Tigers, Potstickers and Pazookies

Last night we went big.  We had heard that a local Chinese restaurant called, The Rice King, was the bomb.com and we decided to try it out.

I learned that I am a tiger and billy is an ox (Me 1986 and Billy 1985).

IMG 8617

Just what I needed, a place mat to reinstate the fact that Billy is bright, patient and inspiring while I am aggressive and candid (what does that exactly mean…I am too lazy to google it).  We also learned that ‘The Sheep’ aka my sister will bring trouble to the ox…..hmmmm.

We started off with potstickers that were amazing.  Have you had ponzu sauce?  When I used to work at a sushi restaurant I dipped everything I ate into that bowl of goodness including my candy and even took a few straight up shots of that sauce.

IMG 8620

Yeah, I don’t know if we ordered enough.  I forgot to tell you, this was only one half of the table.  My absolute favorite dishes were the Mangolian Beef (SUPER SPICY) and the Lemon Chicken (SUPER FRIED WITH A SUGARY GLAZE).

IMG 8624

On one side we had the beautiful Shelly and Danny (billy’s bro and his wife).

IMG 8625

And on the other side we have the Billster, me and mis hermana sipping away on our soup.

IMG 8626

It was AMAZING, dare I say the best Chinese I have had in a LONG time, and SUPER cheap.   Soda was included with the meal and I got me some root beer.  I don’t normally drink soda (and quit diet soda for good 2 years ago because it took over my life) but every now and then I need a root beer, especially if it is free.

After a few hours of House Hunters, Extrememe Makeover Home Edition and Cupcake Wars we were ready for more.

Enter in Pazookies.  Brownie and chocolate chip cookie.   Straight out of the oven with scoops of vanilla ice cream.  In all sincerity I will say that this IS my favorite dessert.

IMG 8627

And I lived happily ever after.

IMG 8629

I didn’t even remember that this picture was taken until I downloaded them on the computer.  The only thing on my mind was GET IN MY BELLY NOW!

Bloggers:  When writing a post do you WRITE first or PUT UP THE PICTURES FIRST?  Do you come up with the post title FIRST or LAST?

-I always put the pictures in the order that I want and then type what I want to say because the pictures are usually more interesting than what I have to say:)  Title always comes last and is usually the hardest part for me!

What is your favorite Chinese Dish?

-Kung Pao Chicken or Shrimp and the ones that I listed above.

Any other Tigers or Ox out there?

Rootbeer fan?  How about a rootbeer float…when was the last time you had one of those?

Love rootbeer. I make homemade popcorn on the stove (oil, butter, salt) all that goodness. The only drink that goes perfect is rootbeer. Sometimes a glass of merlot, but usually always rootbeer.

Reply

I love the rootbeer and popcorn combo too! Everyone around me thinks it’s weird that I HAVE to have them together. But it’s so good!

I usually write out a title first, but end up changing it depending on where the post actually ends up going!
We have a really awesome chinese place here…we know the owners, and if they happen to be there while we’re eating, they’ll send us out a free dish! :D
That dessert looks incredible!!!!!!

I am also an OX! Solidarity.
Blogging: I write first and then put the pictures in. It is amazing how blogging has changed the way I take pictures though. I am still learning and sometimes remembering to take pictures can be a challenge but I am getting there.
What is Pazookies???? Where do I get one of those pans???
Favorite Chinese: soup dumplings. And I have never seen them outside of New York City. The soup is INSIDE the dumpling. You poke a little hole, let the soup drain into your spoon and then eat the dumpling. OUTRAGEOUSLY good!

Pizza + Cookies = Pazookies! You can find the pans at Bed Bath and Beyond :)

I usually put the pictures on first because it usually takes longer. Then the title, then I’ll write the post.

Fav chinese dish- Mongolian beef made spicy at pf changs. Or sesame chicken from Chinatown restaurant.
And I’m a Boar. Diz is a monkey.

Haven’t had a rootbeer float in ages!

That last picture is absolutely hilarious. I always put pictures up first!

‘Candid’ means you speak your mind openly and honestly! It’s a good thing, trust me :)

And GAH Pizookies.

When I thought about your first question, I realized I don’t stick to just one way to write a post. I guess it depends on the content for me…sometimes I put pictures up first and then write around them or the other way around. I should try sticking to one method though, sometimes writing posts takes me hours!

Favorite Chinese Dish? Mmmm sesame chicken for me!

