Shoes, shoes, shoes.

Billy likes to tease (aka try to tell me something I need to work on in a nice way) me about how many workout shoes I have.  I like to reply by saying that they are absolutely necessary and that without them I would probably sit on the couch half the day watching tween television shows while eating frozen (yes, put them in the freezer and you can thank me later) swedish fish.

He then replies that I already do that but he will admit that I do get good use out of the ridiculous amounts of running/workout shoes that I have.

I guess that means I can get a pair of saucony’s that I have had my eye on.

As I am trying to really make sure that I get back into running with the CORRECT form I am making sure that I am using shoes that help me to achieve this.

The current rotation this week include…….

My Brooks Launch (zero-drop) I have been using for my longer runs (okay, 5 miles).

The Nike Free’s have been my go-to lifting and cross-training shoe.

IMG 5802

And my New Balance Minimus Shoes have been used for my shorter runs (3 miles or less). I absolutely adore these shoes but I want to slowly build up my mileage in them and strengthen my feet and ankles before going full out ya know?

IMG 5962

And for all the swimming I do…….Naked feet baby.  I will spare you the picture…it ain’t pretty.

Yes, i’m obsessed. I have a pair of Brooks Adrenaline GTS 11 that I use for running but I have my eyes set on a pair of Mizuno’s I WILL be getting tomorrow! (Shh, don’t tell my husband!)
I use Nike Free’s for lifting & crosstraining.

I adore my Asics Gel Kayano 17s. I over-pronate and have a mutant extra bone (it’s small) in one of my ankles that can swell up at 10+ miles, but these shoes keep me going.

Reply

I just stick to one pair: Brooks Adrenaline 11s. I’m thinking I should get some minimalist sneakers for wandering around town, but then I’d have to stop wearing my Toms.

Reply

Hey! I did the tricep workout you posted the other day- uhmmmmmm- OW! That hurt (in a good way) and really worked my triceps! Thanks for the new ideas- it was nice to do something new in my workout!

:)

If ONLY I had enough shoes to rotate! I’m currently wearing Brooks Ghost 3, but I really want to get a new pair of trainers and one minimalist shoe. Not sure which ones though.

Reply

For marathon training I stuck to Mizuno Wave Rider 14’s, but now that I am done with that and doing shorter distances this summer and more cross training I want a pair of Nike Free’s too! Have to first convince the hubby! I want to bright pink ones with yellow laces.

Reply

I just got the new Merrell Pace Gloves and I looooooooooooove them! I’ve been using them for running and the gym and I don’t think I’ll ever go back!!

Reply

I have one pair of black and green Nike’s that I bought in 2008. In 2009 I went to Lady Footlocker and bought every single pair they had (on clearance!)

It’s now 2011 and I’m on my last pair! I’ve run out 5 identical pairs of shoes and I’m super nervous to go buy a different style (or even brand?)

They just MUST be black and green. Some weird running mojo thing…

Reply

I just got a pair of Brooks Defyance 4’s. (Replaced a pair of Defyance 3’s) Love them!
I also have some Champion’s that are similar to the Nike Free’s for Zumba & a generic pair of Reeboks for casual wear.

Reply

Yes, I have tons of running shoes. I always replace them before they need it and always think I could do better with a different style shoe. I’d like to go to a Road Runner store and get on one of their treadmills with the cameras on your feet!

Reply

i love the rotation! i have the same. You should see my husbands closet. Acutally, its the whole garage! full of kswiss running shoes. Now if only half of those were mine, haha!!

Reply

Ah, I’ve been using Mizuno wave riders for years and have gone through three series but they’ve been bothering my ankles so i’m thinking of switching over to something else. and i can’t believe you use flats for shorter runs! well, i guess it’s kinda like barefoot running eh?

Reply

Ok, I love your closet full of workout shoes. I’ve been blog stalking for a couple weeks now, but I promise I’m not that kind of stalker. Once I’m done having our third child, I can’t wait to get back to running. Just thought I would finally introduce myself.

Reply

AHHH I AM SO GLAD YOU SAID HI!!! Girl, you are GORGEOUS!!! THIRD CHILD, that is so exciting and I am so excited for you to get back into running!

Reply

I’m mainly a Brooks girl. But, it wasnt always this way. My first 3 pairs were Nike Vomeros. But, when I went to get a new pair I was drawn to the Brooks Glycerin and Brooks has had my heart ever since. <3 Currently I run in Brooks Ghost, but for shorter, fun runs I run in my Vibrams Bikila.

Reply

I love my Newton Distancia S for running but need a pair of cross training shoes. I’m contemplating some Nike Free’s but am seriouisly crushing on some K Swiss trainers.

Reply

I am absolutely obsessed! I have 4 pairs sitting in boxes waiting for their turn to be used. I have Brooks Adrenalines for shorter runs and Brooks Infinities for longer runs. I have 2 of each under my bed! I usually watch the prices on Amazon and when the price drops I order a bunch!

