For some reason I felt the need to hold up my shirt while ellipticizing so that you could read what it said better, but I don’t think it helped any….instead it just looks like I am checking to see if I am permanently smelly because I forgot my deodarant at home yesterday.  I think I am.

Anyway…..today I woke up late but still had time to squeeze in a quick 30 minute session on the elliptical doing the manual mode (for some reason that mode gives me a way better workout than the other ones…..why did I just learn this) and will probably go later for weights (since I don’t have a life when Billy has night classes on Monday and Wednesday nights.  Maybe I will see how long of a nap I can take after cross-country practice and still be able to fall asleep for the night at 9:30).

Here’s my question(s)……..

Do you wear race shirts?  What is your favorite race shirt you have ever gotten?  What would be the features of the best race shirt ever?

Do you wear race shirts that you didn’t actually run?

-Yep, just this one because it is my favorite (and it is time to do laundry).  It is so comfortable and by far the cutest one I have but I didn’t run it because my femurs decided to be all broken and stuff and made me miss the race.

Did you have a good workout today?

I most definitely wear my race shirts! Mostly in the winter because they are great for layering. My favorite shirt is from the Outer Banks half marathon because it says “Get your AAAARRRGGGHH on!” on the back. They like pirates down there.

I do wear my RnR Virginia Beach shirt from last year even though I didnt run. I was like you and had cracked a femur and a tibia but I paid a lot for that entry so I was gonna wear the shirt!

No workouts for me today! Resting! :)

I hate race shirts. They never fit right. If races gave out tank tops, or like, paired up with lululemon or something, I would wear them all the time. Also, race knee socks. How cool would that be?

I wear race shirts for casual wear, unless its a race that gives tech shirts – then I will run in them. I am a dork and actually really like race shirts!

I love all my race shirts, especially the loud and obnoxious ones that sport bright colors. I have a few race shirts that I wear for races I never ran. One is from Boston. It serves more as an inspiration to know where I want to go.

I used to not wear race shirts out because I didn’t want to feel like I was “bragging” about running marathons, etc. Then someone told (reminded) me I should be proud of those races, so I have started wearing them.
I don’t know if I have a favorite race shirt, but the ones I got at Disney and the Marine Corps Marathon were all nice shirts. I just like them long. I hate when shirts are so short that they creep up. Bah.
I ran the Atlantic City Half Marathon a few years ago, but the shirt they gave us says MARATHON. I felt too guilty about wearing it since I didn’t run the full. I just use it as a workaroundthehouse shirt now, so it’s covered in paint. :)

What is your training right now? Do you schedule your work-outs? I see you do a lot of elliptical. :-)
It went pretty bad the other day for me… I should stick to morning work-outs.

Reply

If it’s a tech shirt, I’ll wear it. Regular t-shirts I wear as painting or cleaning up the yard clothes. You technically paid for it and I’m cheap, so why not :)

I have so many race shirts that it isn’t even funny. Thats what happens when you decide to run a race every single weekend. ha!

The shirts from the all girls half marathon last week are seriously the best! Like I am in love and would seriously wear it every day if I could. They are pink, and fitted, and light way and so stinking cute!

I did speedwork this morning and wanted to cry. Oh yeah and I sweated so bad I had to clean the floor under the treadmill. Just ask Ash she had to witness. Maybe that girl that took my treadmill with the fan just to walk will re-evaluate that decision after she had to smell me. he he! Okay sorry for the longest post ever. I am stuck at work and obviously have nothing better to do than write you a novel. :)

I have collected so many over the years that I could wear one every day for three months and not have to do laundry! Since I have so many I recently turned my oldest ones, which are 10+ years old and from high school, into a quilt.

I wear race shirts AFTER the race, but wearing them during the race is as dorky as wearing the concert Tee to the concert. ;)

kills me every time I see ppl do that!

