Today as I tripped and fell in the hallway for no apparent reason, I realized I really am one of those awkward people.  For so long I have tried to deny it but I have finally come to the realization that I was born this way and God made me this way so that people could feel better about themselves and have someone to laugh at.  So here are some of the reasons I am extremely awkward.

-People are constantly telling me I have food on my face or in my teeth.  I spill some sort of food on me every. single. day.

IMG_0465.JPG

-I love dancing.  I have never taken a dance class but I will dance anywhere and anytime there is music playing.  I am the sweaty person that you see dancing that thinks they are really good and that is why everyone is looking at them because they are so awesome but in reality they are watching because they wonder if I know how bad I am at dancing.  Plus, I think my awkward sweaty ponytails every day of my life cause a few awkward moments for some.

IMG_0891.JPG

-I make weird facial expressions and awkward body movements when I am concentrating on something (like when throwing a football, at least I put some gnarly spin on that ball).

DSC_3134.JPG

-I take pictures of my food.  Like a lot of them.  If you think about that….that is really weird.

mail.jpeg

-Yeah, the picture speaks for itself.

IMG_0997.JPG

-At restaurants or ice cream parlors I take 20 minutes to decide what I want.  I take these things seriously and I can’t make the wrong decision.  The people working there think I am crazy sauce for the amount of samples I have to have and the amount of questions I ask them about everything on the menu.

IMG_1098 5.jpg

-I make faces that look like I am about 21 seconds from actually dying, I think that it makes everyone around me feel awkward.

DSC_4225.JPG

But at least billy is awkward at times too.

————————————————————————–

Tell me about some of the awkward things you do?  Please.  I won’t tell anyone I promise.

Do you like sour candy?

-Love.  A student shared their sour worms after lunch today.  A+ for that student.

Do you make weird facial expressions when you run or play sports?

-I stick my tongue out a lot and the last 5 miles of marathons I suddenly look like death.

ahhhh and I didn't even end up being 1st!

OMG! You crack me up! :) When I run races I make LOTS of noises…like grunts, groans and so forth. I also tend to yell out random profanities :) My husband thought I was dying at the end of one race because he could hear me grunting and groaning from a half mile away :) LOL!

Reply

I run into walls, desks, chairs, all the time. My office at work has had the exact same configuration for 5 years, and I still, at least once a week, run into the corner of my desk. How is this possible??

Reply

I'm not much of a sour candy person. I don't hate it, but I don't eat much.

I too am awkward or I guess clumsy. I get lots of bruises for running into things!

I don't think I make faces but I may…what I do that's quite embarassing when I think about it, though, is sing silently to my iPod and sometimes have to move my arms to the music while running outside and on the TM…I know – I'm weird….but it keeps me going! :)

Reply

I am akward and clumsy. And if I stub my toe I'll blame someone else even if they're not in the house. Like *Dang it RYAN!* What's up with that?

Also…can I please state for the record that whenever you put *sauce* after a word I can't stop laughing. crazy sauce haha

Reply

Same here…awkward galore. Mostly with how often I stick my food in my mouth. I always say the things that I'm thinking and my filter usually is very slow to work properly. My husband just laughs but I make a fool out of myself often!

Reply

Love sour candy!! It ranks right up there with chocolate!

I am totally awkward. I say the most bizarre and random thing, which I can't think of anything at the moment. I also make weird faces when taking pictures and while having conversations. Looking back at those pictures I always think "ugh, what is wrong with me?" haha.

Reply

I dance in elevators when no one is around, except i forget that people can get in and out on other floors than the ones i'm going to.

I laugh at everything, even not funny things.

I made some really gnarly faces when i used to play lacrosse. I dreaded reading the local paper because the pictures they'd get were so bad. I'm sure playing frisbee i make silly faces as well.

Reply

Samesies. I can't help but break out into random dancing somedays. and I never have good running pictures because of my faces. I am also the clumsiest person, and have a scar from stitches near my eye from falling and hitting the corner of the lunch table when I was in 2nd grade.

