WE HAVE BESS TODAY….WAHOO!!! This girl knows what she is talking about when it comes to fitness and health! You will love her blog as she blogs about her workouts, eats, coolest dog ever, great recipes, life and fashion!!

—————————————————————————–

Hey Hey Hungry Runner Girl readers!! My name is Bess and I blog at Bess Be Fit.  I am SO EXCITED to be guest posting for Janae today…I check her blog multiple times a day and love it!  As we all know she is just so cute and funny and inspiring!  She also makes me crave Froyo 24/7.  It’s cool though.  (Janae speaking, “I secretly own Yogurtland and I am using subliminal messaging through the blog to make you go there more often)

Today I just want to touch on EXERCISE.  I know a lot of people in the blog world are runners or yogis.  Lots do Body Pump (I want to try so bad!).  All of those are amazing ways to get in your exercise and stay healthy and in shape.

An important aspect of exercise, for me at least, is to keep it fun.  I personally get bored easily with the same routine over and over.  I go through phases where I’m totally into running or I’m totally not.  I also don’t believe that every day you exercise it has to be super intense…it doesn’t.  Your body doesn’t need super intense exercise every day to get into good shape.  In fact, it can hinder your progress if you don’t give your body proper rest.  After 4 years of getting beat up in college soccer, I know how to listen to my body and give it a rest when it needs it!

Rest is also so important because it allows your body not only to recuperate but also for the muscles you work to GROW!  After a rest day you can feel ready to get back into your workouts full force instead of slacking if you are tired or burnt out.  Sometimes I even take 2 or 3 rest days if my body needs it.  I like to do “active rest” where I will just go on walks with my dog, Maverick.  That way I am still moving but not putting my body through strenuous exercise.  I have a couple of lingering/nagging injuries from soccer so I don’t want to make them any worse!  This is the best way to manage them.  It’s about finding what is best for YOUR body and I know I LOVE going on walks and its good to get out and move around.  Maverick likes it too!

IMG 1760 I encourage you to find new ways to exercise if you are feeling like you are in a rut or bored.  Use a different exercise machine at the gym or do interval workouts on a cardio machine to keep it interesting.  If you don’t have access to a gym or don’t feel like going, there are many different websites that have workouts you can watch and follow along.  I personally like the Tone It Up workouts (www.toneitup.com) because the workouts are fun and the girls are super motivating.  Also, for those people who have OnDemand on their TV’s, there is an exercise channel with tons of exercise videos ready that you can use.  I also LOVE my Nike Training Club app on my iPhone.  It is a free application and has so many challenging workouts.  You can also pick up one of your favorite magazines (Shape, Oxygen, Women’s Health, etc) and do any of the workouts that they put in there or on their websites.

Go out and move!  Find fun things to do that will keep your attention and will motivate you to continue to exercise and stay healthy.  Because, after all, that’s what its all about…being HEALTHY and HAPPY!

I’m off for a bike ride!!!

What is your favorite place to find new exercises to do?  Websites/Magazines/DVDs??

Now that I’m living here in Trinidad – I can’t just try out all the hottest new stuff like I could in Houston. I have been trying out a bunch of video’s though and am currently loving physique 57 – holey moley – a killer leg/butt workout for sure!
Heading over to check out Bess Be Fit now…

I have to keep things interesting because I get really bored, really quickly. I like interval training and circuits because they totally kick your butt and keep you on your toes the whole time!

I just finished the Insanity workouts for 60 days and I loved them! They are like bootcamps but they are intense and for the first month not too long. For me, working out in my house was so convenient. I know some people can’t get it done in their own house though.

BESS, why are we not already friends? I’m changing that now. We both have black labs. It’s meant to be. BFFs.

So happy for this guest post because now I know about Tone It Up, I feel like I must have been living under a rock to not know about it.

Recently I’ve been doing Jackie Warner’s Xtreme time saving workout. It’s 30 minutes of strength and cardio and it feels awesome. If I want to switch it up I’ll do Jillian Michaels 30 day shred.

Great post! I definitely needed the reminder that rest days okay and that our bodies actually benefit from them. I have a hard time taking rest days and it is good to be reminded of there importance.

I definetly get bored with the same old workouts too so I try to change up my lifting every week. Keeps things interesting :D

I just discussed rest days on my blog! I’ve never liked taking rest days because I saw them as a step back in training, but now I embrace them. They really do recharge my body and I get better workouts because of them.

Rest days are definitely important!! I often have “scheduled” rest days, but sometimes I change my mind and make unscheduled days my rest days because it’s obviously my body needs it. Great post! :)