I am a Snake…when I was younger I wanted to be either the horse or tiger, they are my favorite animals haha. I am jealous of you :)

Rootbeer is seriously the only soda I cannot stand! Coke Float? Yes please

Reply

Pictures up first then write. I didn’t know we were both 86 babies :)

Reply

I have never heard of a Pazookie before but I automatically love anything thing that is cooked in its own little serving tray. Please tell me the secrets! Do you only make 1/2 of a brownie mix? Where did those tiny cast iron skillets come from? I really shouldn’t have read your post first thing this morning because now I want cookies and ice cream for breakfast… ;)

Reply

I have to agree that a pazookie is one of my FAV deserts. I have never made one at home though (um why have I never thought of this???) so I will be doing this asap!

I now want to know what animal I am (1982)… I will need to look this up, ha.

When I blog I do text first, then pictures and typically think of the title up front or along the way. Have a lovely weekend!

Oooh good questions! I’ve started putting up all the pictures at once and then building my story around them. It just flows better for me that way.

Favorite Chinese food – CHOW FUN. I love the thick and chewy noodles, plus there is “fun” in the name.

I am a Rabbit…just one year behind you!

Reply

I am year of the MOnkey I think…haha. I love Seafood chop suey when I get Chinese Food :)

Reply

Best face ever! :) That looks like an epic meal, and an even more epic dessert!

Reply

I’m an OX too!! Yay Billy and I are twinnies!

Guess what? As much as I DO NOT drink pop, I had almost half a 2L bottle of root beer yesterday too. There is something so delicious about root beer! I was at the cottage with family and decided I would treat myself :D

When I ate meat, I loved lemon chicken! It was so delicious. Now if I ever end up in a Chinese restaurant, I usually stick to veggie stir frys or spring rolls! Yum!

I want some of your cookies!!! They look so warm and delicious!

Reply

I usually put up the pictures last, according to what I write, and the title usually comes first (unless I’m having a hard time with it, then it comes last).

My favorite Chinese dish would have to be orange chicken! Mmmm mmm good!

Reply

Oooh, good questions! I’ve started loading all my pictures first and then building the text around them like a story. It just flows better for me that way.

Favorite Chinese food: CHOW FUN. I love the thick, chewy noodles, and plus the name has “fun” in it.

Whoops…thought my comment didn’t load the first time. Sorry! :D

Reply

I always put the pictures up first and see what kind of story they tell. So much easier to write after that!

Reply

I have to do the words first…because for some reason, blogger freezes if I put the pictures up first. It could also be my computer.
Um…how do you make a pazookie?
I think I’m also The Sheep :).

Reply

I have yet to try a pizookie! They sound amazing though!
I love that you guys go on dates with your siblings–that is so awesome!

I add pictures first, then words, then title.

I LOVE spicy stir fry with peanuts in it!

Ooo I forgot how good root beer floats are. Now I’m craving one of those!

Reply

I put the words first in my posts, and then add pictures I like.
I’m a rabbit (1987) and love me some Chinese food! But after living in Hong Kong for so long I miss the really authentic stuff. But when I’m craving something delicious I’ll get beef broccoli and lemon chicken–so tasty!
I make diet coke floats sometimes, not a big root beer fan!
:)

Reply

I do not like root beer but we went to a microbrewery that brewed their own root beer. I got it in my sampler because the bf loves root beer but I tried it and loved it. It was so amazing. Oh it, would have been awesome in a root beer float.

Reply

If you like vegetables, try mushu or mooshoo vegetables. I like that and chow fun, too.

Reply

Oh WOW, all of that food looks absolutely incredible! My favorite Chinese food is boring but delish – sweet and sour chicken, chicken fried rice, wonton soup, and egg rolls. Yummmmmm.

Reply

Title is usually first and I put in the pictures as a type. I hate when I can’t think of a title!
I love fried rice :)
Nope, you got yourself a rat here ;) Sweet, right? haha

Reply

I looooooove pazookie! I usually do Title first, then Words, then Pictures. It is so funny how everyone has their own little method for blogging. I love it! :)

Reply

PIZOOOOOOKIES!!! <3

I love shrimp fried rice

Reply

I write my posts in exactly the same order that you do :) Great minds must think alike.

I’ve never really had Chinese food but I do love some vegetable sushi…is Japanese close enough?

I am a fellow ox but I wish I was a tiger, because my personality seems so much more tiger-ish. Plus, being an ox is okay for a guy but I’d rather be associated with a slightly more elegant animal!

I love that sauce sooo much!!

I type out and format my entries and then add the tags for photos, if I am updating with my iPad. If I am on my computer , I add all the photos first. But blogger is kinda difficult when you want to move photos around…

I love ALL Chinese food. I can’t pick.