Reply

I run into everything, and trip over my own feet at least once a day. I'm like a toddler still learning to walk….at 24. :)

Reply

I got a papercut on my lip from licking an envelope.

Need I say more?

Love awkwardness, love it! I subscribe, and so are my son and husband. Good times in our household!

Reply

Awwww…you're too cute to be marred by your awkwardness!
I miss doorways…leads to bruised shoulders. And I am socially VERY awkward.
Sour candy is alright but not a fave.
I have the amazing deadpan or poker face when physically exerting myself. Used to annoy my coaches and teammates in a way. It looks like I'm out for a meditative stroll. (Except when I go out over a min/mile too fast…lol)

Reply

oh my gosh. my awkwardness is terrible. i too always have stains and i ALWAYS ask for samples when i go into golden spoon even though i've tried every flavor 37,000 times.

my big awkward thing is that i always forget to rip the tags off of clothes and thus my boyfriend is constantly ripping tags off for me, like in the middle of church. classy.

if you ever go to columbus, oh, you need to go to jeni's ice cream. it is hands down the best ice cream i have ever had in the world. they have all sorts of gourmet/weird flavors but their regular flavors are fab as well.

Reply

IN all my race photos I look like I am dying. And in all my college bball photos I have my tongue sticking out of the side of my mouth. Whenever I concentrate I bit my tongue on the right side of my mouth. Brian catches me doing it all time.

Reply

Hahaha – love all these pictures. A lady caught me plucking my eyebrows in the car today. At least I wasn't picking my nose. ;)

I LOVE sour candy but don't eat it as much as I used to. I could probably use a good sour patch roof-of-the-mouth-burn soon.

When I'm running in really cold weather, I have a terribly awkward face that comes from taking deep breaths. If I were a singer, I'd probably be one who made ugly faces, too.

Reply

I am awkward too. I won't offer you a numbered list … just take my word.

Sour candy = yummy

Reply

I was terrified when looking at the pictures of myself during the final stretch of my half marathon. I looked like I was about to keel over and die.

Love sour candy! But I only like certain colors. For the gummy worms I just like the red and blue, so if one is half red and half orange or yellow, or half blue and half orange or yellow I'll eat the red or blue half and throw away the rest.

Awkward – I check my nose in the reflection of my cell phone if I suspect anything might be… well.. there. I run into stuff quite often, and I swear I have no control of my facial expressions because people always say I look mad/disgusted/annoyed/etc when I swear I'm not!

AND what is on the TV behind Billy? I'm trying to figure it out, because it looks like the staircase from Boy Meets World, but I have no idea who that guy is. Unless it's George Lopez?

Reply

My presence is just awkward lol – not to mention I laugh at all the wrong times- for example, every time I get pulled over I'm just so nervous I laugh. I just can't help it! I also have a really hard time hiding my reaction to things because my facial expression says it ALL (which makes for really awkward moments).

Sour candy is my favoriteeeee!

During sports I look like a crazy person because I constantly bite the insides of my lips.

Reply

Sometimes when I read your blog, like this one… I feel like I do the exact same things. I always have food on me and in my teeth, and I fall all the time, and I am so akward and weird!!! You are such a goober and I love it!

Reply

I love all candy.

Awkward. Sometimes when my boyfriend and I are walking up stairs (usually in our apartment building, but sometimes in public places) I moon him. I always check for spectators first.

Can't believe I said that out loud.

I also once slipped on the icy stairs coming out of my apartment. Slid down 8 steps on my butt-boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom…I had 3 lucky spectators. And a big BIG bruise on the butt.

Reply

I fall all the time while running and have some pretty nasty scars to show from it.

My race photos are always hideous because of the faces I make (either in pain, totally zoned out, or tongue out concentrating).

Reply

This post totally had me laughing out loud from my work desk. Thank you!!!! I needed a little pick-me-up.

