Celebration Lunch

I think the man in this photo explains how most people look at me.  His first hint that I was a psycho occurred when I ran over to the salsa bar yelling at everyone to get out of my way, it was an emergencky that I fill up my 18 cups of salsa as soon as possible.

Same outfit as yesterday, all that changed is the color of shirt, same make-up as yesterday too….that’s awkward.

This afternoon we picked my BIL up from taking the MCAT……ahhhhh…….and took him to my favorite restaurant to celebrate.  Wow, that sounds very selfish of me, good thing everyone else loves Baja Fresh too.

Just in case you didn’t know, this is the perfect chip to salsa ratio.

IMG 8166

And this is the perfect lettuce to salsa ratio………1:4.

IMG 8168

I may or may not currently be eating directly from yesterday’s beauty…….

IMG 8162

I keep telling myself it is okay that I am eating dessert after every meal because I am on vacation……the problem lies in the fact that this has been a 3 month vacation and I will soon be saying, “I need dessert after every meal in order to handle teaching high school kids all day.”

——————————————————————————

Random question: We were talking about standardized testing at lunch…..Were you a good test taker?  Did you do better with grades in school or standardized tests?

-I was an AWFUL test taker….um, BIlly got 11 points higher than me on the ACT but I did have really good grades and that is how I got into college, not my test scores!

When you are on vacation do you indluge more?

-I always indulge a lot which you know if you have even just read my blog for a day but it get’s a little out of control while on ‘vacation.’

What are your crazy wild Friday night plans…..sorry, I always ask this but I like to know what my bff’s are up to this weekend:)

I was/am a horrible test taker. I’ve come to realize that I just am. I don’t fight it anymore and I say A LOT of prayers prior…and during testing.

Yes to the second question.

We’re an old married couple and don’t have crazy Friday nights :P

Creeper alert:

I need to stop reading your blog before I go to bed. For some reason, you are in my dreams!!

Like I said, creeper alert. At least we are of the same faith, so perhaps it’s not THAT creepy.

Have a fun Friday!

Reply

NOT A CREEPER ALERT….it just means we are good friends and that is AWESOME!!!!

Reply

Thanks for not making me feel like a creeper. I appreciate that. That salad is making me hungry and the salsa is making me miss some TexMex (born and raised southern Texan).

I have an exciting night of not a gosh darn thing planned! I may watch some TV I may read, I haven’t decided and that mystery is what makes it so exciting!!!

I hate standardized tests for many reasons but mainly because they really aren’t that helpful! I was always good at them though! Hopefully your BIL did well and gets into his first choice!

I would totally need dessert to deal with teenagers all day everyday! God Bless YOU!!!!

Reply

I was always one of those lucky people who tested well, but I know plenty of people WAY smarter than me who are 100 times more intelligent than I am!
I definitely indulge a little every day, but vacations are something else. I eat absolutely everything I can get my hands on!
Friday night party plans—um, does staying home and watching TV count as a party? We have a houseguest here for a week so we might pretend we’re cool and stay up until 11 to show him how exciting it is to be married, haha!

That guy totally looks like he’s wearing black lipstick.

i 100% agree with you on your salsa ratios. I always have to ask for 5 bowls for myself at restaurants and the others get to share their one measly bowl.

My school was really good at teaching test taking strategies so my test taking is better than my grades.

Praying for you BIL, I know that waiting for results is so tough! Congrats that he took it though!

Reply

I actually have plans tonight! It’s my friend’s birthday and she invited a TON of people over for a bbq. Yay!

Reply

so bad at standardized test taking! when i took the hs placement test (for people going to a catholic school), I was placed in pre-pre-algebra. I then took a free answer math test and was put in geometry. bubbles + lauren = not so great.

tonight i’m going to get fro yo and then pass out…. such a tiring week!!!!!!

Reply

I was not a good standardized test taker but once I graduated and was working on my teaching credential I figured out how to take standardized tests…or just cared slightly more about them. I indulge an awful lot on ice cream and froyo on vacation but its ok because my running shoes always come with me and I run more on vacation. Friday night plans- Costco because I am exciting like that…and because my little boys need food in bulk and consume massive quantities considering they are 30 and 50lbs each.

I LOVE Baja!!

Reply

Try Alderbertos too, so good!!

I’m a pretty good test taker. Not as good with standardized tests though!

