To prove to you how classy I am I will show you how I transported my pb to my apple on the car ride home.   Billy thinks it is unsanitary or something when I use my fingers to scoop out my pb.  Maybe it is because of my crazy long pinky nail of maybe we just need to get separate jars.

I usually have a set of utensil with me at all times just in case but I am not going to lie, BIC pens make a pretty good substitute knife.

As soon as we got home from St. George we were out the door again to hit up a family bday party.

IMG_4434.JPG

The newly turned 19 year old (Happy Bday Brian) chose Brinner for his special dinner.  We all thanked him.  You have to understand that in our family it is kind of a big deal what the bday person chooses for their dinner.  If they make a bad choice, they may not get any presents.

IMG_4450.JPG

Breakfast burritos with 4 servings of guacamole, pineapple, grapes and there was also french toast.  I am pretty sure I only ate breakfast foods all day yesterday and I would not have it any other way.

My brother and his wife are in town from Arizona.  He is at law school at ASU.  Any ASU alumni or students out there?  Billy will be going to law school in a year and hearing about my brother’s school got me thinking about where we will be in a year……scary.

I know this sounds creepy but the cutest baby in the world is my creation.

IMG_4441.JPG

I set my brother and now sister-in-law up on a date and so therefore baby Jace will have to thank me for the rest of his life:)

This other cutest baby in the world takes after me.  I am proud to call her family and hope that she continues in my footsteps as a foodie and lover of all things frosting and sprinkles.  The sad thing is that I did the exact same cupcake eating maneuver (including the sprinkle stuck to my lip) last night but I am too embarrassed to post it.   Using our hands to eat is overrated.

IMG_4466.JPG

I can’t even describe to you how excited I was about the end of my night.  Alex (my running idol) is now my RUNNING COACH. He has coached many people to success and is now guiding me to my goals.  I feel like a million lbs have been lifted off of my back because I now have an expert to help me get to where I want to go.  I am even more sure than ever that I will achieve my dreams.  My first workout starts tomorrow.  I will be going after school to the track to do a speed workout (too dark to go by myself before school).  I have never done a track workout and I am beyond excited.

IMG_4469.JPG

If you have thought about having a coach to focus your energies to reach your goals Alex would be a great way to go. I already feel like I have learned a bajillion things and wondering why I didn’t go to him a lot earlier.  Email me if you would like his contact info.   Alex’s PR’s include 1 mile-4:19, 10 miler-52 minutes, 13.1-1:10, 26.2 in 2:25.

—————————————————————

Take a look at my interview on Stephanie’s blog!!! You will absolutely love her!

Happy Happy Birthday KATIE….go wish her the happiest birthday ever!!!

————————————————————–

What are your ideal breakfast burrito components?

-First the tortilla has to be super soft and warm, then add in eggs, cheese and guacamole and I am the happiest girl alive.

Have you ever set people up on a blind date?  Have you been set up on a blind date?

-The only time I ever set anybody up was my brother and I am retiring with 100% accuracy.  As for blind dates I went on……yeah, I don’t miss those.

Do you have a running coach?  Have you thought of getting one?

-Alex is my first one and I really feel like I now have a plan that is tailored 100% to my needs and goals.  How did I run without this?!?!

Where should we go for Billy’s law school?  Billy and I are leaving the decision completely up to you.

Haha I love the law school question. Somewhere that has all of your favorite restaurants and really awesome running paths :)

Wait it's totally fine, scooping implements are way unnecessary:) Slash that is the CUTEST CHILD I HAVE EVER SEEN!! I do the same thing, no big:)

Slash have him go to law school in upstate new York near meeee! And guac is a necessity, obv.

Reply

Ok is that a pen? So tell Billy there would be no difference scooping with your finger or that pen being your fingers touched it HAHAHA!!!!

No I don't a coach, I'd LOVE to have one but my husband has one and we can't afford to pay for 2. He's a better runner than I am.

Burritos? Eggs, cheese, salsa yum!!!!

