of those movies, love those yellow sweats, and LOVE YOU!! I can’t believe you are 5’9! Dang I wish I were tall. :( You are so gorgeous Janae and I just love you to peices. You are going to totally rock NYC!! That city better watch out.

Reply

You don’t look like you are that tall! Although I am 5’10” and ppl tell me that they always ‘forget how tall I am’ whatever that means :)

I’m sure you are going to kill it at the marathon, especially w/ those sweats on!

Reply

you MUST goto Levain Bakery (167 West 74th Street) when you are in NYC…they have the most MASSIVE ooey gooey cookies ever! I’m undecided whether or not to go watch– I don’t how how the crowds will be but I’ve lived here for 6 years and never went to see the marathon… i think it is finally time!

Reply

love u

Reply

You should go to Friend of a Farmer for brunch. Pumpkin pancakes!!! And you MUST MUST MUST go to Westville for dinner (you can get 4 AMAZING sides for your meal – lots of veggies!!!) It’s my absolute favorite.

I must look for you in the marathon, too!!

Reply

GIRL…thank you so much for the recommendations…lots of veggies, YUM!! Oh yes please do and do you think you can meet for froyo on Saturday at 1?

Reply

hehe I’ll definitely try to!!! 16 handles is my faveeeee

Reply

Those four movies are great!!! I always find those but only like 2 of them! I hope my Walmart has them when I go home for thanksgiving!!!

The mustard yellow sweat pants made me LOL – in class which isn’t a good thing. The weather for my race this weekend is supposed to be in the mid 70’s so no throw away clothes for me this time.
I don’t think Rudy counts as a chick flick but I love it and cry every time I see it.
Have fun in NYC and enjoy. Can’t wait to hear about it.

Reply

70’s….ahhh! What time does it start at? I can’t wait to read all about your first marathon WAHOO!

The mustard yellow sweat pants made me LOL during class. Luckily the weather for my race this weekend is supposed to be in the mid 70s so no throw away clothes for me.

You are so cute!!! LOVE the mustard sweats!

1. Does Clueless count as a chick flick?? Cus it’s my favourite movie EVER, but I like to think of it as a “universal” film because of that… hm. In denial, maybe? If not, I’d have to say I LOVE A Walk to Remember!!! SO sad, but SO good! I have the soundtrack, too ;)

2. If it’s a baja-style mexican restaurant (una mas, rubio’s, etc) I always order fish tacos! If it’s authentic Mexican, I loves me some chicken fajitas! or tacos! And always ask for black beans, yums. And guac on EVERYTHING is a must!

3. I’m 5’8″, almost 5’9″, too! Yay!

4. Mexican. I could eat Mexican every. single. day. And I sometimes do. I work at an Italian restaurant, and definitely get sick of the spaghetti. (GASP, I know!)

Reply

Yes, Clueless totally counts. Fish tacos are the bomb.com!! Wahoo, we are the same height! Hope you are having an amazing day Katie and send me your leftover spaghetti okay;)

Reply

A Cinderella Story is one of my favorite movies! Hilary duff was like my role model growing up:)

Reply

Chick flick: The Notebook
Mexican: anything!
Height: 5’5 and 3/4 (yes I am one of those people, have to be exact!)

For sure mexican!!! The chips and salsa rock my world!

Reply

I’m 5’8″

…and if there is a good fish taco on the menu, I will get it. I LOVE fish tacos. Or any sort of fun taco (like pulled pork). There’s a fish taco place here called Jimmy Hula’s that is amazing.

Italian!

When are you getting to NY? What are your plans pre-race? Meeting up with any readers/bloggers? If so, let me know.

Reply

HEY YOU!!! We are going to meet up on Saturday at 1 for froyo and on Sunday after the race for cupcakes…can you come?

Reply

I don’t know about Saturday. I might be heading to NJ to see my friends’ new baby. But I am hoping to come to the city post-marathon. Keep me posted on the dets please. ALSO – I am volunteering in the morning. I’ll keep you posted on where to find me in Fort Wadsworth.

I am 5′ 7″ it’s a good height :)

I think I would roll with Mexican

Reply

Okay I thought you were like 5’3″! But looking at the picture of you and your friends, I guess I underestimated!

I’m 5’9 3/4″

I love Fast and the Furious movies (they total count for chick flicks because those are some hot men!) ok, and just about every chick flick known to women is my fav!

I’m totally jealous you get to run the NYC mara!! I’m on hiatus and obsessing with R.I.C.E. becuase lovely PF decided to make home in my foot.

Gotta say after R.I.C.E.ing my injury I don’t ever want to see any more rice, so it’s Italian all the way! Plus I am obsessed with all things pizza!!

P.S. Love your blog!

Reply

JADE!!! Thank you so much for your comment…you made my day! Oh girl…I am so sorry about for foot, that is a bummer! KEEP RICING and keep me updated with how you are recovering! You are a whole inch taller than me:)

Reply

you MUST eat at Carmine’s if you can. When I was growing up in CT and my Aunt lived in NYC she would bring Carmine’s takeout all the way to the ‘burbs to us because it was SO amazing. The portions are ginormous, so great for re-carb loading post-marathon.
Also, I’ll be in NYC for the weekend (boyfriend lives on the marathon course) and would LOVE to meet up with you guys for fro-yo Saturday. The weather looks perfect the whole weekend and you are going to rock the marathon!!!!!!

Reply

AHHHHH PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE COME MEET UP!!! Does Saturday at 1 work? We are going to meet at the 16 Handles at 82nd and 2nd Avenue!! I hope I get to meet you and I better get me some Carmine’s!