I ALWAYS indulge on vacations-I mean its VACATION!!! The saddest thing to me was when I was in the Bahamas in the beginning of summer at an ALL INCLUSIVE resort, meaning every nibble of food was totally free! and they a freaking awesome buffet for every meal. yes there were healthy options like fruit and salad, which i did eat, BUT i also indulged in the pizza, pasta, ice cream, etc. However, I saw at least 2-3 girls every morning eating nothing but yogurt and fruit all day. Cmon people!

My Friday night plans involve figuring put how to use my new camelbak so I don’t die of dehydration on my run tommorow. Turns out training for a marathon in August is hot!!

I am going to Vegas os Monday for the first time and I will definitely be indulging while I’m there! (even though it’s a work trip not a vacation)

Reply

AHHHH Have an amazing time in Vegas…my favorite. Hopefully you get lots of play time while your there:) Have so so much fun on your long run and let me know how the camel bak goes!

Reply

I did pretty well on tests, but I had much better grades in school than my tests showed. The main problem was that I read at a slower pace (if I read fast I skip stuff) on standardized tests, so sometimes those reading sections would take me FOREVER!

Yes to indulging on vacation!

It’s Daniel’s birthday weekend (YAY!!!) so I told him we would do whatever he wanted. I’m assuming we end up eating out somewhere and maybe going out fishing in the boat tomorrow.

Reply

AHHHHHHH Tell Daniel happy happy birthday for me:) I have never been fishing….I need to come with you one day!

Reply

He said thank you! You must come to TN and I will take you fishing (and hunting if you would like) – and we will go to the gym, eat froyo and lots of other good foods, and be best friends forever. Yes – I’m five, and I’m okay with it. :)

Reply

I always got grade grades, but my standardized test scores were not as high as I would have liked. The SATs were OK, but the GRE was horrible! Yuck!!

Big Friday night plans: cooked dinner for my husband, now he’s at the gym and I’m reading blogs. Later, I may convince him to watch “Say yes to the dress” with me haha! We’re so exciting! ;)

But we also have to get up early for our 9 mile run, so I’ll use that as our excuse!

Reply

I was a good test taker in school, but the standardize tests? OH MY! I also got into college based on my grades alone. Thank the lord! Once in college I was a jornalism major so a whole lot of writing and not a lot of tests! YES! Hahaha!

I am headed to the mall after work to pick up a baby shower gift. FUN! Then off to dinner and chillaxin the rest of the night!!

Reply

I love your salsa ratios – looks like mine! :)

I was a really good standardized test taker – I always did really well!

Reply

mmm Baja!!!

I am all about MAJOR salsa to one chip. Perfect ratio, so I agree!!

I was good at standardized tests….no idea why, though! Hah. Congrats to Danny for being DONE! Woot. I bet Shelly is happy :)

Reply

Thanks!! I’m so glad that he’s done! He just seems SO much happier and relaxed. Now we get to PLAY! :)

Reply

Damn you, now I want Mexican…

Reply

BAHAHAH GO GET SOME!!! I could mail you some if you want!

Reply

Yummm. Salsa is so good. And the fact that it’s considered a free condiment at most places is AWESOME. My friday night plans are heading to froyo and watching 30 rock until I pass out around ehhh 9pm, ha.

Reply

hahaa! you crack me up girl!! I met up with a fellow blogger today and then went to the beach to fly a kite with the man. I’m thinking I might strt my wedding planning this weekend….eek!!!

My Friday night plans are: watch the Jersey Shore marathon on MTV!! :)

My Friday night plans include sitting on the couch thinking about the snickers I’m going to consume before my 14 mile run in the morning…I want to kiss Reese’s for giving that piece of advice earlier in the week.

Also (as a teacher), don’t even get me started on standardized test!!! Ugh! In Florida they are going to start basing teacher’s pay on the results of their student’s standardized tests, and I’m sick about it. Because even though we are supposed to differentiate instruction, I’m only a good teacher if ALL my students score awesomely on a standardized test…right.

Happy weekend to you, Janae!

Reply

HAHAHA….I totally started freaking out about standardized testing when I was talking to my family…I get very angry about the subject!!!
GOOD LUCK ON YOUR RUN TOMORROW, you are going to rock it!

Reply

Packing and cleaning tonight…yay?

Reply

I totally indulge on vacation!!

I was a good test taker for the most part! BUT, I am not a big fan of standardized testing in public education, BLEH!

Reply

My Friday night has consisted of mac and cheese, reading magazines, ironing clothes, and blogging. I know. I am so hardcore. But tomorrow we’re having our engagement party! :D So it’s OK that I lay low tonight.

I totally indulge on vacation. Vacation means eating whatever the heck I want. Booyah!