Reply

I have shoes similar to your new balances.. I tried yours on actually (not your actual shoes) and chose a pair of Merrells instead and I LOVE them. I wear them to run in the sand!

Reply

I love my Mizunos for running and my adidas for strength! I’ve had my eyes on a pair of Nike frees though! :)

Reply

I would have tons more shoes if the budget allowed! I use my Nike Air Pegasus for lifting, and I’m loving my NB 101’s right now. I love my Kinvara’s but I think they are a 1/2 size too big.

Reply

I just wear my Brooks running shoes for all workouts here…but that’s mainly because my closet space is limited. When I’m home, I rotate the Brooks for running, along with tennis shoes for actually playing tennis, and a couple of other pairs of shoes (Nike and Adidas) for general non-running workouts.

Totally get your obsession!

Reply

I am loyal to my Saucony ProGrid Omni 9’s. I even watch Zappos for when they go on sale so I can have a backup pair when my current ones get old. The only thing I switch up is the color!

Reply

I just stick to my one pair of Asics for everything. Just found out they discontinued them and I’m afraid to get the new version!

Reply

My new fav running shoes are the neon yellow racing flats that I wore in the 5k out in New Mexico!
Here’s my post where I have photos of me wearing them, they’re so fun:

I don’t buy a lot of shoes, but you would never know looking in my closet, because I never get rid of shoes. I still have my old basketball shoes from when I was in high school!

Reply

I am totally addicted to tennis shoes…I’ve done a post on them as well : )

Reply

I’m pretty loyal to my Nike Triax.

I so want to try some minimalist shoes, but I’m terrified! Have you always run in more minimal shoes, or did you transition?

I’m currently running in Brooks Adrenaline GTS 11… don’t care for them as much as the 10s though.

Reply

ooh love the shoes!! :) I’ve been pounding a pair of pink Nikes since the end of October and I desperately need to replace them! there’s a super sweet running store in philadelphia that analyzes your stride and works w/ you to pick you out the best shoe, i’m dying to get it done, but since i’m in college i gotta let some of that summer job money pile up first ;)

Reply

I’m still obsessed with your black & purple nikes…my favorite colors :)
& my favorite shoes are actually Asics. I was always a New Balance girl..and still am, but I have branched out a bit & actually really like the asics.

Reply

I have vibram 5 fingers, new balance 790s (lightweight trail shoe), and a pair of Mizuno elixir (lightweight stability).

THose brooks look pretty nice! I’ve never run in Brooks. They aren’t “zero drop” though… wasn’t sure if you were just exaggerating! The drop is 10mm or so…

I always want more running shoes but hubby just rolls his eyes. YEAH sure that’s what you need, more running shoes… I also have several old pairs I don’t wear any more… maybe I should throw out so it no longer looks like I have lots of running shoes….

Reply

Ohh, girl, I’m the same way with running/workout shoes! I buy way more running shoes than high heels!! I run in Brooks Ardrenaline GTS 11’s and they are BY FAR my favorite ones I have EVER had. I found them on Zappos in an AWESOME Blue/Purple neon colors and no one ever has them! they are prettyyy sweet. Check ’em out. PS-I think I’ve sent you a comment before so not sure if it went thru…I’ve been following your blog for a while now. My husbands name is Billy too :)

Reply

I am so addicted to running shoes and I can justify every pair. My husband just shakes his head. My Newtons for short distances, Brooks Ghosts for mid to long and then Mizuno’s for my long runs, not to mention all of the other floaters that I have laying around.

Reply

I’m currently loving my Saucony Kinvaras. They are about a 3mm drop. I switched from Asics Gel Cumulus which was about 11mm. It took me a few runs to adjust, but now I am so happy I made the switch. I want to get the Saucony Hattoris next, which are a zero drop. I just have to justify buying another pair of shoes to the hubs. ; )

I LOVE my New Balance WT-101 shoes. They are actually trail shoes, but they are light and comfy and addictive for road running. I feel like I’m wearing nothing when they’re on. =) I bought two pairs so when one wears out I don’t have to wait for running bliss.

Forgive my late comment. I have 12 hours off and I already painted my nails and went to a body pump (type) class. Maybe I’ll take a nap. Anyway, I LOVE my running shoes! I started running in my 40’s and have been through SO many injuries that when I finally found a shoe that I loved and loved me back then I had to stay with it. I run in the Saucony Mirage. I ordered last years model and just received 2 sets of shoes. I love these shoes so much that I ordered a regular size for everyday and a size up for running. I also have a hard time giving up shoes. Especially if they are newer but I just didn’t end up liking them. If you looked in my closet you would wonder how I know which shoe is for what activity. But I know….and I keep shopping!
