I am a runner again.

Watching the lead men and woman of the marathon was SO inspirational to me.  These people are so dedicated, driven and motivated to do everything they can do be phenomenal runners.  They make it looks so easy too!  First place male finished in 2:19.  CRAZY!!!  The two leaders with orange bibs….passing the half-marathoners!

It was an amazing day because I felt like I was part of the running world again.

I know it sounds kind of cheesy but just running a few miles with other runners gave me so much hope, motivation and pure joy.  I was reminded all over again why I love running so much.

It is the one thing that I do for me. It’s the time that I carve out for myself and nothing can interrupt it. It’s my “selfish” time. The time that I can think, say, listen to anything that I want. It’s all about me during my run. How I feel, my pace, my mileage. It’s my own therapy where I am the patient and the therapist. It’s the time that I feel the strongest and the weakest. The bravest and the most scared. It’s because of all these emotions, and feelings that I love running so much. It’s all the pain and the glory that keeps me going.

I love the way you wrote this – this is EXACTLY how I feel about running too. It is really the only thing I selfishly do for me and me alone. I’d continue on, but you described it PERFECTLY. :)

Exactly what Melissa said and it gives me some quiet time from my kids and husband. When I run no one is asking me for anything, tattling, crying, or expecting anything from me.

Running clears my head and makes me feel strong. Even if I haven’t done anything else that day, if I’ve gotten in a run, I feel accomplished! I also love that unless you are an elite runner, your biggest competition is yourself!

People ask me this all the time……When I first started to run, I said to “get in shape”….Then once I was in shape, I would say it was to “stay in shape”…Now it is so much more to me. I run just for the love of running now….Just Because I want to-….It is the best way to start your day, it is the best way to unwind after a long day, It can be “time to think:……it can be social time if you take a buddy with you……It is sooo many things……I am so happy for you that you are almost fully recovered!

it’s a goal that is measurable. I do best when I have a goal. I love lifting weights but I will never be a competitor so while I love it I get bored easily and keep changing my lifting every month. Running is something that I can do AND see how I get faster. My girls love to watch me run also.

Yay so glad you are getting back there again.
I love the feeling of accomplishment that I get, and the fresh air, and the feeling that I am making my legs and lungs and heart strong. And I love a medal too!

I LOVE running because of how it makes me look and feel. I love training for a specific race and race day. I love how I run so much better at races with everyone around me!

i’m so happy watching the race was such a beautiful experience for you!! You’ve really dealt with your injuries with such grace. It’s quite inspirational :)

I run because I never liked my body and always felt disconnected from it. When I got over disordered eating and lost weight, I realized what a gift my body was. Now when I run it’s with the spiritual inspiration of the body is the temple. It gives me a way in which to grow both physically and mentally.

Hope the rest of your weekend is as wonderful as you are!!

Running to me is my own personal victory. No one else’s. I only run for myself and no one else. I set my own goals and the only person I can disapoint is myself.

Yeah…that was those marathoners passing me! Haha! :)
I run because I love the way it makes me feel when I go a little bit farther or a little bit faster. I was never happy with my body until I started running and was able to see what a wonderful gift it actually was to me.

It was fun seeing you along the way. Did you feel like a celebrity when I recognized you!! You are cuter than ever in person!!

I bet motivation was thick in the air and I have no doubt you will recover and be a stronger runner as a result of this! I have never spectated a race (partly because of where I am located, not much going on) but now that I have finally raced, I would love to see it from the other side!

So glad you got to be a part of running again!!

I love running becaue it makes me feel like I’m in control of my body, I’m addicted to the endorphins and because it clears my head. I do my best thinking/planning on my runs. :) So glad you can run again, your enthusiasm is contagious.

I know exactly what you mean! Today I waited at mile 10 of a 1/2 marathon for a friend of mine (I was going to finish the race with her) and there was just pure adrenaline running through me! Seeing all those people doing what they love is so awesome and inspirational!!

I would absolutely love to jump in & run with a few people during marathon that I’m not running in. I bet it would be so inspiring! How fun.

girl, you never stopped being a runner! you have the heart and passion and that counts 10 fold!

I have always wanted to be a spectator or volunteer at a race just to be on the other side and cheer on all the runners! It’s a great feeling when you run by the workers or fans and they are all cheering for you!

I like (and sometimes love) running because I feel SO accomplished when I complete a good run. And I love the way it makes my body feel.

I know exactly how you feel! I went and watched the Boston marathon this year 2 months after I had my baby. I had just been given the green light by my doctor to start running again but had taken pretty much the last 9 + months off running and it was slow getting back into it. Anyway, when the elite runners came by I was surprised to find tears streaming down my face. Especially when I saw Kara Goucher, knowing she had just had a baby 7 months before that. It was so inspirational and totally reminded me that even though I had a long way to get back, I was a runner. I’m so happy for you that you’re running again, your joy absolutely radiates in all your pictures. Puts a smile on my face : )

I love it because it gives me an amazing feeling of accomplishment, not mention endorphins! I love it because it’s hard and that’s what makes it worth it. :)

you’re always a runner if it’s in your heart…even those broken femurs can’t take that away from you! wow, that sounded really corny coming out but it’s true. runners are quirky, different, and i guess we have to be to want to go out there and put in the miles when others find it a kind of torture. but SO happy to hear your spirits are lifted and it is always inspiring to watch amazing athletes getting out there and getting it done! hehe.

i run because it keeps me sane. it makes me feel ‘right.’ i also love the feeling after a really good long run or hard workout, knowing you left it all out there. it’s that mix of feeling totally tired but the rush of kicking ur own butt in a good way. :)

Reply

Love it, because I’m in ‘control’ and i get to ‘escape’ :)

Yay congrats and you are definitely still a runner!!

congrats, what an amazing feeling. I love it because it makes me feel strong and confident. I don’t hate the extra amount of food I get to consume either :) as I know you don’t either.

Congratulations, you are so strong!!! Just thought I would share two of my favorite quotes- congratulations on making it through the hardest part!!

Whenever you have any bump in the road, whether it’s two weeks or two years, there are so many naysayers. Let it fuel you. Don’t take it personally. Go out and prove them wrong.
-Jenny (Barringer) Simpson

For me, the hardest part of an injury is watching the races go by that I had hoped to compete in. The only thing that makes it easier is thinking of how certain struggles make other accomplishments mean so much.

I love to run because there is nothing like it! Any other cardio activity is just not the same. Running is portable, accessible, and can be goal-oriented or not. Sometimes it’s like a love-hate relationship, but almost every time I finish a run, it’s all love!

Reply

i love running because it’s something my husband and i do together. it’s also one of the few times neither of us has a phone/computer/ipad in front of our faces- just he and i and the trail in front of us. perfect quality time! :)

I’m catching up on posts. Glad to see you are back at it girl!

I love running because it was something I could never do. Every time I go out for a run, I’m reminded of how I once couldn’t even run around the block, and every step feels like a shout of, “TAKE THAT, WORLD! I CAN DO THIS!”

It’s incredibly empowering and makes me feel more like myself than anything else. Running pushes me to make my life the best it can be (so I can run more), and I find more and more of my goals involve running. It makes me a better person through the running community, and a more aware one, too. I’ve learned more about nutrition and anatomy than I ever thought I would, and I think running will always be a passion of mine.
