Just a bike ride away. Time to file for bankruptcy.

I am positive you all wanted to start your morning off by seeing a ginormous forehead and unplucked eyebrows but we did do you a favor and cropped out of the picture the fact that I peed my pants.

As me and my main squeeze were out and about doing errands something magical happened.  We were literally 2 miles (yes, I used the trip button on my car to figure out the exact logistics) from my in-laws house when I spotted heaven.  We thought the closest Yogurtland was 25 minutes away but now we know it is just a bike ride away (ps it is right across the parking lot from our gym….best way to refuel those muscles).

We thought that we were going to be able to save up enough money for Billy’s tuition this next semester but that is no longer the case now that fro-yo is so close.

This is my “I don’t know if Billy is happy about this or extremely upset that I spotted this store of happiness and it is going to make life awkward when the credit card statement comes in the mail.”

IMG 6843

I had the VANILLA BEAN with strawberries, gummy bears and mochi.

We did a few more errands like COSTCO (um, I thought Utah’s costco was good…..) and then came home and Billy and I played with Charlie for an hour.  That dog is so entertaining and a heck of a lot smarter than me.

Then I fell asleep on the living room floor because clearly my day was so tough.  I woke up and moved to my bed for another hour.  Let’s just say I am typing this really late and I have no idea what time I will actually be falling asleep.  Billy loves it when I make him stay up late with me because I slept the day away.

I woke up to a smell of spaghetti that B was making and dug right in.

I think he might be trying to push me out of my ranking of favorite child (technically, child-in-law but they forget about that) and made our favorite RICE PUDDING for dessert.

What is your favorite place within 2 miles of where you live?

Do you use a credit card or cash more often?

-I NEVER have cash but when I was a waitress that is all I used!!

Do you eat your dinner in a specific order?

-I always eat my veggies first followed by the main course and save the fruit for last.  Gotta end on a sweet note and something to hold me over for 20 minutes until real dessert.

Have you ever fallen asleep somewhere weird?!?!

-Movie theaters, church (don’t tell my mom), one time at school while I was playing a movie during class for my students (I was on painkillers for my mouth surgery) and one time my nephew fell asleep while we were in line for space mountain and woke up as we were going up the first climb on the roller coaster….

Ive never been to YogurtLand, but now I wanna go try to find one, even if I have to leave the state of OHIO!

My favorite place within two miles of where I live is—–Cedar Point

I lately have been using cash, but I usually use my debit card.

I go in a circle on my plate when I eat dinner. I am weird.

I have fallen asleep on–trains, planes, school buses, movie theaters, one time in high school i fell asleep during Latin class–I felt like complete garbage that day thank you very much, a trampoline

oh thats an easy question!! Yogurtland is less than 1/2 mile away from my house!! and Whole Foods is less than a mile! i live right in the heart of a bustleing neighborhood in Houston and sooooo many wonderful things within 2 miles!!

Reply

Haha I love the pictures of you- they are awesome, and you so do not have a big forehead..please I’ve seen so much worse :) I always use a credit card- but that can get me into trouble, whoops! As for dinner order, the veggies definitely have to go first and something sweet is for sure the last thing. And then I ALWAYS

Reply

Wow that didn’t finish for some reason haha. I always have cereal at night, or something else that I can’t control my portion sizes with :)

Reply

We have a Friendly’s like 0.5 miles away from my house and their peanut butter sauce is to die for! I waitressed too and only used cash forever. Husband has been trying hard to make me give up that habit.

Reply

Red Mango!! All my money goes to them.. it’s a sad story but true and I’ve accepted this and moved on.

Reply

OMG that must be the way I felt when I saw that a 16 Handles was opening down the street from me. It was the middle of winter, but I didn’t care. I definitely went there for the grand opening in the middle of January. yeeeeeah.

I use a debit card. Sometimes a credit card but that gets dangerous, especially at the grocery store.

I don’t generally eat dinner in a specific order. I’m too busy scarfing it down like little Miss Piggy.

Back in the day, I used to fall asleep in class. I was a very good student but I was always so busy and tired! I’ve definitely fallen asleep in many meetings at work. Corporate America is straight boring sometimes. That is why I ALWAYS carry coffee with me like it is another accessory. A coffee purse perhaps?

Reply

We have NOTHING within biking distance :( But there is a Red Mango about 5 miles away. It’s not yogurt land, but it will suffice!
I always eat my veggies first so that just in case I possibly get full at least I’ve gotten my greens in. Then I eat my protein, and then I eat a weight watchers ice cream of some sort because they are the perfect size portion for a sweet tooth.
I once fell asleep when I was working at ZCMI (does anyone remember that store in Utah?) folding towels in a towel stock room. Me and my co-worker woke up and hour later and got right back to work acting like nothing happened. I felt so guilty!

