Just the average day: coming within 5 feet of someone famous.

Yesterday, Billy and I had to run to the bookstore and when we got there we saw a line wrapped around the store.   We had no idea why there were so many people (99% of them were woman) waiting outside in the freezing cold.

Photo 5

And then we saw little ol’ Davey Archuleta signing cds. I knew it was meant to be that we randomly were at the same place and at the same time as David so that I could paparazzi him for 10 minutes and request him to sing a few songs.  Then I tried to get a lock of his hair and I was kindly escorted out of the store by that police officer above.

Photo 5 copy

My sincere apologies for the close-up.

After our star sighting we met up with my Billy’s brother.  He drove down from Idaho today and will drive with us to Cali tomorrow.  Doesn’t his hair look like Conan O ‘Brien’s….okay, maybe not in the picture but in real life it does.  For those of you that read my blog in the summer, this is the fanny pack/half-ironman BIL.  He is also my favorite person to chase ice cream trucks with.

He was really excited for his hot dog (he requests we go to J-Dawgs anytime he is here) and didn’t want to take a break for a picture.

Photo 5

The sister and I weren’t really in the mood for hot dogs but got Subway (right next door) instead.

Photo 8

Guess what.  The same Subway (next door to J-dawgs) also has a froyo place in it.  My heaven.  The base of my 2 pounder was this:

Photo 6

My BIL has enriched my life with his idea to add toppings to the bottom and the top of the froyo.  I am actually quite embarassed that I didn’t think of this before.

Photo 7

Gotta get my sweat on EARLY this morning so that I don’t go crazy on the 10 hour drive after school today.  I don’t even want to think about what time my alarm clock is set for as I am writing this.  Lame, I just did and it made my heart hurt.

That is so cool that you got to see him! What a random place for him to turn up! Adding toppings to the bottom of the fro-yo is such a great idea, I eat it so much I can’t believe I haven’t thought of that genius. lol. Have a safe trip to Cali and have a great Thanksgiving!
I once saw Michelle Pfifer when I was in California, but I didn’t get close enough to get a good picture. Shucks. :/

Hey lady :)

You can’t really call it a “celebrity sighting” because I was at his concert (haha) but Keith Urban walked through the crowd at one point during the show and I grabbed his bicep/ran my fingers through his hair…. pre-husband of course… nowadays I only have eyes for one guy ;)

Reply

I have watched a few seasons of American Idol, but nowhere near all of them, I kind of dig it. That is super cool that you had a celebrity sighting, I don’t think I have ever seen one. My husband used to see a ton of them at one of his old jobs, he’s obviously way cooler than me. :-P I don’t have “real” Thanksgiving this year, but I’m super excited to get out of India and eat meat at every single meal!

Reply

I don’t watch American Idol or any other reality show. I’ve never been able to get into them.

My favorite Thanksgiving food is my grandma’s stuffing. I don’t know what she does to it but no one else’s comes anywhere close to hers. I eat pounds of it every year then cry that I can’t button any of my pants.

Have a safe trip!

Subway AND frozen yogurt? Sounds like a plan. I’ve seen Uma Thurman, Jennifer Hudson, President Obama aaaaand that’s all I can think of right now. Haha.

Reply

I like watching American Idol during the early episodes where everyone stinks! It’s always great for a laugh.

As for famous people, I’ve met Dennis Rodman (funny story about that one, I’ll have to save it for a future blog), Hugh Heffner and random other people that I didn’t recognize (I’m celebrity stupid). I’ve seen Bruce Willis and Keanu Reeves, but didn’t have my camera on me (this was in my teens when I didn’t have a camera phone either!

And Thanksgiving, wow, ummm, everything? But mostly Cranberry Salad – it’s a cran-jello inspired dish with dream whip on top. So sweet and tasty. Then bring on the gravy.

Reply

That is such a random celebrity sighting haha..I never thought to put toppings on the bottom either, but that is a really good idea!

Reply

Ha, I just had to google David Archuleta cause I had no idea who he is….clearly, I don’t watch AI! (But see how cool I am now that i used the abbreviation?!)

I met Bon Jovi a few years back when I was a dancer–it was when he owned an arena football team and they played in Denver and my team was performing at the half time show. He watched us warm up and we all just turned into a crew of giggling school girls. Once again, sooooo not cool :)

Reply

Double dose of toppings- your BIL is onto something! We don’t celebrate Thanksgiving at home but a few friends and I are going to Thanksgiving dinner at a restaurant- bring on the pie!…a la mode please!

Reply

Genius with the toppings at the bottom! Now to drive 90 mins to get some :)
I always look forward to cranberry sauce and sweet potatoes the most.
Have a safe trip to California!

