Brownies for breakfast.

He always catches me.

IMG 7045

I was minding my own business and after eating a nutritious bfast I just wanted a ‘sliver‘ (ps I just learned that 200 slivers equal half the pan of brownies….dang it) of brownie before we ran out the door for church.

Yes, I am using a butcher knife to cut my brownies.  It was the closest thing and I wasn’t about to walk an extra 10 steps to the other knives on my ‘rest’ day.

We may have snuck out to the car half way through church for a donut or two.

IMG 7046

The last 15 minutes of church, all I could think about was what I was going to throw into my salad bowl.  I am really enjoying not trying to budget in all of my meals for $40 a week…..this fall is going to be hard.

IMG 7050

Sweet potato, peppers, tomato, cilantro, tomatoes, turkey, pickles, cottage cheese, hummus and broccoli slaw.

Are you a ‘just a sliver.’ pick at the baked goods person or are you normal and actually cut a pice and just eat it?

-I do both…..within 20 minutes of each other.  13 slivers and then I cut a piece and sit down to eat it.

What is your favorite sweet potato combination?

-I LOVE them with cottage cheese….heavenly!

Tell me THREE things that you have done today!!!

My husband I just leave a fork in the dessert container, that way we can just walk up, have a bite or two, and walk away, repeat immediately and constantly until it’s gone.

I have made dinner (chicken, broccoli and pesto calzones), taught sunbeams (insanity) and used my foam roller about 17 times.

Definitely 50 slivers in a row. It’s so ridiculous but it makes me feel better about my tiny portion size!
I have tried sweet potatoes a million times trying to convince myself I like them. But, I just don’t like them. They come in fry form and if that’s not enough to do it, nothing is!!!

And today…church, napped, ate. Just how a Sunday is supposed to go!

Reply

I split the pan in half and make sure my boyfriend knows where the line is. I don’t even pretend like I am going to just have one piece.

I went for a long walk to the bay with my boyfriend and we got chips and guacamole (a ton) AND ice cream from this super gourmet place. So good! And we haven’t even gone out on our date night yet… Planning to fit a run in between all the eating!

PS… last night I got coconut yogurt at yogurtland with coconut and caramel on top and gummy bears, of course!

Reply

I definitely need an actual slice :). Three things I have done today – worked out, “studied” at Starbucks, and took a 30 minute nap! Hope you’re having an awesome day!

Oooh, today has been soooo much fun! I have had a wonderful time hanging out with the BFF/BF Tom :-)

My three things are:
1. i practised an amazing yoga class in our living room, which was wonderful!
2. we did some weeding in our lovely little veggie garden out the back,
2 and a 1/2. we went out for a cider (him) and fizzy water (me – it’s free!) at a new-to-us pub in the sunshine and beer garden
3. we had a golf lesson together at the local driving range!

Your salad looks delicious! My favourite ways to eat sweet potato are either with a generous (no, VERY generous) dollop of hummus, or a whole avocado on top. So good! :-)

Take care, lovely! Happy rest-day/evening! <3 xyx

Ha! This totally made me laugh Janae. I am such a “sliver” girl. I think “I’ll just have a little bit” and then before I know it, I’ve eating the whole dang thing in slivers. :)

Reply

hahaha!! where did you even find a bowl that big?!? That’s a lot of popcorn.

I snag all the corners of the brownies immediately. Then I eat many, many slivers. Walking 10 steps to the kitchen each time totally burns off the slivers.

Reply

I never thought to add some pickles to my salad. I bet it would be delicous!

Must try!!

Reply

I take lots of slivers because in my mind it doesn’t seem as bad even though they probably add up to even more than one piece.

I like salsa on my sweet potatoes!

Three things I did today: went on a 10km run, taught 1-hour spin, did 7 loads of laundry, and it was all workout clothes. pathetic.

Reply

I sit down and eat it. If I do the sliver thing I wind up eating half the cake!

My fave way to eat sweet pots: cubed, tossed in coconut oil and cinnamon, and baked til crispy on the outside, mushy on the inside. Mmmmmmm!!!!!

3 things: Did an hour of spin, went to a pool/bbq party, and watched my stepson’s baseball game. Solid Sunday!

