Day #2: Invading NYC one slice at a time.

You can read Day #1 of my trip HERE and the race recap HERE

Saturday Fun:  Let’s pretend that I wasn’t too busy eating .99 pizza and running around town to blog about Saturday on Saturday….plus, the internet wasn’t easy to get on where I was staying….I missed you guys!

IMG 0567

We tried 6 different pizza places while we were in town. They were all incredible and that thin crispy crust with greasy cheese will always remind me how good life really is.

On Saturday I did a quick shake out run in front of the camera until my cousin could get a picture of me instead of the three miler I was supposed to do.  Little did I know that the park portion of the race course was entirely uphill for miles upon miles and somehow I missed out on the downhill portion of those rolling hills.

IMG 0542

Central Park is ridiculously awesome….. PS I didn’t take my real camera (I didn’t need one more thing to attempt not to lose) and so all of the photos are from my iphone…not bad for a phone camera right?

IMG 0539

After I tried a NY bagel I regretted my obsession with eating pancakes for the first two mornings.  Not that I wouldn’t have gotten these chocolate chip pancakes but instead I would have ordered these pancakes with a side of three bagels.

IMG 0537

We found Dean and Deluca’s (I feel like I am one step closer to meeting Felicity now) and my cousin and I were mad at our stomach because we couldn’t fit anything else in because we were so full after breakfast.

IMG 0550

You know that rumor about self-tanner leaving lines and smudges on your skin…well, it is true…my neck is a living testament of that.

Full stomach’s didn’t stop us from spending 10 minutes drooling over everything.

IMG 0546

I can’t believe how truly incredible New Yorkers are…….I met 14 of my new bestest friends.   I vote we all (all of you reading this included) choose a place to live (ahem…NY) and buy a neighborhood and all be next door neighbors.  We could build a 16 Handles to be in the center of our neighborhood and meet before and after (for our fuel of course) we go on our daily group runs with our dogs (ahem…Billy).

IMG 0554

We took over 16 Handles birthday party room that was located in the back of the store and it was perfect for us to sit in a circle and get to know each other.

I had every flavor of yogurt, clearly not enough sprinkles and the best little cake bite thingees in the whole wide world.  Does anyone know what those multi-colored cake things are called and where I can get them within 50 miles of my home?  I might be able to convince Billy to drive 100 miles to get them but that might be pushing my luck.

IMG 0551

My cousin and I also met up with some friends from Utah that now live in NY for some pizza.  My hair washing policy does not change even when I change time zones.

IMG 0568

We ended the night sleeping at HEATHER’s house (the one in the middle) and had a blast watching movies and talking about everything.  Go wish Catie (on the right) a happy birthday….she turned 25 on SUNDAY and we were lucky enough to steal her away on her bday weekend;)

IMG 0634

I don’t know if I had enough delicious food this past weekend or not;)  It is going to be a little hard going back to broccoli, cereal and eggs.

—————————————————————

I got home yesterday at about 4 and spent 72 minutes telling Billy every little detail of the weekend.  We made dinner, watched tv and were in bed by 8.

Nov. 7-Nov.14 is officially catch up on sleep week, feel free to join me.

—————————————————————

Do you do a shake out run the day before a marathon/half-marathon?

-I thought I was going to before NYCM but I didn’t, I never have before my other races either.

What is your favorite cheap, fast-foodish, greasy food?

-Not gonna lie, the cheap street pizza was really good.

Thin crust or thick crust?

-Thin crust… allows for maximum topping eating.

My sister and I are conducting a very important survey.  We need your help to solve a conflict that we are having with each other.

Anchovies:  LOVE THEM, HATE THEM or NEVER TRIED THEM?

(You will find out why this question is so important tomorrow)

Mmm Dean & Deluca is the best!! We invaded that place last year with my friend and made dinner with foods only from there, it was heaven.

NO way to anchovies, yuck!

Thin crust & never tried anchovies.

THANKS JEN…you are the absolute best!!! It really felt like there was always a million things going on in NYC at ALL TIMES…no matter what time it was, I loved it!

Reply

You give me hope I will run again after injury hearing all about NYC!
Just had fro-yo with my daughter! She’s the only one of my 3 out of school today. Great excuse for a treat! I had pumpkin Pie & cake batter with waffle cone crumbles, almond slices and graham cracker crumbs. Yum! Just realized I didn’t put sprinkles on it. What is wrong with me?! They are a fav! Don’t forget to take plenty of time to rest and recover! Congrats again!

