State Championship and Bribing Me with Food

Would it suprise you if I told you I took over 300 pictures yesterday of my runners?  They call me their paparazzi but little do they know I am making a rocking disk of running pictures for them.

IMG 0347

My kids did awesome! They pr’d and had a lot of fun (once they were done;).  This was the first year that the school that I work at has ever had a cross country team so I consider it a success that we had runners at state.  Added bonus= watching and talking about running all day long.

I even got to meet two amazing blogger friends! Heather and Amber are coaches for another team and they are ridiculously awesome runners themselves.  I really want to put together a ginormous blogger/reader run/race awesome thing…..how fun would that be. Close your eyes and imagine what I would provide at the aid stations (food/drink wise).  It would be worth the plane tickets, I promise.

IMG 0331

What better way to celebrate an awesome race than taking the team for fries dipped into Frosty’s.  Health teacher of the year award goes to me.

Photo 6

My BIL texted me yesterday asking if Billy could come over and watch the World Series with him and that he was making baked potatoes just for me……he knows how to bribe me to watch baseballs for four hours straight.

It was worth it.

IMG 0365

Baked potatoes with homemade chili and cheese.  Please appreciate my very artistic food photo (I am guessing that tilting the camera makes it artistic).

2nd part of the bribery was that dessert must be provided.  Marshmallows and chocolate/carmel covered macademia nuts did the trick.  Straggle hair is now in.

IMG 0367

As I was eating the above mentioned items I was trying to think of the last day that I hadn’t had some sort of dessert and I couldn’t think of a day.   Then I thought for a second to challenge myself to not eat dessert for a few days or something and then I remembered that I would probably turn into the worlds biggest pessimist with the lack of sugar in my life every 6 hours. Dessert every day it is.

—————————————————————

Honestly, do YOU have some sort of dessert/treat everyday?  Every other day?

What do you put on your baked potato?

-Usually I am lazy and just put on ketchup but the chili concept was excellent!

What is your workout?

-Going out for a long run and once again I AM SCARED….I need to get over this.

What do you think I would provide at the aid stations of our blogger/reader run?

Wow that is an awesome picture of the XC race! It must be awesome to be a running coach since you know a lot about running. My XC coach knows nothing about it so we have one of the girl’s Dads on our team tell us our workouts. :-P

Reply

I actually consider fruit (nectarines) to be a treat so yes, I have a treat everyday.
Baked Potatoes I am boring and just use butter/salt.
Workout today is 5 miles, weights and sauna.
The aid stations would be full of everything from skittles and swedish fish to fro yo and pb sandwiches. Maybe some kind of make your own smore’s station thrown in.
Now I am hungry. Great picture!

Haha your runners probably consider you like their older sister. Do they know about your blog at all? Dessert every day is a must I don’t feel satisfied unless I have it. But I usually wait until after dinner. If I have it before lunch it sets my day off wrong..and basically continue eating it all day. Usually its a milkshake.

CONGRATS ON STATES!!!!!!!!! Seriously, sending runners to states the very first year your school has an XC team – that’s unheard of. You must be a pretty epic coach! And um can you PLEASE organize a blogger race and can there be froyo at the finish line, cuz I would totally fly out for that aha.

Dessert every day. Yes yes yes. I definitely have some kind of treat at some point, even if it’s just a piece of chocolate…usually a muffin or some ice cream or something. I’d be cranky and hungry otherwise! :-P

Man if my school’s cross country team had a running coach like you, I so would have tried out for the team…bear in mind I HATED running back in the day! You’ve got me craving a jacket potato now- I lovee them topped with baked beans & cottage cheese (or grated cheddar)- this combo brings back such memories of boarding school in the UK- only thing remotely delicious in the canteen! My workout today was a 7 km pyramid run…love them! Feels like death during but the post-run high is totally worth it!

Reply

I MUST have dessert involving chocolate every day…which is going to be really hard when November comes around because I decided to give up chocolate with my Dad (we’re both chocolate addicts). Any suggestions for Non-chocolate desserts?

Reply

we used to do the frosty/french dip before volleyball games in jr. high. NOt sure how i played with a stomach full of dairy and grease but I did. haha.
Youre coolest coach ever! so proud of your team!

Reply

Wow! Your team kicked butt! Congrats! I bet you are the coolest coach ever. Haha. :) I like stuffing baked sweet potatoes with black beans, cheese, and salsa. It’s so good!