2.) made chocolate chip cookie bar
3.) bought a pair of cute shoes

Reply

Are you a ‘just a sliver.’ pick at the baked goods person or are you normal and actually cut a pice and just eat it?
– If I’m going to have a piece, I’m going to have a piece – no slivers. Of course that often means I eat more than I actually want. Clean plate club!

What is your favorite sweet potato combination?

-I love them straight with nothing on them, cooked in the microwave. Skin and all. And, of course, sweet potato fries (duh!).

Tell me THREE things that you have done today!!!

1. Ran the BAA 10K. Was within 30 seconds of my PR. Got cranky because I didn’t do as well as I wanted.

2. Wrote a blog post about the above – http://5recipes.blogspot.com/2011/06/im-participant.html

3. Napped? Does that count? Can I count the cleaning that I will have to be doing within the next hour? I have to clean – the cleaners are coming tomorrow!

Reply

I’ve slivered my way through a pan of brownies way too many times!!

Reply

I use our butcher knife to do a multitude of kitchen cutting needs…opening bags of lettuce, slicing bread, prying open spaghetti squash, etc. My husband is certain I’m an accident waiting to happen.

PS – Brownies for breakfast is a MUST.

Reply

I made brownies today! Recipe coming soon :D

Three things I’ve done today: Played tennis, conquered twitter and went for a run.

Reply

If I don’t cut an actual slice, this is exactly the sort of thing I keep doing! I just keep saying something like, oh just one more sliver… which turns into 20, 30, 50, like you!
Recently I have decided that I could definitely live on sweet potatoes, I can’t seem to get enough of them! I love to top a nice, soft baked one with cottage cheese, plain greek yogurt, cinnamon, almond/peanut butter, peanuts/walnuts, and sometimes crumbled salty crackers for some crunch :)
Three things: 1) drove into Boston with the BF, 2) Felt obligated to stop at a WF in Brighton I had never been to and did this, 3) Finished off a jumbo box of Mike and Ike’s I just bought two days ago… whoops!

Reply

I eat sliver brownies; especially for breakfast. Usually if it’s night time I’ll just go for it, but at random times through out the day I’ll cut a sliver or four.

Reply

The salad looks so great. I am on my usual summer sald kick where all I want is 3 salads a day!
I am even worse with the I’ll just have a sliver thing, I just pick off a small piece 800 times thinking that it “doesn’t count” that way.
I love love love sweet potatos cut into “fries” and baked and then dipped into a mixture od greek yogurt, honey and dijon mustard……Best thing ever.
3 things I did today-Well not too much 1 I did a 9 km run this morning, 2 I baked 17 dozen (yep 17 dozen) cupcakes and 3 Laundry (boring)…..

Reply

I typically will get just a sliver of a brownie (an actual sliver) if it’s at work or church – BUT if it stays in my kitchen at home, I will go back for multiple slivers. :)

I love sweet potatoes any and every way! They are one of my favorite foods ever. I love to make sweet potato fries in the oven and toss them with cinnamon, cayenne pepper, and chili powder. Some are sweet, and some are hot, but they are all delicious. I usually make a dip/frosting for them with coconut butter. YUM.

Three things I’ve done today:
1. church
2. picked up some freshly picked blueberries (cannot wait to make blueberry pancakes!) – 3 quarts!!!
3. this is my big one….. i wrote my very first post on my blog!!!! YAY!

Enjoy your Sunday!!!!

Haha! I’m all for having chocolate for breakfast. I think I probably do it more often than not. And omigosh I’m lusting after that bathtub of popcorn. Swooooon. As for sweet potatoes, I ADORE them with cottage cheese, maple syrup, cinnamon, and almond butter.

I babysat my nephews, age 9 mo and 2 years – and neither one died, which is good;
I ran 3 miles in 99% humidity, what is that all about?!;
And I made pepperoni spaghetti sauce to charm my husband into putting the babies to sleep.

Reply

Sweet potato and coconut are so good together! I made a sauce for basmati rice tonight that was basically pureed sweet pot and coconut milk with cilantro and a bit of cumin. It was so delicious with a few scallops thrown on top.

