Bubbles, Sheet Cake and Fashion

I really think that I should change this blog to a fashion blog…between me wearing the same outfit every single day this last week and my nieces choice in shoes today, we could go far.

IMG 0042

Pre-dinner festivities were bubbles.  We started out with the little wands but then my brother had to come up with some way to make the most ginormous bubbles using a hanger.  Pretty sure I took at least 132 pictures of bubbles.  You’re welcome for only posting one.

IMG 0092

If you have heard that Utahns eat a lot of jello…it is 100% accurate.  I am pretty sure that I have had some form of jello/fruit combination every Sunday of my life growing up.   Tonights special:  Raspberry jello with bananas and raspberries.

It was my nephews bday and he chose steak for dinner.   We were cheap and just got him steak and the rest of us had chicken or hot dogs.  As long as I have a buttery biscuit, I don’t care what else is on the plate.

IMG 0097

Curly head is sick of my paparazzi tendencies when I am around her and now only makes this face when I tell her to smile.

IMG 0125

I know I am dramatic about my desserts but I really did find my new favorite treat.  It is from KRISTY’S AMAZING BLOG and we tried her Snickerdoodle Sheet Cake….do it now.  The glaze on top was the best part and I am pretty sure you could frost anything with that stuff and it would taste heavenly.

Congrats to all you racers/marathoners this last weekend!! It was so fun to track you and cheer out loud by myself in front of the computer screen when your times were updated!!!

I love the quote from Knocked Up- “I wish I loved anything as much as kids loved bubbles.”

Thanks for introducing me to yet another baking blog. Like I need it… oh dear…

This week I am looking forward to going to the markets on Saturday with my mum and my sister. We do it every week and I still get excited :)
I am planning on doing some hill walking/running today. Still trying to get back into the groove of running.

Reply

She is such a cutie! That sheet cake does look amazing by the way. I can’t wait to read everyone’s Chicago recaps! I’ll be with you on the elliptical today. I wold much rather be running!
This week I’m most looking forward to Friday. I have a busy week this week, two tests, a paper, and lab practical. Bleh!

Reply

I love that little face – I can only imagine how much fun she is in person. :)

I am out to run 4 miles in a few minutes (as soon as it gets light enough. I don’t usually work on Monday so I can wait:)). Another beautiful day is predicted in Wisconsin today so I also hope to maybe bike a few miles later if the hip is still cooperating after running.

This is a pretty quiet week for me, so I guess besides this nice weather, the thing I am looking forward to most is a breast cancer awareness walk with a friend on Saturday. :)

Reply

New reader—just wanted to let you know how much I seriously adore your blog!! I am also recovering from an injury…broken toe, so not fun……so I can definitely relate to easing back into running!

Reply

HEY JESSICA!!! Thank you so much for your comment, you made my day. OH NO…I am so sorry about your toe. That sounds awful. How long did you have to wait until you could run? Keep me updated with how you are doing!

Reply

Aw you are SO welcome. All summer because I didn’t listen and thought I’d just run with it taped up…..moral of the story here is to always listen to the doctor!

Reply

I have a pumpkin carving party later this week — is that lame?!

I AM running today! I got sick from running in the awful weather on saturday, so yesterday was a no-go. Whoops!!

Reply

funny, I actually ran today! snickerdoodle cake? count me in, that’s like cookies+cake. nom.
this week I’m looking forward to….I have no idea. being outside?

Reply

Off to run now…I waited too long because now it’s like 95 degrees outside and Im sure I’ll be melting…my fault! BUT I just updated my running playlist so Im excited about that! Good Luck with your CC meet! Im pumped about today because the Detroit Tigers play at 4est and then the Detroit Lions play in Monday Night Football tonight…it’s a mega Detroit sports day! whoo hoo

I am so glad you liked the cake! Isn’t the frosting the best? It’s so addicting!

Let’s play soon!!

Reply

whoa! That sheet cake sounds divine! I need to check that out! Thanks :)

Reply

that looks awesome! and I am going to attempt a slow 2miles today….still getting over the flu :(

Reply

I just passed through Utah on my way from Cali to FL…and when I say “passed through”…I was in the Salt Lake City airport. I can’t believe ya’ll have snow on the mountains already! It is still like 90 degrees in Florida!