Reply

I’m thinking your super awesome aid stations would have swedish fish, fro yo, s’mores, and all other sorts of deliciousness. It would be great motivation: the faster you run, the sooner you get to the next tasty treat!

Reply

I love love love dipping fries in milkshakes…YUM!
Great job on all your hard work coaching… :-)
xoxo from Trinidad

Congratulations to your team! I bet you’re an awesome coach!!

That baked potato looks incredible. That would totally get me to watch baseball too.

Reply

I had a vanilla frostie at work last night, it was heavenly!

WISH I’d thought of the fries combo last night though, that is mighty tasty.

Reply

I love me some dessert! I was dying last night cause I wanted something and couldn’t find anything in the house….instead of dealing, I went out and found some chocolate chip cookies!

If you had aid stations, I’m betting on swedish fish and bite sized gummy bears!

Reply

I think your aid stations would have chocolate milk, fro-yo, icing, and sour patch kids, lol! Congrats again on your runners making it to state! And that baked potato looks “awesomesauce” :)

Reply

I usually try to keep my Hudsonville Ice Cream intake to at least 2 scoops minimum a day. :) Yesterday I made it one scoop… with 5 oreos, ate 3 oreos and mashed the rest of it all together (while watching the biggest loser on netflix, I might add)

Reply

They are extremely lucky to have you as a coach!!!!!! Maybe I will pretend to be in school again and have you coach me:) Have a good day lady!!

Reply

Theoretically I try to avoid dessert most days and then succumb when there’s something really good going. In reality, I have dessert about 3 times a week ;) Now, having said that when I have a baked potato it’s usually a sweet potato and I top it with cinnamon, butter and maple syrup! :))))

Reply

I have a treat 3-4 times a week usually.
I don’t liked baked potatoes!
I think I will do an hour of cross training tonight after work.
You would provide candy for sure :) For you know, running fuel ;)

Reply

Umm this might be totally gross but when I was younger my brother and I used to stick french fries in our straws to drink our soda. Your frosty fries reminded me of that and I just felt the need to share :-p

Reply

Is there a reader run????

Reply

I love dipping my French fries In ice cream! And I’m the same with you dessert every night is a must..lately I’ve been on a cereal kick with some frozen chocolate chips added in..yum

Reply

I haven’t had a baked potato in forever!! Need to get on that NOW. I love salsa on mine :)

Reply

Congrats on State! That is an amazing accomplishment! Makes me miss my CC days : ) What are you doing with all of your pics?

Fro Yo for sure at the blogger run! Costumes encouraged!

Reply

I used to have a mug of ice cream almost every single evening, but about a month ago, I decided to tone it down a little. I realized I was starting to do it out of habit rather than doing it because I really wanted it. I usually always have SOMETHING sweet after dinner though – whether it’s a small piece of chocolate or a big cookie. It just depends on the day. :) I love my sweets though – I certainly can’t go too long without them! If I did, I’d go nutzo!
I like a little sour cream or plain Greek yogurt, salt and pepper, a little cheese, and bacon bits! YUM.
My workout today is a full body strength workout with 20-30 mins of cardio. And you’ll do GREAT on your run! Just listen to your body. ;)

Reply

Yes, I pretty much have to have something sweet every day or I would go crazy as would my husband (I would not be very fun to be around)! I like my baked potatoes with butter, sour cream, chives and cheese yum! Today my workout was a 2.5 mile run plus an hour or Power Pump! I think your aid stations would include swedish fish, sour patch kids, skittles, fro yo and milky ways! Oh and maybe some peaches to make it “healthy” =]

Have a great day!

Reply

I love the idea of a GIANT blogger get together/race. Lots of candy at the aid stations, please!
I eat some sort of dessert everyday. Some days it’s a big one, sometimes it’s just candy, but my life wouldn’t be complete without sweets!
On baked potatoes I almost always put broccoli and greek yogurt. Delicious!

Reply

yes. i have to have sweets every day. its like in my dna. no changing it. promise :) i know you are out rocking that run right now! good luck friend…last super LR before NYC…you got this!

Reply

How funny. I thought the frys dipped into frostys was just a weird quirk my mom always did haha.