Reply

Don’t ever forget the sprinkles:) girl, you will be back and appreciate it even more!

Reply

AHHH!!! I feel like some sort of super special celebrity making a debut on your blog. I am now on the hunt to find out the name of those multi-colored cake bites and send them to you. Not a joke.. Miss you already!

You always have a place to stay when you come visit NY. Although, I do love the idea of buying a block around 16 handles and having wayy to much fun!

xoxo

Reply

BAHAHAHA remember how we were just hanging out on your couch watching movies just a few days ago…that was the best. I was telling Billy last night all about how I can’t wait for you to be here in April and pretty sure I need to make it back to NY really really really soon. LOVE YOU!

Reply

Hands down-PIZZA!
Never tried anchovies.

Reply

Mash a couple of anchovies up, mix with a little olive oil, a splash of vinegar and lemon juice and use it to dress your salad. Or vegetables. Sounds gross. It’s not ;)

Reply

Rache, I think we are a lot alike because that salad dressing sounds absolutely incredible…..I will be making that tonight!

Reply

Love the photos! :)
I do try to do a shake out run before longer races. It does help me loosen up.
Thin crust pizza for the win! Ok. Or sometimes french fries.
I’m a vegetarian so I don’t each anchovies, but I don’t think I would anyway.

Reply

Good call on the fries. Hope you are having an amazing day!

Reply

I’ve never tried anchovies, but I would actually like to.

Looks like you had an amazing time; I would love to visit New York! I’m glad you are home safely!

Reply

TRY THEM TRY THEM TRY THEM. You must go to NY….i don’t know how I got on the plane and got home except to see Billy ha!

Reply

Love anchovies.
Sounds like you had a great time in NYC!
I wanna try 16 Handles so bad, in Ohio we just have Menchies :)

Reply

I have never tried Menchies…is it self-serve froyo?

Reply

Yup. Its really good. It is just the same I feel as 16 Handles, but I do not think that they have as many toppings as 16 Handles. They would never have those cake things!! Which looked AMAZING!!

Reply

Those cake pieces are called RAINBOW COOKIES or NAPOLEON COOKIES they are Italian and you can make them @ home (obviously not the same as NY of course)..

Thin Crust..and not a greasy food lover. I can’t even stomach the healthy greasier/oil-ier natural peanut butter.

Never had ANCHOVIES, unless it counts that Caesar Salad dressing often uses them (un-noticeable).. and refuse to eat them. GROSS.

Reply

I will eat your greasy food for you;) Thanks for the heads up about those cookies……cookies that look like cake=brilliant. Hope you are having an amazing day!

Reply

LOVE THEM melted into oil because they are salty and delicious. Never tried them whole.

Reply

Okay, that sounds incredible! THANKS MICHELLE!

Reply

Mmmmm pizza! You’re so lucky for getting to try so many pizza places! Plus you got cool multicolored cake pieces in your fro yo. I have never seem those before and I feel like I have missed out my entire life. I bet you’re so exhausted. Rest up, you deserve it. And about anchovies…..yuck!

Reply

I usually do my shake out run 2 days prior and only 3-4km.
I was going to say my favorite cheap take out food was Subway but that doesn’t include greasy so take out Chinese?! I am sucker for it!
Thin crust!
Anchovies – never tried them!
PS NY looks awesome!

Reply

Yes, Chinese is the best….I think I might have to get some for dinner tonight, you made me crave it!

Reply

I don’t usually do shakeout runs but I was staying with my brother and his husky LOVES to run so I took him out for a short 2 miler. He is now my best friend.

Thin crust pizza all the way! Although deep dish does have its advantages! :)

And i have never tried anchovies, but I’m kinda sure I’d hate them.

Reply

I bet you are bff’s now:) You are right about deep dish and its advantages…I guess ALL pizza is just amazing!

Reply

Every picture I look like the antisocial girl standing apart from everyone. Hmmmm. Wonder what that’s about. Anywhoodle, I LOVE street cakes in Chinatown. They’re a dollar and I love them.

Reply

BAHAHAHA I saw that too and I thought it was just because I smelled funny ha. PS I told billy we are coming to visit you and you can take me to Chinatown for street cakes.