Reply

That cake looks delish! And I am definitely NOT running today. Or for a few days. Chicago Marathon reeked some serious havoc on my body. I’ll be walking wishing I was running…

Reply

OH NO!!!!! How did you do? I need details!

Reply

I did pretty well considering the heat. I sent ya an email about it! You should come do it next year! Since we’re internet running BFFs you may stay with me.

Reply

Snickerdoodle sheet cake? Wow. I def need to try that!

Reply

Yes, yes you do:) Have a great day Mara!

Reply

This week I am going to try and make some kind of stew, either Irish or beef. That should be fun.
I will be on the elliptical this morning, at some point.

The Kidless Kronicles

Reply

YUM, you better post the recipe for that!

Reply

Hahaha oh my gosh “between me wearing the same outfit every single day this last week and my nieces choice in shoes today, we could go far” and the picture that followed made me laugh out loud at my computer screen. Too funny. That cake does look heavenly…I looove glaze and frosting. What’s your typical elliptical routine? My plantar fasciitis is back, so the pool, elliptical, and I are becoming realllly friendly.

Reply

Kristin, you are so sweet! I am SO SO SORRY about your plantar. I have struggled with this too in the past and sleeping with those weird boot things every night completely healed me!! I am really bummed for you! I usually just put it on manual, level 14 and every time the chorus of my song comes on I do an interval and SPEED UP. Or I do 2 minutes normal pace, 1 minute FAST. Intervals help the time go by so much faster. GOOD LUCK!

Reply

I was suppossed to run today but at the last minute I was asked to be on the medical team for a huge cross country meet yesterday (apparently one of the largest in the nation). It resulted in lots of hiking up and down hills looking for injured/missing runners. So my knee is a little stiffer than normal so I will be running tomorrow and giving it today off.

Reply

WOW!! That is crazy!! I bet it was fun to see all of the runners. REST and ice that knee and good job listening to your body!

Reply

This week I am RUNNING MY FIRST FULL MARATHON!!! :) (Sunday) Super excited/nervous! lol… may pee my pants ;)

Reply

GIRL, I am so stoked for you. You are going to do absolutely incredible on Sunday and I can’t wait to read all about it!

Reply

Bubbles never ever ever get old! And that snickerdoodle cake looks ah-mazing!

I’m excited for this week because I have monday and tuesday off so I don’t start school until wednesday..and then on friday I’m going home to run my second half marathon!! weeee!

Reply

DANG…gotta love short weeks. SECOND HALF MARATHON WAHOO!!!

Reply

Going to see Jerry Seinfeld! I bought my husband tics for our anniversary :)
I am going on a short run here right away, just waiting for the sun to come up!

Reply

AHHH That is so fun! I can’t wait to hear all about it. We love him too and I have always wanted to see him live!

Reply

holy crap, I just made that cake this weekend, too! It is to DIE for! In fact… I may eat some for breakfast.

Reply

I am looking forward to a week off of (from working out, not working). I have been training (for two tris and a marathon) since June. Wonder what I will do with all my spare time?!

That being said…I will not be running today. Mostly because I could barely get out of bed and down the stairs : )

Reply

Yesterday I totally got up and watched the Chicago marathon and it was fab! I have never watched a marathon before and it was super exciting. I ran 8 miles yesterday so today I think the husband and I are going to walk our dog. Congrats on your long run on Saturday!

Reply

THAT IS AWESOME! I would love to watch that marathon! Dog walks are the best…I am jealous of your dog:)

Reply

I am salivating over that Snickerdoodle cake. Must have now. Thank you for posting this, I now know what my dessert contribution will be this Thanksgiving. :)

I ran 3 miles this morning. My legs didn’t feel like working, but I made them.

Reply

You totally should make it!! Oh, I hate it when my legs rebel but good job on showing them who is boss:)

Reply

That sheet cake looks delightful… is it terrible that I’m considering making it for lunch today? Like Bill Cosby said, cake has eggs! And milk! That’s healthy.

