No Gym=No Problem

I know that you have been looking forward to sweaty self portraits all day long.  My helmet size=XXL, I know you think I am kidding but I am not, ginormous heads run in my family.

As many of you know, I absolutely LOVE THE GYM.

Examples include:

-Marathon on a gym treadmill.

-Gym pool is the only time I shower each week.

-Elliptical sessions that I catch up on all of my blog reading

-Pump classes and weight training bring me a little bit too much joy.

Well, figuring I am taking another break from running due to shin splints (just a few days) I was left gymless and runningless this morning.

What’s a girl to do…….GET CREATIVE!! I am REALIZING that exercise doesn’t JUST mean running and getting muscles doesn’t mean you have to go to the gym.

WHAT DID I DO THIS MORNING……I downloaded a workout online from Women’s Health that required NO equipment and got to work outside on the porch. Bet you didn’t know I could jump and get about 2 inches off of the ground.

IMG 7163

I followed up with a YOGA download.  Just picture doing yoga on the front deck with fresh mountain air and birds chirping everywhere around you, you can punch me now.  You can read more about the workout I downloaded HERE.

Another thing I realized…there are SO MANY forms of exercise.  I wanted to get a small workout in before mountain biking because I thought it was going to be a 60 beats per minute kind of activity…….boy, was I wrong…IT KICKED MY TRASH.

Prepare for photo overload.

Don’t pretend like you don’t suck in when you get your pictures taken and all of your organs travel up to your face to make it extra round.

IMG 0429

I know my woman parts are growing…I am not preggo….it’s just what happens when you are on high estrogen along with a high ice cream diet.

IMG 0440

Good thing my running capri’s have a little pocket…..heaven forbid I go longer than 12 minutes without reapplication of the good stuff.  Don’t worry that man told me I was extra cool for taking pictures of my own back.

IMG 0427

Note to self: Remember to change out of your Tom’s into real workout shoes before you go mountain biking.

IMG 0446

See…it pooped me OUT!!

IMG 0447

IMG 0454

and then this happened…..

IMG 0455

So, this happened……  Sobe Pina Colada!?! Don’t mind if I do!

IMG 0457

Grandpa White works up at Big Bear and hooked us up with the tickets and food!! THANK YOU GRANDPA!!!

When you don’t have a gym and running isn’t an option what are your FAVORITE ways to break a sweat!?!?!

If you could only choose ONE thing to take with you on a day long activity what would it be (not including food)!

-SOME FORM OF CHAPSTICK/LIPGLOSS and lotion comes in a close second….I cannot STAND having dry skin.

What are you having/did you already have for DINNER tonight?  Yes, I am already thinking about it and need some IDEAS!!!

If we lived closer together you could have gone biking where I hiked today. The mountain bike trails were fierce!!

I’m having BBQ: Veggie burger, corn, potatoes. YUM!!!

Reply

You look SO GREAT! And this looks like so much fun. I’m so happy the weather is nice enough FINALLY to go outside! Biking is something I would love to pick up!

Oh yeah, i forgot the reason I was posting…Brian and I cancelled our gym memberships while in between college newlywed life and adult without work life. I need to find some sort of no equipment workout! I only run because I feel like the “at home” things I’ve tried don’t work too well. Did you feel like they made a difference at all??

ASHTON!!! GIRL, I MISS YOU SO SO MUCH!!! AHHHH when can we meet up with you in Vegas!?!? Oh girl….I understand the whole no mula for extra expenses thing (ps remember how much money we spent aka wasted in Hawaii:). I TOTALLY recommend trying at home workout and if you want I have LOTS of extra DVD’s I could send you!!

I NEED lotion and chapstick, also! and a hair tie, obv.

Tonight I am making black bean turkey chili and an arugula, strawberry sunflower seed, cheese salad with cornchips from Trader Joe’s.

I am totally a baby about going fast down a hill mountain biking. It is so fun once I am going, but I pee my pants a little for the first 10 minutes or so.

Reply

Ok first of all you could no look preggo if you tried!!! Second of all, I wear an XXXXXXL helmet too so I feel your pain!

I love hiking and rock climbing!
Chapstick for sure, my lips get soooo dry.
I’m going home for the first time in 6 months so I get dinner cooked by my mom, which is totally the best kind!

Reply

OH GIRL…..glad you can relate with the whole ginormous head thing. Dry lips are the WORST!!! SO fun that you got dinner cooked by your mom and you are so right…that really is the BEST!

