I bet your week has been a little hard because you couldn’t check in on my latest embarassing stories, weird facial expressions or ice cream binges (just for the record, I did have it everyday I was gone and maybe even once before 10 a.m.)

The coolest of all the ice cream this week occurred today.

A square scoop of ice cream….genius.  Billy and I both got ‘Medieval Fudge’ in (my favorite) a cake cone.

IMG 8457

I don’t know why but when I use change to buy something it feels free.

For the first time ever I was able to use change to buy my ice cream, probably because it wasn’t at a place that I serve myself and they charge by the ounce…..hello, my purse can’t fit $10.48 of change in it to buy my usual Yogurtland.

IMG 8455

We ate by the lake while discussing my BIL’s upcoming HALF-MARATHON (Aug. 27).  Single Ladies:  Does it get any cooler than a half-ironman fanny pack wearing guy?  Let us know if you are interested;)

IMG 8458

I have to show you this dinner because I think it is in the top 8 best dinners I have ever eaten.  Halibut (lemmon pepper marinade), watermelon, grilled romain lettuce (sprinkled with olive oil and rice vinegar) and smashed potatoes (potatoes with onions, green & yellow peppers).

IMG 8461

And a bridal shower to end the night.  Note to Billy:  Clearly a cake pop makes me extremely happy, next time I am mad just bring me home a dozen of these.

IMG 8470

If you want to see pics of the GORGEOUS bridal shower and its food….my MIL took a bunch and you can see them HERE.

Fill me in on any EXCITING NEWS I missed this week?  Let me know what you have been up to!

-These smashed potatoes were the best I have ever had….I am not even trying to gain points from my MIL for saying that.

Reply

Oh! Thrifty ice cream? I haven’t seen one of those since I was a kid. YUM.

Reply

Glad you’re back!!! :D
That ice cream cone looks awesome!

My favorite way to eat potatoes is just a plain old baked potato w/ butter!!

Reply

Welcome back!
Thrifty always has some great ice cream flavors. Getting a cone there always reminds me of being a kid, trying to eat the ice cream before it could drip down your hand in the scorching Central Valley, CA heat.

Reply

SO happy that you are back in action! Where did the summer go? If you ever come to Denver I will take you too my favorite ice cream place (Sweet Action) that has incredible homemade flavors, or Little Man’s which serves ice cream and gelato out of a GIANT milk crate. Nom. Nom. Nom.

I always get confused when you call your BIL your BIL, because I just think of Billy. I guess he would make the ultimate BIL for someone, yes? But anyhow, come to Denver for the ice cream and bring your BIL because despite the fact that he wears a fanny pack he is not ugly.

Reply

Exciting news?! I recieved tons of LARA bars and am hosting a giveaway with them!! And…I will tots eat potatoes anyway, they are the best haha :)

Reply

Hah! The square ice cream is way awesome! Did it taste better since it was in a square? My friday was filled with crab legs! So delicious :D My tomorrow is a 6 miler. I’m thinking an ice cream reward will be in order!

Reply

After the crazy week we’ve had, the family is staying in tonight! Making something really amazing for dinner…chicken with a sugar-free fennel-tomato sauce (besides the naturally occurring sugar in tomatoes that is) with some ricotta cheese, baked potatoes (my favorite) and a romaine and fruit salad! YUM! I’m hungry….I want dinner now.

Reply

Glad to have u back girl! :-) Square ice cream is pretty smart! Chilling tonight and off for my surf lesson in the morning…whoo hoo – Honestly surfing is just plain awesome! xoxo from Trinidad

I just found your blog this week…but I am loving it.

Friday plans: going for a quick 6-miler right after work, then loading into the car for a 5 hour drive north where we will spend the weekend dipnetting for salmon.

My son and I are running a 1/2 marathon on 21 August 2011. It will be his first!

Reply

HEY MELISSA!!! Your comment absolutely MADE MY DAY!! That is the coolest thing ever that you are running your first 1/2 with your son…you will have to keep me updated!

Reply

You should share the recipe for his smashed potatoes! They look delish.

Reply

HEY!!! My MIL literally just cut up 8 potatoes…cooked them with a little olive oil on the stove, mixed in peppers, onions and lowry seasoning and mixed it up a little bit (left plenty of chunks). Let me know if you try it, have an amazing day!

Reply

Welcome back :)

I’m loving that square scoop…unreal! I also feel like things are free when paying with change…at least I tell myself that.

I love potatoes pretty much anyway…I think a thinly sliced hash brown is pretty amazing though…especially the greasy ones you get at a diner! :)

Reply

Yay, so glad you’re back!! I love my potatoes mashed!

Reply

YAY you’re back!! I’m so happy, although you did have some really awesome guest posts!!

I love any and all potatoes! They are m y ultimate favourite carb and will eat them in any way, shape or form! Grilled romaine?!?! I have never even heard of that! Sounds yummy!

YAAAAY I missed you hardcore! I love paying for things in change – I agree, it feels free!!!

it’s funny because I never thought someone loved ice cream/fro yo as much as I do…and then I found your blog. I think we should start a froyoholics anonymous group? It might be the best group ever!