Root beer is my fav! I haven’t hadna float in forever though, probably bout to days….

I think I am a rabbit. Not sure.

Reply

I am a Tiger too. I believe that candid, when referring to a personality trait, means to do things on the spur of the moment, unplanned.

Reply

oh you are a tiger! I think I was a lion or something. But how cool that Billy compliments you, and vice versa!

Enjoy your sunday friend.

I usually do pictures first and words second. It just helps me get organized so it’s a lot tougher if I have no pictures for the day. I’m pretty boring with chinese food. I always get the broccoli and chicken. I’m a big fan of crab rangoons too :D Also, I am an OX.

Reply

I am a 1985 ox as well. When I used to blog on a regular basis (I’m easily distracted) I always always put the pictures up first. I am with you, it’s easier for met to blab about the pictures and those posts are my favorite kind! I love seeing all the pics. I am not a big rootbeer fan, except there is a booth at the farmer’s market with the best ever and I think floats are delicious. Yum!!

Reply

haha! i am a boar….my family always makes fun of me:) i love chinese food…so yummy!

side question: your sister’s hair is awesome! how does she style it?

Reply

OH I love chinese food, I always get chicken and broccoli and crab rangoons, they are my love! I finally got my sister interested in chinese food…so now we can order takeout together!

Reply

I’m a tiger too!! 1986 was THE year, for sure ;)
& I want that pizookie! YUM :D

Reply

holy yum that looks good. I am soooo hungry right now. Good thing Mike’s about to take me out to lunch or I might start chewing on my screen.

My favorite chinese food is crab rangoon, or really anything fried. YOu can’t go wrong.

Reply

So I checked and you don’t have this restaurant in Utah (we don’t have it here in TN either ) but if you have the opportunity http://www.bjsbrewhouse.com/menu
I worked there for a year and they have AMAZING pazookies AND…… wait for it…. they brew their own rootbeer and orange cream soda on site- delicious!
If you like oreos, if you can figure out how to make an oreo based one with oreo flavored moose + vanilla ice cream (my personal fave) it will change your life!

for me I do the pictures while i’m writing- when it comes point to put a photo in, I do it then and there or else I’ll forget.

Reply

I am a Monkey- so stay clear of me ;).
I usually do my post title first, unless I can’t think of one- then I do it after.
I love so many Chinese food dishes- Szechuan Beef, Mongolian beef, chicken & broccoli, shrimp lo mein… I could go on.
One of the reasons I knew the husband and I were meant to be together is because neither of us like root beer! You don’t find that very often!

Reply

My favorite Chinese dish is General Tso chicken but since hearing the calories in that dish could give one a small panic attack, I save it for special treats only and usually get chicken and broccoli, which is good too :)

Reply

I’ve sworn myself off of Chinese. The last time I ate it I felt like crap the next morning… but I did love General Tsao’s chicken! And nothing can be a crab rangoon.

I haven’t had a root beer float in forever, but they are pretty delicious.

And I want to know what I am now… I am neither a tiger nor an ox.

Reply

The Pazookie reminds me of my favorite, the COoKIE MoNSTER!! I bet it was DeLICIOUS!!!

Reply

I’m a tiger too.. woo ’86! I’m a huge Chinese lover too, my favorite is General Tso’s, it has a nice little kick to it, but not too much that it will set your mouth on fire. If you haven’t tried it, I suggest you go back and get it now!

I like to base my words around my pictures. Sometimes if I have something I want to talk about I will jot those things down on my blogger so I don’t forget and then come to them as they flow in the post. Blogging is it’s own little art form lol.

Reply

I need to get a mini cast iron skillet so I can make mini pizookies!

Reply

I haven’t had Chinese food in AGESSS- probably because every time I remember eating it, I felt bloated and like a stuffed turkey for hours later! But when I was younger, my favorite was the moo shu because of the “pancakes’ [aka tacos, I never understood why they called them “pancakes”]!

If you are ever in St. Louis, I have some action items for you:
1. go to the King Doh Tuesday/Thursday lunch buffet, I don’t even know the names of the dishes they serve but they are all greasy deliciousness and it’s a buffet so hellooo
2. go to Fitz’s Bottling Co. – it’s a root beer manufacturing company with a restaurant and they have every root beer/cream soda float flavor imaginable! My fave = Mississippi Mud Float – chocolate ice cream in yo’ root beer.