Oh Lord- how in the world did you stay on a treadmill for THAT long WITHOUT going insane? It takes a lot of work for me to think of something else so I’m distracted and don’t get bored from staring at the same wall for 50 minutes. (I mean, come on, counting the same holes in the walls gets old.lol) Hopefully I’ll get up to that point and be able to run on the treadmill that long…
Did everyone think you were totally crazy for running a marathon on a treadmill? haha. :P I can’t even imagine.

Reply

I literally think I am missing part of my brain. I also had a full season of Friends to watch:) HA…I COUNT WEIRD HOLES/MARKINGS ON THE WALLS TOO!!!

Reply

I love mixing up my workouts. I would love love love a bike but dont have one.

Reply

Oooh, I’m with you on the chapstick and the lotion. I’m a Burts Bees chapstick kind of girl, love the subtle tingling on the lips…mmm, must go get some now!

BURTS BEE’s IS MY FAVORITE!!! I am SO addicted!

Reply

Oh man I totally feel your pain on the big-headed-ness… “one size fits all” hats are a JOKE! hahaha

Din Din tonight = Husband prepared salmon, rice, guacomole, strawberry/cashew/spinach ensalade, and red velvet cake for dessert. Probably accompanied by mucho margaritas. Still, I’d rather have fro yo for din din with youuuuuu!

I love either downloading no equipment workouts or using ExerciseTV.com if I’m working out at home!!! Looks like you had an awesome day! :D

Reply

Rock climbing! I live in Arizona though so it’s easy to do without a gym :)
I had roasted asparagus and fish last night. Delicious!

Reply

You are hilarious with the mentioning of the woman parts. I think you look FANTASTIC!!

Dinner tonight is going to be tuna sandwiches on great buns (butter on these buns is like drugs….you understand) then a salad of romaine, strawberries, walnuts, and mozzarella. Dessert is going to be drumstick ice cream.

Reply

Just wanted to tell you, you look so beautiful!! Have a blast!!!

Reply

I’m jealous that you have a Big Bear connection! That looks like so much fun!

Mountain biking or playing volleyball are definitely my #1 favorite ways to work out, outside of the gym. I actually mostly go to the gym to get into better biking shape. You’re totally right that mountain biking is a major workout. The first time my boyfriend took me at Lake Tahoe, I wanted to die, kill him, and cry, though not necessarily in that order.

I always need chapstick and a bottle of water. Luckily, I have a chapstick that attaches to my bottle.

Hi,

I’ve been following your blog for awhile now, but I just wanted to let you know that you look fabulous! You look so healthy and strong, and I seriously look up to you!

Have a great day!

Reply

I am having leftover sesame noodle salad (recipe from a Food Network cookbook): whole wheat spaghetti, chopped cucumber, green onion, and chicken dressed in a peanut butter based sauce. Delicious! http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/food-network-kitchens/sesame-noodles-with-chicken-recipe/index.html

Reply

THASNK YOU SO SO MUCH FOR LINKING THAT RECIPE…I am DYING to try it…you made my day!

Reply

I laughed so hard hearing about your growing woman parts. I relate. Except mine isn’t due to estrogen… just pure ice cream ;)

AND IT MADE ME SO HAPPY TO HEAR ABOUT SOMEONE ELSE WITH AN ENORMOUS HEAD!!!!!!!!! hahaha i seriously have trouble buying hats/helmets/etc cos even the men’s sizes are waaay too small for me. I think i might be part rhinoceros :(

Reply

Let’s start a club for our heads…..and I am glad you are on an ice cream diet too:)

Reply

Have you tried the strawberry daiquiri flavored Sobe? It is equally fabulous!!!!

Reply

OH GIRL!!! IT REALLY IS THE BEST!!! Now I am salivating for one of those!!

Reply

I love doing yoga, my own circuits, or HIIT cardio with random cardio options. I think biking is fun too!

I always take chapstick and a camera :)

Reply

When I don’t have a gym, I usually just do a bunch of push ups, crunches, squats, lunges and other activities that don’t require weights. :)

And I would agree with needing chapstick or lipgloss… I truly believe that I am addicted to the stuff!

For dinner I had a turkey burger on a whole wheat bun, spicy sweet potato fries, and a side of raw veggies with ranch dip. Followed that up with an ice cream sandwich because after-dinner sweets are mandatory around this house. :)

Reply

I NEED YOUR DINNER….can I come over:) Ice cream is a MANDATORY on a daily occasion for me too:)

Reply

Heck yeah, come on over!! I’ll cook and you can entertain me… I think you are hilarious! :)

Reply

When I don’t have access to the gym I dance! Not as much of a workout, but definitely fun. I love doing Dance Dance Revolution at home. Haven’t done it in a while – will have to pull it out!