Reply

I wear them simply because they are free workout shirts. I’m not wearing them like, oh I ran this, I wear them because I like to run in tech tees because they help with my rashes.

They’re usually ugly, but oh well!!

I always rock my finisher shirts. My favorite right now is my 2010 NYCM shirt. I loved the race and feel great in it because the race has such stature.

I do have a couple shirts from races I didn’t run, but I did volunteer work for. Otherwise I wouldn’t rock a shirt for a race I didn’t run. Great post.

Getting the shirt is probably 3/4 of the reason I sign up for any race. I have a ton – but my favorite is from my 1/2 marathon in April. It’s dry-fit so it wicks nicely. The only downside is that it’s WHITE, my least favorite, because you can see right through it. I leave that sort of show for Travis only.

Reply

My favorite race shirt is the one I got from the Salt Lake Running Co Free 5k this past April. Yes, it was FREE and my favorite shirt!
I’m pretty new to running, so no shirts from races I haven’t run. I just missed Hobble Creek, but you don’t get a shirt for that one until after you finish.
Today’s workout will be running a few miles on the TM and then spin class.

Let me start with the NO, I did not have a good workout. All due to trainer Victor and the calf machine. But it will be worth it in the long run.

I DO wear race shirts. Typically NOT of a race I didn’t run with one exception. My sister got me a great IronGirl shirt that has all of the features I like in a shirt. V-neck, dry fit, contoured shape. My favorite shirt right now is my “run trails” shirt.

And I wasn’t kidding – I will send you EVERY GRAPE SKITTLE from the big bag I get at Sam’s Club. Be on the lookout!

I only have race shirts from a couple 5ks so far. Most are just cotton shirts I use to sleep in and the only technical tee I got is HUGE because they ran out of sizes.

After my first half I’m sure I’ll rock the shirt whenever I can at the gym and out running. I’d love a long sleeve race shirt!

Reply

I wear them all the time. Training, around town, whatever. Just never during the actual race. NEVER.

Reply

I too am anti-wearing-the-shirt-during-the-actual-race. That includes shirts from previous years. Actually, I don’t wear any race shirts during any race.

AGREED!

Reply

Yes! I agree! Thou-shall-not-wear-race-shirts-on-the-day-of-the-race!

Reply

Of course I use my race shirts! Any free wicking shirt is a great shirt!

Reply

I love my race shirts! I really like when they give dryfit/wicking shirts especially.

Reply

Mine get added to the pajama pile. I hardly ever wear them while working out b/c I hate shirts with sleeves when I’m hot and sweaty. I solely workout in tank tops!

Reply

I wear a lot of my race shirts, but actually made a quilt out of the ones I don’t wear. I couldn’t bear to part with them!

Reply

i totally wear my race shirts. the tech fabric ones when i work out and the cotton ones to bum around or sleep in. i think i have one that i didn’t run, and i think i got it at the end of year college yard sale. mostly because it was a tech shirt and i don’t have many.

i got a “good” workout session in. not as fast as i wanted but it feels good to get quality workouts in regardless.

Reply

I wear only cute race shirts out. The rest I get in XL and wear them to bed. The technicals that fit right are my fav, but usually few and far between. I will not wear a shirt for a race that I didn’t run. Seems like cheating to me. :)

Reply

ha before I read the writing I just figured you were trying to say you were smelly.

I wear my race shirts, but usually for cross training or something. I don’t understand how shirts from a running race end up being the least comfortable to run in….

my workout today=sleeping 18 hours and putting saltines in my mouth before going to work and hoping that I’m done being sick.