Hugs Janae!!

Ahhhh have so so so much fun on your trip! So super excited for you :)

Favorite Chick Flick? Sweet Home Alabama.

What Do I Order At Mexican Rest? Depends on my mood! San Diego has such good restaurants, its insane. Love fresh tortillas with a side of beans and salsa fresca. Also love quesadillas or fish tacos!

How Tall Am I?: 5’4- maybe 5’4 1/2 on a good day!

Mexican or Italian? Italian fo sho :) My maiden name is 10 letters and 5 syllables.

Reply

I’ve had Carmines and it’s soo good! My favorite restaurant there was Strip House too. I think that’s the name of it? They don’t only have steak which is good but I remember everything was amazing. It was expensive though, luckily I didn’t pay hah.
I’d have to say the Notebook. But a walk to remember is up there too!
I usually order different things but I like fajitas because of all the grilled veggies they give you :)
I’m about 5’9 too !
Um…. I’d say italian.

Reply

Im six foot one!

I cannot watch A Walk to Remember without crying.
KILL IT IN NEW YORK! :)

Reply

Probably Italian. Favorite chick flick is Miss Congeniality, or Serendipity. I didn’t know you were that tall! That’s awesome. I’m almost 5’7” Have fun in NY!

Reply

I agree with the Serendipity recommendations – watch the movie AND go drink their frozen hot chocolate while you are in NYC!! In fact, watch the movie before you go (or on the plane) because it takes place in NYC (obviously) and then you will feel super cool when you go there!

I am only 5’4″ (shorty) and I have run NYCM. It is pure awesomeness. You are going to ROCK IT!

Reply

I hate chick flicks! Seriously though I cover my eyes whenever there is kissing on TV.

I would probably say Italian but really I’ll eat almost anything happily. I’m currently into Spring Rolls at a local Thia restaurant called Mini Siagon.

I’m 5’4″
You’re going to have so much fun! (Be sure to eat at a food cart- the potato pancake things with mustard are so yummy!)

Reply

Favorite chick flick: Pretty in Pink (I’m a girl of the 80’s!)

I love to order salad in a bowl (the edible bowl)-can’t remember the name of the dish at this moment. Tostada salad maybe?

I am a whopping 4’10”! It used to be fun being short but how I’d give anything to be at least 5′. Oh well! I think I am your shortest follower!

Have a great day!

Reply

STACY! I’m only 4’11 (and a half haha) – so I totally feel you! When I graduated college I was barely 4’10 and then somehow I grew a little bit somehwere along the way??? I’m not sure how, but I hope it happens again! Short people rock. :)

Reply

CARMINES! <3
Isn't Dinosaur BBQ the place where Michael Symon says he goes on "The Best Thing I Ever Ate…"?

5'4"- 5'5" it weirdly changes HA

GO CRAZY in NYC; make sure you shop afterwards :)

Reply

Momofuku Milk Bar for dessert….looks right up your alley. I ate the candy bar pie, there is a glorious photo on my blog. They also have cereal milk soft serve, I didn’t try it, but it sounds delicious.

Reply

5’8″. That was the most random question. I just couldn’t resist answering. Good luck in NYC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Reply

Pomme Frites on 2nd Ave and St. Marks has the best french fries you will ever eat, and has over 20 sauces to choose from! I highly recommend the honey mustard mayo and sweet mango chutney mayo! I promise you won’t regret it! http://www.pommesfrites.ws/menu.htm

Reply

whoaa you are TALL! I would never have guess from your pictures! I’m only 5’1…I feel reeeeaaally short now hahaa. Mmm that mexican food does look pretty awesome, but I think I’d have to go with Italian…if anything because that includes gelato :D

Reply

omg you will love chasing liberty! matthew goode is an absolute hottie and i love mandy moore!

Reply

No kidding!! need to eat at those places. Promise you will not regret eating at any of them! So fun to see you guys. we’ll do it again.

Rockstars!

Definitely Max Brenner. Get the chocolate pizza..with milk chocolate, marshmallows and bananas-legit Smore in your mouth! You can even get peanut butter on it. The veggie burger is large and in charge there!

Reply

I almost bought fleece pants with a cupcake pattern print at WalMart to wear on Sunday morning! My mom thought people might look at me funny so I went with solid blue instead and now I wish I had gone cupcake!

If you go to Max Brenner, take me with you, I have wanted to go for there for SO long!!

Reply

Oh Janae! I am so excited for you! I can’t wait to hear about your NYC marathon experience! I am wishing you tons of luck from NC!

Reply

YES you have to go to Carmines! I’m not even a huge Italian food fan but I went last winter when I went to New York and it was seriously some of the BEST food I’ve ever had. Try and go at an awkward eating time or a really early dinner because it is ALWAYS packed with a huge wait and they even stop accepting people for the wait list. We had to try 3 different times to go and finally we were able to eat at a bar top table which isn’t ideal but it was 100% worth it. There’s also this really cute bakery that I can’t remember the name of but it was right across the street from the Marriott Marquis in time square and they had awesome desserts at really good prices. The sign is HUGE and orange so you can’t miss it!

Reply

At least you will be fashionable in your sweats, since mustard is a good color for the season ;)
I’m a shortie- 5′ 2″ …but I don’t mind it. I can still wear my 5″ heels everyday & still be shorter than Craig.

Fantastic blog! Do you have any tips for aspiring
writers? I’m planning to start my own blog soon but I’m
a little lost on everything. Would you recommend starting with a free platform
like WordPress or go for a paid option? There are so
many choices out there that I’m completely overwhelmed ..
Any ideas? Thanks a lot!