One thing for a day long activity…a book. Would have to be a thick one. Yeah – total book nerd. Or a laptop, if I was someplace with connectivity.

My dinner is a salad w/homemade dressing (1 tsp each mustard/olive oil/balsamic, shaken together) and colby cheese, a morningstar chik patty, and some strawberries!

Reply

Looks like a seriously glorious day! When I’m not running, I love hiking OR traveling back in time and going rollerblading by the beach. I have big plans for blading this weekend!

Reply

When I was younger I usto love rollerblading, and it was always such a good workout…I wonder what happened to those things?? Now, I prefer either walking my dog or also bike riding gives me a great stress and break from the gym.
If I could take one thing with me to have all day on an adventure it would have to be my dog, I can’t live with out him :)

Reply

WE SHOULD START A ROLLERBLADING TREND AGAIN….so so fun!!! Walking the dog is the BEST!!

Reply

I agree, roller blading rocked! I used to go every day in the summer when I was home from college. My butt was so firm!

Reply

Looks like so much fun! I love to dance and attempt to play tennis (attempt is the key word). I would definitely take chapstick or deodorant- gotta keep the BO away if it’s a daylong activity :). Btw, I have some blogging questions for you when you’re available! I had sent you an email last week and never heard back- maybe it didn’t go through :(. Anyway, love you!

Reply

Ahhhhh can u resend it…. I just went through my inbox and can’t found it!

Reply

I sent you another email!

Reply

Ha, I would take chapstick along with me too. It’s like a Visa…never leave home without it.

Reply

Round Face?? What are you talking about? You are gorgeous and look HEALTHY and beautiful!! Yoga in the mountain air… Jealous! Sounds perfect!!

I like to play soccer or tennis, and go on a hike or bike!! So fun and such a good workout! Toms mountain biking girl? Haha my husband is dying over here! Yes, mountain biking is hard core even if its down hill!! Looks so fun!!

I take chapstick and sunglasses!! We had pizza for dinner tonight!!

Reply

lloveee the p90x videos– they are what got me into fitness/health!!
pasta for dinner
and CANNOT leave my house without my nike water bottle…i love it

Reply

I love riding my bike or rollerblading (not kidding!), and yoga! You can download yoga videos or podcasts and get in a great workout at home…or while traveling!

Reply

I love equipment free workouts! I tend to push myself harder when I don’t have weights to use. I’m going to check out your workouts.

I carry my Burt’s everywhere. Just the basic lip balm. Nothing fancy. I hate chapped lips. I tend to chew on them as a stress habit, so if they are chapped, I will tear them apart.

I made bacon wrapped chicken for dinner. I’m going to blog it out soon!

Reply

I like skipping!! Or I’d say ride a bike even though it’s something I haven’t done in forever…or hike haha

Reply

Absolutely addicted to chapstick. I have it on me constantly and strategically placed around the house so I never have to worry about it.

Reply

I love biking but I’m afraid of falling over when I go up hills, so I usually stick to spin classes. If I have no gym or just feel like being outside, I’ll take zee puppy for a hike and let her pull me during the hard parts. :-)

Reply

I had a baked sweet potato with a little butter, almond extract, coconut shavings, pecans, splenda, and only a little brown sugar…..hey what can I say, I needed something sweet!

Reply

Your dinner sounds AMAZING…I NEED THAT IN MY LIFE!!!

Reply

If I can’t make it to the gym and I can’t run, I’ll do a workout from Bodyrock.tv. They’re HIIT workouts and are usually somewhere around 15 minutes, but they kick my butt so hard, that I’m like jell-o afterward. Totally amazing workouts.

I would definitely take my sunglasses on an all day activity. If I don’t have those with me, I can’t even open my eyes, so it defeats the purpose of doing anything at all. =)

Reply

I have a big head too, haha…sometimes it’s hard to find hats and headbands that fit…pathetic, lol.

Reply

I like your lady parts(not in a creepy way ofcourse :)), definitely not preggo looking!

LOVE fun adventures, looks like you are having an amazing vacay! Very well deserved!

Reply

YOU MADE MY DAY!! THANK YOU!!!

Reply

CHAPSTICK!!

