With Billy:)

Yesterday, Billy and I had our longest run ever together.  We woke up at about 9 and waited around the house for the weather to get warmer so that we wouldn’t freeze to death. We realized it was never ever going to warm up.  I begged Billy to run side by side with me on our treadmill but we couldn’t agree on a show to watch as we ran so we took our run outside;)

14 miles with an average pace of 8:18.  Temperature: painful.  First 7 miles hurt mentally but every mile after that got better and better.  Awesome to have my bff running with me and picturing us running together until we are 115.

I am still completely chilled to the bone and spent a good hour in front of the heat lamp with my chocolate milk/glutamine combo in the form of HOT (burning your throat) chocolate.  Note to self:  Wear running tights if it is cold.

Lunch.

Errands.

Costco.  They had the best samples ever.  Pizza, hummus, candy, chocolate, soup, wraps, berries with whipped cream and ten other things that I can’t remember.

Time for the grand finale…..I have not cut/colored/touched my hair for a good 8 months.  Yesterday was the day to whip out the box dye and scizzors and get busy.

IMG 0031

Just what you wanted to see this morning.  Billy found it especially attractive.

IMG 0034

I think I may have mentioned this approximately 8 million times on the blog, but pizza is the only proper way to refuel after a long run.  Especially when it is from Papa Johns, it is the size of your head and you dip it into their garlic-butter dip.  I have always wanted someone to dare me to take a straight up shot of the little butter filled cup so that I could say I HAD to do it instead of me just WANTING to do it and people thinking I am weird because of it.

IMG 0035

The truly BEST part of the day…..family is here from AZ.  My bro and his wife are here for a few days and you better believe we will be spending all of non-working/school time with them.

IMG 0037

They are our favorite late night/fro-yo eating partners.  Remember how I said on Friday that ice cream lost its appeal to me now that it is cold?  I got over that real quick and enjoyed every bite last night.

Love Costco! Best samples eveer!! :D

I am so jealous that your sister can do your hair for you!! My mom used to do mine (she went to beauty school before I was born … i.e., in the 70s haha!) … but I stopped letting her because she was turning it bleached blonde, which was not a good look for me.

My favorite running buddy is definitely my husband, Brandon. We ran 10 miles together yesterday, and I loved it. Some days, I’m the grumpy one and he has to encourage me. Yesterday, he was the sore one struggling to get through, and I encouraged him. It works. :)

Papa johns is the best! I have no specific hair dresser, I did but she moved 5 years ago and I have never found anyone I have loved again.

Reply

Last night my bf hosted a bbq and for dessert we had grilled peaches with vanilla ice cream!
I ordered Papa Johns not too long ago, and didnt get any garlic butter. it was almost like opening an empty Christmas present.

My favorite person to run with is an old friend that I used to do long runs with every weekend. She lives in Spain now though so we only get run together a few times a year.

Reply

Wait, your hair isn’t that color naturally? I thought it was!
Have a great Sunday, Janae!

Papa Johns reminds me boarding school- half my allowance must have gone towards ordering pizzas, especially on days where the dinner served was yuck! Margherita pizza with extra garlic sauce :)

One time in high school, I got blonde highlights with a red color over top (as you know, my hair is naturally brown/black). It looked fine for the first couple of days, then the red tint washed out and I was left with blonde highlights on super dark hair. It wasn’t pretty.
Haven’t touched it since!

no after picture of the hair??? :) i used to try to dye my hair, but i did not have the assistance of someone who went to school for it so i finally learned to leave my hair alone!!!!! lol

Reply

Question… what exactly do you do to your hair? Obviously you’re dyeing it, but what color is it naturally? So curious. : ) I keep my hair my “normal” color because I don’t wanna mess with it and I don’t mind it too much. I try to get it cut every once in a while, but eh… if I forget, no big deal.

I am obsessed with pizza… there’s a place called Jet’s that is so stinking good. I die every time I eat it, girl. Pizza and Mexican food. And Italian… and Greek… and burgers… whoops. : )

Reply

Janae, next time you get Papa John’s, I DARE you to take a straight shot of the garlic butter sauce.

Reply

ahhh i love that you and hubby can run together!!! Sounds so much fun…me and mine are still working on that- the only time we can really run together is when we are on treadmills at the gym or when he’s biking and i’m running :) hehe

fave thing i did on Saturday- biked in a forest for 2 hours with hubby in Amsterdam- soooooo beautiful- fall leaves, rain, cold breeze, and exercise!!!

Reply

Congrats on the run! I used to dye my hair/highlight it all the time and then I decided to stop until I started going gray and HAD to. So I’ve saved some $ and enjoyed my natural color while I still have it :)

My favorite running partner is my husband! Nothing beats waking up every morning before the sun comes up and kicking out a good 3 mile run! Today I had the fun idea that we should hold 3 pound hand weights in each hand while running…HOLY MOLEY! It was just a tad more difficult than usual…but fun!