Reply

Sounds like the best weekend!!! I have never tried anchovies! I’m kind of scared not gna lie.. Your idea or building a neighborhood with Froyo in the middle is pure genius sign me up

Reply

Done and done….I just put you on the awesome neighborhood froyo list;)

Reply

YAY! Looks like you had so much fun! I can’t wait to hear more. pizza is definitely on of my favourites, along with bagels and cream cheese (but these aren’t really greasy). I e-mailed you about the best bagel place there but you probably didn’t get it!

I have never tried anchovies because I know I will hate them!

I will move to your neighbourhood. Just tell me when it’s ready :)

Reply

Hey Tricia from N.Y here. New to reading your blog and found you through skinnyRunner. Just wanted to let you know that 16 Handles is my absolute favorite Fro yo place EVER here. Those little cake bites your talking about are actually chopped up rainbow cookies. They are one of my favorites as well!! I bet you could find the recipe on line. My mom makes them every christmas! If you ever need some NY bagels let me know :o)

Reply

HEY TRICIA!!! Thanks for commenting and I wish we could have met at 16 Handles. That place is incredible….I don’t know how I will ever go back to anything else. They are cookies?!?! I thought it was cake…thanks for letting me now. I will be finding that recipe and if your moms is really good you should probably email it to me! Have a great day and next year we will have to meet at 16 Handles!

Reply

Seven layer cookies: http://smittenkitchen.com/2008/12/seven-layer-cookies/

Reply

OH GIRL…..thank you so much! I will be making those. You are the best. Have a great day!

Reply

Lady, I loved reading about your experience in NYC! I can not believe how well you did (well actually I can because you are amazing) coming off of an injury!!! I want to run it now in 2012 SO incredibly bad. What are your next plans?.. not that you have to have any:) I just know something may be lingering in the back of your head after such a speedy race!!!!

Reply

THANKS CHRISTIE, your comment made me so happy. I hope that you do 2012 so badly because it was the best race EVER! I want to do it next year for sure. I am running VEGAS half next month wahoo! You know me well, I am always thinking about what is next.

Reply

Thin crust pizza all the way! I agree, the more toppings the better :)
I find that with anchovies you get what you pay for. More expensive the better they taste.
I did a mini shake-out run before the Portland Marathon. But that was the first time.
Oh! And I agree with Heather! I feel like a celebrity being featured on your blog!!! You’re the best and I’m so glad we’re blog friends and “real life” friends now! haha

Reply

Seriously, I LOVED BEING AROUND YOU….I really felt like we already knew each other for years:) Red Rock is going to be incredible! Are you ever going to do Portland again?

Reply

I felt the same way!!!
I want to do Portland every other year, so 2013 is the next time!
PS – I looked up flights and flying into Utah is way cheaper than flying into Vegas :-) Road trippppp!!!!!

Reply

Oh man! You are making me HUNGRY!

Reply

I don’t usually do shakeout runs. I always mean to but just end up not.
My favorite cheap, greasy food is nachos (any Mexican food, really) and pizza. I don’t even care what kind of crust- except that if it’s thick crust, it has to actually be good bread!

I have never had anchovies but really want to try them!
Um, those little cake bite things look wonderful!

Reply

OHHHHH NACHOS….how did I forget about those. TRY ANCHOVIES!!

Reply

I want to meet Felicity SO bad. If you do I want to be there. Can we have a Felicity marathon one day? We could run to Felicity all day… what a dream come true. GOOD JOB on the marathon. I want to run that one one day. Love you girl!

Reply

I KNOW….we should go stalk her down. YES, remember when we used to watch Felicity in your basement…those were the days. LOVE YOU and when can we go on a run together?

Reply

Rainbow cookies are my downfall!!! and omg I totally forgot Felicity worked at D&D!!! Ha, if you want me to send you rainbow cookies, I can throw them in with the bagels! :)

Reply

I might really take you on that offer……I am already going through NY withdrawals!

Reply

Mmm if we ever meet, you are concocting my fro yo order–just look at that baby! Looks like a delicious weekend, glad you indulged to the max :)

Reply

IF….how about WHEN:) I will totally make you the best froyo you will ever eat!