I love sour candy and I honestly don't know what I look like when I do sports. I'm going to pay attention and report back.

Reply

awkward things I do:
– any time I wear a baseball cap, I hit my head on a tree branch. it doesn't matter if there's only one branch in a 20 mile radius, I WILL hit my head on it. no, really. it's proven.
– I also make super awkward "focused" faces, and when I'm really focusing on a treadmill, I close my eyes. but I continue to dance while my eyes are closed. so when I open my eyes, there are usually people staring at me – trying to figure out if I'm ok.
– I always carry tweezers on me, and will randomly tweeze my eyebrows ANYWHERE. in my car, at the gym, at school, it doesn't matter. I used to try to make sure no one saw me doing it, but I stopped caring. which mean I'm officially obsessive about it.
– I also take pictures of my food, and it REALLY IS awkward. especially when people call you out on it.
– lastly (not the last awkward thing I do, but last I can think of right now) whenever I'm doing a super serious workout, I get sweat in my ears (because my head sweats like nobody's business and it trickles down from the hair). I have to take out my earbuds while biking or running and wipe out my ears and my earbuds. when I was doing this yesterday while running, I lost one of my rubber earbud covers. I'm devastated. I'll run with a broken toe but I won't run on a treadmill without music!!

Reply

haha, I stick my tongue out when concentrating and especially when running. I've got some very prize race pics to prove it.

Reply

No one EVER asks me what I'm thinking because it's written on my face. I never spill on myself unless I'm at an important dinner (almost every bite when I met my boyfriend's dad for the first time). I ALSO tweeze my eyebrows in the car. Sunlight is the best light to do it in!

I love sour candy. Or sweet candy. Or chocolate candy. Or any candy really.

I've just started taking pictures of everything since I started blogging and the people around me (ie: gym) look at me like I'm crazy. I either need an iPhone 4 with a better camera or to start bringing my real camera with me more often!

Reply

I love sour candy! Sour gummy worms (but only the red and blue ones), sweet tarts, shock tarts, war heads (remember those), etc! So yuummmmy.

I probably look like I'm dying whenever I workout, or even do anything strenuous, like moving…

I love sour candy!!! All forms of candy for that matter. We would get along great.

this was pretty much amazing. i guarantee i am one of your most awkward (blog) friends…who secretly wishes i was one of your most awkward in real life friends..but seriously yeah people think i'm such a "cute dork" bc i make strange faces and cannot control my movements. haha xoxo

Reply

I am SO CLUMSY. I take a blood thinner, and this makes me bruise more than the average bear. So, like I have had people ask me if I needed help with my home life. They thought I was being abused!! No no no no no. I walk into walls all on my own thank you. And desks. And yes, I really do walk into doors. Especially early in the morning when I haven't put my glasses on yet.

I don't really play sports, so I'm not sure about the funny faces…according to Jason I do make strange expressions when I'm reading. I think I am maybe expressing what I'm reading?? LOL

When I lifted weights regularly, I was always afraid I would sound like the scary guys in the weight room, so I always tried to be really really quiet. Didn't want to sound like Miss Piggy doing curls.

Candy. CANDY!!! I love candy. Sour candy is amazing. Giant Chewy Sweet Tarts are one of my FAVS. Jason rations me when he sees me breaking into them. I get really really insane sugar highs and I think he is concerned for my safety at that point. Ha! I turn into the Bubba Gump of candy when we go to the candy store. I start rattling off candy combinations like Bubba's shrimp dishes until Jason has finally reached the limits of his capacity for public embarrassment and he drags me out of the store.

Reply

I trip over stuff ALL the time. Chairs that arent pushed in are an accident waiting to happen for me. Usually I get lucky and hit something else on my way down. I can be pretty clumsy.
You make me want to eat candy EVERY day. Thanks.

Reply

i literally have a huge bruise on my hip from falling trying to walk UP a set of stairs. awesome.

sour candy is the way to GO! love it!

