How the Jacobs spend Thanksgiving:

I think that this is the longest time that I have gone without blogging since I started over a year ago.  I have good reasons.

1.  We made a fort (If you are a first time reader this is not a blog written by a toddler and no, there is not anyone under the age of 17 in this household).  6 young adults fit nicely quite comfortably there.   You have to understand, when Billy and his 3 brothers (especially the fanny pack brother) get together there is always something random going on.

IMG 0835

We prepared for our meal by watching episodes of the Office in the fort, I even fell asleep for a little while.  Grandpa brought up snacks for us when we got hungry including these amazing ham rolls (ham, cream cheese, jalepenos and green onions).

IMG 0828

Basically just upscale sushi;)

Yesterday morning I woke up and the boys all went to play football (they chose football over running with me?!?!) and I ended up running 15 miles (not on purpose, I was kind of lost trying to find where they were playing football to get a ride home with them and never found them so I had to run home too) so I worked up quite the appetite.

IMG 0845

The sweet potatoes were my favorite followed directly by the stuffing and rolls.

IMG 0848

I had to help Billy finish off his plate too, it is a tough life I live.

IMG 0850

1st round of dessert with my favorite dessert partner.

IMG 0855

2nd round of dessert (I added a piece of pumpkin pie to that bowl and called it good, although I did save some for my breakfast):

IMG 0857

Now as I am typing this there is an intense game of ping pong going on and I just got hit in the forehead.

That is the facial expression of a champion.

IMG 0858

I have never seen him laugh so hard……

I”m avoiding all malls but I am going out to a local outdoor shopping area. There’s a ton of cute shops so hopefully it won’t be as busy as all of the department stores..

Reply

Hope you have a blast at the outdoor shopping area…..I am like you and will be avoiding all department stores!

Reply

janae! You are hilarious and adorable all at the same time! Billy’s bros remind me of my Hubs’ brothers too- get all three of them together and it’s chaos- good, fun, crazy chaos! The forts are awesome- I could’ve used that after my Turkey Trot yesterday:-) As a blogger, I feel guilty if I haven’t written in a week, but I’m getting better! Best food yesterday? Pumpkin pie of course! Toodles!

Reply

Jodi, you are so nice. CONGRATS on your turkey trot, can’t wait for the recap on your blog wahoo!! Glad you enjoyed some pumpkin pie!

Reply

Love the recap. Your thanksgiving outfit = one i would borrow if we lived closer and could raid each other’s closets.

I surprised myself yesterday because the things I went back for seconds of were green bean casserole, brussel spouts (in some sauce that was drug like), and cornbread.

No shopping, however maybe some online purchases. My mom is ready to get her shopping done, and I want her to get me a Garmin. In fact I am going to go to your gear page now.

Reply

I would love to share closets with you:) Okay, green bean casserole is the BEST and I might need the brussel sprouts sauce recipe:) You need to get a Gamin:) My mom is done with her shopping too….we usually do it two days before Christmas! Have an amazing day Erica.

I was going to take a break yesterday, but I had a little free time in the afternoon and just felt like sayings something about the holiday!! I’m glad you had a great time with your family, I used to LOVE building forts! I don’t know why they are so much fun… even at this age, haha

Reply

CONGRATS on your awesome 5k and your brussels sprouts sound so good:)

Reply

I had pumpkin gooey butter cake and it was amazing. :)

Longest time without blogging … probably a couple of days. I usually don’t blog on the weekends. And right now, I’m procrastinating on writing a post because my brain is still in a food-induced coma! ;)

Have a great time with your family!

Reply

Um, I need that butter cake! HA…I think the food coma will be lasting the whole time I am here in Cali!

Reply

I might shop later, my daughter is doing a service project at school and there are great deals on kids jackets, hats & gloves. I will shop on line this weekend. My favorite food was stuffing with gravy and my sister’s apple pie YUM!

Reply

That is so awesome that your daughter is out doing a service project right now! I am an online shopper too:) Glad you got to enjoy your sister’s apple pie!

Reply

My sister and I still make forts! And read those books where you choose your own ending (turn to page 33 if you want to fight the dragon, turn to page 54 if you want to go home and be a loser).

Reply

Those books are the best. Why don’t all books do that;) Hope you are having an amazing day Lindsay!

Reply

Excellent fort! Haha glad you had a great Thanksgiving :)

Reply

No Thanksgiving for me here. Boo. Best thing I ate at Thanksgiving last month though was stuffing! I love it so much! Mmmm carby goodness.

I think I have taken a good two days off blogging. Sometimes you just need it!

Reply

Next year I think you should celebrate both and come to down and celebrate Thanksgiving with us too:) Have an amazing day!