Also, please help. I keep getting this pain deep in my glute lately. It also hurts a little down my leg sometimes. I starts hurting during a run and then continues for a long time after. I’ve foam rolled like a mad man and nothing is helping. I keep trying to stretch my piriformis but no stretch helps enough. I’m getting worried because everyone I talk to keeps saying it might be piriformis syndrome? Like a compressed sciatic nerve? :( PLEASEEE helppp!

PS. I’m jealous of your bike ride in the mountains! I live in downtown Chicago (soo flat) But I did go for a good bike ride today after my run to Navy Pier to my FAVORITE candy store :)

Reply

AHHH Girl, I am SO sorry about your glute pain…that sounds SO painful!!!! I don’t know anything about sciatic nerve issues but I would take time OFF (I know that SUCKS TO HEAR) and if it doesn’t feel better GO IN and get it checked out. PLEASE KEEP ME UPDATED and I am praying you are okay!

Reply

I loved your “don’t pretend you don’t suck in when you get your picture taken” comment. Ha ha. It’s true, I do, but I guess it’s kind of subconscious reaction, so hearing you point it out was funny.

I don’t belong to a gym, so workout dvds are my best friend right now. I didn’t even think to download workouts. That’s awesome. I’ll have to do that when I get bored of my workout dvds.

Reply

We went mountain biking in Big Bear and missed our short route, ended up going the 3.5hours route and some of those inclines were harder than any spin class EVER. But the mountain breeze made it totally worth it and so did the scenary! That was a workout enough for me!

Reply

I am still in shock that you actually ran 26.2 miles on your treadmill- and in 3:26 no less!!! That is pretty stinkin awesome!!

Reply

super fun bike ride! i love seeing you in the sunshine out doors loving it up! so glad to see you are having such a fun time!

Reply

Looks like fun! I’m going to Big Bear tomorrow for the long weekend!

Reply

AHH I JUST MISSED YOU BOO!! WE WILL HAVE TO MEET-UP SOON!!!

Reply

Hi Janae! It was so great to meet you too :). Seriously…I couldn’t believe we’d all been sitting there for like 2 hours hanging out !! Time flies when you’re hangin’ out with awesome bloggers!

Reply

Definitely yoga :-) And biking – I told you that mountain biking would kick your trash, lol! ;-) I would definitely take suncreen – I have blonde hair and pale skin so I literally FRY. It’s not pretty, and pretty painful! :-P xyx

Reply

Looks like you had fun! I’m not a member of a gym so I use magazines and blogs for fitness inspiration :)

Reply

Your capris are adorable! Looks like you guys had a really great day. :)

Reply

Love Big Bear! And the mtn biking there is pretty fun!

I actually DON’T have a gym membership so ALL my workouts are sans gym. When I can’t run? Yoga. Road or mtn biking. Nike Training Club… seriously, download it for your iPhone. Such a good workout!! And it’s FREE!

And chapstick is a MUST when working out outdoors.

Jealous of your summer-long vacay!!

Reply

This looks like fun. I have never been into mountain biking. I like taking my two puppies out into the back country trails and hiking around.

Today is CANADA DAY (haha) so it is kind of like your Fourth of July. So we bought some grilling foods. Especially excited for the grilled asparagus. And of course we will whip up some cupcakes to celebrate:)!

Reply

I love biking and hiking when I don’t get to the gym. I love biking with the hubby, it’s so fun. Looks like an awesome time in Big Bear.

Reply

I love videos from yogadownload.com, and I do push-ups/ab work at home too, or even get a whole upper body workout in with resistance bands. Feels just as hard as using free weights in the gym!

I definitely can’t go for very long without reapplying my Burt’s Bees chapstick! But no gloss outside–my hair is magnetically attracted to gloss and then I spend all day getting my hair unstuck from my glossed-up lips!

Special dinner out tonight–SUshi!!!!! So excited!

Reply

Currently my daily workout is walking for miles and miles at Disney world… Definitely meant to use the hotel gym but I’ve been too tired! But as far as gymless workouts go, Disney world is a pretty good choice ;)

You look adorable as usual and mountain biking looks super fun!!

Reply

Hmmmm…with no gym and no running…I am out of luck! What can I say? I’m a gym rat :-)

I’m with ya on the lip gloss. I bring it everywhere. I stick it in my sports bra when I go running around NYC :-)

I had my homemade chicken for dinner…it was so so. I am not the best cook. Oh well, I’m good at other stuff.