Reply

In Canada people use debit cards instead of cash but it’s embarrassing to use it for anything under $10. I, on the other hand have no shame and use it at my work cafeteria for $1.50 lattes.

I always eat my veggies first too! When I have my salad I always have the spinach, cherry tomatoes and broccoli first, and save the cranberries, goat cheese, and/or nuts for last because they’re so freakin yum.

I never fall asleep unless I’m in bed or the couch because I’m a stomach sleeper and a light sleeper at that. Long airplane and car rides are never spent sleeping and sometimes I really hate that!

Hope you have a fantabulous Tuesday!

Reply

I NEVER have cash! I suck at carrying it with me. If I don’t have cash, I won’t spend it. That’s my motto at least. There’s really nothing good within two miles of me. My building is nice but in a rough neighborhood so I wouldn’t go walking around. I’ve fallen asleep in countless movie theaters, college classes and while having conversations with people.

Reply

I always eat my veggies first too. Get those outta the way to get to the reallllly good stuff. :-)

Oh, and my dentist told me once that he has people fall asleep in his chair while he’s doing work on them. Um, how is that POSSIBLE? I however, am not one of those people. :-)

Oh, and I just realized it is SUPER easier to comment on your blog now. Whatever you did….THANK YOU. I can comment so much more now!

Living in NYC there are a million places within 2 miles of me. This is a good and bad thing because I can walk outside and get whatever kind of food I want but then my wallet hates me!

Reply

I live in the best and worst location ever in my area. It’s the best bc everything is so close but that also makes it bad. Sooo much temptation! I have a froyo place, cupcake place, sushi place annnnd Target all within a mile of me! I never have cash either. I don’t eat in a specific order and I think most of the sleep places have been normal. Also your dessert from dinner looks so good!

Reply

Yogurtland has Mochi?! I’m jealous! I live just a few blocks away form a fro-yo place and it’s DANGEROUS. Especially because people are constantly asking me to walk over and meet them, since it’s RIGHT by my house. I have no excuse. I can’t so no to fro-yo AND Friends. I mean that’s just crazy.

Reply

If there was my fave fro-yo place (Red Mango) across the street from my gym, I am not sure how I would handle it!

Do they open at 6am? Breakfast!

Reply

SInce I live in a small town, my favorite place 2 miles away from me is Scooter’s Coffee (the only coffee house lol) and my gym is right next door, Anytime Fitness.
I am the worst at always using my debit card on everything. I hate taking cash out, if I have cash I will spend it quicker. Sometimes I feel pretty silly though putting items like a 54 cent pop on my debit card. My boyfriend on the other hand always carries around cash.
When it comes to dinner I always eat my salad or veggies first, then my protein of the meal followed by my carbs. The carbs are my favorite part of the meal so I always save those for last!!

Reply

billy’s rice pudding with blackberries looks scrumptious! almost as scrumptious as the kind i made last night–with DULCE DE LECHE. it was outrageous(ly sweet)–you should definitely talk him into trying it sometime ;).

Reply

Credit card these days to get points for free Starbucks gift cards! I typically take cash out on pay days to budget myself too!

That would be dangerous to have a fro-yo place that close, that would be my weekly budget spent!

I can fall asleep anywhere – theaters, the car, parties… only one place I have never fallen asleep is in school!

Reply

I’m not sure there is anything good within two miles of my house. Sad.

I always use credit. I think it helps me restrain my spending. If I have cash it’s like it doesn’t count because there’s no tracking it!

I want that rice pudding!!

Reply

I would go bankrupt being so close to froyo too! Oh sweet heavens would I.

I used to live in SoCal, and I’m having a field day living vicariously through you. I used to go to the Yogurtland in Belmont Shores (in Long Beach) because there are so many cool shops to walk around near there. It’s a little far from RSM, but so different from the Block/ the Spectrum (I can’t remember if there’s a yogurtland or a pinkberry there, but for sure something). I definitely used to save the spoons- they’re heavy duty and go fantastically in your teacher bag.
Do you have specific daily or weekly plans while in SoCali? If not, I’m making your running routes! Enjoy!