I am not running today because I am a bit sore from running MY VERY FIRST HALF MARATHON yesterday!!!!! And yes, I will be wearing the medal and t-shirt all day and bragging to anyone who will listen :)

Reply

yeah, you should be wearing your metal and shirt all day and brag for like a month or forever!! Congrats!!!

Reply

MAKE IT TODAY…it is very healthy! Ahhhh I can’t wait to read all about your half marathon…on my way over:)

Reply

Ahhhh! I still need to write it all up! I decided napping for hours on end yesterday was more important than blogging :) it’ll be up today, though!

And THANK YOU Elizabeth! I’m pretty psyched about it still :)

Reply

I 100% agree with your biscuit statement. I am not sure what I am excited about this week… it’s looking to be quite, which I need!

Today is my weights day, but I am thinking about not doing the 5K on Saturday, I just can’t shake this cold and I don’t know if I will be able to run the whole thing…

Reply

OH GIRL….I wouldn’t run it either if you have the same cold that I had last week…AWFUL! Get well soon and keep me updated!

Reply

We totally had jell-o for Sunday dinner too:D Ha! There was black-cherry with bananas and raspberry with mandarine oranges. I am totally looking forward to my workout this week. Just some easy runs to get ready for the run I do at the end of the week. There aren’t any races around where I live right now so I am training myself to run down the mountain I live on and then back up it. The loop is only 3 miles but I have never been been good/loved running hills, and since my endurance is still down from knee surgery I thought this would be a good challange. And I really do live on a mountain, my house is on a dirt road so thats good for running too, right?! Have a great day:)

Reply

WHAT…that sounds KILLER!! Knee surgery, OUCH. How long did the recovery for that take. That is awesome that you live ON A MOUNTAIN. I can’t even imagine running up that thing. You have a great day too!

Reply

That snickerdoodle cake looks yummy! This is my last week as a mom of two, so I’m soaking up every minute with the kiddos. We are trying to make the most of each day.

Reply

LAST WEEK until the baby….AHHHH enjoy your time with your kiddos and make that cake together:)

Reply

Most exciting thing this week: My BFF is coming to visit!

Running today: Yes, ma’am – plans on my first mile-long run since my stress fracture. Can’t wait!

GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR TRACK TEAM!!!! I love reading your blog posts about your track team. Track is the one thing that helped keep me grounded while I was in HS – so I have such great memories of it.

Reply

AHHH Have an amazing time with your BFF and FIRST MILE….girl that gave me goosebumps. What type of stress fracture did you have? I will definitely let you know how my team does! That is awesome that you loved track so much!

Reply

BOTH tibias…. diagnosed after I did a 5-mile race that was pretty rigorous (i’m not a wimp, this thing was insane). But, I had trouble before with training “too hard too fast” like you had mentioned in a previous post :)

Reply

That face is priceless on your niece!
I’ve got 9 miles planned for today…but it’s going to be 82…ugh!!

Reply

DANG WOMAN…you will rock that 9 miles, drink lots of water:)

Reply

my tush is going to be on the elliptical as well. buh-mer. Also, my son is starting to only make angry faces. I’m over it.

Reply

This week I’m looking forward to Dancing with the Stars, The Lying Games, and Vampire Diaries. How pathetic is that?

I won’t be running today. I’ll also be ellipticising. But I did run 4 miles yesterday with no pain! *knock on wood*

Reply

CONGRATS on the pain free 4 miles!! Too bad we can’t ellipticise together…that would make it a whole lot less boring.

Reply

That snickerdoodle sheet cake looks AMAZING! Can’t wait to try it. Ill be running on the treadmill today…I’m doing a spring marathon that’s notoriously hilly (no, not Boston) and need some serious hill help…unfortunately there are NO hills where I live. Any good treadmill hill workouts you recommend? HAPPY Monday!!!

Reply

mmmm…. that cake looks amazing!
I love anything with cinnamon.
Your niece is soooo cute, I love her hair!

Reply

Thanks Lisa!! Seriously, cinnamon should be added to EVERYTHING!