Congrats on the new personal record! I actually prefer to run by myself because I’m easing my way into running.. I’m not very fast or good with long distances yet! Maybe I should give it a shot though.. it might motivate me a little more! I had a family reunion on Saturday which was so so nice. Our weather was incredible!

Highlight of my Saturday: The moment I stopped studying (after 8 hours) for a huge exam I have to take.

I DO have a go-to stylist! Her name is Carla and I’m pretty sure I can’t live without her. I have REALLY curly, long hair and she has been cutting and styling it for 9 years. No one else has touched it. So you can see why I asked my hubs if we can pay her to move with us when we moved from PA to TX. The scary part: I refuse to let anyone touch my hair but her… so that means only when I go visit PA… so that means like, 1 or 2 times a year. Scary.

I’m a loner when I run. If hubs ran, I’m sure that would be awesome. But I do like running alone.

CAN’T WAIT TO SEE YOUR HAIR POST CUTTING/COLORING I’m sure it looks awesome :)

Great job on your run! It must have been great to have Billy run with you. I was supposed to run 16 but I got two miles in and I ad a really odd pain I never felt before so I decided to stop. I’m icing now and will attempt later! By the way, I LOVE running in the cold. There’s nothing like that hurt your lungs feel after breathing in all that cold air. I’m weird, I know!

What was the HIGHLIGHT of your Saturday?
Finding out my favorite ice cream shop now makes that tart fro-yo (29 calories/oz!) and in PUMPKIN flavor! What?? You know I got some after my attempted run!

Do you color your hair? Do you have a ‘go to’ hair stylist?
I pay a stylist to do my hair. I tried coloring my sisters’s hair once and left blotches all over her head with the color didn’t even touch!

Who is your FAVORITE person to go running with?
My friend Alison is my favorite running partner. We’re about the same pace and don’t always feel the need to talk when we run. Plus, I sing the Rocky theme for her when she starts to lose steam!

Reply

Your sis has gorgeous hair so that totally doesn’t surprise me- I literally drool every time I see a picture of her! (Is that weird?!) Let’s see a picture of your new hair!! I see the same lady at this really funky place downtown. I love it!

Saturday was mellow–it was so cold and rainy and snowy all day that, like you, I was freezing after my run and became worthless for the rest of the day :)

Reply

Wait, where’s the after pic from the hair dying??

I had my hair highlighted yesterday too! I got my pink highlights touched up. My hair now looks glow in the dark. It’s awesome.

The highlight of my Saturday was lounging on the couch last night knowing all of the chores were DONE!

Reply

My highlight was organizing my kitchen pantry! haha, lame, right?! I was driving me cuts though!
I do dye my hair, and have for a long time( do not even know my natural color!) and I just got it dyed Friday at the salon :) I only go twice a year since its kinda pricey ($150?!) and I keep the color fairly natural so roots are a big issue.
I love to run with two people, my husband and my one and only friend that runs.

Reply

Yay on your new PDR with Billy! Accomplishing new things is the best feeling :) The best part of my saturday was seeing my brother. I used to get highlights all the time but now I died my hair brown and it is so much easier! I still have to keep up with the dye because it fades.

Reply

I made to sunny San Diego yesterday, that pretty much rocked!
I go a salon but I went to beauty school so I could probably do my own, I am just lazy and I love the alone time, and catching up on the gossip mags. :-)
I love running with my girlfriends but my husband has started running so hopefully he will run with me someday. The thing is, his legs are really long so I am not sure how that will work out, one stride of his is like 3 of mine.

Reply

I absolutely color my hair, I have been dying it since I graduated high school, first it was platinum blonde and then brown and I even had a red phase in there somewhere and now I’m back to just some blonde highlights and low lights to keep it pretty natural. You have beautiful hair, I’m sure it will look great!

Reply

You and your sister are gorgeous :)

I’ve dyed my hair for YEARS but I really want to grow my hair out/get back to my natural color. So now I’m rocking the hot 4 in roots look and scraggly bangs.

Reply

I seriously need to get my hair done. Except for my bangs (which I just got in June), my hair hasn’t been cut since… January? Maybe? It may have even been longer than that. My bangs also need some serious trimmage. when I have them down I can’t see anything to the right of me.

Highlight of my Saturday was getting frozen yogurt after picking up my race packet for the marathon that is happening right now that I’m not running because my knee freaking hates me.

