Friday in NYC. I have never walked so much in my life.

Pretty sure I walked 26.2 miles yesterday, I really am an expert on how to prepare for a marathon…..hot dogs and ice cream eating are another one of my tips for the days leading up to a race.

You wouldn’t expect anything less than the best on my blog in terms of fueling would you?

We first started the day with pancakes at some random diner near the race expo.

(Picture pre-butter and syrup……my hands always get sticky no matter how hard I try to not get syrup on them so I had to take the picture before I smothered them in goodness).

Photo 5

The NYCM expo is runner-nerds HEAVEN. The biggest race I have ever done is 2,000 people that means that this expo was 23 times larger than any expo I have ever been to.  I kept texting Billy that I couldn’t even believe how happy I was to be surrounded by other crazies that enjoy paying mula to put themselves through blood, sweat and hitting the wall.

Photo 4

I especially loved meeting friends for the first time.  MAEGAN ABOVE and KERI, me, cousin and LIZ below (ps Liz is going to SUB 3 on Sunday!!!)  I am going to pay for them to all move to Utah so that we can run, eat and watch movies together daily.

Photo 3

I asked Siri, ‘What is the best pizza in all of NYC’ and she responded Lombardi’s.  Siri has yet to fail me.  I think I would have thrown my phone in the Hudson if she guided me to the wrong place for pizza.   Each meal while I am here is very special to me because there are approximately 1,000,000 more delicious choices in NYC than there is at home.

Photo 8

I don’t even know how to explain this pizza.  Sorry Billy, I don’t think I will ever be able to eat a Little Caesars $5 hot-n-ready ever again…….no pizza will stand a chance with my new pizza standards.

Photo 2

Other adventures included the Statue of Liberty, Soho shopping, Ground Zero, Queens (on accident) and more shopping (a 4-level F21…..holy cow that was overwhelming).

We ended our day at Times Square and I had to make BIlly a little jealous with……..

a NY hot dog for dinner.

Dear Billy, they really are as good as we thought they would be.  Every time we watch 30 Rock and they are eating one we both drool a little bit.

Any 30 Rock fans?

-I am hoping to meet Tina Fey while I am in town.

Would you rather live in a BIG CITY or a small town?

-I am liking this big city thing…..

What do you order when you go to a diner type place for bfast?

Any fun plans this weekend?

Fun!!!
WOW on that pizza, I would never be able to eat a hot & ready ever again after eating that piece of awesomeness.

aaaahh!!!! looks like so much fun! I LOVE race expos, I bet NY was….there aren’t words. Did you get to see/meet Lauren Fleshman or Ryan Hall or anyone?!? And I agree on the NY pizza – you have to go straight to Italy if you want pizza that’s on par w/ NY’s.

I love big cities but I don’t think I could live in the middle of one! I need trees and big spaces and trails to play on haha. I really like where I’m living now – our town and the surrounding towns are all quaint pennsylvania farmland, but philadelphia’s only 20 minutes away if I want to have some city fun!

Reply

I am drooling at my screen – I’m from New York and love big city living, especially the pizza and the fact that you can order any type of food you want at any given hour of the day. Make sure you stop by Max Brenner’s for some recovery chocolate!!!

welcome to nyc! glad you’re loving it :) i’m an nyc-er and i’ll also be running! and if you think your pizza standards are forever changed, your marathon standards will be too after sunday :) have a great race and enjoy our awesome city

ps – diner pancakes. for dinner.

I live just south of Boston and love the city. Love NYC also, much bigger than Boston. I usually get pancakes or waffles and love good homefries.

It was SO SO wonderful to meet you yesterday and I am taking you up on that trip to Utah. I already asked Dan and for some reason he said he would pay me to go…? just kidding :) But I did tell him I’m going to Utah to run marathons with you.

Rest up and have fun today! See you tomorrow!!

I am so jealous of your trip to NYC and that pizza!!

Good luck on Sunday!

My plans include 4 fitness class (over 2 days) and lost of relaxing…yay for a low key weekend!

Good luck this weekend !! Looks like you are having a lot of fun already, just as you should! Enjoy every second!!!!

(Small town for me but I love traveling!)

I loved visiting NYC this past summer. We walked like 10 miles one day I’m pretty sure. Isn’t it crazy how Times Square is so different from other places? (like Soho where you did your shopping).