Reply

I. LOVE. PIZZA. i like thick crust because honestly the crust is one of my favorite parts of pizza. i love bread, what can i say.
and anchovies. EWWWww. no thank you!

Reply

Now you convinced me of the greatness of thick crust…I CAN’T DECIDE!!!

Reply

Never tried them and I have NO desire to! They just seem slimy and gross. Blech!

Love the NY updates. I watched this video Alec Baldwin did about NY and the marathon and it made me 1) cry and 2) want to do it SO BAD!! You can see it on the RW Daily blog, on the Friday post. It was amazing.

Reply

Thank you for letting me now about the video, I can’t wait to watch it. You are the greatest!

Reply

It looks like you ate a lot of delicious food in NYC. I’m kinda jealous…

THIN CRUST PIZZA!!! Yummm. I could eat that every day :)

Never tried anchovies. They give me the heebies!

I’ll be doing a shake out race before my marathon. I signed up for a Blackbeard Challenge. 8k Saturday, marathon on Sunday!

Reply

WHAT?!?! You are my hero…..you are going to rock this weekend!

Reply

anchovies: never tried them

but I was watching that Martha Stewart Show the other day (because I am just that cool) and she was raving about anchovies.

Reply

I am cool too and love watching Martha too. You should try anchovies and let me know what you think;)

Reply

JANAE!!!!
here’s a link to a recipe for those multi colored cookies/cake thingies:

http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Seven-Layer-Cookies-233296

I make them at Christmas time… they are sooooooooo good!

Reply

LISA!!! YOU MADE MY DAY! Thank you so so much…..I can’t wait to make them and eat the whole batch. Hope you are having an amazing day!

Reply

I always call them rainbow cookies (at least I think that is what you are referring to). They are my FAV! You can get them at an italian bakery.

Reply

We need an Italian bakery….I am craving them bad. Hope you are having an amazing day!

Reply

I absolutely adored reading your recaps of NYC…how. freakin. exciting. you are SUCH a rockstar and an inspiration…to be able to come back from your injuries and finish the marathon in that time is amazing. i’ll be lucky to even finish mine when I attempt it…hehehe. I’m getting into NYC next year at all costs, so I hope you end up running it again!!

i dont do shake out runs..i’ve been doing pretty well with just completely resting the day before. although, i have def been tempted.

cheap, greasy food= pizza hands down. however, I’m more of a sucker for pan pizza then thin crust…i LOVE me some thick slices. if its buffalo chicken pizza then forget about it…its all over from there. i dont know how kevin is still attracted to me after watching me inhale food, but im grateful :D

anchovies= HATE them…ACK. although if you can believe it, i did used to eat alot of sardines with saltines when I was little. dont ask. but anchovies make me gag

:X

Reply

Thanks Theresa!!! You made me so happy! You WILL finish yours….you are such a hard worker and dedicated to the things you do that you will SUCEED! Can we go for cheap pizza someday? That would make my life!

Reply

Never do shake out runs!!
Bagels are seriously MY FAVOURITE FOOD of all time. Of course it has to be with cream cheese! I am currently eating one. I swear they are my guilty pleasure…that I have like 4-5 times a week. haha Ive been trying to cut down….for like 10 years now. haha

I agree with the thin crust/more room for excess toppings!

ANCHOVIES: HATEEEE THEM!!!! And I would say we have ALL tried them, because they are in 95% of the caesar salad dressings available! When I found this out, I actually stopped eating caesar salad unless I make my own homemade dressing! Probably just mind over matter but yuuuuckkkkk!!

Reply

AHHH I am jealous that you are eating a bagel right now, they are incredible! THe more toppings the best right!?!?

Reply

anchovies; tried them and didnt like them…but maybe bc they werent prepared right?…i forgot to say congrats before on the marathon!!! oh and the amazing cake things i introduced you to are called rainbow cookies…i know so weird bc its a cake not a cookie but thats what my friend told me and she and i are experts when it comes to sweets as you saw from the fro-yo experience

Reply

THANKS SO MUCH ASHLEY! You are the best. YOU REALLY ARE AN EXPERT…..we are a lot alike. Hope you are having an amazing day and I LOVED MEETING YOU! Please keep in touch! How about we do 10 froyo meet ups next year?!?!

