I had to do chores yesterday.
I finally had to clean out my closet of stuff that was still at my parents house. I guess I am supposed to grow up a little and finally donate my dolls, Goosebumps books and Polly Pockets since I don’t use them that often anymore. At least I found my baby blanket, which I will be keeping.
We took a break for dinner. Sugar snap peas, green beans and lasagna.
We were all still hungry after that and so we made some rolls and that did the trick of filling us up.
Back to work, sorting through everything. 1/10th of my barbie collection.
Some of my favorite books and movies from when I was little….sad thing is that movie still is on my top 5 list. I was also really into collecting baseball cards and had a full binder of them, hopefully they might be worth something now;) I also found three dollars hidden in my Snoopy book which made me happier than it should have.
My first ipod ever which is actually the same size as my phone now.
I found the coolest thing ever…..my bff in high school and I made a list of 110 of our goals. Please take note of number 31, I better get there SOON.
Other memorable goals from the list: Learn how to swallow fire, dance on the beach in our wedding dresses, invent a watch that doesn’t leave a tan line, interrupt a faculty meeting while wearing kilts (we were weirdos, that is for sure), be asked to write a letter of recommendation, reinstate the Mayan calendar (?!?!), sneak out at night (sorry mom) and hand out leis at the Hawaiian airport. I now understand why we didn’t have very many friends.
Goal 110 stated to accomplish all of these goals before the age of 37 and 3 months.
The last treasure to be found was a blown up picture of me after my mom woke me up from a nap. Billy made sure to let everyone know that this is still my daily wake up face.
And because this post is already way longer than you signed up for….we will talk about dessert time in a few hours.

Jenn
What were your favorite books growing up?
-Goosebumps, Boxcar Children, Sweet Valley High, oh man sooooo many. I as a total book nerd and at one point I was even signed up for a “book club” for kids where they would send a new book to your house every month! It was awesome and I wish I could remember all those books so I can track them down now!
Did you collect anything as a kid? If you have kids…..what kinds of things do they collect now?
-ummm i collect lots of kiddie things now! hehe I STILL collect barbies and get a new one at least once a year. I collect sheep things (stuffed animals, figurines, etc). Yup, I’m totally a grownup.
What was the last veggie you ate?
-yesterday I had a glorious salad!
~Jenn

Full House, Sister Sister, Babysitters’ Club, and Sweet Valley were my FAVE books as a kid…good times!
Lindsay @ Lindsay's List
Oh man! I can SO relate to this post…first for the dwebbery and second, because my stuff is still at my parent’s house too! I don’t have anywhere to put prom dresses, Baby Wannawalk’s and all the middle school letters I saved. I’m sure they’ll make me get rid of it all at some point. Sad.
Theresa - Fueled by Wings
This post was awesome!! :)
I dont remember alot of the goals I had when I was a teenager…but I vividly remember trying to imagine myself as I was older..its hilarious, I dont look anything like I had pictured! am I a weirdo or did anyone have the same issue? ;)
AHHHH we are so alike bookwise..I was in love with Sweet Valley High, R.L. Stine, Goosebumps, Babysitters club, Sweet Valley University!!
I collected POGS as a kid…remember those! crazy!
Last veggie I ate..hmmm….does hot peppers count?
Amy
Wow! Goosebumps- that brings me back! I used to get nightmares over those books- probably over no reason at all! And I love your bucket list- you were pretty creative. Hope you have a good Sunday~
PS- I ran my first marathon (rock n’ roll Savannah) last weekend and I can honestly say I am addicted. Can’t wait to plan the next race! :)
Janae
AHHHHH AMY!!! I am so so happy for you!! Congratulations!! What races are you deciding between?!?! I NEED DETAILS!
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen
Is that an iPod mini? That was my first one too, except I got it as a college graduation present! My husband just found it, replacecd the battery himself and now refuses to throw it out even though we both have other ipods and iphones.
Sweet Valley high was my absolute favorite! Loved those books growing up :)
Mamarunsbarefoot
Ok, I gotta say it’s obvious how young you are based on your first IPod! Wow I’m old!! HAHA!!!!!!!
Liz (Little Bitty Bakes)
If you still want to swim the English Channel I’ll do it with you! :) But maybe the Boston Marathon would be more realistic.