Reply

Sounds like an awesome time!! :D
I decided sleep was way more appealing than black friday :)
Apple crisp with vanilla icecream was definitely my favorite part.
The longest break was probably a couple days!
I didn’t have pie yesterday, just the crisp! I will be having pumpkin pie later today though :D

Reply

Sleep always wins for me too:) Um, now I need some apple crisp with ice cream! Enjoy your pie later today!

Reply

I will never go to Black Friday, I’m thankful I have never done it and probably never will. Besides, my favorite store is Fleet Feet and they don’t have Black Friday deals.
Longest without blogging was like a month?…on my old pre-wedding blog. It was when it first started and I didn’t bother with it.
Best thing I ate was hands down, pumpkin pecan pie! I even ate it for breakfast this morning :-)

Reply

Looks like a great Thanksgiving, Janae!
We aren’t going shopping today – no way! Last year I went for the first time, and it was absolutely crazy. It was a fun experience, but I don’t know if I need to do it again for a long time. ;)
The best thing I ate for Thanksgiving was my stepdad’s sweet potato casserole. Ahhh I love it. So so good.
I had a sliver of pumpkin cheesecake and a sliver of apple pie a la mode! So so good.

Reply

and days off from blogging totaly needed sometimes! need a little break from it all and just come back refreshed!

Reply

Mmmm, I’m with you on the sweet potatoes.

Yesterday was the closest I’ve ever come to throwing up after Thanksgiving dinner. The “You better stop eating or you’re going to be sick” trigger fired way, way too late. It was worth it though.

Reply

Love the fort!! Looks like you all had a great Thanksgiving… lots to be thankful for this year :)

Reply

Um NO I don’t go out shopping today.. NO WAY. I was down from blogging for a couple of months. Your pics look so great! What a wonderful family you have!!

Reply

You fort is ah-mazing. I would never have left it. Ever. Hehe

You ran 15 miles? You are amazing. As always. Ha, I love how easily you can bounce right back. I would be on the couch all day, ha.

Your thanksgiving looks just delicious though! YUMMY! Dessert is definitely my favorite. Pumpkin pie plus whipped cream..feed me!!

Have a great rest of your day!! :)

Reply

It looks like you had an amazing Thanksgiving! That fort looks like a total blast. I cannot lie, your post makes me miss my sister like crazy :(

Reply

BOOO to not being near your sis…when do you get to see her again?

Reply

Probably not for a year or so…she just left on peace corps assignment to Thailand, which is pretty exciting for her, so I can’t be too sad. I was lucky too, we got to spend a week together at DisneyWorld before she left.

On the bright side, this gives me the perfect excuse to visit Thailand!

Reply

I normally do Black Friday shopping but had to pass this year do to a 6 week old little girl who isn’t sleeping thru the night yet. I missed going but Peyton made up for it sleeping 6 hours straight. We are traveling back to our home in Dallas today to have another Thanksgiving dinner at my Aunts house. My favorite thing about the food is my mom’s cornbread stuffing. I also love pumpkin pie. I’ve gone 4 weeks without blogging once because we were moving and didn’t have internet access. It drove me crazy.

Reply

I have missed your updates but I completely understand you have been crazy busy and no internet. WAHOO for Peyton sleeping for SIX HOURS STRAIGHT, that is so awesome. Have an amazing day Tabaitha!

Reply

No Thanksgiving here…super sad, obviously, so I don’t want to talk about it. No pie, no turkey trot, no nothing.

Still loving the fanny pack brother….obviously.

Reply

I am sorry Sierra! Hope today is better:)

Reply

I have some Kohls cash that has expired so I need to try to go in and talk them into letting me use it. I only want a pair of jeans! I haven’t blogged in a while due to a family issue (my moms in the hospital) but I look forward to returning.

The sweet potatoes last night were to DIE for.

Reply

I hope that they let you use it and you get some hot jeans!
I am really sorry about your mom!! Thinking about you!

Reply

You guys always look like you’re having the best time! I love the fort, totally brings me back to childhood :) Stuffing won the award for “best thing I ate” yesterday but, it was all delicious as always.

Reply

Glad you had AMAZING stuffing!! So glad you got to sleep in this morning!

Reply

I have never seen ham roll ups made that way. We make them with ham, cream cheese, and pickles! YUMMMMMMMY!

Reply

PICKLES…that is brilliant. You have changed my life, thank you!

Reply

It is amazing! I now make sandwiches with cream cheese, ham, and pickles that were inspired by the roll ups :)

Reply

I was going to comment about the same thing (pickles+cream cheese+ ham roll ups). We call them frog eyes in Missouri. They are SO GOOD. Enjoy if you make them. :)

Reply

Frog eyes…. I love it! I will be making them, thanks!

Reply

I am more fearful of the malls today than I am of trying to run an ultra-marathon untrained. Yep. It’s that bad. I guess i’m not a real girl or something?!