Reply

I have CRAAAZZYY Friday night plans. They consist of watching Say Yes to the Dress with my mom. haha! I had my first wedding dress fitting today, followed by a three hour long hair appointment (just to highlight it!!), so now I plan on not moving from the couch until bedtime. I hope you have a great Friday night!!

Reply

AHHHH how did your dress look?!?! That is so exciting!! I LOVE THAT SHOW!

Reply

It looked good! They had to do some work on adjusting the little bolero thing, but other than that we just took 30 minutes choosing a veil and jewelry and such. I felt like a little kid playing dress up…in the best way. haha

Reply

SO SO FUN!!! You’ll have to send me a picture of you all done up:)

Reply

Haha I love the salsa to lettuce ratio! I totally agree.

My friday night plans… I’m going downtown and lookin for trouble ;)

Reply

My favorite part of the first picture is the fact that you’ve clearly trained the MIL well… She knows to make the “happy thumbs up of foodie approval” in the face of all that wonderful salsa!! :)

I was a pretty good test taker – probably could have been better if I actually studied for them, however!

I try not to go completely nuts on vacation, but more often than not, I fall into the “Wow, the food here is so AMAZING that I have to try everything!” trap… Ah, well. That’s what post-vacation guilt is for!

Tonight is all about resting from a busy (and sleep-deprived) week so I can have a good long run tomorrow morning!

Reply

What a great compliment about my training my MIL:) I hope you had a restful night and good luck on your LONG RUN WAHOOOO!!

Reply

The night was less restful than I was hoping for (stupid insomnia!) but strangely enough, I had an awesome run anyway!! This was my first time at 8 (I’m training for my first half marathon) so at this point, every mileage increase feels like such a BIG, crazy, and exciting thing! Thanks for the happy thoughts! :)

Reply

I was a pretty good test taker, but definitely did way better on grades. My parents made me take a SAT prep course which did help (I improved 150 points) but then I ended up going to a college that didn’t require SAT’s, go figure. I submitted them anyway since I was so proud of my score ;)

Reply

I stink at taking tests! My friday night plans consisted of catching up on harry potter movies with my lil’ sis :)

Reply

I suck at tests. Just the idea of tests gives me heart palpitations.

I went to a Zumba class, cleaned the house and made fish tacos! Now I’m going to bed early because I’m driving to Austin for a writing conference–with a hurricane on the way! Priorities! :)

Reply

It all depends on the subject I’m getting tested on. If it’s something I really enjoy and have learned a lot about, I ace it. But, if its on all the boring topics that are usually covered in school, I have to study really hard to get a pretty good grade. All depends on how the teacher is too- whether they want to make you fail or if they’re feelin good that day. haha.

My friday night plans? Talking to my besties and catching up on blogs :D

Reply

I’m an average test taker. We took the SATs instead of the ACT.

vacation: I do indulge. But, if indulge too much, I get sick so I try to keep in to a minimum. But actually, I indulge a little when I’m not on vaca too ;)

Reply

I’m going to bed right now..getting married in the morning!!! Have a great Saturday!

AHHHH CONGRATULATIONS!! That is so so exciting!! EMAIL ME A PHOTO!!! PRETTY PLEASE!

I eat dessert after every meal EVERY DAY OF MY LIFE. Salty 1st, sweet later. Or sometimes sweet and then salty and then sweet. Regardless, DESSERT, all the time.

Reply

OH GOOD……I am not alone!!

Reply

I hate standardized tests. I did better on my ACT than my SAT that much I can remember. I also had to take the FCAT while in high school and had to pass in order to graduate. (This is in Florida).

My husband and I are going to Vegas next week. We haven’t been, so we are excited. I am a fan of dessert after every meal. I do that when we go on cruises. They say you can gain 7 lbs on a week long cruise…I believe it.

I will probably lay low tonight, and no long run this weekend because I hurt my knee. Not sure what is going on. I have not been running all week, only swimming and biking. I did some yoga and got a massage, but the only thing that seems to help is ice. I am frustrated because I am suppose to start training for my first marathon in a little over a week. I made a doc apt, so I just hope it’s nothing major. AHHH!!

Reply

Um, I can vouch for the 7 lb cruise thing being 100% true!!! Have an amazing time in Vegas! I LOVE VEGAS!!! Bummer about knee….praying that it gets better ASAP!

I was a super test-taker. It’s pretty sad that nothing in real life is multiple choice or available in Scantron format.

In the past, I’ve indulged way more than I normally would in real life. I’m hoping I don’t choose to go that way next month on vacation… especially because real life has included more indulging than normal recently, and I want to feel healthier again soon.