Janae
Hey girl!! Yes, let’s do Boston ha. Okay, I tried to comment on your blog but it didn’t show up:( Do you approve your comments first?
Liz (Little Bitty Bakes)
As soon as I can qualify I’m there! Hmm, no idea why your comments wouldn’t be showing up, I’ll have to look into that!
meghan
It looks like number 36 on your list is to counterfeit money, and that’s pretty awesome. I also love that you wanted to break up all the couples at your school. And this list is funny since you were in high school. I also found sheets of paper from high school where my friends and I had written our names literally at least 50 times each with the last name of our high school crushes. And I’m pretty sure that’s not normal either…
Heather@Just a Colorado Gal
I had a teacher in high school that had us write letters to ourself and one to our best friend, close relationship, etc. She kept them and mailed them to us 10 years after we graduated, so I got mine a few years ago. It was insane to read about all my goals for myself back when I was 18–I have changed so much!!! My BFF’s letter made me tear up a ton too–especially since we are still just as close today as we were then. I’m a sentimental fool, I suppose :)
Erika - The Teenage Taste
Oh my gosh, I love your goals list! I’m glad to see that it has *lots* of funny stuff – I hate it when people only have super serious goals. One of my funnier goals is to start dancing like crazy when I’m alone in an elevator with someone. ;-)
Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries
Haha I can totally relate to this experience! Several months ago my parents made me go through my stuff taking up space in their house too. I found all sorts of “treasures” that at the time I thought I needed to keep forever. I also loved Boxcar Children and Fullhouse books. My other favorites were Babysitter’s Club and Little House on the Prairie.
Lisa@thedailyrundown
Hey, have you ever seen wild hearts can’t be broken? Best movie ever! I just feel like you would love it too!
Sabrina
I still have Goosebumps, Valley High, and Babysitters Club.
A few goals that I can remember are: own a red Corvet, and dance Swan Lake in NYC. Ahhhhhhhhhh, to be young again.
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes
I just had carrots-in carrot cake oatmeal! Haha I had so many barbies too… :)
Emily@RunningPerspective
oh my gosh you were the cutest kid everrrrrrrrrr!
and um that movie is totally in my top 5 too!!!! its a classicccc
i used to collect beanie babies like it was my jobbbbbbbbbbbbb i have boxes and boxes full of them in my attic.
and goosebumps was the besttt!! that and Nancy drew! i was obsessedd!
dana a.
i don’t think i had any goals written down lol! i did want to go to college, which i did:)
my favorite books growing up were: cam and jan mystery series, boxcar series and nancy drew mysteries. i read a lot growing up! i still remember the feeling of buying a new nancy drew book at bookstar and when nancy and ned broke up:(
last veggie i ate was broccoli yesterday at my niece’s birthday party!

I never thought about the future much when I was a teenager – I was always too overwhelmed by the present to really make any goals! I did know that I was sick of being unfit and wanted to run though.
I adored Goosebumps too – my Mum was actually a bit worried because I wouldn’t read anything else…until I graduated to Point Horror novels, and then Stephen King. I also collected Beanie Babies and Puppy in my Pockets…how incongrous to my adoration of blood and guts in my literary tastes.
Last veggie I ate: sprouts! I am so glad they’re finally in season again (ONLY good thing about the winter.)
xxx
Gina P.
I LOVE the fact that #36 on your list is counterfeit money!!! LOL…that’s awesome!
Janae
Still trying to figure out how to accomplish that one;)
nicole @ simply Nicole
that list is so precious! I wish I made goals like that at that age. Love the kilt one. lmao!
Heather Forcey
I’m dreading the day when my mom finally makes me clean my last remaining items out of her house! It will take me forever because I get caught up reading my old diaries!
My favorite books growing up were Sweet Valley High and any book by Christopher Pike or Judy Blume.
Corey
I would love to see the whole list!!! That is hilarious! Makes me wonder what I would find if I dug through some old stuff! Thanks for sharing!
charlotte
loved this post!!! :)
Brittany
Nancy Drew, The Babysitter’s Club, Arthur…
Collected Beanie Babies, Austin Powers cards, Mini Glass Figures..