Good luck tomorrow!!!

Reply

I would love to live in a big city! Haha I love NYC :)

GOOD LUCK this weekend. You will do great. Just have fun and enjoy every moment! I am glad Suri did not disappoint you yesterday… I was lost and starving yesterday and asked her a million times for “restaurants near me,” and it did not end as well as your story – ha. Your NY photos are making me really jealous… I will continue to work on my husband to convince him that we need a NY baby-moon before May 10th!

I am having some much needing girl time this weekend – pedicures and movie with my sister this AM and then hanging out with two of my best girlfriends this afternoon. Sounds like a great day to me.

Can’t stop thinking about the fact that you (and so many other blogging pals) are running right now! I am so excited that you are back out there…patience paid off and now you are doing it AGAIN! woop woop! Hope it IS AWESOME!

Reply

As a single girl I loved NYC!!! But having kids I would never live there with my big family.. Don’t forget to try the perogies!

Reply

I’m so excited for you! Enjoy the race and the city!!

Reply

I love big cities! I feel far more at home in them rather then small towns! I think it’s because I grew up right outside Harvard Square.

Those pancakes look amazing. Sad I didn’t see you at the expo, although I admit I was a little overwhelmed by all the people who kept pushing into each other (and me!)

Reply

Aw, it sounds like you are having so much fun! I’m so excited for you!

I’d rather live in a big city than a small town. I grew up in the suburbs–so convenience to stores and things is crucial! haha

I almost always order pancakes or waffles at diners.

This weekend = organizing a closet, working on a project I brought home from work, meeting up with a friend for coffee, gym time, church time, and making granola with my mom!

Reply

I LOVE race expos. The people, the shopping, the entire experience…gah it’s just all amazing! Those pancakes…WOW. You always find the best looking food. I always order pancakes, waffles, or french toast when I go out for breakfast. I’m actually making pancakes right now for breakfast. Yum! Good luck tomorrow and enjoy the experience!

Reply

Good luck tomorrow! That hot dog looks truly amazing, I’ve never had one like that and those NYC shows always make street food like so yummy!

Reply

I am much more of a “city girl”. Growing up in/near Phoenix and L.A. will do that to you I suppose. I do prefer more of a suburb outside of a big city though rather than living right smack in the middle of the city. Don’t think I could do a big NYC though. I’m sure it’s incredible to visit though! I have never been, so that’s definitely on my “bucket list”.
When we go to a diner (which is rare), I usually order an omelette or pancakes – depends if I’m craving sweet or savory. Your pancakes look delish!
This weekend my husband and I are helping out with a church youth event and then crashing tomorrow because as you know, high schoolers wear you out. ;)

Reply

RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!! I can’t wait to hear your results!!!!!!!! I’m pullin’ for you, girl.

LOVE 30 Rock.
I’m somewhere in the middle. We live 30 min outside the city, and that is perfect.
I always enjoy getting a grilled cheese sandwich from a diner. Boring I know. Weekend Plans: Friends are flying in to come visit us!

Reply

I felt the same way at the Chicago Expo. Ya’ll should head out here for next year’s race!

Make sure you eat a street pretzal too…mmm…my favoite! Ps the BOY (my foodies otherhalf) was drooling over your lombardi’s pizza. He loves it!

Reply

Have a great run tomorrow! So happy you are enjoying the big apple – I work in NYC a lot and live about 20 minutes away (in Jersey) and it never gets old.

I can’t wait to someday run this marathon too!!

Looking forward to the race recap. :)

Reply

I am such a city girl!! I LOVE it!! And that pizza looks SO yummy!! Street meat aka hot dogs are the greatest! And your pancakes have just inspired my Saturday morning breakfast! With you on the syrup- I’m such a mess when it comes to that sugary goodness!

Reply

AND HAVE AN AMAZING RUN TOMORROW!!!!!! Have I told you how jealous I am yet?!… Maybe a few times.

Reply

So glad you’re having fun in NYC! At a diner I always get eggs and toast. Boring, but I love it.
30 Rock is one of my favorite shows, and I love NYC, but I like living in a rural area for now. We’ll see if I feel that way in 5 years!
:)

Reply

Wait..is the race today (Sat.) or tomorrow?? Best of luck regardless of the day!!