Reply

I thought I was the only one who dipped my fries in my frosty!
In terms of how often I eat dessert/treats, it really depends. Over the weekend I made cookies and we went a little nuts. But yesterday, I didn’t have anything. No rhyme or reason to it for me I guess.
I like baked potatoes with a little butter. Pretty plain.
I am a little sore from my tempo run last night, so I am going to try to get in a yoga workout later.
Your aid stations would be awesome! Maybe each would have its own theme: The Swedish Fish station, S’mores station, fro-yo station…
;) Good luck with your long run, chica. xo

Reply

Congrats on your team! That is just the best. I’m in for the race…tell me when/where. You won’t even need to bribe me!

Reply

Honestly? My favorite thing to put on bakes potatoes is from YOU – macaroni and cheese and broccoli! Love that! I also like the traditional butter and sour cream and sometimes just ketchup and salt because it tastes like a big french fry.

Great pictures! If I was on a CC team, I would love to have you as my coach! ;)

Reply

I don’t know if you know this, but If I don’t get a little sweet every day, I will die. It’s a condition.
I prefer baked sweet potatoes and I leave them naked. (pervy spuds)
Today is long run day. With a 20mph headwind. Should be swell.
I just had apple gummy bears for the first time ever. Those should be at every station.

You should be so proud of your girls. I am sure you are. They should also be so proud of themselves.

Reply

BIG congrats to your kids at State!! :) awesome, awesome!!

I love brocolli, salt and xtra cheese on my baked potatoes!

let’s see how well I know you…aid stations – swedish fish and chocolate milk! :)

Rest day for me today…mile repeats yesterday on track so my legs are angry at me! 5k for me next weekend!! :)

Good luck on your LR today my friend!!

Reply

Yay!!! Congrats on such a success. I am SO down for a blogger / reader race. Let me know if there’s anything I can do :)

I am exhibiting all day at a convention so I’m going to be on my feet most of the day, I might not have any energy left to workout we will see.

I usually don’t have a treat every day. I would rather have one BIG treat a week than a litte every day :)

Reply

I can see you having froyo stations at the end of a big race. Insert head under nozzle and enjoy. Good for recovery you know?

Reply

frosty + french fries = LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! i’m sure you must be a wonderful coach, those kids are lucky to have you :)

i def have some form of dessert everyday..whether its something small like a piece of candy, a bowl of ice cream, a cookie…a necessity!

baked potatoes, i like putting sour cream and chives alot. baked sweet potatoes = butter and cinnamon all the way ;)

today i had a 5 mile run of hills, on the treadmill while watching the little mermaid..i’m very adult, obviously.

your aid stations i’d imagine would include mounds of swedish fish, starbust and i’d hope pounds of that smores bake you made weeks ago because i could eat that for dayssss!!

Reply

Dessert everyday? Chocolate! I can’t go a day without it :) My workout would definitely be a long run.

Reply

OMG Janae…. you could not just have one aid station… you could probably aide a whole marathon with 26 stops with all your creativity! A stop for swedish fish, a stop for fro-yo, a stop for make-your-own ginormous salad, and the LIST GOES ON. I bet your running students ADORE you!!!!!!!

Reply

Sounds like an awesome day!!!!!!!!

Reply

Straggle hair is now in?!?!? AWESOME!!
love you! great job!

Reply

I’m a ‘dessert at LEAST once a day’ type girl…seriously, I get cranky if I don’t have it :)

Reply

I alwaaays have some sort of sweet, I’d go crazy if I didn’t!
I really like just salt and butter on my baked potato, I know, I’m boring :) but yours looks AMAZING! Tell your brother props!
I’m not sure what my workout is yet, today is my cross-training day on my marathon training plan and I am feeling l-a-z-y and unmotivated.. HELP! :/

Reply

I love baked potatoes! Yours looks delicious. Chili was definitely a great idea! I usually use Greek yogurt, salt and pepper :)

You would definitely have candy bars at every station – skittles, starburst, and swedish fish for sure.

Reply

I do have a treat everyday. It’s awesome.
I had a short easy 30min run the morn.
I think that every aide stations would be different. 1st one, sundae bar, 2nd one, fro yo, 3rd, pick a pie, 4th, cereal bar, 5th………how longs the race? heehee

Reply

fries dipped in frosties are the best!

Reply

CONGRATULATIONS to your cross country team! They and you are simply amazing!

UMM yes I have a treat everyday! I would go crazy if I didn’t!!

Reply

If you organize a run I WILL BE THERE!

Just start running, by mile 3 you won’t have any anxiety anymore, by mile 6 you will rocking the endorphin high, and by mile 10 you will have convinced yourself you are pretty much a.w.e.s.o.m.e. (at least it works this way for me) And then follow it up with a post run intrepretive dance, cause now you are a great dancer too!!!