Reply

I’m a horse, lets be friends! :) I love broccoli beef, but hate the beef part, but the broccoli and the sauce are too amazing. I know, I’m weird. I have never really liked meat, and when I was younger I would lick the sauce and eat the fried part of lemon or orange chicken and “drop” the chicken part of the floor… once that little act got old and I could only say I “dropped” it 73 times without my parents catching on, I then started to put the chicken pieces back on the plate when no one was looking… I was SO gross as a child! gahhh hahah

Reply

I write the title of the post first…but writing it after makes a lot more sense. You would think being an English teacher I would have figured that out a long time ago…

I do like rootbeer, but Diet Dr. Pepper floats from Sonic are kind of my go-to dessert when I don’t feel like spending a ton of money on fro yo…soooo good!

Reply

love LOVE <3 the last pic!!! your expression is priceless ….and HONEST! and I like that. I am a DOG 1982!!! wooohooo and Colin is a SNAKE…..it said "just when you think you have them….they slip away" :'( I hope not!!!

Ooo, I had my first pazookie a few years ago when we were in SF, it was super late after we got back from our Alcatraz tour and we were starving, so we ordered way too much room service, including a pazookie ala mode. We still daydream about that dessert to this day! And, the title is always the hardest part of a blog post for me too!

Reply

I love chinese every once in a while! I don’t have it that often but it’s super delish when I do. I usually write first then put pictures as I go! Sometimes I’ll write and then add pictures last.
The title is definitely the hardest part for me too! I do that last.

Reply

Let’s be honest. There are two types of people when it comes to chinese food..Those who love it, and those who won’t admit they love it :)

Sure, chinese food is super greasy and hits like a brick, but it’s so tasty! My favorite is chicken lo’ mein!

Reply

I write the Title first usually. I load pictures last usually, but so not as good as you with this. Plus, only like 2 people read my blog so it doesn’t really matter. :)

Chinese?? Mongolian Beef!! Oh, and Hot and Sour Soup soothes my soul!

Root Beer Float??? Yes, PLEASE!! 2 for me!

Reply

Chinese food is one of my all time favorite food. Love Hunan anything and broccoli beef. So so good!

Those pazookies look fantastic!! There’s nothing like a brownie or cookie made in a cast iron skillet. Must buy mini skillet!

Reply

I usually come up with my title first – it seems to just come to me! I write and add pics at the same time, but I don’t caption the pics until after I’m completely done. Something with Blogger and captioning – kind of a PITA actually.

My fave chinese food is crab rangoon, chicken chow mein, and lots and lots of fried rice!

I love rootbeer and rootbeeer floats – that’s twice someone has mentioned that today. I may have to have one!

Reply

Order of blogging is text, photo, text, photo….all in order. Title is hard, I usually start with something and change it by the end.

Chinese food is non-existent where I live, but when in the states, I love egg drop soup and the hot chinese mustard on anything and everything.

We are Chinese Marriage twins (not to be confused with Siamese twins) ! I am the Tiger and my husband is also an Ox.

Reply

I can never pick just 1 favorite chinese dish…so we always go to a buffet so I can get a little of everything I like! Healthy, I know :)

Reply

I’m a rooster! :)
favorite chinese dish? sweet and sour chicken..mmmmm
&I love that picture of you! its so funny.

For my blog, I usually type it up and then add in pictures. Or I’ll type, add a pic, type, etc. (btw, if you do try to visit my blog, it’s been deactivated for some odd reason! :( I’m working on getting it back up and running soon though)

Reply

I normally write the title first but sometimes change it.. and I always put pictures up first and then blog around them.

Reply

OMG you made your OWN pizookies?!?! genius!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What is your favorite Chinese Dish?
veggie & shrimp fried rice, egg rolls, pineapple sweet & sour chicken… but I’m really really picky on the QUALITY of the Chinese food.

Any other Tigers or Ox out there?
TIGER all the way. Whatever Tiger’s are the sexiest and the best in bed so just tell Billy he’s a lucky man ;)

Rootbeer fan? How about a rootbeer float…when was the last time you had one of those?
I was hoping to have a FRESH brewed rootbeer from the Golden Colorado Brewery (GCB) this weekend and they were OUT! I cried a little….

Reply

I’m a tiger!!

We always make fun of my older sister because she is a rat… hahaha :)

Reply

I didn’t know you used to drink diet soda?!?! I am totally having a fling with Diet Coke after I gave it up for a while. Boo! I just love it so much!

I love orange chicken and sesame chicken. Yum. Yum. Yum.

Reply

Totally agree titles are the hardest thing to come up with! Sometimes I put in the words first, but I’ve already planned out the photos order in my head. Those pazookies look amazing!!

Reply

How did you quit soda?! I have tried to so many times and just can’t do it! Ah