Reply

Wow looks like a great time!!! I am jealous (both that you are in NYC and running the marathon) lol I love an omelet for brunch- My current fave- tomato, fresh basil and fresh mozzarella cheese! Best of luck tommorrow! One of my FAVE quotes “The miracle isn’t that I finished. The miracle is that I had the courage to start.” Go out and have fun !!!!!!

Reply

Rest up those legs today!

Fun plans: Living vicariously thorough you.

Reply

I am def a small town girl! I tried living in downtown Denver and I didn’t even like that– and Denver isn’t even a bustling metropolis! ;)

Good luck!!!!!!!!!

Reply

This past summer I was in San Fran and there was a 3-story Forever 21. It was overwhelming! I can’t believe there is a 4-story one, that’s crazy!

Reply

NY sounds amazing!! Good luck tomorrow :) relax and enjoy your run!! It sounds like an incredible course!!
I always go for the french toast with syrup and lots of powdered sugar! With a giant hot chocolate on the side (healthy, I know).
And if you don’t run into Tina this time, I am planning a NYC trip specifically dedicated to meeting her and becoming her best friend…you’re welcome to join!!

Reply

I am SO freakin’ jealous! New York would be a dream vacay, and I would just eat…at restaurants….all day. I’ve always wondered about the hot dogs!!

Reply

i have yet to watch 30 rock but i love the office!

i would love to live in a small town. i like the feel and coziness and if i want i could always venture out to a big town. (i live in a big town now)

whenever i am at a diner i always order an omelette! i love eggs and never makes omelettes at home so thats my to-go meal.

no fun plans this weekend, but who knows something may pop up.

good luck running! i read that mya and christy turlington are running too…maybe you will see them;)

Reply

I love living in a small city but love traveling to visit big ones. I went to a 4 level F21 in Montreal and spent like 2 hours in there, amazing!

Reply

I’m so glad you got such a good weekend weather wise in NYC! I love the city and always wanted to live there for a year or two before marriage, houses, “settled life” and it never happened. I’m pretty sure it will be one of those things I always regret. Luckily, I live close enough to go in whenever I want and get my fix :)
So psyched for you tomorrow. GOOD LUCK!!

Reply

My fun plans include tracking people while running the marathon! Watching the marathon and wishing I was at the marathon! Good luck!!! NYC pizza is the best!

Reply

wow- so jealous! That pizza looks amazing. I order French toast at diner restaurants. Yum.
St. George was the biggest expo I’ve been too and that seemed big to me. Good luck tomorrow!!
I think I am more of a big city type of person- and I love me some Kenneth on 30 Rock.

Reply

I went to Lombardi’s tooooooooo!! So so GOOD! Big city all the way! If you have time, best bagels are at Ess-a-bagel! It’s a crazy small place with a lot of crazy workers but it is SO worth it. Get an everything bagel with jalepeno cream cheese if you go!! Have fun!!! xoxox

Reply

What a fun day! I’m a city girl at heart. I LOVE Chicago!!! I’ve not yet been to NYC, but I bet I would enjoy it! Have fun!!!

Reply

That pizza LOOKS like the best pizza ever. Nice job Siri.

I actually hate NYC. We live a really quick train ride away and we go maybe once a year and I always dread it. I like small towns way better.

I can’t wait for the race tomorrow. I’m going to track you and yell from my living room. You’ll hear me, I promise.

Reply

I’m sure you are probably hearing of a million places you need to go in NYC, but you should definately hit up the “Shake Shack!” It has AMAZING shakes/sundaes/burgers/fries/would be the perfect place to eat after a marathon! It is right near all of the Broadway shows so it is kind of a neat area too and has afun atmosphere. :) Hope the race went well!

Reply

GOOD LUCK! Can’t wait to run it one day!

Reply

I grew up next to NYC, but Boston is my city of choice. Not for the marathon, just because it feels more relaxed then NYC.

I’m training myself to order eggs when I go to a diner for breakfast. I usually tend towards the pancakes or waffles, but honestly I feel like eggs are done better at a diner. Plus you have more room for toast and hash browns that way!

Reply

I have to say, I’m kinda jealous that you’re running the NYC Marathon. I SO want to run that. It’s definitely on my bucket list. Second, when I go to a diner type place for breakfast, I usually always order biscuits & gravy! Delicious!