Reply

I really need to check out Yogurtland one of these days, lol… I feel like I’m being deprived of something!
We don’t have anything super cool that’s close, but the pool in Brigham City is exactly 2 miles from us so it’s nice to load the kids into the wagon in the summer and walk there :)

Reply

Yay for frozen yogurt!! :D
We can literally walk to a steak restaurant where they bring it out on a skillet topped with grilled onions!!!! aaaand the breadstore is right beside it and has fresh bread 24/7!

Reply

That rice pudding looks amazing! You should post the recipe – if it is not a secret! I can fall asleep anywhere! I think I almost fell asleep at work once I was so tired…..my favorite, most relaxing place to sleep is the car! We are trying to move to a strictly cash basis – so far it has been working!

Reply

Did Billy get a haircut?

Unfortunately for my wallet. . .menchies froyo is LITERALLY out my back door!!!

Reply

I haven’t ever been to Yougurt land. Time to google the nearest location.

Dinner looks fantastic! Wow!

I only use cash when I’m doing my wifely money laundering scheme. Otherwise I use the card.

Reply

I can only wish that was 2 miles away from my house! We just got a Rita’s here, which is like a total shocker considering we live in the middle of nowhere. It’s 1.35 miles from my house (yes, I clocked it with the Garmin when I run past it) and that’s a little too close for comfort. Good thing I’m not a huge Rita’s fan as that’s the only thing keeping me from going every day.

My family has all been known to sleep whenever, wherever, but my brother wins hands down. One time my parents sent him to the garage to get some things and after about an hour realized they hadn’t seen him since. When they went looking for him, he was asleep on top of the chest freezer (he ws 17). Another time, about the same age, he was working nights in an orchard harvesting cherries. He fell asleep while driving a tractor and ended up in a canal. Good thing the kid is charming.
Favorite place 2 miles away? Probably the Provo River Trail, maybe Nordstrom.

Cute one of Billy in the kitchen. I love when the men have their signature dishes…..this rice pudding sounds like it could be one of Billy’s.

Favorite place within to minutes: “That Great Coffee Place” Best vanilla latte.

Credit Card

Veggies and meat first but alternating, I am not an eat all of one thing then the next kind of gal. Like you I finish with fruit, and sometimes I have to finish with the carbolishousness……like a great roll and butter. ymmmmmm.

Fell asleep when my hubby had me take a the Volvo factory tour while on vacation. They put us on a tram……I was out.

There is this bar near me in NYC that when you buy a drink, they give you an Admit 1 ticket, and you can go to the back and someone makes you a personal pizza FOR FREE. You can get a free pizza with every drink. The room behind it has skee-ball and games, and then there’s a backyard area. It’s AMAZEBALLS. Oh, and I am 25 and not 10 years old, believe it or not.

Reply

oh my gracious, I’m so jealous. can I come live with you for the next few weeks? we can go to yogurtland every day (for free rent I’m willing to fund the yogurt “issue” we’ll have) and then run/bike off all the calories. it’ll be so glorious.

say yes, Janae. just say yes.

Reply

I never have cash, but I also never use my credit card. Debit card all the way. I have to remind myself to use my credit card to rack up a good credit score

Reply

Did Billy get a haircut?!?!

OMG THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME LAST WEEK!!! I discovered a newly opened fro-yo shop literally right down my street :D It made me so happy, but since I’m nearly broke, I’m going to have to practice my self control.

I usually use either cash or my debit card, since I’m very bad with remembering to pay off my credit card. So I avoid that at ALL COSTS.

Reply

How fun!! I must admit that I am pretty jealous of your life right now. But I am so glad you are just enjoying the lazy days of Summer. You totally deserve it.

There is nothing cool within 2 miles of my house unless you count walmart I suppose. I never have cash but when I do it is gone within 2 seconds. That is probably why I never have it. ha! Love you girl!

Reply

all i want is some fro-yo with candy now!!! that is AMAZING that there’s one so close to where you’re staying. i think you can justify large fro-yo purchases if you bike to get it (bc you’ll be saving money in gas).

i hardly ever have cash so i mostly use my card. whenever i do have cash i spend it way too fast bc it seems like play money (since i’m now so used to using cards).

i want that rice pudding!!!

One time I fell asleep very conspicuously waiting in the lobby of a hotel for my room to be ready…when I woke up I had dribbled on the chair in my sleep which was incredibly awkward, lol! In my defence I had just come off of a 13 hour night flight all by myself, so the terror and fear of flying had kept me awake the whole time…still, not my best moment! :-P xyx

oh I haven’t had rice pudding in years! can billy come make it for us? such a good hubs.

And I love that we live right by a sushi place!!