Reply

ummmmm can i raise my hand if i'm incredibly awkward too? because both hands are up right now! as athletic as i am i trip all the freaking time. graceful? not me.

Reply

You are so funny – I am awkward too and totally don't care what others think about it! :)

Reply

Your comments and pictures are a riot. I was giggling the whole time.
I make weird expression all the time but don't have many pics to prove it.

Reply

I take so many samples that I don't even need to buy a whole cone but I love frozen desserts so I do anyways:)

Slash I make THE most awkward faces without realizing it, and for some reason always have food in my hair/on my shirt? Double slash when I drink out of my water bottle I drink through the side of my mouth so it looks like I am a gerbil.

Reply

One of my students figured out my kryptonite…Sour Straws. My absolute FAVORITE!

Reply

I'm a spas. I run into things all the time. I have odd bruises all over that I don't even remember how I got them because it's such a common occurrence. I tripped during my second marathon about 3 blocks from the finish line. I tripped in the church halls once. I am a klutz.
Love sour patch kids!
I love all your pictures!

Reply

Oh my…I am very awkward. I am awkward sometimes at talking in real life, especially to strangers. I am clumsy and I fall over all the time too. My best fall was during my first marathon when I tripped over nothing, fell head over heels, scraping my face, knee, elbow, both hands and ribs right in front of a huge crowd of volunteers, other runners and elderly spectators watching from the balconies of a retirement home. Ugh. At least I never stopped moving forward! I get the hiccups all the time and they're so loud and scary people always run to my rescue. To top all of that off, I have reactive redness – and blushing all the time turns not awkward into awkward rather quickly.

Thanks for your awesome comment, by the way :)

Reply

i make some brutal faces while running too!!! i also love sour candy… mmmmmm sour skittles are delicious!

Reply

Don't feel bad, I'm a huge klutz. I got my ipod earbuds stuck in the stairmaster today and had to get help to get them out lol. I love sour worms! I always get a super concentrated in the zone look while running

Reply

I used to sing in a rock band and one time I decided to try to play the drums (which is wicked hard). Turns out when I concentrate that hard I stick my tongue out of the side of my mouth. I was the only girl in the band and the guys gave me serious hell for that…Although, they also gave me serious hell for nearly everything.

Sour candy = not exactly my thing. Chocolate is my thing.

Reply

ha i'm totally like you when going out for ice cream. i've actually been yelled at before by workers who won't let me have any more samples!!!!

Reply

Yep, I'm totally awkward but I was hoping it wouldn't transcend the internet!
Love sour candy, it's awesome that your students support your habit. I can't order any race photos because the faces I make are too heinous… like I'm about to die or sitting on the toilet. Btw, I did a three tangent thursday post! a little late on that.

Reply

You totally crack me up! I am definitely a sour candy girl. Sour patch kids, nerds, sweetarts…yeah throw them my way! :) As far as weird expressions go…I won best "Showmanship" for my dance team in high school. Which basically meant I made the most crazy dance faces when we performed. My sister was a freshman when I was a senior and she said she was embarrassed of me when I made so many faces! hahahaha! It makes me laugh hysterically now, 10 years later. :)
Love your posts by the way. Being weird and awkward is where its at!

Reply

Haha and this is why were secretly best friends. You just might not know it yet… awkward

Im incapable of smiling in pictures, i always make a ridiculous facial expression.

Reply

My hands do crazy things when I do any sport. I usually let all my tension there and they look like crazy witch fingers. I will never forget my dance teacher telling me in high school while we were doing tap that I looked like I was holding hot dogs. Just imagine my cupped hands. What a goober!

Reply

Mmm, sour worms. I make all sorts of crazy faces! They're so fun!

Reply

I looooove sour candy! I also love that you drive food sellers crazy with your questions. Hello! If you've never been there before you HAVE to. Thank you for making me feel like it is okay for me to do those awkward things too, haha.

Reply

I have pain face in all my races. So attractive. Love sour anything :) Oh, and I photograph food nonstop and mobile upload it on Facebook. I figure people in restaurants must think I'm an uber important food blogger or something!

