I don’t know about you, but I am a little weird about my schedule……probably something I should work on right?

So, when my alarm clock didn’t wake me up this morning to go get my Monday (after two rest days) sweat on, I was a little hurt by my cell phone.  Was he trying to purposely take away my morning time and my stress reliever before a crazy busy day at work.

For some reason it is really hard to get myself to go to the gym after school or at night because a.) I don’t like working out on a stomach that is trying to digest 8 lbs of my daily produce  b.) I feel like a zombie after teaching all day and cross country after school….usually I just go home and stare at the wall and try to break my personal record of how many swedish fish I can fit in my mouth at one time (29 in case you were wondering).

I know if I do go tonight I will feel SO much better…..less stressed, more energetic, less angry at my phone and it may even force me to wash my hair afterwards…….okay, probably not.

The beauty of a blog is when you put it out there that you are going to do something you have all these friends reading and holding you to what you said.  So……….I need you to ask me tomorrow or something how my workout went today okay?

Off to text my sister to convince her that she needs to be my late night workout buddy……anyone else want to join us?

Wish my students luck today, having a teacher that hasn’t had endorphins for a few days, experiencing girly time and sleep-deprived.   I am afraid for them:)

What was/is your workout!!!

Are you an OCD planner about your schedule like me?

Favorite night time workout?  Do you go to classes at night?  Do you like running at night?

-I really want to go biking but by the time I get home the sun will be close to going down and no me gusta riding by myself in the dark.

I love going on a walk at night… It’s so refreshing :)

Reply

You nailed it…..I am craving a nice long walk today!

Reply

I had the same thing this morning! I slept in and I woke up at 8 instead of 6 so I didn’t have time for a work-out anymore… Now it’s 7PM (Europe time :)) and I’m laying on the sofa after 9h of office work with 0 motivation to go to the gym. Why phone why?
What I do when I don’t want to go to the gym is… get dressed and bring a magazine with me, then I read for 15min on a cardio machine (no matter what) and then I’m already sweating AND at the gym so I start my work-out.
Good luck tonight!!

Reply

WHY DID WE BOTH SLEEP IN!?!?! We should get new phones ha. Magazines helps SO SO MUCH!! Thanks Laura and I hope you have a killer workout tomorrow:)

Reply

It’s hard for me to get up early and run. However, I have found that I don’t mind waking up early to go to spin class! I guess it’s the class atmosphere and the teacher pumping you up that helps.
Tonight I’m going to run. I’m hoping to get in 10 miles :-)
Oh, and I’m all about planning!

Reply

It really does help so much to go to a class in the mornings….I totally agree about spin!! Good luck on your 10-miler, you are going to rock it!!!

And I know you’re going to kick butt with your workout!!!

Janae – it’s so true about the workout endorphins!! I’m in a terrible mood when I don’t fit in my workout.. my bf and I biked 16miles yesterday before dinner and I was the happiest go-luckiest chattiest girl at the table! You’d think I’d just downed an entire pot of coffee… can we get addicted to workout endorphins?

Are you an OCD planner about your schedule like me?
-Medium. I like to know what is expected of me so I can plan my own time – but with my own workouts sometimes I like to be spur of the moment. It’s more important to have the time blocked off, not exactly what I’m going to do.

Favorite night time workout? Do you go to classes at night? Do you like running at night?
-I love night because it’s the only time it’s cool but I get way freaked out/scared even with my phone and hot pink pepper spray. You should drag Billy out biking with you so you can go at night! That’s what guys are for :)

Reply

What a fun thing to do with your bf and those endorphins are AMAZING!!! I love that your pepper spray is hot pink…you make me so so happy!! I would drag Billy but he has a late night class!

Reply

OCD!! yup, yup! (hand raised high).
have fun at the gym – > go, go, go!!!
mornings are for running or x-training cardio, for me. if i was to do an eve workout, it would be a class of some type, or yoga. i definitely have times of day which are preferred for different activities!
sorry about your bad phone!!

Reply

THANKS CATHY…you are the best!! I might have to copy you and take an evening yoga class, thank you! Good to know I have an ocd buddy!