Lawschool? I don't know I was a photo major :)

Hey Janae!! You are such an inspiration! I read the interview & I wrote down your quote – Pain is temporary, quitting is forever. I love it! I have to remember that & tell myself that. I think you did great on your race this weekend, whether you think so or not. We are our own worst critics, ya know! Did a 5k this weekend & came in 4th in my age group – the closest I've ever come to placing! And I was 20 secs from 3rd! And instead of being proud of myself for doing so well, I'm beating myself up because I didn't place! Then I remember all you have said before about not beating yourself up & saying positive things to yourself! Thank you for that!

Breakfast burrito…. egg whites, cheese, turkey bacon, green peppers, spinach, salsa sometimes!

No, I've never set anyone up on a blind date.

I don't have a running coach. The closest would be my Run Less, Run Faster book/training plan. It's working awesome! And making me faster!! That's awesome you have him to help! I guess I wouldn't know where to find one.

Have a great day, girly!

Reply

i guess nothing can stop a girl between her and her pb!

i've never set anyone up on a blind date nor have i ever been on one. 100% accuracy? want to come visit me?….just sayin' ;)

When I was in 8th grade I went to basketball camp. We took a mini fridge filled with yogurt and other snacks. But I forgot to bring a spoon, so I ate my yogurt with…my toothbrush. Somewhere, someone has a picture of that.

Bic Pens, straws, nail files….All viable eating utensils in my book:)

"The cutest baby in the world is my creation" That one caught me off guard for a second.

Eggs, black beans, red onions, pico, jalapenos! One blind date-totally erased from my memory. No running coach but AWESOME on yours!!, I have 2 SIL's that went to Law school at Duke but I don't know much.

Reply

"Using our hands to eat is overrated"… that is the CUTEST thing ever!! I've never had a running coach but I think it would be amazing. My little brother just hired a triathlon coach so I'm excited to hear what he thinks of the whole thing…

Reply

i'm going to the track tomorrow!!! i used to be SUPER scared to run on the track, but really, its super confidence-boosting. especially for us "long distance" people. cause we really don't have to run THAT fast (still, its super challenging for me…) and the workout seems to go by so quickly. i'm so happy that the snow is starting to melt and i can get back outside for my track time.

can't wait to hear how it goes :)

Reply

you have NEVER done a track workout????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? Oh…you're going to REALLY kick some booty now! My hardest workouts are the INSANE track workouts Joel makes up for me and have SURELY been key in my quick progress..they usually end up being 10-11 miles total…FUN!!
make sure you post and tell us what you do for your first one!!

My sister went to law school at Wash U in Saint Louis and then transfered to UCLA and loved it, if that's any help. Now she's working at a firm in San Fran.

Apparently Bic pens are really useful. I just used mine to fish my teabag out of my cup.

Reply

p.s…you might want to take a break to properly recover after your half marathon race??? just an idea.I put a tiny bit about that in my post I did up this morning.
your body will progress more quickly if you do.
xo

BIC pens are awesome- I'm going to have to keep that in mind ;)
Your nephew & niece are ADORABLE!! I love that you set your brother & sister in law up- so cool!!
GOOD LUCK with your track workout today- I KNOW you will rock it.

ahh Mike is going to go to Law School after baseball…or maybe even during somehow since baseball is a summer thing! We need to make them go to the same place. Mike already got into some places (wake forest, GW, fordham) but deferred acceptance and will probably apply to other places too. They need to attend the same place that would be so fun! Ahh I love my fantasy land where I get everything I want! haha :) Where is Billy thinking??

I got my running coach 2 weeks before I found out I was pregnant. But I'm excited post-baby to have him give me speed workouts, etc.!

I LOVE those kid pictures! Too cute!! I vote Ole Miss for law school. They have a wonderful law school there, the weather is great and the food is AMAZING. Give it a look.

I always look forward to reading your blog so keep it up! It helps motivate me even when I'm having a blue day!

about law school. beware, the finance person in me is about to come out. without knowing anything i would say, is the investment worth it? in other words, why does he want to go and what does he want to do with the degree. for instance,if he wants to do taxes. i'm all for getting a CPA and law degree. work for deloitte for 2 years and then become a corporate tax attorney. making some bank.law school can cost $80k in tuition. which roughly equals $800/month in student loan payments when he gets out (a.k.a. an extra rent payment).

the best advice i can give you without knowing details is go to the best possible school. the higher ranked the school the easier it is to land a job.

i would love a running coach (and a babysitter). so. ready. to. run.