Reply

I love slivers, but usually go ahead a cut a piece or I’ll get carried away. I slept in, worked at lululemon, and went grocery shopping. Nothing too exciting! :)

Reply

whoops:)

Reply

I don’t really do much with sweet potatoes except just bake ’em and sprinkle ’em with cinnamon! Mmmm!!!

Three things I have done today? Let’s see. I’ve watched 4 episodes of Glee, done three loads of laundry, and I’ve talked with a running coach about him coaching me through my three (MAYBE four!) half marathons this fall!

Reply

I usually slice a piece and sit down and eat it….more enjoyable for me!

I am always thinking about what I am going to eat after church gets out :)

Reply

I’m the sliver cutter that would actually eat less if I would just cut a piece in the first place. I guess I do that so I don’t know how much I actually ate? Just had sweet potatoes tonight! Cinnamon or brown sugar is my favorite. Never tried cottage cheese. I’ll have to try that.

Reply

i’m all about 101 slivers…plus two “normal” pieces (one for each hand, duh!)

sweet potato with cinnamon.. all mashed up. mmmm :)

today i: ran, worked & now i’m blog stalking and eating a buttload of veggies ;) (and may have had like 6 chocolates…)

1.Went to church in pioneer attire. Yep, really is true!
2. Visited with friends at a park
3. Woke up in a tent this morning in the backyard

Totally a “sliver” person. Rice krispie treats are the worst… I can go through half a pan of those just “slivering” my way along. :)

Sweet potatoes… practically my favorite food! Soft and baked and generously sprinkled with cinnamon is the best!

Reply

hahaha I’m just like you. I eat 15 slivers and then just go back for a whole piece after all of that. At least I get exercise going to and from the pan.

I like sweet potatoes, marshmallows, cinnamon and sugar. I should have been born in the south. Nebraska is close enough.

Three things: spinning, writing while laying out (I am talented), baking

title of this post is perhaps one of the best ever and i’m generally honest enough with myself in knowing that i’m going to want a FAT slice so i go that route. but i usually then do exactly what you did/do and go back for a little more…a little more….a little more. what’s that, am i waking up with brownie fudge smeared on my face? ;) lol

Reply

holy moly that’s a lot of popcorn! I always say i just want a sliver, but keep coming back for more!

Reply

I’m a sliver and a piece person…I usually start with a small portion, but then always return to pick at it! Sometimes you just need some dessert for breakfast to get your day off to the right start!

I’ve recently been eating peanut butter mashed sweet potatoes…they are seriously the best thing in the world! bake your sweet potato, then mash it up with a splash of milk and a spoonful of peanut butter – heavenly!!

Reply

I do both but usually in the opposite way as you.. I have a normal serving, then afterwards I keep going back and picking.! Those slivers DON’T COUNT!!! It’s like broken cookies and cereal right out of the box. Doesn’t count

Sweet potatoes.. hmm. Well I’m not a big rice fan so sometimes I make a stir fry with chicken and normal stir fry veggies (peppers, onions, mushrooms, broccoli, carrots..) and I also cook sliced sweet potatoes in it. They go in the pan first as they take longer to cook. The sauce: I use soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, ginger and garlic. Also they are stir fried in sesame oil. You don’t need a ton, but it lends a delicious flavor..

Three things I did yesterday:
1. Rode 41 miles on my bicycle
2. Talked to my family on the phone (I am from Ireland but live in US now)
3. Went out to dinner with my husband and I ordered a BBQ platter that had ribs, pulled pork, steak tips and chicken. I couldn’t eat it all, but it was delicious! The waitress seemed a bit taken aback by my order. What a little gal like me should be ordering something tiny and girly right? hahaha

Reply

I am all for having little bites so I think I didn’t really have much. but we know that’s not true! Sweet potatoes in the salad sounds delish!

Today I picked a ton of snap peas from my garden, went to a session about my 401K at my work (I have no idea whats going on) and now I am sitting at my desk procrastinating doing work and waiting for it to be 1:15 so I can go to my Pilates class!

That salad looks DELICIOUS.

I absolutely love sweet potatoes. My favorite way to have them is to simply fry them up and eat them with a garlic or parmesan aioli.
