I think I might convert to doing Century rides on a weekly basis after receiving the below email:

Basically, I will be eating for 7 hours straight.  I am most excited for the lincoln beach stop…I haven’t had oreos for a long time and pretzels dipped into pb, I am sold.  I know you are all thinking that the race director asked for my opinion on what we should have at each stop but I promise, I had nothing to do with it…..they have just read my mind and I will always love them for that.

On another note, I have a new PW (personal worst but kind of a personal best;).

Photo on 9 7 11 at 8 17 AM

I had this package of sour patch bunnies in my desk drawer for five weeks and just finished them today. Granted that I was out of candy eating commission for a week due to the silly root canal, but anyways…..I can’t believe it but I turned into a normal person and only ate about a serving a day.

I don’t know who I am anymore.  Maybe it is because I am loving chocolatey treats more than Sour Patch Kids lately (PS have you seen the Sour Patch Kid’s commercials?)

On another completely random note, these are my latest FAVORITE workout songs.

1.  You Make Me Feel by Cobra Starship

2.  Keep Your Head Up by Andy Grammer

3.  Pumped Up Kicks by Foster the People (needs to be sped up a lil’)

4.  Run the World by Beyonce

5.  Lighters by Eminem (feat. Bruno Mars)

And favorite cool-down/stretching song in the whole wide world

1. Someone Like You by Adele

————————————————————————-

What is your favorite thing at AID STATIONS?  Do you love it when they have gu’s, banana’s, gatorade….what do you reach for?

-The best was at the SLC marathon when they had fresh/cold/heavenly oranges at mile 23.  I always switch off with water and gatorade at the aid stations and run right by the gu’s….I just can’t do them!  I think the century aid stations are going to be my new fave;)

What was the best concert you have ever been to?  What concert would you love to go to?

-I want to see Adele or Regina Spektor so bad and my favorite concert was One Republic with Billy.

Favorite funny commercial?

-Starbursts commercial with the dog in the passenger seat….HILARIOUS.

Which stop on my century ride would you be most excited for?

WHOA! I want to do a Century JUST for that! That sounds amazing! My favorite stop would be the FruitNFruity (I <3 fruit SO much) or the lunch stop (duh!) Don't love oreos….so sorry! But I bet they'd taste good after riding like 50ish miles!

I love water stations at races….once I drank gatorade (and hadn't trained with it) –let's just say I was NOT a happy camper after that race…. heh.

I want to go see U2 SO bad in concert!!!

Reply

Oreos and PB? Amazing, just amazing. There is a remix of “Pumped up kicks.” It is played in my spin class sometimes and it’s great, definitely more up tempo than the original. AWESOME you are doing a century! Way to go!

Reply

Cookies, chocolate milk, and peanut butter + exercise?! You’re gonna have the best day ever! My favorite concert was Jason Mraz with my mom a few years ago.

Reply

I did a metric century ride in June and they had all sorts of candy like Swedish Fish and gummy bears at the aid stations! I was worried I wouldn’t ever get back on my seat cause I wanted to stay and eat the whole time!!

I heart Adele. A lot. She keeps me company every morning on my way to work! Love your list of fave workout songs too– I’m always looking for more music cause I get so OVER mine so fast. Plus, my brand new running shoes (I know, I’ve only talked about them on my blog like 400 times) are coming tomorrow so of course I’ll need to music to accompany me on my runs with them!!!

Reply

CANDY….wahoo! So stoked about your new shoes, hope you have the best run ever tomorrow!

Reply

I just finished my first century on Sunday and mostly ate pb&j and bananas. Threw in some trail mix here and there, plus Nuun, and I was good to go!

Reply

HOW WAS IT!?!?! I need details! Any advice?

Reply

Like you, I turned to cycling when I got injured running, and now I am obsessed! The century ride was SO awesome and I loved every minute of it. Best advice is to make sure you eat at every rest stop. This was key as I never felt like I was going to bonk. You’ll feel great until about mile 80, then the legs will start burning. At that point, I was so happy I was going to finish it that I just ignored my legs and kept trucking along. I also made sure to take a sip of my drink every 15 minutes too. And the best part? My butt didn’t even hurt the next morning! I credit my extra padded cycling shorts and this stuff called Butt Butt’r.

You’re going to do great Janae!! I can’t wait to read all about it :)

Reply

I’m with you on the oranges! However, my favorite stop would be lunch but mostly because they listed coke. I did a ride where at after 50 miles they had root beer, and it was liquid drugs……..SO GOOD….even now recalling 5 years later I still feel its power……..yep, that good.