Reply

Seems like you’ve hit all the amazing things of NY and yes the people are great there aren’t they? Did you ride the subways? Did you see anything interesting?? LOL

Reply

YES!!! We rode the subways and some CRAZY THINGS (for a Utah girl at least) happened…..
HOW ARE YOU?!?!

Reply

Anchovies: always freaked out by them when they’re whole and actually JUST last month tried one at a Spanish restaurant in San Fran. Yep, disgusting. Too fishy for me. Chopped up in little itty pieces in a caesar dressing is fine but whole pieces on pizza or other things…gross!

Reply

Thanks for answering our question…..you were very helpful in our survey;) PS you are making me want to go to San Fran BAD! Hope you are having a great day!

Reply

I love italian rainbow cookies! Pretty much all italian desserts are incredible!

Looks like you had so much fun!

Reply

I need to try more Italian desserts because those cookies were the best things EVER! Thanks for tracking us…you are the best!

Reply

Never tried them.
Thin all the way.
Once a year I crave hard shell taco bell tacos……cheap……check!

Chris has also had a 72 minute ok maybe 7.2 minutes, but total recap of your weekend events.

Reply

BAHAHAH You make me so happy! HOW ARE YOU?!?! Are you fully recovered after your killer half?

Reply

My body is recovered, but my heart is lost and lonely without it’s training plan and next race.
Thought the next race I’d run sould be early summer, but if I keep missing the goal this much, I might have to look something up.

Reply

Love anchovies!!! And thin crust pizza. And NYC. And bagels. And running. Your recent posts are making me very hungry and nostalgic for NY and very happy to be reading them :) Love the recaps!!!

Reply

We sound incredibly alike……
I hope you can get a bagel or something delicious today:)

Reply

Very alike in food preferences, attitude, and love of running — not so alike in the speed department :) I’m slow… but persistent!!

Reply

I’m so jealous of your NY trip! Pizza is the best–thin crust all the way.
I just tried anchovies a couple months ago. Did NOT like them!

Reply

ah those rainbow cookies are such an NY thing. i think they had famous ones that a bakery in jersey made bc our patients (families) would often bring them to us as a thank you. you can probs get them elsewhere but ive only seen them in nyc.

ps huge congrats on your marathon. im loving the recaps. and even though i dont miss nyc, your posts make me semi-nostalgic. kinda.

Reply

Thank you so much Elise, you are the best. I bet you miss NYC a bunch at times! Cali is amazing too….it is so hard to choose which one I like better!

Reply

Thin crust and probably mac and cheese.

crumbs?!?! :(

Reply

Possible, but it will be an inferior pruodct. Pie crusts should be worked as little as possible (not overworked). You want to avoid developing the gluten (like you want with a bread). A bread maker has a very small agitator and it will take a lot of mixing to make a pie crust.Lastly, pie crusts are best made by cutting up the butter into the flour (not stirring it into the flour). Food processor blades work well for that but a bread maker will not cut the butter into the dough. It will just mix it in.

Reply

Sorry I missed you. Rough weekend. Maybe next year’s marathon???

Reply

You doing okay? Let me know if there is anything I can do and YES, next year’s marathon!

Reply

OMggg New York food…….This makes me want to drive over there and get some pizza RIGHT NOW. Thin crust all the way!! although I can’t say I’ve ever tried anchovies…I don’t think I’d like them though.

And YES to the shakeout run the day before a race! 2 days out is a rest day, then the day before I always do a really really easy 20 minutes. It helps keep me fresh! or at least I’d like to think that. Maybe it’s just mental hahah.

Reply

GO GET PIZZA NOW!!!! You deserve it:) I agree with the mental health comment ha!

Reply

Congratulations on your race!! You’re a rockstar!! :)
I’ve never been to NY but after reading that post….
I am currently labeling an old peanut butter jar “NYC 2012 FUND”
See you at next years race! :)
Also. I HATE those little fish.

Reply

Thank you so much Rachel and get on that fund jar….Can’t wait to meet YOU!

Reply

Those would be neopolitin (SP?) cookies- they are the best. seriously can’t wait for christmas to be closer so that I can make a million of them!

Reply

So they are a Christmas thing or is that just your family tradition? What is your favorite recipe?

Reply

Thin crust by far but everytime I’m in Chicago I always need to go with the deep dish. Congrats on the marathon!

Reply

THANKS SO MUCH DANIELLA!