Reply

I’m right there with you girl! I skipped my run yesterday because of some unappetizing hurricane weather. So now I have to run a 12 miler right after work! Not the usual (at least for me)! Just think of a PM post-work workout as an extra challenge that you are totally going to destroy!

And boo for evil cell phones.

Reply

YOU CAN DO IT GIRL….I believe in you, let’s do it for each other okay!! Have an amazing 12 miler tonight!

I have made it a mission to workout before work this school year. So far, so good! But because I have some down time after work before my DH gets home, I feel the need to workout then too (I get crazy restless). I go for a run or a long walk with my doggie in the AM and if I want to I will do a DVD (Jillian or Bob Harper) in the afternoon.

Today I took a morning walk (recovering from Sat’s 5K, PR baby!!), and will probably do a DVD when I get home. Although it is gorgeous out, so maybe I will take another walk? I like to take a cardio class in the evenings, if they aren’t too late. I have a 930 bed time haha!!

Silly phone, it had better shape up!!!

Reply

AHHHH CONGRATS ON YOUR 5K PR….girl, you are absolutely incredible! Great job waking up early to get your sweat on!! Walks are the BEST…I think I might have to take one today too:) Gotta love going to bed at 9:30!

Reply

Thank you! You know you need a dog to take with you on your walks!! Any puppies in HRG’s future?? Haha

Reply

I feel the same…I don’t enjoy afternoon/pm workouts half as much as I do first thing in the morning! Not only do I feel “off” physically, but the gym is also ten times more crowded…booo!

And just so you know, if I lived closer to you, I would SO be tagging along for a workout with you and your Sis!

Reply

I wanna work out with you tonight!!! Please please please… can I work out with you and your sister?

Reply

I planned a hard workout today, but then I got to the gym and my keycard wouldn’t work. So I went back home and went for a run and then a bike ride. I kind of feel like it totally messed up my schedule though, I like to have a plan and stick to it!

I prefer working out in the morning. Once a week I do the Insanity workout after work and I might go for a walk around the neighborhood in the evening but that’s it.

Reply

SUPER OCD about my schedule! If I mess it up, I get really annoyed and ruins the rest of my day. I have my iCal up all the time with everything posted (workouts included) the week before. I think I have a problem… hahah

Reply

Ahhh sleeping in on Mondays is the absolute worst! I am so sorry girl. I wish I would have brought my gym clothes and I would totally workout with you this afternoon. I need to start keeping a spare bag in my car for times like this.

Good luck! You know you can do it. Plus Billy is going to be at school anyway so you might as well hangout at the gym right. :)

Reply

I’d much rather workout in the am but I have to be to work by 7am, and with a 30 minute commute, that’s just too early for me to get to the gym. I do night workouts, but I ALWAYS rig a friend into coming with me–otherwise, I have zero accountability and I know I’ll bail :)

Reply

Friends help BIG TIME!!! Girl, you must have to get up so so early already…WOW!! 30 minute commute…you are my hero! Hope you have a great workout tonight!

Reply

i never workout at the end of the day, but I will make an exception for the occasional yoga. I’m pretty OCD about my plans for the day and go crazy when things get off…I set alarms that alert me 7 minutes before my actually “Leave” alarm goes off because I know I take a few minutes to find my purse and shoes and actually am ready to leave on time.

I hope your monday is great! Enjoy your workout tonight, because it WILL happen

Reply

Ahh you will have a great day and kill it at the gym later….It is always the hardest to get there, but once you start moving….the motivation just flows back in…almost always :)

Reply

Danielle…you are amazing!! Thank you so much for your sweet words!! Have an amazing day!

Reply

Boo for missing a planned workout bc of the alarm!!! That stinks! I know you will go workout tonight, and tomorrow you will be telling us how awesome your workout was and thankful you are that you went. :)

I plan, for sure. I just posted yesterday about meal planning, and I need to do another post on workout planning! I’m not really OCD about everything, but planning my meals and workout times – fo sho.

I teach Zumba four nights a week (Monday-Thursday), so that’s usually my night workout. If I have a night to myself (ummm…never happens), I like to walk, run, bike, yoga – I definitely prefer my weight lifting to be in the mornings.

Have a great workout!