Reply

HOW LONG WAS THE RIDE!?!? Ohhhhh I love root beer as is, let alone during a crazy long ride.

Reply

GU’s are awesome for sure! I would love bananas too, and of course chocolate milk!

I want to plan a local race that had chocolate at the stations! Maybe a shorter winter run around Valentines Day! I need to talk to some people about it :) Its my dream race :)

Justin Timberlake was my favorite – he is so talented and put on an awesome concert!

Cookies n’ Milk – I love chocolate milk! But all the stations sound amazing!

Reply

Ooh love Regina Spektor! Can we go to a concert together??
I’m excited for your century, hungrybikergirl :)

Reply

Seriously, though….we really have to!

Reply

Oh definitely the oreos & PB! I’ve never been in a race distance long enough to have those types of GOODS!!! YUM!

My favorite concert was MxPx. Left coast punk rock! I’d love to see Regina too! Really I want to see Enrique Iglesias!!! I <3 Latin music!!

Reply

ahhhhhh!!!! LOVE PUMPED UP KICKS!!!!!! and annnnnny aid stations that are stalked to the max are my FAVE!

Reply

When I go to the training page the newest post is from September 8th. Is it just my computer or is that happening for a lot of people and how on earth do I fix it because I need me some motivation and oddly enough seeing that you’ve worked out motivates me.

Reply

My computer is doing that too…BOO, I will make my computer technician (Billy) fix it ASAP!! Thank you so much Anna!

Reply

It works! It works! It works!

Thank you so much! You guys rock

Reply

Im loving those songs too!!!!

I always reach for fruit and water at aid stations!

Best concert? Hmm…probably Rush. Amazing band for only 3 people!

I NEED the hunkalicious aid station INABADWAY! :)

Reply

I love the Run the World song by Beyonce! Great playlist btw :)

Reply

WAH I want to do a century ride now too! haha

Let’s be real, the food during and after races is half the reason I participate. Ok, not really. But I LOVE when volunteers hand out ice cold gatorade, chocolate gu gel, and of course, the bananas/bagels/chewy bar/popsicle extravaganza after the race is AWESOME.

Oh, and if you like Adele and Regina, you’d LOVE Ingrid Michaelson, if you haven’t already heard of her. Look up ‘Breakable’ by her, it’s my favorite!! Not quite a workout song by any means, but it’s pretty great nonetheless.

Reply

AHHH How did I not know about Ingrid Michaelson…I am officially hooked. Thank you so much!

Reply

omg i want to do this century ride WITH YOUUUUUUUUU so jealous this is gonna be awesomee! but really next yearrr im totally @ your house and we are doing thisss k cooll :)

Reply

I am holding you to that promise next year:) We would be the best of friends!

Reply

OH MY GOD that is the most awesome race EVER. It’s pretty much just a 7 hour long picnic!! I am so jealous and feeling motivated to..erm…learn how to ride my bike hahaha.

Reply

Um, eating the entire time? That sounds ridic. Sign me up! That is a dream.

Reply

I would be all over those aid stations! Awesome fuel! Oreos in pb – childhood favorite!

I love that Zoosk commercial where the guy is all into darts and he’s stretching..then hurls the dart at the board and hits the other guy. I laugh every time.

Concerts…I went to Backstreet Boys and N*Sync (and Hanson!) when I was young, and they were honestly so much fun! We go to a lot of local concerts (Full Devil Jacket!!! now they are A New Rebel) and I love those!

Have a GREAT day!!! *I ate a bowl of Fiber One honey squares with peaches and milk and thought of you today! Haha!

Reply

The Starburst berries and cream commercial. I had a bad haircut once that my friends still refer to as “Berries and Cream”.

Reply

BAHAHAH YES!! I LOVE that one!

Reply

I did a ride once that had an apple pie stop at the top of this HUGE hill! I dont know if I was more excited to eat the pie, or to be at the top of the climb.
Usually I just eat Gu or gatorade b/c I worry about upsetting my stomach, so my favorite ‘stop’ is the finish line where I can chow down. All the stops on your ride looks pretty yummy.
I used to love the Little Caesar’s pizza commercials.

Reply

APPLE PIE….um, sign me up! That is awesome!

Reply

Favorite funny commercial of all time – Snickers commerical from Super Bowl where two guys accidentally kiss.
Oreo aid station – hands down
I want to see Mumford and Sons, like enough to sell a kidney bad.
Best concert – probably Bon Jovi when I was 14.