Reply

Dang girl, you and Billy were trucking! I LOVE Costco samples, especially on Saturday/Sunday, that’s when they are the best. Post pictures of your hair soon! :)
I love running with my Mom. We have ran two half marathons together and they were both such great experiences. Yes, I do have to adjust my pace, but she’s just so much fun!

Reply

Ahh congrats on your new record! :)

I’m jealous of the great Costco samples you had. When I went last weekend, the samples weren’t too exciting. :(

I color my hair once in a while by myself. I use a foam coloring kit, and it’s so easy. Seeing you dying yours just made me want to do mine! Happy Sunday :)

Reply

I went to a good friends wedding reception in SLC. She looked gorgeous. And I don’t think I’ve ever seen a couple more in love. So happy for her!

I get highlights! gotta stay blonde. ;) I have a girl I go to pretty regularly. She moved to Cali and she travels back, so for a while I was going somewhere else, but yesterday, I went back to her and she made me purty again. ;)

My fav person to run with is probably my Momma. I’m sure if I ran with you… you’d probably become the fav. But I’d have to keep up with you… :/

Reply

My favorite person to run with is Vaughn, my husband, although he is so much faster than me that at times it is frustrating, but still fun. We do speed work together a lot because then we’re at the track and we can go our own speeds and hang out in the rest intervals. After that it’s my girlfriend Terra.

I don’t do anything to my hair, I should, but I’m way too lazy for that.

Haha – this is a timely post – I just had an at-home-hair disaster. I wrote a post all about the tragedy: http://twinlane.blogspot.com/2011/10/hair-color-disaster.html

Hope yours turned out better!

Reply

I want to see your new hair! :D
Seriously! AND I am mega jealous of your running!

Reply

Yeah, girl!! I’m so happy for you…14 miles is great after coming back from numerous injuries! Congratulations…I bet you feel AWESOME!

Yeah, like everyone else, I’m wondering why you have the hair dye out, did you go darker? If so, that would look great, especially with your light eyes! It’ll make ’em “pop.”

I kind of hate the fact that I was born with poop dirty blonde hair, then I started to get highlights in 7th grade, but I have to keep up with it all the time, or my roots are absolutely RIDICULOUS! It gets costly, too.

The things us girls have to do to look beautiful. Ugh!
By the way, I am heading to Costco soon. Can’t wait for some free samples, especially after my long run today ;)

If it is going to be a suffer-fest then my favorite person to run with is the hubby. Some of our best bonding experiences have come from physically pushing the comfort zone together. However, just a good old run…..i’ll take my mom any day. She is a fantastic athlete and we keep the same pace…..it’s awesome!!

That pizza is making me think we need to have some for dinner tonight. Great pic of Billy and his slice.

Reply

Running with the Hubby is awesome! I almost always run with mine! I couldn’t imagine getting through training without him by my side. I do his tempo runs (he’s reaaaally fast) on my bike and he paces me for mine. We have the best conversations while running. Glad to hear you and Billy run together sometimes. :)

Reply

We had the exact same day yesterday. Minus the 14 miles run…which is awesome, way to go! I went to Costco, ate all of the gloriousness and had Papa Johns for dinner. Good times!

Reply

my fave person to go running with is you, duh.

oh wait that hasn’t happened yet:( I took a spin class today and my teacher was no way near as fun as I bet you are… she kept telling us to be motivated by things such as waterfalls in the distance and rain forests with animals…i was like really?? Tell me to bike towards the land of milky ways and fro yo and maybe I’ll spin faster!!

sorry, tangent. YAY for 14 miles!!! You ROCK!!

Reply

you’re so smiley and pretty! that’s so cool that your sis can do your hair for you. I used to go and see my bestie who is a hair dresser. She moved to Greece so now I have a male stylist who’s fab! that reminds me….need to make a hairdresser appointment!

Reply

Great job on your run, girl!! My run plan has me scheduled for 14 tomorrow. I’m a little nervous because I haven’t ran that far since March!
Can I come to Utah to have your sister do my hair? It’s in rough shape and I have no clue what to do with it. I just grow it out, cut and donate it to Locks of Love, repeat. Since I donate it, you’re not supposed to color it. Bummer.
The highlight of my Saturday was at the grocery store: buy one 6 pack get one free on apple cider & pumpkin donuts. Yes please! :)

Reply

Let’s see the hair :) My highlight? Hmmm. Not much, it was pretty dull. I did order a sandwhich for the first time in I have no idea how long at a cafe. Seriously, I can’t remember the last time I ordered something from anywhere ha.
I definitely go to a hairstylist. My hair would fall out if I didn’t.
I don’t run anymore :(

Papa Johns Garlic Sauce… WOW totally forgot about how I used to want to shower in that. lol

Reply

Woohoo, you and B were rockin it! And I TOTALLY dare you to drink a shot of that garlic butter next time you get pizza, do it in a vlog so we can all watch :)dooo it, dooo it!