Reply

when i was in nyc we had pizza for nearly every meal, it was delish. i’m surprised that you were able to snap a photo inside dean & deluca, they wouldn’t let us when i went. there were people inside the shop watching for creepy tourists like myself that were attempting to document the store.

Reply

BAHAHAHA we are creepy tourists too…
My cousin somehow got that picture, I was very proud of her:)

Reply

Ewwwww anchovies!!

I know that guy –that is Tyler Ellis! He is a good, hilarious kid -how do you know him?? Crazy, small world!

Um, yes, I do like a good slice of delicious pizza—but if it is overly greasy I can’t stomach it. A little grease is okay once in awhile though! Haha.

NICE job on the run!!!

Reply

I always do a shake out run before a race just enough to get the blood flowing then stop!

Looks like NYC was wonderful! Love any kind of pizza but I’ve never had an anchovie in my life!

Reply

Ahh I’m so jealous that you got to go to Dean and Deluca!! Now that I’m finished watching Felicity, I’m so sad it’s over…
It looks like you had so many amazing eats over your weekend!! I love your colorful fro-yo! Looks delish.
My favorite cheap greasy food has to probably be french fries. Even though I’m not a big fries person, sometimes they just hit the spot.
I actually am in love with thick crust on pizza. I’m all about the yummy doughy bread!
Anchovies – hate them! Eww!

Reply

I technically hate anchovies but I believe they are in caesar salad dressing so I do eat them sometimes!!
PS I LOVE 16 HANDLES. Have only been there once but it was rad. NYC is amazing, I can’t believe you ate that much pizza in marathon weekend! I would have barfed running, my tummy is so sensitive I can only eat bland foods on race weekends!

Reply

Really!?!?! I guess I have a steel stomach because I went crazy on the pizza!

Reply

What an awesome day! That froyo is tempting me because I just decided to not eat sweets for two months. Such a bad idea.

Reply

TWO MONTHS……NOOOOOOO

Reply

Looks like SO SO SO much fun!
Cheap street food: Definitely taco bus!
Think or Thick: Depends on the pizza or my mood I guess. What can I say, I love all pizza.
I would say I hate them, but I do love caesar dressing… so besides in the dressing, HATE them and their fishy, salty selves. But honestly, I don’t think I’ve had them outside of dressing, but I can’t imagine eating a little tiny, stinky fish whole or knowingly.

Reply

I do a shakeout run the day before the day before. So sad I missed meeting you. I didn’t end up running but paced a friend from mile 14. i saw you right up ahead on the Queensboro Bridge but it was so crowded and then you disappeared!!

Reply

I KNOW…I was so sad we didn’t get to meet!! Next year right:)

Reply

My pulse quickened when I saw those rainbow cake bites. Oh my….delicious looking!

I love Taco Bell or really any burrito for cheap, greasy food. Greasy breakfast food is pretty awesome too.

I disagree…I think thick crust allows for more toppings. There is this one pizza place back in St. Louis (where I’m from originally) and it is deep dish dusted with cornmeal. But the edges are deep, not the center. So the edges hold in all kinds of goodness. Yummy!

Never tried anchovies….pretty sure I never will!

Reply

Mind if you take me to your pizza place sometime so that I can judge which is better:) Your description did make me drool a little!

Reply

I go every time I’m back in STL. Love San Diego but their pizza scene is lacking. Here’s some drool-worthy images: http://www.restaurantpi.com/cwe-menu/ You’re welcome. :)

Reply

ARE YOU KIDDING ME…I must go! There desserts even sound incredible!

Reply

See? You can’t tell me thin crust has more toppings than that! Shoot….I’m starving now!

Reply

Am I the only one that didn’t know Dean & Deluca’s is real?! You are channeling Felicity all the way, girlfriend!

Anchovies = never in a million years. That’s just wrong!

Reply

I need to find those cake bites too! Let me know if you find out what they are. I’ve never had anchovies unless you count them being in ceasar salad dressing. I’m split 50/50 on thin vs thick crust – it totally depends on my mood.

Reply

Anchovies- not alone
but YES to them in caesar salad dressing.