Reply

LOVE THAT ONE!! Girl, I get to see you SO soon!!!

Reply

I love that song by Adele, she has an amazing voice!

Reply

Your ride on Saturday sounds like sooo much fun, great snacks always help too! Good luck!!

Reply

THANKS CHELSEA!!!

Reply

Oh sweetie, not pretzels in the pb…you dip OREOS in peanut butter. Heaven sent.

Favorite commercial? The Dairy Queen one where they blow bubbles with kittens in them. I laugh every single time!!

Reply

Favorite aide stations: Oranges. When we did Nashville it was the hottest marathon (I did the half) on record and storekeepers came out with trays of oranges along the way.
Concert: Just saw Train with Maroon 5 and Train was great. Aerosmith was great when I saw them. And Coldplay.
Commercials: Unbelievably funny are the Yankees/Sox MLB commercials with Alex Baldwin and John Krasinski. YouTube New Era baseball.
Sweet and Salty for the stop. Tuck some of those goodies away for later!

The Kidless Kronicles
Wag More, Bark….

Reply

It would be a tough call between the Lincoln Beach and the Cookies and Milk. Um, hello, this is why I love trail ultras. The BEST thing ever at aid stations (in ultras) is boiled potatoes dipped in salt. Unreal. I love espresso love Gu as well. I DVR everything and never watch commercials – plus in summer all my shows are in reruns so I have nothing to watch! Best concert ever is pretty tough – I recently saw Katy Perry and that was amazing. Good luck this weekend!

Reply

I would definitely stop for the cookies and milk! What a great idea for an aid station! Good luck on the Century!

Reply

Hey Janae,

Sandy and I were in SoCal last week…went to Yogurtland twice…you know what’s up, girl!

I haven’t done a Century ride yet but I’ve done 135 over two days (77 on Day 1, 58 on Day 2) earlier this year for the National MS Society. Lots of great snacks and eats along the way. Just try to be in and out at them and eat something, but not too much, at each one, and you’ll be fine. And drink A LOT of water because you’ll be sweatin it all out.

Best concert? I can only offer a top three in rough order…too close to call: George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic (front row!!), U2 (last night of world tour!), and Michael Franti and Spearhead at a small theater (very powerful show yet very intimate too)

Reply

I love it! Those food stations were made just for you! I think the Sweet & Salty station sounds like my fave. :)

Reply

I’m jealous and hungry now!!! I want all of the above :)

Reply

I’d love to see Adele too! My most favorite concert is actually a yearly occurrence. We go see Trans Siberian Orchestra every Winter. You should definitely go to YouTube and search for some of their stuff..very good!

Reply

Omg. I did a 25 mike bike ride and the PB & J sandwiches they had at the halfway point were like the best thing I’ve ever eaten! Some of my recent fave songs are: Super Bass by Nicki Minaj, Stero Heart by Gyn Class Heroes and Shake Señor by Pitbull!

Reply

Hi Janae!
I have been reading your blog for since the beginning of the summer- I love it! I am a runner and going to be competing in my 2nd marathon in a couple weeks at the Twins Cities Marathon in MN! Anyways- I finally felt the NEED to comment today-because Regina Spektor is my FAVORITE! And the best concert I have ever been to was hers!! She is great live, you need to go, and I will go with you!!

Reply

If we can combine the Oreos with peanut butter and the hunks, I’m sold. I have a very old bike that’s not race worthy and I’m contemplating flying down there to do this with you! It sounds like a blast.

Reply

I am sooooooo in the wrong sport! I just go for water and powerade at the aid stations, typically. I can’t stand gu either!!! I am carrying my own granola bars for TOU and I will probably have some fruit if they have any along the course on Saturday. Best concert, HANDS DOWN, was U2’s 360 tour I just saw in SLC in June. A-mazing.

Reply

I am training for a century right now, which I was really excited about… until I read this. Why am I not doing this century??? Am I going to be completely disappointed when I do my century now? Yes, yes I will… Whoever designed these aid stations is living inside my head. Maybe next year!