Being an actor, I’ve had the good fortune to meet and sometimes not so fortunately meet a lot of famous people. High? Amy Poehler. Low? Gerard Butler-gah.

I have a pecan pie sitting on my counter, right.now. for real. I want to eat it all.

what you need for your 10 hour drive is audible.com Pick something that could make Billy REALLY uncomfortable. Something with a lot of saucy scenes!

I used to love American Idol and I actually liked David Archuleta when he was competing. I think I remember him being from a really down to earth family and being a nice person. It’s always fun when you run into someone famous because it doesn’t happen often. Happy Thanksgiving!!

Have never seen American Idol but like some of the artists. Daughtry is a local favorite here.
I seem to run into politicians frequently. And ministers. Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, John Kerry (pre-presidential run). I did Will Smith and Jada at dinner in NYC once.
Apple Pie and Green Bean Casserole.

OK. So I’m sorry to admit that I don’t know who that guy is. But I’m glad you got to meet him! I can’t even think of a famous person I’ve been within five feet of. Maybe like the North Dakota governor? Ha.

What a cool run in. I don’t watch the show regularly, but I did enjoy his singing during his season.

Not a regular commenter here, but that froyo place – Spoon It Up – is probably the number one thing I miss about living in Provo (besides my Utah friends of course.) I literally think about it every day, even though I’ve been gone for well over a year.

The only Thanksgiving food I like is mashed potatoes.

Reply

HEY EMILY…I am so happy you commented! Come back to Provo and go to Spoon it up with me:) SO GOOD!! Enjoy your mashed potatoes!

He is my little brother’s idol! When he didn’t win AI my brother cried and cried for days – I felt bad but it was a little funny!

I used to love American Idol but stopped watching it after Carrie Underwood haha, but this past week I just worked out with Richard Simmons! Seriously the sweetest man ever, and I got a picture and a kiss on the cheek from him :) He gave a little speech afterward the workout and got all choked up, so sweet!

Hahah how exciting! I never watched American Idol. I’ve seen Justin Bieber and Mario Batali :)

Tiger Woods, pre-womanizing scandle (so I was pretty excited about it) and Lance Armstrong at the Tour de Georgia.

Most looking forward to the leftovers. My aunt sends everyone with a plate of turkey, and we always make a turkey sandwich at like 8:30 in our pj’s and watching tv.

No stress about your car ride. Sit back, relax, rest your legs, catch up on your sleep, and stop at gas stations for fun car riding snacks.

Your BIL is pure GENIUS!!!! Toppings on bottom, does that mean they aren’t toppings anymore? And frpyo+subway = my heaven!!

Good luck with your drive!!! We have a 7 hour drive on Weds so I need to figure out my workout plan for that morning too. Have a wonderful visit with family!!!

I am most looking forward to my mom’s mashed potatoes, my dad’s sweet potato casserole, and anyone’s pumpkin pie I can get my hands on. Good thing I am running a race Thursday morning!!!

I’ve met Khloe and Lamar Odom, and Steve Aoki!
I’m looking forward to the desserts;) Have a safe drive!

Reply

so basically your BIL has it going on- wears a fanny pack, chases ice cream trucks with you, has famous hair, and gave the great suggestions of toppings on bottom. I’ve always wanted to try that, however everytime I go to Sweet Ceces (Tennessee’s version of froyo) the lines are too long I’d feel like I was cutting and get all these evil glares to bypass the yogurt and head to toppings….. guess I’m going to break some rules next time

Reply

I am making the long drive back home to Ohio after work today, too. Except, unlike you, I didn’t set my alarm extra early to work out. Lazy, lazy, lazy. Hope you had a good work out and drive safely tonight. :) Remind Billy that he has precious cargo (aka YOU!)

Reply

I can’t wait for the curry squash soup we have at thanksgiving. That and desserts.

I can’t think of any celebs I’ve met. My life is sad. lol

Reply

Ohh, I like that tip about putting toppings under your froyo. That’s genius! I’m thinking a graham cracker or Cinnamon Toast Crunch base with some pumpkin froyo on top, topped with some more yummy sugary cereal. I think I know what I am having for lunch!!!

And yes, American Idol fiend over here! I got a little excited when I saw David Archuleta in your picture (even though I was rooting for the other David that season!). :)

hahahah um his hair totallyyy looks likes connon o;brians ahahahahahhahaah hilarious!!!!
never really met anyone famous but my mom did meet regis one time when she was out to dinner!!!!

I met “Brad” from “Home Improvement” a few years back. Well, a lot of years back since that show has not been on in so long. And the only season of American Idol that I watched was the first. Again, many years ago.