Did you save me some sweet potatoes? Those look amazing and are my fave too…we didn’t have any last night!

Reply

Yep, I am mailing them to you today:) HA….loved your analogy of what you would rather do!

Reply

glad yall had fun! hope your legs feel good after your 15 miles!

this week has actually been my longest blogging break. I havent felt like blogging since Monday and just had nothing to say.

my fave were the sweet potatoes yesterday and my favorite pie is apple which didnt get made so I made my oatmeal into an apple pie of sorts this morning

Reply

I have those weeks too!! Great run today! Seriously, sweet potatoes are the bomb.com!

Reply

Happy Post-Thanksgiving, Janae!

Oh man, we ate a delicious turkey-and-stuffing-filled dinner. Then I took a coma for about 3 hours. This morning, I woke up and celebrated Black Friday with a short run. I came back and did my shopping in bed on my laptop :)

Not a blogger, but I went a whole day without ready blogs yesterday!

Reply

HEY YOU!!! That is why I didn’t blog yesterday, I knew you weren’t reading any all day;) I am so glad you had such an amazing meal and run this morning!

Reply

There was some extreme fort-making for our Thanksgiving as well, but I have to admit there were kids involved. I love the idea of an adults for. I have a feeling my husband’s would end up with a big screen TV in it though. ;)

Your evening looks beautiful … love the genuine smiles and laughter going on … I can see the happiness through the pics!

I would love to run 15 miles not on purpose … :) … tell me how do I do that??

I will NOT shop today … really no deal is worth the hassle for me …

I often go without blogging due to my work/travel commitments … but I try to post at least once a day …

Reply

Thanks so much girl! Ha, I agree with you…..nothing could have gotten me out of my warm bed this morning to go stand in lines! Have an amazing day!

Reply

does billy’s brother know that the entire blog world knows him as “the fanny-pack brother”?? lol! You totally have the greatest family – forts and ping pong and football FTW! I think the best thing (besides pumpkin pie, that’s a given) that I ate yesterday was these brussel sprouts and grapes sauteed with olive oil and balsamic vinegar…sounds really weird but they were addictive!!

Reply

Yep, and he loves it ha! Um….your brussels sprouts sound INCREDIBLE!! I might need the recipe. Have an amazing day Kate!

Reply

I went last night from 9pm to 4am, slept from 4-8 am. Woke when DH was coming in from his 20 miler. Then decided to go again today and finish up shopping. I think I am done! I had a bite of pumpkin and fresh lemon meringue pie…….yum! Love your top!

Reply

DANG….Leonor, you are hardcore! Way to go and I bet that feels so good to be all done shopping! Lemon meringue is one of my faces. Thanks for your comment!

Reply

What is the big bowl of fluffy white stuff?

No shopping for me, I hate crowds and people that are crazed by silly deals. I will not wrestle someone just to get a sweater for $10 cheaper then it would usually be. These days you can get amazing deals online, which is perfect because you don’t have to leave your house or change out of your one to shop!

Reply

It is whipped cream!! I KNOW…I am currently shopping online in my pjs and on the couch! Why would I ever leave! Have an amazing day gorgeous girl!

Reply

Looks like a blast! It’s always fun to act like kids with your family!

Reply

It looks like you had a great Thanksgiving!

Shopping online – can’t stand the crazy crowds on Black Friday!
Didn’t blog for about 1 month – felt bad and deprived!
Ate Chocolate Bourbon Pecan pie yesterday – yum!!

Reply

Are you/did you go shopping today? How early did you go?

Yup, but I didn’t get out of bed til 7. There were no doorbusters that caught my fancy this year.

What was the best thing you ate on Thanksgiving?

Pork stuffing and cranberry salad… my favvvvorites!

If you are a blogger, what is the longest break you have taken from blogging?

I just got into the blogging thing, so I would say since I’ve been doing it “regularly” just a weekend is the longest I’ve been away! I’m hooked~!

What type of pie did you have yesterday?

Pumpkin!!!

Reply

Pork stuffing…I have never had that before, I MUST try it! Blogging really is so addicting! Have an amazing day!

Reply

how fun!! you’re making me sad i didnt go see my family this turkey day :(. i love those place cards…it looks like you guys had a great day!!

oh and pumpkin pie…always pumpkin pie!

Reply

Haha love the fort!! And you guys aren’t the only adults who still make them–last year I went away for the weekend and got home to find that my roommates had turned the family room of our apartment into a giant fort!

And I am not going black friday shopping (HATE crowds) and loved yesterday’s pumpkin soup and pumpkin pie!

Reply

I LOVE IT!!! That fanny pack brother is a hoot :) I want to go and make a hut now…you’re kids are going to be so lucky. If I built forts with my son he would be in heaven. Have a fun trip!!