Reply

This is just amazing! Obviously I need to start cycling because that sounds incredible. My favorite was a giant jar of candy at an aid station on a trail race. I think around mile 10, and it was so nice to dip my sweaty hand in and eat some gummy bears. Kind of gross now, actually….I wonder how many other sweaty hands were in there too first?!!!
:)

Reply

My favorite is the oranges. I’ve always wanted to see Justin Timberlake in concert. The best concert I’ve ever been to has to be Gavin DeGraw, probably also because it was my first date with my husband.
This is the funniest commercial I’ve ever seen, probably b/c it’s so bad. This actually aired before a movie we went to see at the theaters.
http://youtu.be/MxW_ZCd64tg

Reply

milk and cookies station for sure!
a little lame, but i really look forward just plain old water.

best concert(s)-tie: john mayer and the strokes…both so insanely amazing.
dying to see: the killers or death cab

Reply

I just stick with water, but I dont run longer than 1/2s and I carry my own fuel.

Best concert I’ve ever been to was Incubus at Red Rocks. They are my favorite band and it is a beautiful venue.

My favorite funny commercial right now is the Sunkist (i think, tho it might be some other pop commercial) with the girl in a sweat band dancing all funky in random places!

I would be most excited for oreos and peanut butter! That is such a good combo that I never have!

Reply

I LOVE sour patch kids…but bunnies!!! OMGosh! :) I am so excited I almost feel off the couch as I was reading. PLUS what is /w those aid stations. I am officially stealing my neighbours road cycle and signing up for a century just so I can eat EVERYTHING on that list. I have a feeling after my first race I’m gonna want to do many more purely for the awesomely delicious treats :D YAY!

PS: you need to ask billy to buy you one of those head cams so you can take pics at each station /w out compromising your time!

Reply

Oh and best concert ever was POD and also Matt Good b/c I met him and may or may not have had my way /w him :P I want to see Muse and also Coldplay….Oh and I also forgot about this AMAZING Radiohead concert I went to it was so spiritual :) beautiful outdoor show and a rainbow appeared. = the best day ever!

Reply

Oh my gosh….everytime I see your dang posts about the century ride I get anxiety. I am supposed to be doing the same race but have not rode my bike in two years. Crap. But the aid stations look fantastic so we will see if I can make it to the Oreos. :)

Reply

Um can we pretty please meet up? We will be the best of friends!

Reply

That is def my kind of ride. It reminds me of RAGBRAI where you can ride for a week straight adn gain weight as you eat your way through Iowa.

I want to see Tom Petty!!!

Reply

Those are the best aid stations!! I am obsessed with someone like you by Adele. Whenever I’m in the car I blast it and sing my heart out when no one is watching. I love the other songs too. I want to see Adele too but the best concert I’ve been to was Taylor Swift she was an amazing performer!

Reply

ummmm I may take up biking just for the aid stations. PB and Oreos is a love affair that I haven’t yet (and never will) gotten over.

Reply

I just saw Ray Lamontagne and the Pariah Dogs last week here. He was amazing live. I just love it when people sound just as good live as they do on their recorded tracks.
Good luck on your Century Ride! I can’t wait to read all about it when you’re done – I’m going to have to live vicariously through you on this one. (And my favorite stop would have to be the fruit one. Can’t go wrong with anything there).
My favorite funny commercials are SNL commercials. The “Oops I crapped my pants” diaper for older people is so hilarious!

Reply

I am seriously considering starting up biking and doing a century just for the snacks, you are going to have an amazing time :D And I love Adele so hard, I have a playlist with tons of her songs, Ingrid Michaelson, and Mumford and Sons that I listen to every nights… it’s love!

Reply

dude, those fueling stops are amazing!! I sure as heck can’t ride a century, but I would volunteer to help just so I could nibble on extras (I mean…leave all of the food for the athletes…)

Reply

If I saw that a station was serving ‘oreos with peanut butter’, u better believe I would be first one signing up!

Reply

This sounds like the best race ever!!!!!
I’d most look forward to the cookies & milk aid station… yummo!

My only question would be, can they force you to finish the century? I mean, what if you just wanted to hang out at each aid station for an hour or two? (if you get what I mean…)

Reply

Right now I’d say cookies and milk but that is just because its breakfast time and I’m hungry :) Not sure I could bike with that in my stomach.

Reply

Centuries always have the BEST food. Love them! I have a favorite one that has a “bake off” between the aid stations. That is my kind of competition!

Hey, I posted up my Race Report from my 3rd Ironman this weekend! I would love for you to read it! Sorry for the shameless self promotion!
http://kacietri-ing.blogspot.com/2011/09/rev-3-cedar-point-full-race-report.html

Reply

I wish at aid stations they had water, gatorade, and then 50/50 water gatorade. I usually NEED the gatorade, but it upsets my stomach, so I either have an upset stomach for a mile or just go with water.