And the picture with the “after” hair???
:)

Wow, that’s so awesome about your run with Billy. It amazes me how far people can run; I’m dying two miles in. ;) You are so lucky that your sister does hair; her hair is gorgeous! Please show us an after pic! ;) I used to highlite my hair until I went cheap and they did it super light on top of my black hair. I just went all dark and am done highliting. ;) Have a great day!

Reply

That is awesome that you have a sister to do your hair—did you bribe her to go to school for that?! ;) hehe.

I love fro yo no matter what time of year it is! Oh and congrats on the long run together—ohhh so cute!

Reply

Okay, I dare you to drink it like a shot! One of my friends from high school has turned into a major hair stylist/colorist in our area (lucky me!) so I will only go to her! Pizza and french fries are awesome after long runs!

Reply

YAY congrats on the new pdr! :) exciting stuff! also i want to see a pic of the new ‘do!

Reply

Hiii!!! So be proud today I ran my SECOND half marathon and I dropped 5 mints from my last one!!! yay!! Congrats on your long run!!! My favorite running buddy might be my friend Kathleen! She pushes me and is fun to talk too! Plus she has an adorable dog that likes to come too!
I dye my hair… I actually kind of have a problem hahaha…. my hair is naturally dark brown but for the past year and a half its been different shades of blonde!!! I usually dye it every 2-3 months and cut it every 6 or 8 unless it’s short then I cut it more often!

Reply

CONGRATS on your awesome run with Billy- NICE pace!!!!!!
You & your sister are GORGEOUS! Seriously you guys have some awesome genes!!
Papa John’s is the best pizza, nothing compares. & that garlic/ butter sauce..oh my goodness..so good! I always eat the pepper that they throw in the box too..I’m the only one in my family that likes it, so works out well for me :)

Reply

My Saturday highlight was spending time with my family. I loved seeing everyone and getting to spend quality time with them, especially since they live so far away.

I just got my hair colored a few months ago and now have to do it on my own. I’m so afraid of screwing this up!

Reply

Yeah! LOVE running with my hubby/bff–great balance of encouragement and challenge! I bet Billy is thankful to have that LSAT done so he can resume normalcy! GREAT JOB YOU TWO!

My fav thing this weekend was running 9 mi with the hubs and then hitting up a movie AND fro-yo!! The best!

Adam loves Papa John’s Garlic Butter Dipping Sauce. He was once dared to drink it and gladly did it. He is also the kind of guy that will do almost anything if dared, including drinking an entire bottle of ranch dressing.
Saturday, I hosted a garage sale and had a great turnout. In four hours I sold almost everything we had out there. I used to color my hair all the time. My sister is a hair stylist and has been doing my hair since I was a junior in high school. I’ve been blonde, black, and brunette. I prefer blonde or brunette. Growing up I had blonde hair and it got darker as I got older. Now it’s a dark brown and I haven’t colored my hair in almost three years. I will go blonde if I ever or when I start getting gray hair. Adam isn’t a fan of running. He tore up his knees playing basketball in high school and college. I usually prefer to run on my own. It gives me time to think and reflect on things.

Reply

I love doing my long runs with my marathon training group. They have gotten me through many runs where I would have quit otherwise. I have also discovered that I am a treadmill tramp. I would rather run on a treadmill than outside – I know that’s totally abnormal but I love having water at the ready and tv in front of me.

Reply

I’ve been coloring and cutting my own hair for about 4 years now. I just dyed and trimmed it, and gave myself bangs two days ago! lol.

Reply

YEAH! you rocked the run yesterday! it was so fun seeing you sweet friend :)

Reply

You’ve really hit that mileage fast!! Good for you for getting back up in the double digits so soon and hitting a fun new PDR! I had highlights once when I was younger but as it started to grow out it looked weird, so I stopped. Darker looks neat though.

Reply

Love how your sister does your hair for you…can’t wait to see it!

And congrats on your new personal world distance record with Billy :)

Reply

I have been thinking about bangs and a darker hair color…haven’t made any big decisions yet (although I did chop off 4 inches). I wish it were cooler here…it was a WARM day for a marathon!

Reply

Congrats!! I wish my hubs would run with me.

Reply

Yaaaaaay for 14!!! You are going to cruise in NY!!! Way to go girlie!

Can’t wait to see ya in Vegas :)

Reply

Great job on the run! It was cold here Saturday too, we had our first snow Saturday morning!! I was all dressed for my run in capris and a light fleece…and opened the door to 3 inches of snow! Blech!

awesome run! that is so exciting that you have your best friend to run with! it is so sweet reading how much you love Billy…ya’ll are just so cute! I’m so glad you felt good after your run!