Reply

I loved this post! I don't think I make funny faces…but people always tell me my arms look really funny when I run! Hehe…so I can kinda relate! And sour candy is good-but I am totally more of a chocolate girl! :)

Reply

I trip on carpet monsters all the time – except we don't have any carpet in the house! :)

And I love sour candy! YUMMO

Reply

Wow I just posted this huge long comment and then my freaking internet kicked me off!!
Love awkward people and being awkward! I am awkward when I river dance for my students and tape quarters to the bottom of my shoes so they sound like tap shoes. I move my legs really fast and I break it down. Also, while my b-ball girls are warming up for practice I walk around their bags to find the most obscure shoes and wear them around practice while busting out dance moves.
I most definitely make weird faces in sports. I had the nastiest pictures EVER in the newspaper in high school from picture. Every single one I looked like a mix of a man/Shrek/80 year old person. My face would wrinkle in ways I did not think possible and my mouth was always wide open like M. Jordan! I never got asked out on dates…
I do NOT like sour candy. I think it's gross. Give me chocolate!
So I don't know if you got my text today, but if you did not just know I did not ignore you!! I am super sore today and my calves hurt so bad. I am so PATHETIC! And I only ran 2.2 miles. That's like your warm up. I have never been this out of shape and it's so depressing! But it felt good to move again!!
Well dear love ya!! Tomorrow is the weekend! :)

Reply

Sour candy is the BEST!!!! My awkward thing would have to be tripping, today I think I have tripped 3 or 4 times!!! I am not a tall or big person and I have size 9.5 feet yes it leads to me tripping all the time!! I

Reply

i don't know that i make faces when i run, but i know i look like a waddling penguin when i do. drives me crazy that i can't lengthen my stride. ARG!

Reply

Even if awkward, you are adorable! I"m not agreeing that you're actually awkward though.

Yes, I make weird, contorted faces all the time. Running, biking, explaining something, probably even in my sleep. I really have to concentrate to smile normally in a picture – it's awkward.

I like sour candy A LOT. But not if it means passing up chocolate. That is just wrong.

Just a few of the awkward things I do: Sing along to my iPod on the tready at the gym and when I'm riding my bike trainer, no matter that there are others around. Take pictures of my painted toes, I have no idea why. I like to do this on other people's cameras w/o telling them.

Reply

If it makes you feel better, I got nominated the most clumsy person in my tri squad at Christmas time.
I didn't even realise how clumsy I was (I have only trainer with them for 6 months and I've fractured my foot twice and broken my hand… none of them stopped me!) until they mentioned it all in a block like that!!

Reply

Well, ou could have Bill do a "connec he dos" wih our bruises. ha's some free enerainmen :)

I loved ha pic of ou digging in or nosril!! Did ou find some reasure in here worh keeping? hehe!

You put a smile so big on my face I could put a banana there sideways!!! :)

I sing aloud when I run. I love sour candy!! My favorite are zours…have you ever tried those? They are the best oh…and trollies (the ones that look like spiders or octopus…) I make serious faces when I run (zoned out expressions…) I'm the same at self-serve yogurt shops. It takes me forever sometimes to figure out what I want. I love to sample…especially at Costco!! (they had steak and cheese flauta samples tonite! Yummm…)

love the pictures you shared!! have a good evening Janae!! :) xo

Reply

Ha! I actually laughed out loud at both the football and the marathon pics! (I'm allowed to laugh because I'm sure I have about 10,000 pics that are much worse.) If I tried to run as fast as you do I would probably actually die about 21 seconds IN!

Reply

Hahahah…You are so funny!! I love the last picture where you are about to die on your run! You still look perfect!!
I always stick out my tongue, when I clean, when I color, when I am concentrating hard, haha.
Thanks for the best comment ever today!! Your comments make my day!!

You are my inspiration!! :) I hope thats not creepy!!