Reply

I definitely have issues when my schedule gets changed!!!
You’re gonna have an awesome workout tonight! :D

Reply

I work out at night all the time. I’m the opposite, can’t get my butt out of bed for the life of me in the morning. The few times I have, it does feel amazing to have your workout done by breakfast but I still stick to my evening routine. So, we can be virtual workout buddies tonight! :)

Reply

I am taking another day off from running. I ran for over 3.5 hours on trail Saturday and then did 2 hours of lifting yesterday. Maybe yoga tonight?

I am a total OCD planner! My husband hates it.

I prefer morning work outs but if I over sleep then I will run and/or lift weights.

Reply

Janae – de-lurking here! (hate that word) I’ve been reading for a few months now – love your blog – and work ethic!
I’m totally a planner! And I typically have my day listed out in bullet form on paper. It’s the only way I won’t forget something.

AHHHH I AM STOKED that you commented because now I know about your blog…and I am hooked. Can I pretty please have your abs!!! You are my hero and your little boy and girl are the cutest things EVER!!

Thank you ma’am. Keep stopping by – I’ll do the same!

It WILL be 12 miles today… A girl on my training team and I both missed our last long run on Saturday before the Chicago Half so we’re attempting to make it up tonight! Ahhh!!

Reply

GOOD LUCK!!! Girl, you are going to do amazing in Chicago!! Have a great run!

I’m a strong believer in not working out when you don’t feel like it…I mean, it’s one thing if you’re a person who has a really hard time getting to the gym. But, you regularly work out 5 – 6 days a week, and I think it’s alright if you skip 3 days in a row every once in a while, it’s not like you’ll start hating the gym all of a sudden or have a hard time getting back into it. These “rules” about not taking too many rest days are for people who not naturally inclined to get their sweat on.

Reply

I completely agree with you!! I love working out before work because the whole day goes more smoothly and I am a happier teacher and have a lot more patience:) Thanks Mia!

Reply

I find it hard to work out at night too. I feel so full of food from the day and it makes me roo lethargic to push myself. I usually end up doing an easy hour on the elliptical while watching tv. Better than nothing I guess!!

Today I hit a track for my first real outdoor speed workout and it was amazing! I think I have fallen in love with speed training. I don’t think it will ever make me as fast as you but I love to see any improvement, even If it’s just a little!

I am completely OCD. I have my week workouts typed and printed and sitting by my bed so I know what I have to do every single day! :)

Reply

Do it up! I need motivation too. I’m so exhausted tonight so even if I go for 30 minutes I know I’ll be happy and it will be worth it.

Let’s do it! I’ll ask you tomorrow and you better say yes…as will I!

Reply

oof! Those poor children. They’ll be in my prayers tonight ;)
My workout was a heavy chest and arms routine. I wouldn’t be lying if I told you that my arms are still kind of shaking…and I’ve been done working out for over 8 hours now…. :O !
I’m a total OCD when it comes to planning my schedule!! I have to be that way though because then nothing would get done and I’d be late to everything.
Favorite night time workout? Does jumping into bed count??

Hope your workout went great! :D

Reply

So weird, similar thing happened to me today! I didn’t get to bed as early as I wanted to last night so I decided to sleep in and do my workout after work. I was really looking forward to trying out my new Physique 57 DVD but my bf just called and asked if we could go out to dinner with his mom and grandma tonight instead. Despite living 30 minutes away we haven’t seen them in months so I couldn’t say no! I guess a day off wonl’t kill me. Tomorrow I only have a 3 mile run planned (week 5 training for my first half-marathon) so I guess I’ll try out that DVD after that.

Good luck with your workout tonight!

Reply

I prefer morning workouts. Curious why you referred to that bad cellphone as a “he?” lol! I get the whole hair thing. I went running this afternoon. I will be working out at 9:00 in the morning. I just don’t see the purpose of washing my hair tonight, when I will sweat in less than 12 hours! Enjoy your workout both in the gym and with the swedish fish!

Reply

I am so a morning exerciser. If i do anything at night its strength because i love getting a good sweat going in the am whether if its from running or biking and usually run out of time for my strength so i do that at home in order to “earn” my after dinner dessert. I agree that you will feel better if you go on nights like that I just tell myself i’ll go for half and see how i feel and then end up pushing through to my original goal.