Goal was definitely Boston Marathon…
Diana
Hahahaha goal #26…”break up all the couples at THS”…that is my personal favorite
My BFF from high school and I made countless lists, knowing you did too makes me feel a little less weird! I’m pretty sure ours included the standard mix of “learn a new language and read Anna Karenina” and “find a signature scent”…hey that’s important.
Shannon
Wow, it’s been forever since I’ve heard of the Boxcar Children! I used to love those books! And Sweet Valley High, Babysitter’s Club, Babysitter’s Little Sister, and a couple others I can’t remember. I wasn’t allowed to read Goosebumps.
One of my goals was to get my Ph.D…. not so sure of that anymore!
I mainly collected beanie babies, though I did also have Polly Pockets, My Little Ponies, and Barbies (though I don’t think we had both My Little Ponies and Barbies after my sister and I played with them in the creek and ruined them). I also had American Girl Dolls.
And last veggie, cauliflower, yellow squash, and brussel sprouts
Sierra @ Posh Meets Pavement
When I was a teenager I totally thought I would get married at like 30. I also envisioned myself owning a clothing boutique with my two best friends like Romy and Michelle. I also wanted to change my name. I was so off-beat.
I didn’t know there was Full House books, but I watched every single episode and cried when it was over. I also have the whole cast’s autography because I was a dedicated and loyal fan.
Last Veggies….homemade red pepper and tomato soup.
sarah
Whoa. If anything that lists should make people wonder why we didn’t have more friends. It was awesome. I don’t have any idea where my copy is, want to send me one–I need to cross out “Own and slippery slide” which I think means slip-n-slide. The time is ticking on us getting the Mayan Calender enforced, which should probably get on that.
Makena
I have to say that before I even read what the note said, just seeing that computer font made me think of you and Janae. Love the list (can I get a copy?)… Miss you Sarah!!
Ali Mc
I love this…I did something similar a few years back. I ended up donating a lot of my stuff to a local Church so they could sell it :D
I love your sad nap face. I HATE being woken up too …hence why I missed my morning group run today :(
ashley
I LOVED boxcar children as well :) I used to want to live in an abandoned boxcar because of those books.
I collected Breyer’s horses and beanie babies… oh, beanie babies. such a waste of money.
My goals have pretty much always been just to be happy and not have to worry too much about money. I’m hoping that once I get out of college (and relinquish my status as broke college student), I can get a good job and fulfill both of my goals :)
Marian
this had me cracking up! I’m reminded daily that I’m weird so I can relate to being a total rando.
I too have (yet) to clean out all my stuff from my parents house. I like to keep those child hood pieces of me at my parent’s house and still pretend I’m 5 on christmas day!
Laura
My favorite was #27 ‘understand Jenn and Brandons relationship’. That made me laugh!!!
Please publish the whole list…it was hilarious!!!!!!
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats
I love finding old things like that! I found my diary a while back… haha I would write in it for like a week every couple of years. Clearly I wasn’t much of a journalist. Oh, and it was a Babysitter’s Club Diary. Fantastic.
Celia
I loved Sweet Valley High and Sweet Valley Twins and the Unicorn Club. I also loved the Baby Sitters Club. :) I used to go through books so quickly!
Laura
Hahaha I love the picture of you when you just woke up. Such a cutie pie! And that lasagna looks insanely good.
The last veggie I ate… does pesto count?! ;)
Vanessa @ Gourmet Runner
I had similar favorite books to you! And Sweet Valley High…I loved that series. I still collect coins from around the world, and some older ones. Nerd alert!
:)
Kate @ Chasing It
hahahahahahaha those goals literally made me laugh out loud!! that’s AWESOME. I loved all of those book series when I was little too! And the Babysitter’s Club as well :-D all I remember about my goals was that I wanted to be an olympic figure skater, just like Michelle Kwan and Tara Lipinski (i kinda wonder what they’re up to now…)
Jessica Washburn
I didn’t have goals as a kid, but as a young adult/teen I became very goal oriented. The only collection I had was Cabbage Patch Dolls, I also didn’t pick up reading until I was older, and the last vegetables I had was steamed broccoli, carrots and cauliflower. Love this post!! Word of advice though, save all the good toys and books. I’m not a sentimental (keep junk) kind of person, but I promise you when you have kids you’ll wish you’d kept stuff like that. Come check out how my first 10K went. :)

Polly pockets were my FAAAVOURITE!!! I just got rid of them all this past summer, and I’m still kind of regretting it :( Growing up is harrrrd!