Reply

I wear race shirts to workout! But it’s been too hot lately to rock them. I like wearing tanks in the summer.
The best race shirt would be a loose tank race shirt. How awesome would that be!? You could then layer it in the winter months and wear it alone in the summer. Perfect.
Tonight’s workout = Meeting up with The Running Company running group and getting a good 5 miles in Central Park :-)

Now that tech shirts are standard, I only wear tech race shirts. The cotton ones are being donated to Goodwill. My favorite so far is from the Soldier Field 10 in Chicago. Here is someone else’s picture of it: http://bringmesugar.files.wordpress.com/2011/05/sf10mirace.jpg?w=385&h=515. That’s the women’s shirt (so it actually fits a woman’s body!) and the men’s shirt came in white. I feel like the guys were cheated. Our shirt is soooo much cuter. Anyway, on the back of the shirt, just below the neckline, is the date of the race (5.28.11).

Reply

i wear my race shirts all the time. The rock n’ roll ones i wear as layering during the winter for long runs because they breath my sweat easily, but my oregon 1/2 marathon is the best because it’s v-neck and woman’s fit!

Reply

What workout do you usually do when you’re on the elliptical?

(I’ve never strayed from “Manual” mode….always been curious, but I am quite the creature of habit!)

Reply

I used to do random and I feel like I didn’t sweat nearly as much as I do on manual!

I LOVE getting race shirts – I am amassing a solid collection, especially since I started running this year! I’m hoping to make a ‘runner’s badge quilt’ out of them :) No races I didn’t run allowed in the badge quilt I’m afraid!

I tend not to wear most race shirts because a) I’m a running wear snob and if it’s not lululemon (pretty underarmour stuff is acceptable) or a few other brands that I like, then I don’t wear it; b) most race shirts are cotton, and I refuse to run in sweat-absorbing, chafing cotton; and c) I am perpetually late for EVERYTHING and there are never size small shirts left by the time I get to a race, so most of my race shirts are too big. The only ones that fit are the pre-order ones!

Reply

It depends… I wear them all as sleep shirts or yardwork shirts, but there are a select few I would wear anywhere. I have one from a Jackson Hole 10k race I did in June… It’s girl cut- shorter length and sleeves, wider neck… It’s cute. Plus, it’s from Jackson, Wy! Need I say more? I also really take care of the ones that I worked hard for– like my conference champs shirt. I worked but butt off for that baby.

Reply

I do wear my race shirts, if they fit right. The tech shirts I wear when working out and my cotton ones I will wear on sweat pants day, so like everyday.

I had a good workout today, it was an easy 45 min ride and I got to see a few friends out there, so it was fun.

Reply

Love wearing them to the gym. Especially the long sleeved ones :) So much easier than grabbing a jacket in the morning. I keep the same one in my gym bag for a week sometimes (not kidding). Do a lot of races still do cotton shirts? Even the 5k’s here in town offer tech shirts. Maybe that’s why our race entry fees are so high…(I never claimed to be a genius).

My running ministy stuff is all LULU! Needless to say it is cute and comfortable and I wear it A LOT. Reppin the Rock Church Runners in lulu completely rules!

Reply

I do wear my race shirts!! I like to sport them around right after I finish the race; especially if it is a long race and I need something to change into for the after-party and the ride home!! :) I don’t wear race shirts that I don’t participate in..that’s just silly!! The best race shirt would have to be an Under Armour or Nike racer-back fitted tech tee with a cutesie race design on the front! Who wouldn’t love one of those?!!?!

Reply

I typically don’t wear them cause they always fit funny, but sometimes they’ll give out the tech shirts and those are great to workout in. Although, I have started to wear my Tough Mudder shirt to the gym just cause it’s fun to see how many people come up and ask questions about the course :) BodyPump tonight! The goal is to hopefully be able to move within 3 days this time instead of the 4 days it took me to recover after the last class!

Reply

Thats the whole point of races is the shirt right? Seriously though my favs are the tech shirt ones. I just did a corporate challenge that my company sponsored and they gave us real nice tech ones short sleeved which is good as the weather is starting to get a little cooler. I also like my long sleeved one i got from my half last year. I do not like though when you indicate during registration that you are a small and they give you one that is big on your spouse ( he’s an xl shirt for normal shirts) those tend to be used as either rags to clean with, or shirts i wear if i am too poor for the salon and am coloring my hair at home.