Reply

I was sure your question was going to be about the dichotomy between people who like fruit in their jello versus those who don’t. I LOVE fruit in jello but I am constantly told that I’m gross by everyone I know. I’m obviously not from Utah and didn’t realize that is where I am meant to live and should probably tell my bf that we’re moving ASAP. Maybe I’ll just pack up the car on the sly when we drive out for the Snow Canyon half marathon??

Reply

AHHH Girl, you are meant to be in Utah. You should come to Sunday dinner when you are in Utah for your half marathon:) You can even send the request of what fruit and what flavor jello you want.

Reply

Have I have turned into a long run addict? Long run was the first thing that popped into my mind when you asked what I was most looking forward to this week.
Today just 4 miles. I think maybe the route of left turns.

Reply

AHHH That makes me so happy girl! What is your long run this week? PS when we were on a long run the PERFECT song came on at the PERFECT time and I thought of you!

Reply

Aren’t kids funny? My stepson is four now and always makes those crazy faces when we’re trying to get a decent picture of him. It’s cute, but sometimes you just want a nice smile!

Reply

That cake looks so good! As soon as our hot weather goes away I am all over that!

Today’s Run: 7 miles in my new Brooks Pure Connects. Love em :)

Reply

What a fun Sunday! Your family is just adorable. I must try that snikerdoodle desert. Yummy!

have a great week gorgeous girl!!

Reply

No running for me today – just a nice long Fall walk! My obliques are SO sore from the kayak.

Reply

I’m looking forward to the 80’s party we’re having on Friday! Footloose is coming out and we’re going to see it and then go out on the town dressed in 80’s garb. It should be fun!

Running? Me? Naaaahhhh…I’ll be doing some P90X Core Synergistics, though!

Reply

Your niece is so cute! I love her curly hair, my little sister (ok, she’s 21, so she’s not “little” anymore) has gorgeous curly hair and refuses to wear it naturally. Ugh!

Reply

your family is just too cute! have a great Monday. i would totally follow your fashion blog…it would make me feel more fashionable since I pretty much only wear scrubs and workout clothes :)

Reply

Once upon a time my SIL brought home a boy for a date. It was over the Fourth of July so of course we were having red, white, and blue layered jello as part of our meal. When we brought dessert out later he was baffled, ‘Didn’t we already have dessert?’ Um, dude, I’m pretty sure jello is a part of the “fruit group”. Right? Right.

Reply

good luck at the meet tomorrow!!

I am most looking forward to this weekend… even though it’s only Monday. I didn’t get a sat/sun off and I’m really bitter about it still. Since I keep complaining to you about it like you can save me?!

But on a serious note, I get to talk to one of my idols on the phone tomorrow night and I CANNOT wait (I plan on sharing details with you in the near future if you are interested… because well I just wanna be bff’s with you!) Ok bye!

Reply

Holy cow that sheet cake looks amazing. Maybe I’ll make that for my after marathon treat!

My run today was a 5 miler where I got lost running through the burbs of cincinnati.

Looking forward to the most (and maybe the least at the same time)? The marathon!

Reply

Just finished 10 miles – yay! I may never walk again – yay! Haha! I have a 1/2 marathon this weekend! After 9 months off, I got back into running this summer and it has been a long hard road getting back into it. Thanks for always sharing your stories – you have definitely inspired me to keep going!

Reply

Ahhhhh Amy congrats!!! You are going to rock your half marathon! I am stoked for you!!!

Reply

Uh, is your brothers name Dan? I could swear I went to prom with him. ;)

Reply

Ahhhhhhhhhh yes!!! I just asked him and he totally said it was you! This made my day, such a small world!

Reply

Today was a rest day! I was up visiting my family in DC. Lots of walking though.

But my legs appreciated the day off after a long 22 mile run this weekend!

Reply

Thank you for linking that cake!!! I CANNOT wait to make it. My family LOVES snickerdoodles- I think this may just be part of our Thanksgiving meal this year ;) YUM!

Reply

I ran today and it was one of those terrible days. My whole body was exhausted from boot camp that ended half an hour before… Note to self, don’t do boot camp and running back to back.