Reply

Meatless meatballs were definitely better than anticipated and I was a fan of the apple pie crust (I am not into the middle part..I need a vacuum of a BIL or BF so I can donate it to their plate) with vanilla ice cream. But the show stopper was the Pepperidge Farm fish shaped bread..I used for my pre-trot run egg sandwich.. Have you seen it? Your niece would probably love it.

I love Black Friday..but think its more fun to shop online and wait until Christmas Eve its more of a challenge..who needs a month!

Reply

You can donate the middle part of your pie to ME PLEASE:) Um…..I need that bread and I am sure my niece would love it! BAHAHA I am all about the challenge/stress of last minute shopping too. Have an amazing day!

Reply

And those forts remind me of my family reunions..except we use pool rafts too.

Reply

BRILLIANT…..next fort will be made using pool rafts:)

Reply

Looks like you guys had a wonderful thanksgiving! Im jealous you got to play ping pong. Im a serious ping pong competitor! I get way in to it for my own good haha.

Where did you get the white top? i love it!

Reply

Hahahah we will have to play! It is from Bp in Nordstrom!

Reply

Totally thought of you on Thanksgiving. We gad 3 cheesecakes, 3 pies and ice cream.

Reply

Bahahahah!!! Lucky!!! I have to come next year:)

Reply

Good. Next year my MIL is coming and she MAKES seven layer cookies. So they will be part of dessert too

Reply

Looks like such a blast!! I did go shopping, but at a normal time. I wanted to sleep in and go to the gym!

Enjoy your time with family!

Reply

I did go shopping today! But not super early-went around 9am to Jackrabbit sports but couldn’t find a thing that I wanted to buy! Travesty. I made up for it at Banana Republic though. Oops.

Best thing I ate on Thanksgiving were these amazing sweet potatoes with a maple pomegranate glaze on them. Tasted like candy. OMG. I MUST learn how to make them!

Looks like you guys had a great Thanksgiving! Makes me miss my fam!!

Reply

I miss the days of fort-making…

My favorite thing that I ate for thanksgiving would have to be the cranberry relish or the pumpkin pie!

Reply

That fort is so epic!!! Pumpkin Cheesecake over hurr!

Reply

I love the fort!! That makes me so happy. :) I LOVE that Billy is laughing so hard and it was caught on camera. Hilarious. Best thing I ate yesterday? The sweet potatoes!

Reply

You’re life is the greatest. Colin laughed at me when I made a fort WITH Logan…..I can’t imagine what he’d think if I made one alone. If you were there it’d be ok though :P

I love all your thanksgiving food. Forts are great, always in style

Reply

Ok first, I love your blog..It’s always so fun and cheery :) Second, I think I gained a few pounds just lusting over your food spread there…OMG, it all looks SOOO good. And, I envy your fort although I would have the strange urge to ride down all those steps and pull the blankets down just because! My favorite thing is always the ham and the sweet corn casserole! I must try those ham rolls though, they look so good! I don’t do well in the crowds, I get too anxious and someone actually maced a bunch of people over tv’s @ Wally World, no thank you! I did buy my kids Christmas online last night though in the comfort of my own bed and that was fun! I am just starting to blog and haven’t written anything since Tuesday! I get more caught up in reading ;) Have a blessed weekend!

Reply

awww, u poor thing u got lost and still ended up missing the game. :(

haha…forts are awesome, and the fact u tied in the office is even better!

I absolutely went shopping today! I went to Target at 5 AM, went to work for a few hours, and then hit the mall later… and yes, I am slightly ashamed to admit that. Black Friday is such a love/hate thing for me. Do I love cheap DVDs at Target and absurdly good sales on things I probably don’t need? Absolutely. But waking up at 4:30 in the morning to go shopping hurts. A lot.

I loved everything I ate yesterday, so much that I ate it again today. But I think I have to go with my mom’s pumpkin pie. It’s the best. I might have it for breakfast tomorrow.

And I’m the worst blogger ever! I’m super boring so I often don’t feel like I have anything to blog about. Plus, when I go out of town, which has been pretty often this year, I kind of fall off the face of the blogging world. I’m working on it.

Reply

I have never been black friday shopping, I’m not sure that is even worth getting a good deal on something.

Your fort looks AMAZING!!

Reply

I am just now catching up on your blog…looks like you had an excellent Thanksgiving! I love the fort idea.

I went and met my boyfriend’s family for the first time in Georgia and had a great time! We ate lots of southern down home cooking, and I took some days off from working out (ok I did yoga on one of those days) Needless to say I’ll be hitting it pretty hard this week and running a marathon here in Dallas this weekend!

Have a great week!

Reply

um. you two are too cute.

i want to be in a fort; and have upscale sushi =[
hopefully i get to meet you tomorrow woo hooo