I had a breakfast burrito after my long run on Saturday and the kitchen became my new bff when they added guacamole to the inside of the burrito. I died of eating pleasure.

I have a triathlon coach and he's pretty much the best thing to happen to my life since guacomole in a breakfast burrito. Can't wait to see how much Alex helps you!

Hi Janae! You probably don't remember me (My parents, the Ainge's lived behind your parents. I think you might have been my sister Brittany's age??) but I remember you! Somehow I stumbled on your blog and LOVE IT! Thanks for being so awesome and really so inspiring. I was thinking about you all Saturday morning :-)

My husband is actually graduating in April from BYU's law school. We are finally done :-) I remember so vividly trying to make the decision where to go. He got into lots of schools all over the country so it was so hard trying to decide where was the best place for our family. We ultimately decided to stay at BYU mostly to stay around family but also because it was SOOOO much cheaper than anywhere else. My husband has really loved it and is so glad he chose here. It has also given him a lot of opportunities to meet and interact with lawyers from Utah, since this is where he wants to practice.

But wherever you choose will be the right place for you guys. You are about to start an exciting three-year adventure! I can't wait to hear where you decide!

Reply

I'm loving all the facetime my husband is getting on your blog. It's so fun to read. It was great seeing you guys last night and a big thanks to Billy for changing the angle on the picture. I'll be attacking our filthy kitchen today in fact. It's numero uno on my list of things to do. Excited about your future little miss and so is Alex. He has no doubts you'll accomplish ALL of your goals. :D

I have a running coach, and it has been great for me! I think you will really like having someone who listens to what you think is lacking and offers suggestions to work on it- its a great thing!

PS. Univeristy of Florida Law School- the best, and no snow here!

Come to Boston!!! We could have so much fun working out and eating at all the amazing restaurants here!

Come to Dallas for Billy's law school! Or anywhere in Texas really, so you can hang out with me and Lindsay Cotter everyday. We can run together and eat Tex-Mex all the time. I could use a running coach. I'm off to run 9 miles right now which seems scary today for some reason…I'm going to think about you and your treadmill marathons and remember that I can do 9 outdoor miles easily! xoxoxoxo

My friends try to set me up all the time with the most random people. It's all a tease though because I get shy and quiet. Once they get to know me, they want to know what happened to the quiet girl. : )
Good job on your race this weekend. I know it wasn't exactly how you wanted it to go, but you're still super awesome! Happy Monday!!

My favorite breakfast burritos are anything I get when I'm in New Mexico for breakfast. Love it all. Guacamole and green chile sauce are a must.

Bud and I were a blind date. We've been together for 9 years so I think it was a hit.

Come to Texas. My bro inlaw just graduated from baylor and loved it. You might die without cafe rio though.

Reply

Yay for your new coach!! :) I need a coach to get me motivated! I have 67 days to my 2nd ever half marathon and im not really doing any training lol… can we say "BUM!"

Reply

Good thing breakfast foods are the best kind and the baby is STUPID cute!!!! Congrats on your new coach, very exciting!

Reply

I think I've already given my 2 cents that he should ditch his law school dreams. The legal field has been slowly collapsing…there are too many lawyers. And most are miserable.

I went to law school in CA, and unless he wants to take the hardest Bar exam in the country once he graduates (it is a 3 day exam), then he should choose to NOT go to law school in CA! I would stay in Utah! Or Colorado. I don't think those states are as saturated with lawyers as CA is.

Congrats on the running coach, that is a huge deal! Rock on

Reply

Yay for having a coach Janae. You have soooo much natural talent..You have only just begun (as you know). I can't wait to see how this helps you grow. getting out there on the track will be so good for you. :) Happy Monday to you sweetness!

What cutie pies the little ones are! Excited you have found a coach–I'm sure you will thrive with one. Being a coach, I of course think they are the bomb!

Reply

Janae!! I just wanted to tell you that I truly think that you had an excellent race experience, although I know it wasn't exactly what you wanted… Be gentle with yourself as you are navigating the whole training/racing thing. Hopefully, you will have a very long career as a runner so be prepared to have highs and lows. You will always learn something and that's the blessing of running!!