Reply

ummm seriously Janae, that would be TOO perfect!!!!

Reply

You’re posts somehow always manage to make me laugh! :-) Hands down my favorite way to eat potatoes (esp sweet potatoes) are as fries. I try to give myself the best of both worlds – healthy and deliciousness – by baking sweet potato fries!

Reply

whoop! *Your not You’re!

Reply

“I don’t know why but when I use change to buy something it feels free.” <—– ME TOO

Reply

WELCOME BAAAAAAAAAACK JANAE! Funny that you should mention paying in all change for your ice cream. Since I’ve been home for the summer my mom and I have made Dairy Queen our totally rad hangout. We go all the time. It may even be embaressing but I have no shame so I’m over it. Anyways. Since we go so often, my mom has created the “Dairy Queen Change Purse”. We put all of our extra change in this purse and store it in my mom’s car. That way, we never have to bring money and it totally feels like it’s free! Even better, the workers recognize our voices from the drive through speaker so we don’t even have to tell our orders anymore! BONUS!

Reply

BAHAHA Okay, DQ is my FAVORITE and the fact that you have a DQ change purse absolutely makes my day! You made my day that they recognize your voice…what do you normally get?

Reply

Hahahaha. Well I used to just got a chocolate cone dipped in chocolate of course and then realized WHAT THE HECK AM I DOING! I’m at DQ! So my order is now a reese’s blizzard with chocolate ice cream. The workers know it by heart and give the perfect ice cream to reeses ratio. There is even candy AT THE VERY BOTTOM OF THE CUP. I don’t know what I am going to do with myself when I have to go back to college….

Reply

GOOD GIRL….blizzards are the bomb. I am going to try your COMBO asap and I need to become friends with the DQ workers so that they hook me up with more candy!

Reply

seriously, i JUST said yesterday, “if you pay with change, it’s free!” too funny that you share that philosophy, janae!
square ice cream?? NEVER have i seen that – > awesome! transport up to canada, ok?!

Reply

AHHHH THAT MAKES MY DAY!!! We are so alike. I will send you some ice cream:)

Reply

I missed you!!! So glad you are back!!

I would have to say tater tots are my favorite. Drowned in ketchup.

Friday night plans (you would love to be hanging with me right now)… Watching House Hunters International and making Rice Krispie Treats. I’m wild and crazy like that.

Reply

Ummm. Why do I feel like square ice cream will taste better then regular?

I’m doing laundry and planning my Trader Joes blog raffle while resting my legs for my long run in the AM. Clearly I’m the coolest kid on the block. :)

Reply

Yeah! Janae is back. Let’s all celebrate by going out and getting ice cream!!!! Thanks Janae for sharing some awesome bloggers with us this week. I hope you had a fantastic time!!!!

Reply

mmm i love potatoes!!! i’ll eat them just about any way… my fam always jokes that i’ve never met a potato i didnt like :)

Reply

I about cried when I read your post. I was born in SoCal and lived there for 10 years before moving. I so remember Thrifty’s drug store and ice cream. Even though it’s been 28 years since I’ve had it I remember Malted Chocolate Crunch being my favorite. I am so jealous.

I am in San Diego for a wedding this weekend!! And I went to Yogurtland for the first time ever since we don’t have them in Oregon! I’ll do a post about it when I get home. The wedding is near Ocean Beach and it is beautiful here! I had a beautiful 6 mile run this morning along the ocean. What’s your favorite part about San Diego!?

Reply

yay San Diego! I get so excited when people mention (and visit!) it. I love this city! (Yogurtland may be one of the main reasons too!)

Reply

Welcome back!!!!! Some of us met up at Yogurtland in Orem and you were missed! Maybe next time I can meet you. Looking forward to your antics in your upcoming posts.

Reply

AHHHH promise me that we can go when I get home?!?!?!

Reply

Of course! I was at the Nike Outlet in Park City and saw a shirt that reminded me of you. It had a huge ice cream cone on it and it said, “There’s no I in team, but there is an I in ICE CREAM.” Was that made for you or what? :)

We bought a new Tahoe today! Well, new to us because it’s used but now we can fit more people in the vehicle and it will meet our growing families needs.

I like my potatoes grilled with a little garlic and shredded parmesean. If I don’t eat it that way, I love baked potatoes.

We actually drove down to visit our parents this weekend in our hometown. Thankfully both of our parents live within 5 minutes of each other, which makes visiting for the holidays easier. Tonight my mom made homemade lettuce wraps for us, then we picked up my younger brother from his high school football practice and took the entire family to get snow cones. Love family time!

Reply

AHHH SO SO EXCITING ABOUT YOUR NEW TAHOE!!! Lettuce wraps are the absolute BEST!!

Favorite potatoes are probably tater tots. Or jojo potatoes with ketchup. Yum!

My Friday night was super exciting with grocery shopping, going to the bank, mailing bills, taking the dog to the groomer, doing laundry, and prepping for my 10-mile run tomorrow!

PS. If you decide to do a Yogurtland tour someday, the only one in Oregon is about 15 mins from my house so you are welcome to stay with us :)