After a week at my first year of Girls Camp, we were unloading the car (my older sisters were my counselors so we had A LOT of shiz) and I, literally, passed out on the sidewalk in front of our house for an hour. There’s a video of this, my sisters taped me… I love and hate them for it. I especially love the drool puddle that’s forming on the sidewalk near my face. I was VERY confused when they woke me up… on the sidewalk. Oh gosh

Reply

It might be a little bit more than 2 miles (3 maybe) but the beach is my favorite close location to me. I always use cash to buy groceries, but my card for everything else. I’m not sure why that happens. Just a quirk I suppose.
Next time you make rice pudding you should try using coconut milk. SO GOOD. It makes it so sweet and so creamy. yum.

Reply

Yes, yogurtland is the best! Best frozen yogurt place I would say!

My gym is less than 2 miles from my house….which makes it VERY hard to find excuses not to go!!!

i once fell asleep on the toilet. we got home from a road trip at like 3 am and i fell asleep while i was sittin on the pot. my mom had to wake me up. i was only like 8 years old in my defense. although i could see myself doing it now at 23 too.

Reply

Wow I would be in big time trouble if there was frozen yogurt that close to me house. Enjoy some extra for me! :)

Reply

I used to always use my debit card. Now, I get cash once a week, and I love it. I still use my debit, but there are plenty of times when I wish I had cash and now I do. Of course, this means it often goes to my kids.

I have never fallen asleep someplace strange but I love to sleep in the car. Once I was having trouble sleeping at night and I planned a trip an hour away so I could crash out while my husband drove. Worked like a dream.

My favorite place close to my house is the farmer’s market on Wednesday because they have tons of fruit but they also have killer shave ice. My mouth waters just thinking about it.

Reply

Frozen yogurt seems to be HUGE in the states… we don’t have anywhere in Newfoundland (except the movie theatre) and I am becoming extremely jealous!

And I always eat veggies first no matter what! I think it is because I know I should eat them and I don’t want to have the excuse that I am too full!

Reply

Well if i expand to 5 miles (2 miles starting from the bottom of the massive hill I live on) then there’s a plethora of options… tcby, jamba juice, starbucks, target… I’ve actually never tried tcby though, which is a shame.

And from school, probably blondies (a froyo place :) ) or frozos (another froyo place) or within 3 miles there’s a trader joe’s & target & starbucks & jamba juice. Totally walkable, I’ve done it before ;)

it’s funny because I live in downtown Philadelphia, so I literally haven’t gone more than 2 miles away from home in months! the only time I got more than 2 miles away from home is when I go to work, and that’s 2.75 miles away from home haha

Reply

My fave place within 2 miles is probably Starbucks or this sweet thai place. I like to eat ma veggies first…but if I’m really hungry, then it’s normally the potaters or something real starchy muahah. I find I hardly ever use cash…but like you, when I was getting tips, I used that more or tried to save it up and deposit into the bank. Maybe the bank thought I was a drug dealer haha

Just catching up on blogs from the weekend, welcome to (finally) sunny California! Glad you guys are having a blast!

I used to go to midnight openings of my favorite movies, but after I fell asleep 30 minutes in to the last Harry Potter installation, I wait the day :-)

So exciting, I am jealous!!!

Reply

welcome to Cali!! :D I always eat in a pattern–like, a little bite of the meat and then the rice, and then the veggie. Repeat.

Reply

I’m the QUEEN of sleeping on the floor, the movie theater, the backseat of a car, a bar in my ex’s lap. Man anywhere! I love Cali totally moving there with you and we can run all day (OK I can chase you!).

Reply

There’s a restaurant around the corner from our home that has the best salmon I’ve ever had! And I dream about it and want to go there every other night. But it’s sort of pricey, so we save it for special occasions. :) I almost always use my debit card. Billy gives me cash every now and then, but otherwise, I never have any!

Reply

My favorite place within two miles from my house is the Country Club because that’s where the POOL is and my gym. I almost always use cash and never a credit card (my husband won’t let me). I eat my veggies first, then the pasta and end with fruit if I have any. I have fallen aleep at the movie theater and at a red light…oh shhh…. that’s bad!

Reply

Um… Lake Michigan? It’s either that or Subway. The closest Culver’s is 10 miles away. I suppose I could bike there.

Reply

I pretty much always use a credit card, but I prefer cash because I don’t spend it as frivolously.

Reply

Yogurtland is just a bike ride away from my apartment as well! I’m in Orange County in Cali– I wonder if you’re near here!
ps. Billy looks so diff. with his haircut haha I had to do a double take on the pic