Reply

I usually order pancakes at diners….oooh or spinach omlettes. That pizza looks amazing! No big plans for me. Yesterday was my daughters 8th birthday so she had a sleepover so this weekend I am going to try to recover from that and I think I am getting a cold! Yuck!

Good luck tomorrow. I know you are gonna do fantastic!

Reply

I loveeee big cities. NY is soo amazing! GOOD LUCK!!!

Reply

Diner breakfasts are definitely multi-grain pancakes. Not a fan of the omelets/eggy breakfasts at diners. I love the city life. So much to do and see and so diverse, yet like anything makes it more of a novelty when you don’t live there. Lovee the constant easy transportation..its great! Maybe Billy will end up in a city for Law School. This weekend has been low-key. Saw the new Eddie Murphy movie Heist.

Reply

Why am I not in New York right now? I don’t even care about the marathon, just give me the FOOD! The best I’ve ever eaten in my life was the week I spent in New York. I’m glad you are being a tourist.

I order an omelet. I make my own syrup and can’t stand the thick stuff.

Next you have to try a Gyro from one of those street vendors- SO. GOOD. Plus I hear they cut off a minute per mile or something during a race :).

Reply

SO AWESOME TO MEET YOU TODAY!! You are even sweeter and more adorable in person than i could have imagined! Can John and I move out and live with you and Billy and run, eat pizza & froyo all day everyday?!? Best of luck tomorrow girl, we’ll be cheering you on!!! :)

Reply

SO so SOOOo excited for you being there and doing the NYCM! Ahhh!! I’m only up to 3.5 miles but I’m wishing so badly that I could join you and Skinny Runner tomorrow! Y’all are both going to knock them dead! Good luck, girl! :)

Wishing for you a great race tomorrow :)

girl i tweeted you a pic of a sign you should keep yours eyes out for!!!

Yay!!! I can’t wait to hear how it goes!! NYC is awesome. I prefer a small town for every day but the big city is fun sometimes. I am always so overwhelmed when I go to NYC…DC is so much smaller and less scary (I can actually see the sky because the buildings are so short). Have a great run – I’ll be thinking about you!!!

Reply

YAY! that’s all I got

Reply

holy pancake mountain!!! aaahhhh, those alone make me wanna jump on a jet to NYC! and i’ve heard their pizza is just world’s better than anything else we have around the states, so u’ve further backed that up…hopefully one day i’ll be able to try a slice…or five, or ten. :)

Reply

seriously, you need to also get pizza at some like random ray’s or no name pizza place, to me thats the REAL stuff (all gross and greasy)..and get some BAGELS..swoon worthy..

and queens ain’t so bad (that’s where I grew up!!) okay..most of it is, but the parts that aren’t get a bad rep! Im sorry i didnt get to meet up with you but I’ll try to track you tomorrow and be thinking of you ALL DAY!

also, I’ve been hating on this city big time lately and thinking of moving but reading posts like yours today make me remember the things I do love about it..so I think you for that! oh, and crumbs isn’t nearly as good as buttercup or magnolia bakery, so if you can try those too! (Crumbs never tastes as fresh to me but they are much BIGGER then the others…)

Reply

oh and big city ALL THE WAY… i dont even drive a car!! i love nyc but like i said lately thinking about moving..i think boston is more for me..or maybe san fran..

Catching up. Hope you’re having a great race and so glad to see you’ve been having a fun time here!

Living in NYC can be a bit overwhelming at times and annoying (traffic, noise, having to carry groceries and laundry all the time, being on crutches in the city is the worst), but it’s also a pretty amazing city. You can never get bored here, unless you want to!

Can’t wait to read your race recap! Go girl!

Reply

Love your NY pictures! It’s so fun to visit big cities, but I would rather live in a more quiet place.

Reply

OH that pizza does look insanely tasty right about NOW! Hope it was a blast!!

Reply

Oh my gosh, I was not a fan of walking everywhere in NYC..even though I love the city, my feet were killing me at the end of every day lol
Hope you are having fun!

Those pancakes? Mmmm…. look like a little slice of heaven. How did Liz do today?

I would like to live in a small town that I could still walk around, kind of like Stars Hollow on Gilmore Girls.