Reply

LOVED reading this! I am so glad you had such a great trip and man you shoved so much fun into so little time. Great job with that. :)

I’m pretty sure I haven’t ever tried anchovies (is that how to spell it?) but I am convinced that I would 100% hate them. I do agree with the thin crust for pizza and I am with you on catching up on sleep. :)

Reply

YOU ARE MY HERO! Congrats on your race girl!!!!!!!!!!! ahhhh I am so excited for you :)
ps- anchovies YUCK :(

Reply

THANKS SO MUCH ANNE!

Reply

I’m so glad you had a great time in NYC! I LOVE that city. <3 I do not love anchovies..the taste, the texture – blech.

Reply

Anchovies….never tried them…but really don’t want to. Just kinda gross looking!
So glad you enjoyed your time! Maybe you’ll have a running partner next year…hint hint.

Reply

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE…don’t kid around with me about stuff like that!

Reply

With it being a year away..maybe!! Unless I’m preggo!

Reply

I try to do a quick shake out before my halves but last time that meant a quick run maybe 1/2 a mile across campus to retrieve my car keys hahaha! I love cheap pizza esp from NYC.. but also a few weeks ago I had a brat on the the street.. OMGbest thing I have ever eaten… ever! I am a thin crust girl usually… but there is nothing like Lou Malnottis Chicago Deep Dish pizza!

Reply

Rainbow cookies!!!!
I have an Italian Mother in Law and she makes them and they are amazing. I am still trying to convince her to share the recipe

Reply

I love THICK crust pizza. I have never tried anchovies, but I know I wouldn’t like them.

So glad to hear how your NYC race went. Congratulations!

Reply

I am so jealous, it looks as if you had a ton of fun!! I love love love deep dish pizza with tons of cheese, my all time fav!! Chicago has the best deep dish pizza ever! Congrats on your accomplishment :)

Reply

Hi Janae, I am new to reading your blog and the blog world in general, but I am already hooked. Great job on the NY marathon. I had my entire family sitting around my computer watching live via Flotrack. My favorite greasy food is hamburgers and sweet potato fries. I have never tried anchovies. The texture kinda freaks me out.

Reply

Love the update and pics! I would have so taken the same pic outside Dean and Deluca *sigh* I miss Felicity and the gang lol. Looks like you had such a great time! I am so a thin crust kinda girl and that yogurt looks AMAZING! Never had anchovies but I would totally try them! We dont have a yogurt place like that where I live but there is one in Pensacola and Destin so it is worth the drive :) Cheap food…I would have to go with Taco Bell :) Love it.

Reply

NY sounds so amazing! I can’t wait to go there some day.

My favorite cheap food is definitely chicken soft tacos or bean and cheese burritos. They’re amazing and I could probably eat them every day. But I’m not going to lie, that slice of pizza looks so good. It’s probably my second go-to and I’ve been eating a ton of it lately since I got pregnant. Carbs and cheese together? Yes, please!

Reply

every stinkin’ time I go to a new froyo place I feel like I’ve hit the jackpot when I find new toppings. those cake bite things look faantastic.

Ok, so after I read your blog post I was looking through a Tastes of Home magazine and the recipe for those cookies was in there! Then I was on pinterest just now and found a Cafe Rio recipe
http://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/Rainbow-Layered-Cookies

And I don’t know that I’ve ever had anchovies.

And I think the best crust would be thin in the center, but thick at the end, so you have the nice thick crust without any sauce or toppings, but everything else would be thin and crispy. And think about this: with a thick outside crust you could really get maximal toppings because the thickness would provide a wall to hold everything in. Does that make sense? I don’t think it does, but okay.

I usually like to take the day before my race completely off. Looks like NY was so fun. I’m jealous of that fro-yo with cake bites. I like the thin crust pizza too.

Congrats on running NYC! I was so jealous! My brother and I watched it together even though he lives in Texas. We watched while at the same time gmail chatting with each other. I tracked you and SR and noticed that all your times were the same so I figured out pretty quick you guys were running it together. No need to come down off your marathon high, especially the NYC marathon!

Thin, crispy crust all the way, and no to the anchovies. Yuck!

I never do a shake our run before a half or full! I need very ounce of energy that I can get. I love thin crust pizza and hate anchovies!! My favorite cheap and greasy food is this little hole in the wall Mexican restaurant about 20 minutes from my house. I am sure they use lard to cook their food but I am not going to verify that!! Glad you had a great time in NYC!!

