Leave it to Hungryrunnergirl to be thinking about food, as I was looking back through old photos of races I noticed some delicious looking food………

Yes, I am ‘that girl’ that continues running after the finish line to get to the food tables as quickly as possible so that I can stuff my face with 26.2 creamies (Utah’s delicious ice cream popscicles).

My question for you is……what is your favorite post-race food?  What race have you done that had the best post-race food?

-My favorite post-race food was at the Top of Utah.  They had EVERY type of fruit, TONS OF MILK, donuts, Fat-boys and lots of crackers.

Do you eat the post-race food? Do you smuggle some out for your family?

-Pretty sure that me paying 100 bucks should allow me to bring an extra donut out to reward Billster for trying to find me at every mile!

My favorite post race food was a cheeseburger from Carls Jr after the Oklahoma city marathon! Yum!! I also love bagels and chocolate milk! Oh and pancakes too of course :-)

Ugh, I can never eat after long runs, and especially races.

In that picture with you and Billy and the money…I always think Billy’s leg is yours…and then wonder how you go such hairy legs! :D

HAHHAH so funny!

I did the Georgia marathon which was sponsored by Publix (a grocery store). It was amazing! There was food everywhere. Cookies, cupcakes, m&ms, bagels, fruit, ice cream, and much more.

Post race food…mmmm…anything and everything!! Donuts, bananas, granola bars, CEREAL!!! And now that I’m in South africa…tea ;) hehe- never had that after a race until now :)

I’ve only done 1 half marathon and the food was pretty good there but i don’t have much to compare it to since I don’t think 5Ks and 5 milers (the only other races I’ve done) can really compare. It does make me laugh though when people are shoving bagels down their throat after a 5K. It’s only 3 miles! That bagel probably has more calories than you burned!

I may grab an orange or banana, but that is about it. After a race I crave cold water!! I did eat a donut after my 100 mile relay last month. It was delicious too!

And let me follow that up by saying there is nothing wrong with eating the bagel it’s just the mentality that makes me laugh not the actual eating!

The trail 50K I did had awesome food during the race AND after. It was a freezing, rainy day so the chili and chips they had at the end (plus candy, of course) were AMAZING!

PANCAKES!!

Love post race food! After this weekend’s Salinas Valley Half Marathon, Taylor Farms had a bunch of pre-packed veggie + dip lunch snack things so I grabbed a bunch of those…. but veggies in no way compare to the food on the metric centure bike ride I did last year called Strawberry Fields Forever: espresso drinks, pb&j sandwiches, trail mix, make your own sandwich station, goldfish + cheezits, strawberrrrrrrrrrriesssssss and chocolate fodue + whipped cream, plus a full dinner catered by Whole Foods!!!!!!!!!

and apple pie + crepes….

ha ha love that you brought this up. I totally stole an entire loaf of bread after the timp half last weekend. I felt kinda guilty at the moment but man was it good and for heaven sakes I paid $60 for that race. :)

I ALWAYS crave salt after a race in an form. Unfortunetely most races only offer sweet things like fruit, icecrea, and waffles. Lame!

At the St. Louis marathon, they had these ingenious peanut butter and jelly graham cracker sandwiches that were packaged much like an ice cream sandwich – but with pb&j inside – imagine it with me now. Compact, travels well, has peanut butter. Success.

Any idea who made them and where to get them, they were great.

I always grab like 5 extra bananas! We go through bananas like crazy at my house

I tend to like beer after a marathon, but that’s not so common in Utah! I think after St. George, I liked the bomb pops the most. But after Boston, I went straight for Gatorade, then beer. I don’t smuggle food out b/c I’ve been a back-of-the-pack runner before and it sucks to have it all gone when you finish. That’s another thing I don’t like about races where they have some short distance with the marathon. Like if you run a marathon, even if you run it in 3 hours, when you get there, all the half people have scooped up the food!

I am totally running the Top of Utah Marathon this year and now I can’t wait for the post-race food choices! YUM!!

does he really find you at every mile!? with as fast as you run, that’s a race in itself! What a great hubs! My boyfriend found me at about 4 places along my marathon. It was so encouraging!
I usually eat some fruit and steal some for later (nope I don’t even give it to my fam!) and maybe a bagel. Then we go out to eat for a celebration meal a little while later!

This is funny! Yes, I’m guilty of smuggling race food to my kids and family! I just give the volunteers a puppy dog face…”hey, I just ran 26.2 mi. you’d be famished too!!” I grab double, triple of everything!! But, after I disperse all of the goodies I forget to save one for me!! :)

Best post race food…probably Palos Verdes marathon. I especially appreciated the hot coffee afterwards because it was pretty chilly ! :)

I’m going to run a marathon in Utah so, I can smuggle those creamies!!

I usually just go for the water… I have a hard time eating after I run. I’m not the fastest so sometimes I don’t have much choice because the food’s already gone anyhow.

Reply

I love bagels and bananas but the last race I ran had full size bags of sour patch kids and swedish berries!!! YUM! Probably my favourite! I definitely smuggled some :)

I always eat one of the bananas after a race because it’s about the ONLY thing I want to eat. However, after my last race, my hubby took me out to eat Italian. You bet I indulged after running all of those miles :D

One of the local running stores by me has a race organization attached to it. They have the best races and the best food. Pancakes and waffles. Pizza and beer. Chocolate and more chocolate (Hot Chocolate 5k/15k… best idea ever). I don’t smuggle any out, but I definitely go back for seconds if allowed.

Reply

I eat as much I can that they offer but I loved having Udi’s Gluten Free chocolate chip cookies for post race!!!

I’ve never done a race with donuts before, that’s an epic win!!!

My tummy doesn’t like to eat right when I’m done running, so I’m usually content to wait and get me some Panera bagels and cream cheese and smoothies afterward. But I used to run the Richmond Half Marathon in Virginia every November, and they had muffins this year! I grabbed about ten and ate them in the car/back at the hotel once my stomach had calmed down.

It wasn’t anything fancy, but what I enjoyed the most after a run was a plain, turkey lunchmeat on a white hamburger bun. They served them up at the Boilermaker this July. I ran the 15k and devoured three of them.

I usually hate eating after a race. I’ll guzzle water to the point of upset stomach and then not want to eat for like an hour. After Sunday’s race, though, they had watermelon (which I don’t actually like), but it was the most delicious thing I’d ever eaten. Go figure.

I do not eat the post race food as I usually feel like vomiting after a race haha. Usually I’ll take stuff with me though for an hour or so later when I feel like eating it… I’ve never had my bag searched on my way out thankfully!!

I discovered this past weekend after a race that I LOVE chocolate milk after racing. Definitely my new fav!!!

Heck yes I smuggle food! The worst part is I have to smuggle 2 of everything so that my kids don’t fight over who gets what. I look like a SUPER PIGGY and I LOVE IT! Lol!

I love chocolate milk post race- but only after I drink ice cold water or gatorade. I am weird like that :)