I loved Nancy Drew, American Girl series, Goosebumps, and Little House on the Prairie!
I have two older brothers, and they always collected baseball cards, so I would go with them to the hobby store when they got their baseball cards, and I would get Disney and American Girl cards :) I was a total girl.
Last veggie I ate was broccoli. Yum yummm
Rach
Goosebumps, Babysitter’s Club and Box Car Children. I also had one Polly Pocket but mostly I played tractors with my brothers and then when I was bored with that, I made them play Barbies which they were never against.
Brooke @ sweats & sweets
Favorite books were the Ramona series! I even remember watching the movie in elementary school :-)
Janae
LOVED Ramona ha. I tried to comment on your blog and I think it went to SPAM…save me!
Brooke @ sweats & sweets
AH! Oh no! I’ll find it and fix it :-)
Kayla @ kpLovingit
Awww, it’s so fun going down memory lane!!! I loved Goosebumps too!
Amylee
I think we would have been friends growing up if we had lived by each other. Goosebumps… Barbies… I dated a guy that took me to prom in a kilt… We’re practically soul mates! :)
PS- I thought your Mom’s marshmallow infested frozen yogurt was yours! Loved it.
Kelly
Same exact books! Though I was also a huge fan of Animorphs and Baby Sitters Club.
Last veggie? uhhh.. Does salsa count? I’ll eat some salad with dinner.
Zaneta
I actually wrote a letter to myself and taped it to the bottom of my desk … it wasn’t necessarily full of goals but good memories and inquiries of if some future goals had come true… it was fun finding it again and reading it lol…
Adrian
That picture of you as a child is awesome. It’s probably the same look you give when Yogurtland is closed and you have a sudden craving for 1 part yogurt and 3 parts gummy bears…or when you can’t get a run in!
I also love the “run the Boston Marathon” on your goal list! I have NO doubt in my mind that you won’t get there. When you do, you’re totally going to rock it!
One of my goals is to meet you one day! :) Maybe, when you decide to run the Pittsburgh Marathon…you know, the one that had nearly 18,000 participants last spring! :D Though, I’m sure you’d leave me in the dust Mrs. Speed Demon!
Kristen @ notsodomesticated
I loved Goosebumps books, and I also loved Baby-Sitters’ Club. Ooh and Nancy Drew haha! Ahhh the good old days! ;)
Brittany @ GOtheXtraMile
I laughed out loud at “interrupt a faculty meeting while wearing kilts ” hahaha. Too funny. I’m pretty sure I had a list but I have no idea where it is! I still love a Cinderella Story, such a classic.
I collected beanie babies!!, Barbies, then eventually Bratz. I had the spa, the car, everything you can imagine. Spoiled.
I had a huge salad for lunch so spinach/tomato/carrots were my last veggies!
Chelsea
As a kid I always wanted to grow up and live on the ocean and have the goal of being famous, yeah right lol. I also thought that I would be married with about six kids by the age of twenty five. Well I am 29 and just getting married, so apparently I did not make that goal.
Last veggie I ate….cucumbers on a salad for lunch :)
Lauren
I don’t remember the books I grew up reading when I was REALLY young. I know I read a lot of goosebumps because of my older brothers. I think there was this “Madison Finn” series I went through in the early middle school years. Things get fuzzy before that.
I ate a tupperware salad with imitation crab and blue cheese + pounds of veggies :)
I collected the little mcdonalds toys hahaha. I still have some winnie the pooh, blues clues, and “special edition” barbies. My mom got me one every christmas/easter.
I LOVE the fact one of your goals was “not go to the morp”. We would have been friends in high school… Especially the sneaking out aspect ;)
running ricig
I love that picture!! You should totally frame it.
My mom made me clean out all of my stuff at their house like two weeks after i moved into my first apartment. Cruel.
My favorite books as a kid were Nancy Drew!
Keri @ Blue-Eyed Runner
Yessssss Sweet Valley High!
adrianna
i dont remember my goals at all…oops.
i loved sweet valley high and the baby sitters club. i read them all. i liked nancy drew, too, but she wasnt as captivating.
last veggie was a huge salad at lunch…i think the last bite had spinach and green onion.
we would start collections of things (nothing of meaning) and then would get bored of it and end up w/ a bunch of the same crap in a box years later.
