Mr. Treadmill stared at me all morning long.  Taunting me saying, “Think of how much fun we could have together running the hills of Boston while watching the Biggest Loser.”

I knew better and reminded myself the importance of RECOVERY DAYS.  No use doing a killer workout and then not letting your muscles rebuild themselves.   Recovery is just as important as our workouts.  I know my body needs one rest day a week…remember, everyone is different.

It’s all about compromise people.  So instead of running I foam rolled like a demon and then spent some quality time on the treadmill by working on my running journal and inspiration board while watching Biggest Loser on Hulu.

This is how to make a relationship work.  I also finished off my chocolate milk straight from the jug while I worked.

FYI Christmas Pj’s, a birds nest for hair and a jacket that you have worn 574 times and yet to wash, is the cool thing to do.  That is how you score a hot husband……um, how did I get him?Oh yeah, I have a sweet spirit.

Lunch was protein and nutrient packed.  Day 2 of upping my protein is right on track.  Billy is watching his words because he knows I could take him now with all this body building protein.

Tuna galore, spinach, guac, cheese, red onions, black beans and corn.  It was a fiesta plus I added half a bottle of salsa on afterwards.  I may have stolen it from my mom’s food storage, don’t tell her k.  Yes, that is a family sized serving bowl.  It’s normal.

We are off to church followed by family dinner at the sister’s house.  I am craving children time.  Weird, I know, but I haven’t been around kids for a while and I feel like we think a lot alike….(ie candy, movies like Tangled, hide and go seek in the dark, trampoline love and no desire to brush my hair).  Why do I have to be 25?

Hmm, my child like characteristics would be my love for Disney and my complete lack of patience. I can't stand to wait for anything! Including my birthday, which is 11/14.

Good job on taking your rest day. I always struggle with wanting to run on my scheduled rest days and not wanting to run on my scheduled days. Maybe I'm just contrary.

Hah, glad to see you got non-running bonding time in with your treadmill. I love being around kids, and I work as a summer camp counselor. I can't believe I get paid to play and run around with kids all day, then have campfires and eat s'mores with them!

Childlike characteristics- I pout, have tantrums, when I need to eat I need to do it right then, and I fight naps and sleep. Bday is July 31. My question is when you taper before a race, how do you keep from going nuts?

My birthday is Sept. 21!

I think my most childlike characteristic is my voice. I have to make a point to lower my voice when I'm on the phone so I sound like I'm over 12 years old.

Also, I am interested to learn a little more about your running history. I know you've been running since you were young, but were you always significantly faster than the average rec. runner? Were you ever on any teams/run competitively?

I'm pretty much like a kid all the time- when you teach second graders and have one in your home- well, no choice. I listen to teeny bopper music which makes my hubby just roll his eyes, but I know my daughter loves it! I also love watching some of the Disney shows, like Phineaus and Ferb- if you haven't caught it= hil-ar-ous!!! My daughter and I just giggle all the time at it:)
What kind of running shoes do you wear? Do you recommend any particular kind? And do wear a GPS watch to run with (outdoors)? I'm aging the idea of getting one, but I may need to take out a loan from the bank for one- any recs on those?

hmmm…childlike characteristics…I still stomp my foot sometimes (temper tantrum alert!) and I also get grouchy when I am hungry or need a nap like a little baby.

I love how you missed your treadmill so much you sat on it. You are hilarious. Great job with the run and with your protein! I am trying to force myself to take a second rest day tomorrow because I raced today and I KNOW my body needs it – why is resting so hard? My birthday is June 19th, I'll be 28 but feels more like 7. My birthday is July 23rd.

I still get giggly like a kid and I love it. The more exicted I am about something the more high pitched I get. I get grouchy and not very productive when I'm tired/hungry.

What do you eat in the mornings before you run? I'm always afraid that I'll get sick because I've eaten too much or get light headed because I haven't eaten enough. It's been a huge factor in me NOT running in the mornings and I wish I could!

Wanted to tell you that I thought about you today…that sounds weird…right?! But I did the Myrtle Beach Half Marathon this weekend and there was a marathon too. For the first time since they have had the race (14 years) a woman won the marathon!!! She did it in under 3 hours…I can't remember her exact time…she beat the man by like 3 minutes!! I thought of you because you will run Boston in under 3 hours! And one day you will win a Marathon and beat the boys too! :)

The weather has been nice here so my poor treadmill has turned into a clothes rack for all the laundry to hang dry on….

Good for you for sticking to your rest day!! Recovery IS just as important as our workouts! It has maybe taken me awhile to learn that but I'm really at peace on my rest days now! Perhaps because I'm too busy to actually rest….ha!