I have not considered a coach since my goal is just looong miles and NOT fast. My butt is SLOW, so no coach for me unless they don't mind getting bored :p

Come East to Boston! We have the best of the best law schools here and you can do the marathon every year! Plus I will make you cupcakes whenever you want! Yay!!

Reply

Breakfast burrito—eggs, cheese, salsa, beans, and possibly guacamole, yum!
Never been set up on a blind date but I did the eharmony thing and it's kind of like a blind date but unfortunately I'm still single, so it didn't work lol
I do not have a running coach but it would be nice every now and then to have someone yell at me to push harder (other than the voice inside my head lol)

Reply

I have the perfect running coach – my husband! No… for real, in real life he's a track coach :) So when I don't want to think about what to do for a workout I just call him and say… What should I do today? And he tells me.

I tell him what to eat, its a perfect combo ;)

Boston!! Then we can be real life best friends and you can be in the best marathon city there is!

Obviously breakfast is the best food ever, especially if guac and eggs are involved. That's so exciting you have a coach, good luck on your track workouts! I remember my track coach would always make us run a timed 400 at the beginning of practice and a timed mile after each practice. It was hard, but it definitely helped.
Find a law school in New England area, it's beautiful for running!

Um.. the University of Oregon. Running Mecca would be perfect for you! The Law School is pretty great too… not that I'm biased or anything :)

You'd just have to get use to the grey and raining winters :(

University of Colorado…it's in BOULDER (and I go there so obviously it's a good law school:)

PS then we could be besties and run trails together

You should come to Chicago – then we could have slumber parties and we could feed each other skittles. Then in the morning when we are sugar coma'ed, we could run together – and you'll have to carry me past mile 6 or 7 though.

Two things: Loyola and Tulane both have great law schools and you would live near me thereby turning from sloth to slim in one fell swoop. And yes, I'm normally this selfish.

Second, I wanna chew on that little boy's face. HELLO CUTE CHEEKS.

Reply

I don't have an official running coach, but the past few years I've been running with a couple guys in their 40s who are much faster than I am and have all sorts of wisdom to share. I beat 2 PRs since I started running with them!

Reply

Is Billy graduating next year? I am going to try to move next year, so we should try to coordinate my applications with Billy's. Then I could run behind you and pick up anything that you drop along the way haha.

The only running coaches I had were on track teams growing up.

mmm breakfast burritos, I love tons of veggies in mine as well so goood.

For purely selfish reasons, I'm thinking you should find a law school in or near Tennessee…

Reply

Congrats on the running coach! That is very cool.
I don't have a running coach, but do often email my fave runners for advice :)

My vote goes to ASU obviously, and don't worry about what the law school naysayers wrote cause Billy is going into patent law and that is a totally different market than other lawyers. He'll have a B.S. in electrical engineering, trust me, he is very employable.

Reply

Baylor University Law School! Waco isn't exactly bomb but they have a lot of really good runners which will give you something to do while he is studying his life away :)

Reply

My vote is definitely for ASU! I go to NAU now and am transferring to ASU in the fall because Phoenix is way more fun. A lot of great lawyers have gone to ASU, tons of judges, the mayor of Phoenix, even Tena Campbell, Utah's Woman Lawyer of the year a few years ago :)

Reply

I forgot–Phoenix has great outdoor running weather ALL YEAR ROUND plus an amazing series of running trails :)

Reply

I haven't had a running coach since my high school track team days, but I'm happy running to my own plans. :)

THAT being said, Alex's PRs are amazing! you're gonna be kickass in such capable hands.

Reply

There's a mexican grill inside a gas station near my office that makes the pERFECT breakfast burritos.

First, they deep fry the bacon. Then they add hash browns, a crapton of avocado, black pepper, and green salsa. It is a fiesta of awesome in my mouth. YUMMMMMMMMMMMM

Reply

Come to New York!!!
Billy can study and we can go for runs together in Central Park! :-)

Reply

You should come to Texas so we can be best friends in real life and I don't have to explain why I only know you through the internets.

Reply

That's so exciting that Alex will be your running coach! I bet that will be amazing to work with someone with so much experience and to have a personalized training plan! Good for you!

I think Billy should DEFINITELY go to Harvard Law – then you can run Boston every year, and I'll meet you in the morning for runs along the Charles (which is my favorite place to run – so beautiful and peaceful before all of the busy people crowd the streets). What do you say?