Grecia
You had so many Barbies, all with wicked awesome outfits I must add.
I would love to see the rest of your list, I don’t think I had one, but if my friends and I had made one I’m sure it would be totally random and kinda weird.
Last veggie I had were brussel sprouts. I finally tried them this year and can’t get enough of them. I don’t know why everyone says they taste so terrible, I love them!
Michael Smith
LOL. My daughters read the same books, play with Polly Pockets and have a pretty decent Barbie collection as well.
Elle
I remember my goals being very open-ended, like get maried, have children, have a job I like, etc.
My favorite books were Boxcar Children, Sweet Valley High, and Babysitters Club
I collected stuffed animals, I guess I should go back to my parents and clean out some of those!
Lettuce on top of a chimichanga!
Terra
I wanted to run a marathon :) DONE! (Luckily I didn’t specify which one OR how fast)
Box Car Children, Babysitters Club, The Black Stallion books…
Spaghetti Squash
Stamps, Coins, nasty little things I brought in from outside:)
Heidi
Love this post!!!
I loved the Boxcar children books!
Katy W.
Keep that stuff for when you have kids! They and you will have a blast with it!
Rene Hall
I loved Sweet Valley High books a ton and was convinced I would have twin daughters named Jessica and Elizabeth and that they would drive a red convertable.
Thankfully my kids aren’t big collectors though my son went through a silly band phase for a while.
Rachel
Oh my gosh! Number 27! That is sooo funny!!! (one more ! for effect) I need to know… did you guys ever reach that goal? HAHAHAHA! sigh Thanks for the laugh. I needed it tonight. :)
kelly b
bahahahahahaha. that list killed me.
Ara
One of my biggest goals when I was in high school was to get married and have kids after I graduated. 13, almost 14 years later, that still hasn’t happened. My favorite books in elementary school were the Boxcar Children. LOVED it. The last vegetable I had was green beans. Yummy!
Christine @ BookishlyB
Love #32! Hahaha!
megan
I’m still planning on Goal #32. Oh man, the good old days of THS. That list is awesome, I would love to see the rest of it. Love you!!
Holly
Haha- I love that you had a goal to counterfeit money- too funny :D
I love this post!! :) Brings back some good memories. I also had a TON of Barbies & played with them FOREVER- until like 9th grade.
LOVED Full House- one of the best shows ever! & Goosbumps always scared the crap out of me when I was younger- lol!
Brittany *Sparkles*
My bff and I didn’t have a goals book but we had rules… I remember one was if even in a financial crisis call your BFF and if they can’t help call your daddy! haha
Books? I loved the Baby Sitters Club!!!
As a kid I loved the American Girl Dolls & books and the last veggie I ate was a BUNCH all over my thin crust pizza! my fav was the artichoke hearts lol
Makena Ale
Oh the memories… 27 is my favorite! My dad said he ran into at… Froyo… And i said, where else would you run into her? That’s her second home. Text from him read, “Just ran into your soulmate” and I replied, “Janae? Yes she is my soul mate… I’m just trying to figure out how to fight off Billy and her 1,000+ blog followers who also think she’s their soul mate, any ideas?”
Collections: key chains, pictures, McDonalds Happy Meal Toys (ok actually that one is my dads collection)
Veggies: Sorry my body is rebelling and can’t handle veggies.. Give me 7 months and I’ll get back to you on this one!
PS- I know it’s a little late but Congratulations on NY… Love You!
janetha
i still have boxes at my parents’ house. pretty sure there are tons of pogs (are you too young to know what those are?) i had lasagna yesterday, too! haha #26 is the best.
Jess @ Blonde Ponytail
I LOVE this POST! Sorting through childhood memorabilia takes so much time b/c you can just get rid of it right?! I had no idea what the Boston Marathon was! And, it was #31 for you!
I had to do this very thing when I moved from Nebraska 2.5 years ago!
Dorry
Seriously so cool to read back over your old goals! I never had a full list like that, but I wanted to be a doctor in 5th grade. Ha. Last veggie: shredded zucchini on my salad at lunch. And you will get to #31! I know it. :)