Ahhhh!!! Congratulations Janae! I can’t believe you ran so freakin fast after being injured for SO long! You are a huge inspiration to (still injured but getting better) me! I actually watch some of the marathon coverage on Sunday and I WILL sign up for some sort of race once I’m all fixed up. Probably not a marathon though:)

I am in on the plan to buy a neighborhood! So much fun to meet you and the other awesome girls on Saturday. If/when you kick trash at the Boston marathon you are welcome to stay with me since we are now clearly best friends. Congrats on an amazing race and on enjoying it without beating yourself up comparing to old race times. After watching you guys race Sunday I am DEFINITELY running NYC in 2012. Incredibly inspiring for Philly in 12 days (ahhhh!). Is it bad to plan my second marathon before I even run my first one?

I loved meeting you and you better not be kidding about Boston! You are going to rock Philly and I better hear all about it!

i went to 16 handles too! on monday. that place is money. sooo good.

So glad you had a great time.
Never tried anchovies but since I hate all things fish (except canned tuna) I’m pretty sure I’d hate them.
Don’t judge but every once in a while a hotdog from a convenience store is the best thing ever.

Haha, I’d never tried anchovies until about 3 weeks ago, and I actually loved them! I was shocked! That pizza looks amazing though…

omg that pizza looks so good! Can you pack some up and mail some to me ? :) I’m pretty sure pizza would ship really well!

Hope you’re having a blast up there, girl!

Wow, you get so many comments!!!! Anyhoo, I was going to say that every time I see Dean & Deluca all I can think of is Felicity as well! I’m so freakin’ excited to try an NY bagel when I’m there in two weeks. I have never had one! Well, I’m really jealous all you girls got to meet up but I’m trying my hardest to get into NYC next year — we’ll see. Actually, I’d LOVE to run one in YOUR lovely state sometime as well! Great job, thanks for the entertaining posts as always Janae!

Janae, congratulations on NYC. As I have been coming back from injury this year, too and got to run my first marathon after 2 years of injuries last month, your comeback has been inspiring. Following you and SR while in NY has made me want to figure out how I can run it next year too! Hope to see you there!

Looks like you had a great time!
100% agree with the pizza. Also, I adore anchovies. They may well be my favorite food. I have been known to eat only anchovies for lunch. Our local pub even serves up their bread with anchovy butter. People pity my boyfriend, but then he eats curry so I figure we’re even :)

Only 6 pizza places in 3 days?! Haha unreal.

I despise anchovies – I tried them once on a date and I’m not sure which was worse, the anchovies or the date.

That was a really fun day. Thanks for calling all crazies together.

It seems you had a blast! Congrats on the NYCM girlfriend! Never had anchovies…probably because they just LOOK gross

never tried anchovies…it kinda freaks me out that you can see their little faces. i’d be more inclined to eat them if their heads were already chopped off ;)

im not a huge pizza fan but if i were to choose it would be thin crust with extra veggies and nutritional yeast instead of cheese!

Uhhhh, pizza…obviously. Thin crust d00d need that crunch am I right or am I right??!

Just catching up on you from my weekend!
Whoah – cake bites as a froyo topping? Where do I find this? That is my dream. Something about having cake bites in frozen yogurt sounds so much better than just having a piece of cake with a side of ice cream.
Looks like you definitely explored the food side of NYC like every girl should. :-)

You didn’t get a red velvet cupcake from Dean & Delucca?!?! I don’t think we can be friends anymore. Huge mistake. HUGE.

Oh my gosh. I love Ty. Im so jealous you got to see him. I miss him. Very fun adventures in NY. Way to go on the marathon. You killed it. Oh and the real question is…are you team Noel or team Ben? in reference to felicity…

I just learned about those Italian cake cookies! I think they’re called Venetians or rainbow cookies. I’m glad to hear you took advantage of all the great pizza. I love NY style pizza, but pretty hard to find out here in San Diego. We have The Bronx Pizza near downtown and I also love Grimaldi’s, but that’s in Phoenix.

We just got a 16 handles!! (Fairfield, CT), and we have a Shake Shack on the same road…I guess I’m pretty lucky! I also loveeeee the tri-color Italian cookies (also called rainbow cookies). I usually fill my cup with even layers of froyo and those cookies! While looking for the “official” name, I found a recipe for them, and may try to make them for the holidays!! :)