I only watch the last episode of each season to see who wins. It’s like skipping baseball all season and just watching the playoffs. (I do that too.) I live in NYC so I have always seen famous people around. I am seldom starstruck, but I was when I met LL Cool J. he is SO hot!

omg. toppings on the bottom of the cup too? What a genius idea, I will be doing that as soon as I get off work today.

So this comment is going to A) Make you laugh B) Make you block all of my future comments. Anywho, so speaking of meeting people you’ve only seen via tv or internet, I had one of those weird dreams where there are 20 different parts to it and they do not make sense at all. In one of those parts, I met you and we were just having a hay day about running and such. It was grand. Sorry to creep you out haha

The most famous person I ran into was Richard Dreyfus at a Sun Valley book store (a looooong time ago before I was married).

One of my traditions is to have pomegranite salad, with pomegranite, pineapple tidbits, apple chunks, whipped cream, sprinkled with chopped pecans. YUMMY.

I can’t wait until Thursday this is the longest work week of my liiiife!

How exciting!! I watch American Idol once it gets down to the final 5!

I recently went on a trip to L.A with a couple of my girlfriends and we ended up sitting in a restaurant, and while we were being seated, I realized our booth was attached to another booth and ADRIAN GRENIER from entrouage was sitting there. Oh my heavens. I HAD to get up and talk to him.. he’s my obsession! He was super cool actually!! We also saw the cast of “The Doctors” at the same restaurant, but we didn’t get to talk to them!

Adrian Grenier is HOT. Just sayin :)

Ahhhhh you all should come run the Oceanside Turkey Trot 5 miler with us on Thursday morning :)

Toppings on the bottom of the yogurt cup? Brilliant.

Back in the 80s (dating myself) I met a lot of athletes since we went to those golf tours at Pebble Beach (think Joe Montana, Mark McGuire). I think I was even on the news because I was the girl who somehow got to meet all of the celebs, lol. I met Donald Trump in the early 90s and had him autograph a $1 bill. I AM CHEESY! I have met Rascal Flatts more than once and may have tried to hang out way longer than allowed ,lol.

Now in my “adult” years majority of my clients are celebs so I get to talk to many on the phone! Now if I could just convince them that they NEED me in their entourage I could quit my job, lol!

i dont watch american idol…i was a die hard fan season one but then when clay aiken didnt win in season 2 i was so upset that i boycotted the event and havent watched since (hardcore i know)

being a former employee of jcrew i saw a lot of celebrities while working there..most noteable are mark macgrath (sugar ray), natalie portman (literally weeks before she announced her pregnancy!!), glenn close, alan rickman(professor snape in the flesh!), isla fisher (nicest person EVER), elizabeth hassleback, francis mcdormat (sp? she was in something’s gotta give as the sister), mena suarvino (sp?)…i’ve also seen otehrs at improv shows since ive taken improv classes; amy poehler, seth meyers, rachel dratch, bobby moynhahan, zack wood (from the office)…there are others but unless you’ve watched a lot of vh1 you wouldnt know who they are haha

for thanksgiving i have two plates and one is dedicated entirely to stuffing; half covered with gravy half without..i also make an awesome butternut squash casserole mainly because its sugar and vanilla wafers on top of butternut squash…and of course pumpkin pie with whipped cream and pecan pie…2 days!!!

I’ve always wanted to try layering the toppings! Like making them a barrier for all the different types of fro-yo so they don’t mix. I’m totally doing it next time. One time I was at DisneyLand and Oprah was filming a show there – and John Stamos (Jesse from Full House) was there too. I was like 10 feet away from them, it was pretty cool. Local celebrities – Lavell Edwards (Steve sold him a microwave), and Steve Young – I sold him a lawn mower. :)

Reply

Good idea on the layers….I will copy you! It could be kind of like a parfait:) YOU SAW OPRAH….oh my goodnesssssss!

Mmm…I go so far as to turn my yogurtland creation into a parfait. Toppings, yogurt, toppings, yogurt, TOPPINGS. Seriously fabulous! Have you drizzled a little sweetened condensed milk on your yogurt before? Also fab. :) I want some yogurt.

Brilliant Amy, you are absolutely brilliant.

Your sarcasm always cracks me up. You poke at yourself and I just laugh out loud. Anyway, haven’t watched American Idol regularly in years, I’ve met Dan Marino on the street and took a family picture with him and then cropped out his wife’s head. (You think I’m lying but I’m not. I have really good photo editing software). I’ve also met Cyndi Lauper and Joan Jett. None of these compare to David Archuleta of course. I’m with you on the stuffing and the rolls and the cream cheese mashed potatoes. Help.

I am then forced to find them on twitter to prove to him that “no, that was not Chelsea Handler pumping gas down the street from our house” or “Yes, I’m positive that Burt Reynolds has the same dr. as you here in Michigan”