And my crazy wild Friday night plans included watching Jeopardy at my parents’ house, eating too many cookies, and cozying up with old Everwood DVDs and reading blogs.

Reply

I always order a kids naked chicken burrito at Qdoba…then ask them to put it in a large bowl (so I can mix it without making a mess), then add 3 scoops of their mango salsa, a scoop of corn salsa, and “lots and lots of lettuce”. AKA – a meal bigger than the full size version, half the price, and I get a natural apple sauce cup and a pop!

Friday night = babystting. But hey, $12/hr to watch mindless tv and eat their snacks? Yes please!

Reply

You are brilliant….I have a lot to learn from you on how to properly eat out!

Reply

All in good time young Jedi, all in good time…

I am awesome at standardized tests (at least when I was in school I was). My grades were decent but my ACT got me into my school of choice.
I always indulge on vacation. But then again I always find a reason to indulge. This week we’re celebrating shark week (shark cupcakes, gummy sharks, and shark t-shirts/PJ’s – Geek much?)
Sitting in a hotel by myself getting ready to pick up my daughter and 5 of her friends from EFY in San Antonio. I ordered dinner from the bar at TGIFridays and felt like the biggest loser.

Reply

Maybe that’s just his picture face. He’s just so excited that he’s going to be on the coolest website ever. I bet he went home and blogged about it.

I get super bad test anxiety, especially when iy comes to standardized tests!!!!! I definitely indulge more on vacation. A girls gotta live a little!!

Reply

janae. :) i love you & you’re my hero.

Reply

I am a lawyer so I am a good test taker…it’s basically a requirement to survive the bar exam!

I generally indulge a lot on vacation, but right now we are in the middle of a 3 week road trip so I am trying not to. We have a long way to go and over indulging always makes my digestive system go haywire. It’s ok for a few days, but not for weeks at a time. We’re eating breakfast and lunch from our hotel rooms (the usual cereal, sandwiches, fruit and veggies) and going out for indulgent dinners – check out the StripSteak dinner in Vegas. They poach the steaks in butter BEFORE grilling them. YUM.

Wild and crazy plans? Uuuuh, we made it to Pocatello ID tonight. We’re crashing early so we can get in a long run tomorrow morning before we make the drive to Montana….woohoo for five days of hiking, rafting, ziplining and family time!

Reply

the thing with desserts is that i feel as a runner/exerciser we earn our right to eat what we please! the whole ‘if the engine is hot it’ll burn’ sort of thing!! so long live lifting that spoon/fork full of sweet treats!! :)

PS-i dunno if u’ve been following, but i’ve been doing a little ongoing froyo running fairy tale with a few of my fav bloggers as characters, and i just posted that last part tonight. :P but part II has a toonicized HRG if u’re interested. :)

Reply

girl, I eat dessert after every meal and snack, all day every day :) And I was not so bueno on tests at all, but have always got really good grade… testing makes me SO nervous! ummm tonight I had a wild evening, too much whip cream on frozen pb bananas… I’m a wild child!

Reply

I’m actually an excellent standardized test taker, but its because I go crazy ocd before hand and can’t stop studying! It’s obnoxious. My entire life used to get consumed with books before a big exam. The idea of “failing” or not doing awesome used to scare the crap out of me. Now that I don’t have any tests to take (being 26 with no ambitions of grad school just yet), I realize it was pretty dumb. Honestly, all that stress for…? I know people who BOMBED the SATs and are lawyers/doctors/hilariously cool cats now. Standardized testing, schmesting!

p.s. tell Baja Fresh to come to Connecticut! Thanks :)

Reply

I get wicked nervous before a test but then end up doing pretty well!

Vacation indulgences are a must, whatever, I eat healthy enough all the other times! Just like summer is made for consuming mass quantities of beer and ice cream!

Last night I went out with one of my girlfriends to a place called Mew’s Tavern – they have 69 microbrews on tap! You can get four 7 oz beers all at the same time! It’s awesome!

Reply

did everyone take the mcat yesterday? On of my good friends took it too! Good luck to your BIL!!

I was a good test taker other than the analogies on the SATs. Those suckers killed me.

Reply

I love me some Baja Fresh–virtual lunch right now! I used to work with students specifically on standardized tests and there are tricks, but they still get me! I worked my bum off for good grades!!

Good luck to your BIL on the MCAT. sending smarty pants vibes!

oh i DEF indulge more on vacay! shooooooooot! you only get vacay so often- gota go big or go home! I would loveeee to try baja fresh- yumm! and you will DOMINATE that test, just said a prayer for you!