Reply

I am a morning exerciser through and through. However, the winds of Hurricane Irene kept me up last night and an am run was not happening today. I did force myself to run after work and feel so much better for it. It was sunny and warm – that doesn’t always happen at 5am :)
Janae – go for it!! You’ll be glad you did.

Reply

I have to run in the evening because I wake up too early for work to ever work out beforehand. Tonight I plan on running around 5 miles because I need to start training for some races! Well…I guess if I ever register for any of them.

Reply

I hate when that happens! I say get your booty to the gym tonight, drag your sister- and get some froyo as a reward!

I wish I had energy to say GO – but today – I had all great intentions of working out until our air, power and electric went out….with another fridge full of food…GRRRR! Needless to say, no workout…but I finally got the internet working and thats about it…. Oh wait…i did to my 80 pushups…does that count as a workout? OK – done pouting…GO WORKOUT GIRL… lol

I get so thrown off if I don’t have my time to prep for my week on MOndays!

Reply

ahh, that happend to me the other day too! I forgot to hit save on the alarm. Sheesh. I hate working out in the evening, i’m ready for dinner instead. haha.

This post is so funny because I’m the exact opposite. I always end up working out mid afternoon and I always intend to wake up and go first thing. Funny how everyone is different…

Reply

This doesn’t really have to do with what you are talking about, but I just want to say that even though I only went to your spin class like 4-5 times (I was just testing it out and had never gone to spin before) I totally miss it! The classes in spanish fork are not my style :P Good luck being motivated to go, maybe if Billy goes with you, you would have more fun.

that is supposed to be a face with a tongue sticking out? not smiling LOL…

OH TIFFANY…You made my day!! I am going to be teaching at the University gym in a few weeks, is that too far of a drive for you? I liked the tongue picture:)

When you coach cross country, can you also do the workout with the kids too? I remember in high school that the assistant coach would normally do the runs with us, and the head coach would remain at the school. Not sure if you need to remain at the school to wait for people to get back, and also to monitor things.

Reply

HEY YOU!!! I can’t run with them yet just because I really want to take things slowly and so I ride my bike with them….it is a lot of fun!

Reply

Recovery run today! Gotta make sure I’m in working order after my 23 miles on Saturday. I was BUMMED you didn’t get to ride during the ironman half! However, your BIL KILLED it! So amazing. Those ironman people are unbelievable. (And I have a feeling you are going to be one of those people….)

Now stop being lazy and go to the gym RIGHT NOW!!! You’ll regret it if you don’t.

Can you meet up on Thursday afternoon?

Reply

LOVE TOUGH LOVE:) Would you hate me if I had to reschedule until next Thursday? I had to move a cross country practice around and won’t be able to get there until after 6!! Do you hate me now?

No joke. I am exhausted but need to put in some mileage today. OH! And I totally thought of you today during lunch. I had a ginormous salad and a bag of goldfish on the side – what did I do??

You guessed it. Sprinkled (or rather drowned) my salad in goldfish. DELICIOUS. So what if the girl across from me glared at me for it. You were right!

Reply

Please tell me you added the whole bag to your salad!! People will glare but I think the deliciousness is totally worth it!

Not all! It was the snack size ones (which I don’t even think are big enough for a 2 year old) so I saved a little for a later snack!

I’m pretty sure OCD Planner is my middle name… Right after Umiulaikaahumanu. In fact I’m texting you a picture of my weekly planner right now, you are already written in every Sunday night for the rest of the this month and next from 8:30 to 10:00pm not kidding! It is under the heading, “Rest, Relax and Read Janae’s Blog”… Do Not Disturb Me during this time! Yeah for me and figuring out how to comment!

Reply

MAKENA!!! THIS MAKES MY DAY THAT YOU FIGURED OUT THE COMMENTING…..seriously, I am smiling so big because of this!!! Oh girl….yes, I know about your planning OCD but you rubbed off on me a little and thank goodness. Do you remember your planner in high school that was filled out to the T!!! Um, your Sunday night ritual makes me SO happy!! Do you use your iPhone to schedule things now? I LOVE YOU MAKENA!!