Reply

you are amazing Janae! Your girls are so incredibly blessed to have you!!!! Man, lucky lucky!

World Series? Baseball is over until April (from a NY Yankee fan)

– I have at least 1 treat every day. Life is too short!
– I’ll put everything or nothing on a baked potato. I can eat it plain or makeit fun with sour cream, cheese, chives, jalapenos, etc.
-Did elliptical 40 min this morning; will do weights at lunch
-Swedish fish of course! :)

Reply

I probably have dessert 5 days a week, and the days I don’t have dessert it’s usually just because I ate WAY too much dinner.
I love butter, sour cream, chives and salsa on my baked potatoes but sometimes the BF gets fancy and makes them with chili, cheese and onions for us.
Yesterday’s workout was 3 miles and today is a rest day :) And I’m willing to bet your aid stations would have swedish fish and skittles with some ice cream at the end for proper recovery.

Reply

some sort of chocolate EVERY DAY! there is no way around it but I try to go easy on it so I’ll throw a few chocolate chips in my trail mix or other snack for the day.

recently someone asked me chocolate or cheese (apparently this is a hotly debated question)? i answered with “goodbye cheese, I will miss you”… how awful would that be?! but in reality, cheese would have to go!

what would you pick?

Reply

Wow – you are a very devoted wife – I would have had a night at home with a Sex and the City marathon!

Honestly, do YOU have some sort of dessert/treat everyday? Every other day?
I usually do but I just gave up sweets entirely for 24 days! It resulted in my first sub -4 hr marathon – not sure how related they were but I’ll take it! Now I’m back to every day though.
What do you put on your baked potato?
Broccoli, every other veggie under the sun, tons of cheese, and enchilada or hot sauce (try it!)

What is your workout?
I was up at 4:30 to tackle 7 hilly miles! I’m trying for yoga tonight if I have time.
What do you think I would provide at the aid stations of our blogger/reader run?
Chocolate milk and swedish fish….mmm….

Reply

Yay congrats to your team!!! You are prob the best coach ever!!
I usually do have something but sometimes I don’t have any type of dessert. It all depends on the day and how full I am and how late I eat dinner! A lot of times I don’t get home till late and have dinner around 8 pm.
I just put butter on my baked potato but I have never tried ketchup. It honestly sounds good!
I want to runnnn today! I’m not setting a certain amount of miles I’m just going to see how I’m feeling. No pressure :)
There would be chocolate milk, candy, froyo, cereal?

Reply

Whoa, some people do NOT have dessert everyday? Really, that is madness! Of course I have dessert everyday, practically after every meal… I like ending on a sweet note, multiple times ;) Congrats on your team, that is so awesome!

Reply

Girl I am thinking about you and I hope your long run went/or is going great!! I wish I could have ran with you. So awesome that you got to watch some of the best runners in the State yesterday. I bet that was fun. And um yeah I eat desert after like every “real meal” or I just eat dessert. I am trying to work on this but it is hard!

Love you! Enjoy your long weekend. :)

Reply

i still to this day have never had a vanilla frosty. …and honestly, I’m not sure i ever will. i just love chocolate too much. ;)

Reply

I prob have something sweet every day —sometimes that is just a fruit though. Totally depends on my cravings and mood! I always have a dessert on Sundays though—that is a MUST!

Reply

I recently came across your blog, and it has become one of my favorites! I eat dessert EVERY day, at leat once : ) Congrats to you and your team for making it to State!

Reply

I’d rather play a sport like volleyball or softball when working out but those seem to be team sports so I stick with running. If only I could get an impromtu volleyball game going that would be awesome.

And by the way, go ahead and sign me up for a frosty everyday. That’s healthy right?

Reply

Congrats for having runners do so well at state! I always have some sort of treat at least once a day. :) I share your love for baked potatoes…I seriously crave them. Lots of times I’ll just put ranch dressing on it. Sometimes ketchup or sour cream. My fav is loaded ones with chili, sour cream, cheese, chives and bacon-just had one yesterday! 10k run this morning for me…I hope your long run was awesome!

Reply

GREAT job /w the team and frosty’s and fries are fine for after a race! and much needed….I love baked potatoes I’ll put anything on them that is readily available :) but I love the classic “loaded baker” – sourcream (or cottage cheese), chives, bacon bits and cheddar cheese YUM!