My sister and I are now wearing race shirts the days we take TKB at the gym. I think it will take close to a year to wear them all. I cannot normally wear them when I run because I roast if I am wearing anything but a tank top. I get way too hot.

Reply

I haven’t raced a whole lot of races…YET!!! But out of the 6 5ks that I have ran, I love the Summer Breeze 5k from June the best! The reason is that they actually made a shirt for the guys and gals. My t-shirt fits like a girl’s t-shirt should. I find that most races offer too baggy of a shirt for girls. Does the half and marathon shirts get better?

Reply

I don’t wear race shirts very much; It seems like the nicer technical shirts always have an uncomfortable neck hole. Maybe I am just too used to working out in tank tops.

Reply

I pretty much love all free clothes b/c my hubby & I both HATE shopping. So race shirts = less shopping, yay! My favorite race tees are the super light, breathable, technical fabric. I’m always a lil sad faced when I get a stupid cotton tee, but again, it’s impossible for me to stay bummed out about free clothes. The cotton ones just turn into pjs! :)

Reply

I love my race shirts! I love my fuschia-pink- technical-made-for-a-woman shirt from Nike Women’s marathon! The 5k cotton shirts, I wear around the house.

Reply

I always wear race shirts lol, there has even been a few that I did not run. A t-shirt to me is a t-shirt!! My workout today was a rest day, I hate them but my body needs them!

Reply

I do wear race shirts! But usually not to work out because all of mine are long sleezed and I feel like I’m suffocating! My most favorite is from a half marathon I did last fall. I think it’s by far the best because it is made from the softest material everrrrrrrrr. It’s pretty big on me but I don’t care, as long as it’s comfy:)
My workout was Insanity Cardio Power & Resistance. I am now soaking wet. :)

Reply

I do actually wear a lot of my race t-shirts, mostly around the house but I do have my favorites and then I have a few that are dry-fit but are made for men so they are super large on me and look ridiculous, I don’t wear those often, although I should probably try to cut/crop them up into something I can wear lol

Reply

I def wear [some of] the race shirts I get… If they’re comfy and fit right, oh yeah! I’ve gotten a few dry-fit recently that I really like! I didn’t make it to the gym today :/ Was at school prepping till 7PM tonight, not the most fun but def necessary! There’s always tomorrow for the gym ;)

Reply

I only wear a few. Usually the gender-specific ones…. I usually give most of them to goodwill.

Reply

I only have a handful of race shirts and so yes, I do wear them. They are all cotton, normal shirts except for one. I have one that is more nylon/polyester and I full plan on running outdoors in it as soon as I get it in the mail =)

Reply

I wear them, ’cause they’re free!

Reply

I have loads of race t shirts but most of them are baggy cotton ones so not good for working out in- they are saved for decorating. But my stockholm marathon is a technical t shirt and fits properly, so I will wear it when out running (I did wear it once, but it has been warm enough for vests instead). So if they were technical then I would wear them.

Reply

I have a couple that I sleep in and a couple I actually wear. The Nike Women’s marathon one is awesome and actually fits properly so I wear it when I need motivation on a run. The baggy cotton ones I request and XL so I can give them to my husband since he loves wearing tshirts.

My favorite shirt is the one I got from the AZ Rock and Roll half marathon in 2010. I have to get race shirts big because they are never long enough and let’s be serious… being covered up when you work out is like a must. (yes even if you have a raging 2 pack like me! ha ha) Its really lightweight too.. BONUS!
It probably has perma-stank (mostly because I run in it a time or two before the fiance hides it in the laundry basket) but i don’t really care. I’ll just run faster : )

I did an awesome 20 min workout from Bodyrock.tv! Check them out, Zuzana is great and you can work up a sweat. I’m not sure my class mates liked that I had sweaty hair when I went to my night class!