The best concert I’ve ever been to is probably Tom Petty. He was awesome (And crazy cheap tix).

Reply

That is brilliant! Let’s start emailing race directors about it!

Reply

I am guessing Century Rides are a kind of race? Or bike? It seems tempting to do it just for the food!

Lady Gaga’s whole CD (almost) is great for working out!

Reply

Oh my gosh was this race personalized for you?!? Sounds like heaven!

The best concert I ever went to was with my college bf on Valentine’s Day – Toby Keith! For us, that was romantic haha.

I can’t pick a fave funny commercial because I think everything is funny – literally my standards for humor are so low, it’s embarrassing.

Reply

Oreos, peanut butter, pretzels, fruit and bike riding?! That sounds like it will be the best day ever. I hope you enjoy every second of it!
I think the best concert I’ve been to was Ingrid Michaelson… she sang a whole song about Mexican food and it was wonderful. Regina Spektor is great too!

Reply

Don’t stop for too long at the aid stations! It’s tempting to stay and keep snacking but once those legs start relaxing it’s harder to get back out there!

i LOVE the aid stations part. The ride I do usually in September is 125 miles and every 15-20 miles is a stop with all sorts of yummi deliciousness! Brownies, cookies, candy, pretzels, Lunch, fruit etc. LOVE IT! Means I don’t have to carry stuff with me! To be honest I’m not sure I’d do it if it weren’t for the food and stops….. :D

You will love it!! The awesome thing about bike races is you can get through hours before your body even starts hurting at all! It’s so pleasant! And of course you can eat anything on the bike, when I run my stomach is a bit funny but on the bike I could eat anything at all!

Reply

I never reach for anything but water or gaterade, but I am running my first 50K trail race on the 24th and they will be supplying boiled potatoes, salt, oreos, along with the normal gu, banana’s, etc… I will definitely be washing my boiled potato down with an oreo! :-)

Reply

SCOOORE! I am now, totally sold on a Century Ride! Have fun, girly. :)

Reply

That sounds like the best post race food ever!! Jealous!

Reply

Good Luck on your bike ride!!! That’s A LOT of MILES!! I think the course support they’re providing is awesome!! :)

Have Fun and do GREAT!! I know you will! :)

Reply

The last cycling event I did was a fundraising event, not a race. It was a two-day ride, about 80 miles each day.

At the last aid station before the end they had rice krispie squares. But the best part was that the volunteers were smearing peanut butter on top and sprinkling them with Trail Mix!

Brilliant, wonderful volunteers! :)

My friend’s Garmin said she burned an extra 5000 calories that weekend and I’m pretty sure we managed to consume at least much worth of peanut butter, trail mix, and cookies. Loved it! :)

Reply

My husband is recording Regina Spektor’s new album right now! We’re actually going out to dinner with her tonight. The album should be out by May so look for a summer tour.

He’s missing a century on October 2nd to go to New York to mix her record.

I love when they give out pb&j’s, my favorite fuel!

I really want to see the Black Keys play.

Reply

I want to do a Century just to get all the grub! Have you every dipped Oreos in peanut butter. It’s so good.

The best concert I’ve ever been to was Green Day in 2009. They were incredible and I loved it. I can’t wait to see them tour again.

Reply

I can’t wait to read your recap of the 100 miler!! I think you need to write it from several points of view: food critic, your bike’s thoughts, your legs, and your thoughts!

Concert: Dave Mathews at The Gorge in WA. Outdoor venue, so very Dave!

Reply

bah! okay. i am dying because for 3 days now i have been meaning to tell you about the trader joe yodler-man pretzels dipped in peanut butter. okay. you probably already tried this. but the geniusness of it came to me and now i am hooked!! also, have you tried the jalepeno yogurt dip from costco? dip your trader joe pretzels in that and then die and go to heaven. seriously. so amazing. i need to make a vegas run for more pretzels. the 4 bags i got last week are almost gone…

Reply

Woah. I would take part in this bike ride JUST for the food stops! Have you ever tried dipping oreos in peanut butter? I did that once upon a time but I can’t remember if it was realllllly good or reallllly bad. Also your song list is baller and I may steal some of those – I’m considering becoming a morning boot camp instructor and need some jams!!

Reply

You should do it!!! I want to come to your classes!

Reply

That is the one thing i love about bike rides, it isn’t my thing, so i do them for fun and can stop at those stations. In a running race I have to race…