Breakfast burrito – I totally agree that the tortilla needs to be soft and warm. Fill it up with eggs, cheese, avocado, sauteed peppers and onions, and some hashbrowns (grate a potato with a cheese grater and cook on skillet). Yum!!

I have set up friends in the past and most of the time its gone really well in the beginning but then ended in a dramatic break-up, so now I don't mess around with that!

Reply

Campbell Law School in N.C. I'm a 3l here and I love it! I know this will never happen because N.C. is probably way too far away from your adorable family but he would likely get a full scholarship since he is from out of state. Plus the weather is great for running :)

I don't have a running coach, but I am thinking about recruiting my husband. He's fast!

go somewhere in New England! Boston College, maybe? UConn? (I actually have a friend at UConn Law and it's a good choice.) coming from Utah, the weather wouldn't be a shock to the system like it would be for most people, and we could eat ice cream and skittles together while talking about running! do ittttt lol

Reply

You should go to the University of Michigan! :) You can be my friend! Hehe! Not to mention it's a really good law school…

Heck, how about UCBerkeley? Great weather. Top 10 school. Incredible FOOD MECCA! Lots of great places to run… I could even point out some spots for you. I offer to run them with you… but I'd just be slowing ya down ;-)

Having a coach can really help a lot. Looks like you've hooked yourself up with a good one :) Have fun at that track!

I am laughing about your "creation"!! He is adorable!! So many cute babies around you!

I would like Billy to go to law school at the U of Idaho b/c you would be only 8 miles from me! But, I'd rather VISIT you in Cali or Hawaii, does UofH even have a law school? My alma mater Stanford would be a great choice!

Congrats on the coach move! =D I can tell you will be really happy and also be coachable. Yay for alex too!

SO many things I love about this post! I am about to have to scroll up and down 50 times so I can include everything.
1. DYING LAUGHING/so proud of the use to the pen to transport your peanut butter! Desperate times call for desperate measures!
2. I love your gray jacket! Where is it from?
3. Um that burrito looks delicious, I better make that for dinner tonight. Thanks for the idea. :)
4. Billy MUST go to Cambell Law School in Raleigh so we can hang out every day of our lives and go on double dates and then Billy and Jordan can be BFF's just like us. I would probably die of happiness.
Okay. This is all. :)

Agree with Kathleen above re: law school. Go to the best you can get in. Lawyers are a dime a dozen now and the only thing that differentiates you when you graduate is what school you came from. Lawyers at better schools get better jobs. And in this economy, some aren't getting any jobs. I just finished at Stanford and got top notch job offers. Also, the alumni network at better schools will be an advantage for the rest of your career.

Good luck on your running!

my fiance is at University of Iowa School of Law and we LOVE iowa city. it's a tier one school, has an AMAZING wellness center that you would love, and iowa city is very foodie friendly. So, for breakfast burritos it has to be egg, bell pepper, and salsa…I'm craving those a lot lately!

I met my hubby on a blind date….sort of…eHarmony set us up!

I don't have a running coach but will so need one after baby-I think you and Billy should find a loaw school in total proximity to me and then you can coach me! Problem solved:)

That is so cool that he is coaching you – his PRs are amazing! I love track workouts, in fact, I am super sad that I'll miss mine tomorrow due to my lame bronchitis :(. I can only do sweet breakfasts, but I love the idea of breakfast burritos for dinner! I have done horribly in attempting to set people up so I am retiring with 0% accuracy and just happiness that all of my friends have now forgiven me. I don't have a personal coach but I'm in a training group and so I work with a coach, I love having an expert I can email about all my little questions and having a specific training plan to follow! And what's wrong with a pen…in a car ride you have to improvise!

My husband gets mad at me when I eat peanut butter off the spoon/knife and then put it back in the jar…oops. It's not like he isn't exposed to my germs anyway;)

I'm so glad that you found a coach. I really think it will help you to realize your dreams. What happened to the guy who was going to help you from the running store?
Law school: the only place for you is the U. That's all. Seriously. I'll feed you and send you home with leftovers. You can't move far away.

I laughed at your pen "spoon". My best one was eating tiramsu with a coffee stirrer in a hotel in Chicago. It looked heavenly and I really wanted to eat it. untesils are optional!