Childlike characteristics……Umm I end up in torrents of laughter during church if one of the hymns mentions the word breast or ass (believe it or not there are A LOT of hymns that include these words)-my mom seriously still gives me the death glare down the pew and I'm 35….

Childlike traits…oh boy.
– Peanut butter, Nutella, and sprinkles on EVERYTHING.
– Love of swing-sets, sandpits, and trampolines.
– Disney movies/music pretty much non-stop.
– Drinking milk out of the carton… especially if it's strawberry, banana or chocolate.
– An alarming disregard for personal hygiene… I practically have to be dragged kicking and screaming into the shower some days.
– All the gross stuff… biting my nails, using my sleeve as a tissue, picking scabs…

Rest days may be dull but just think about how great your run will be tomorrow. My runs are always best after a rest day. As far as my childlike tendencies go there are too many to list. I force people around me to watch Disney movies, eat with my hands, can't sit still, and sing constantly. I actually try to be more "childlike" when I work out. Think about it, when kids run do they care about calories burned or how their thighs look?? Nope, they run cause it is fun! So now when I'm stressing over my runs or getting bored I make airplane wings with my hands (I get some strange looks at the gym). Sounds silly but it totally works.

My birthday is April 7th. I act like a child when I don't feel well. We haven't been able to run lately b/c of me being sick and visitors. I miss it so much, but like you understand the importance of rest.

My birthday is September 22=)
I love being with kids, too! I love kids movies and will always act like a complete dork with my cousins. We sing, dance, jump on the trampoline, make yummy food together, eat candy, pretty much anything you could think of. Disney is one of my favorite places so I think that can make me as childlike as well!
My question for you is how did you come to LOVE running so much? I run because it is good for me and I love going to fun races. I don't actually like running though, the feeling of accomplishment afterward yes but not the actual act of running no. You are such an inspiration, I think of you sometimes when I'm running and thinking negatively. I think Janae runs marathons on treadmills for fun!

My b day is March 10 but I'm like the only reader who doesn't have a blog! haha. I'm 24, married, in law school, yet I still sleep with a teddy bear!! I know…I know. haha.In my defense, my hubby gave it to me for V day a few yrs ago and I can't spoon with him all night b/c he gets so hot!! haha

I'm working on protein, too! I am drinking protein shakes like it's my job (adding Greek yogurt), and I eat a TON of quinoa (it cooks like rice, but is way better for you and has LOTS of protein).

My birthday is November 14th and I'll be 28 this year (GAH!). Um yeah and if you do the math… I was a valentine's day baby… HAH.

Hi there girly! My birthday is 10/28.

My biggest childlike characteristic is my sense of humor. I laugh at anything. It could be as corny or cheesy as possible!

I have a couple questions for you I've been wanting to ask.

As I'm uping my miles, I notice I have had more calf cramps during the end of long runs. I've read this can be dehydration or electrolyte embalance. Do you ever get these during your long runs? What do you do for them? Does glutamine help you with this?

How is the glutamine working?

What do you think about the chocolate milk as "recovery" drink? I tried it for the first time last week. Not sure if it made a huge difference but it sure tasted good!

With all the training you do, do you ever get burnt out?

my salads are ALWAYS in huge serving bowls, too! upping your protein is very important. i'm glad to see you are doing this. my question is have you had any running injuries? i just had a bout with plantar fasciitis and it was no fun. my birthday is november 29th!

My birthday is 7/7!

Everything about me is somewhat childlike. I don't feel much like a grown up. I can act like I did when I was 12, but it is cool again. You have to act older from like 13-23 and then you can act like a kid again. ;)

childlike characteristics – besides being tired by 8.00? leaving silly voicemails for the people i love, being able to live on breakfast foods, and cartoons are fun! i feel like i'm younger now (mentally) than i ever was when i was younger, so maybe i'm making up for lost time.

My biggest childlike characteristic is that I hate hate hate getting ready for bed. I want to just be able to go to sleep without having to brush my teeth, wash my face, or take out my contacts. Sometimes I throw a tantrum when my husband makes me floss. :)

I'm childlike in the same ways you are. I have curly hair so I hate to brush it anyway. I love kid movies(Did you see Despicable Me?) I also have the sense of humor of a kid. I still giggle when someone says things like fanny or burps/farts loudly.

My question is how do you keep your energy levels up after a long run or an early morning run? I feel great afterwards but an hour or two later I'm super tired… Do you just go straight to the candy!? haha