I think a blogger/reader run is a great idea….aid stations could have recipes from everyone’s blog – kinda like a pot-luck race!!!!!

Reply

Not eating dessert for five nights was one of my goals for the month…which I haven’t done at all :-) I made it a goal because I know I consume WAY more sugar than I’m supposed to. But can you measure happiness?!

Reply

*sigh* sadly dessert is maybe once a week for me.

Reply

-I don’t usually have dessert or a treat, but when I do… You better believe its an epic one! Most of the time I eat a protein bar or shake as dessert, but my mind is too smart for me and it knows that’s not a real treat! ha

– If I’m lazy I put salsa (the kind from Winco is the biz-nass!) on my baked potato but if I’m feeling creative I put veggies and cheese or turkey chili.

– no workout today : ( But good luck on the LSD! I know you can do it, you are Janae Jacobs for crying out loud! ; )

-I think Chocolate milk (of course), gummies, milky ways, frosting stuffed cookies, and fro yo at the end. And for those needing a little fiber maybe a roasted brocolli salad. OR have Cafe Rio cater the finish line! I wouldn’t hate that!

Reply

Health Teacher of the Year! You were simply showing them a lesson in moderation, yes?!

Aid Stations: Swedish Fish and Starburst.

At the finish: Chocolate milk with Glutamine and Yogurtland. ;)

Reply

Yay to your runners! I want to start XC at my school, too, but no other schools in the area do it. :(

I used to eat chocolate EVERY DAY because I am addicted, but I just started the chocolate milk diet. I have one glass after my workout to indulge (and lose weight, right?!)

I’m doing Pump for the 2nd time ever…I’m nervous! I am still on the baby weights.

Reply

CONGRATS to your runners!! I had no idea that this was your school’s first year with a CC team..and to get runners to states?!!? That is impressive- you must be an awesome coach! Actually, I know for a FACT you are :)
& I agree, dessert is a MUST..every night. YUM

Reply

Awesome on the State Championships! Even making the state championships is an incredible accomplishment, at my high school our teams made it occasionally, but it my school almost never makes it there. Especially for the first year that your school has a cross country team!

That is great that you took so many pictures, last week I just finished doing a scrapbook of all my running memories the past 18 years, it was fun to see pictures from a long time ago from races. Your runners will love having that CD of their pics later on!

And Wendy’s frostys are awesome, haha

Reply

I went to school with Amber! She is an awesome runner for sure!

Congrats to your runners! :)

Reply

So did you go to timpanogos? That is where I went!!!

Reply

Yes, I would say I eat some sort of dessert every day. I can sometimes talk myself out of it, but not usually!
I am pretty boring and just use salt and butter on baked potatoes. Sometimes sour cream and/or salsa.
Today my workout was a 6.2 mile run during a before the sun came up hour.
Hopefully your aid stations would have swedish fish, starburst, skittles and pb & j sandwiches. I would love if you included some peppermint lifesavers! I would so be there.

Reply

Hey, great job, coach! Looks like it was a gorgeous day for the race!

No baked potatoes or sugar right now :( . but amazingly, I’m surviving. Stevia’s doing the trick for me, and I’m LOVIN’ fruit right now. Homemade yogurt w/some fruit, a few drops of stevia….. YUUMMMMM.

4 miles today.

Reply

Janae! I was at state, too!! Wish I saw you! & Amber is one of my best friends! She ran xc and track with me before she graduated! :)

Reply

Ahhhh how did you do?!?!?

Reply

My treat is Peanut Butter Puffin’s. Every. Night. Is that bad? Probably, but it tastes amazing and it heals a bad day!

Reply

yay your runners in training are so awesome!

i bet you would provide swedish fish, root beer, mcdonalds lemonade, glutamine,
and ice cream

Reply

I have some form of dessert each day. Sometimes it is just a handful of chocolate chips or a piece of dark chocolate after dinner but it is enough to fulfill my sweet tooth! I have not had a baked potato in forever… wow… ok so I would put cheese and pepper for sure and then dip in BBQ sauce. Everything is better with BBQ sauce :)

Reply

I go crazy if I don’t have dessert/chocolate every day…my roommates think I’m nuts, but hey, they know they always have a fro-yo buddy!!! My famous last words will be “hey guys, let’s go get fro-yo.”

Reply

I’m trying to layb off dessert so I have a few Hershey kisses a day and call it good. I honestly think you need to put together a Hungry Runner Girl blog stalking marathon. I would most definitely fly in for it. Best aid stations ever.
