I can’t even tell you how happy I am about what I am about to tell you, but first let’s start with some background.
I love this pic not only because of my dadio but my mom and MIL are in the back and look so gorgeous.
Being a health teacher and taking many classes in college about chronic disease I have always been very concerned about my Dad. He has a heart of gold and I want him to be around FOREVER!!
Two weeks ago he went to the hospital and his bp was 196/115 and he was in a lot of pain.
I think this was a major wake up call for him and he has decided to change his life around. This time it is going to stick because he is doing it for HIMSELF rather than what other people want him to do (aka me and my mom putting him on a meal plan and exercise routine)!!!!
After 2 weeks of 6 meals a day of 400 calories or less, at least 6 hours of sleep a night (lets just say he was getting probably half of that), exercising 40 minutes a day (with a heart rate monitor staying within the range of 121-134) and lots of prayers and hugs from the family his bp is now down to 138/80 and he has lost TWELVE LBS!!!!!
He has gone from 292 lbs to 280 lbs. PS I asked permission to write all of this and boys really don’t care if people know there weight…..um, just a little different from girls:)
We could not be more proud of him and do you wanna know the best part…………..
Those 40 minutes of exercise everyday are RUNNING…..he is doing a 12:30 pace and LOVING IT!!! I have NEVER seen my dadio run and the thought of him finding joy in my most favorite thing makes my eyes tear up.
Can’t wait until I am back in the game and you better believe I will be running on my recovery days with him!!!
Now let’s talk about food. PS my dad’s favorite meal of the days is his 8 o’clock ginormous salad the size of his head……I think I may be rubbing off on him:)
On Friday night we went to my favorite restaurant Cafe Rio and got our normal salads. My stomach would not allow the tortilla to enter and so I took it home with the leftover dressing and recreated the salad for lunch today. I threw in lettuce, salsa, carrots and tuna and loved every bite. Pretty sure it isn’t normal to be looking forward to your leftovers as much as I did with this one.
Any words of encouragement for my Dad to keep him going on running and healthifying his life? Any personal stories of how you, friends or family got healthier and into fitness?
Do you get excited about leftovers? What is your favorite leftover?
-There is nothing like leftover Thanksgiving food and turning into a turkey/cranberry/stuffing sandwich:)