I LOVE CANDY!! any kind, anytime!! I wish I had skittles right now!
Thanks for making my mornings better with your fabulousness…is that a word. haha

Reply

Hey, I recognize that 80"s t-shirt, wish I still had mine! We looked so hot on 80's day in High school. You have to see Bryce's face when he swims, it is truly one of the funniest things I have ever seen. He uses his lips to block his nose. It's kinda crazy!!

Reply

Hahaha – I am also the awkward dancing person. But I so don't care! It's fun to 'dance like no one is watching you,' right? :-)
I love sour candy… sour patch kids are where it's at. Also, the sour cherry balls.

Reply

Everything I do is so abysmally awkward that it's hard to pinpoint anything.
I always trip over my feet. Always. Perpetually have bruises and scratches and the left toe of most of my shoes is kind of dismantled (I htink my left leg may be slightly longer…)

I kind of like sour candy, but I odn't really like candy anymore (I hope we can still be friends, thsi means more candy for you, you see?!)

Reply

oh, also, my typical greeting for some of my closer friends is to just stick my tongue out at them or purposely make ridiculous faces.

it's hotttt

Reply

I am awkward for all of your reasons! I got caught crazy dancing in the gym changing room the other day when I thought I was alone…

Also I almost ALWAYS sing/lip-sing when I run, because I love a good TUNE! Not sure the people around me would agree though! :P

Janae, YOU are clearly HOT SAUCE.

Reply

I just fell off my chair, but is was because I was laughing at your awkwardness. My son is so crazy about sour candy it never makes it to anyone else.

Reply

A bag of Sour Patch Kids … Yes. Please. I love, love, love sour candy.

I'm sure I make funny faces when I run but I doubt I scare people. They're too distracted by random grunts or screams coming from my mouth to release tension.

Reply

Yesterday I hit a wooden pole when I was putting on my jacket and apologized to it (not realizing it was a pole) in front of my boss and coworker…I'd say that qualifies as awkward

Reply

I trip for no reason, too. I say "you, too" at inappropriate times (like when a waitress says "enjoy your meal").

Reply

Being ackward is what makes us so cool

I drool while I bike as hard as I can, I call it frothing at the mouth

Reply

I trip over nothing a lot. I try to be funny by pointing to the ground and saying "have that removed"…that gets awkward when someone stops to figure out what you're talking about.

Reply

Hi Janae! I just wanted to say that you will be surprised that a little strength trainin goes a long way so even a little bit added is great! Have you done any yoga? I'm finding that it really stretches me out and I think it's helping my running. Hope you have a great day!! :D

Reply

I can't tell you the amount of pictures I have of me playing soccer making the weirdest faces ever. And my hands…I don't know what to do with my hands…they are always contorted in some weird way. Don't worry, you are not alone in your awkwardness :)

Reply

Way to go with your strength training! I have got to get back into it too. I really can't just stand there and make myself do it though. I need a written plan or a video to go along with the workout. I did 2 rounds of P90X and 2 rounds of Insanity in the past two years. It was easier to really push it out when I was focused on what the people on the tv were doing.

I love sour candy! It's my favorite second to the candy combination of PB & chocolate.

Just last week some people were commenting on how I make this crazy intense face when I do my Taekwondo forms. It's serious business and needs a serious butt kicking kind of face.

Reply

I am super awkward in pretty much everything I do. I don't even want to start a list.

Reply

Oh…please…everything I do and all the faces I make are uber-awkward.

Reply

Bahahahaha!! I love your facial expressions!!!!! My favorite is your running pic…you speed machine you!!! LOVE IT!

You and Billy were destined for each other!!

Reply

omg. my list of awkward things is way too long for this blog. WAY TOO LONG. i wipe my nose on my shoulder when i run. i make a scary grunting noise during the end of races, it makes people move away from me. i put more ride glide on in front of other people and then don't wash my hands. i really don't shower enough. if little kids stare at me in the locker room I STARE BACK. i pick my toenail polish. i blow my nose really loudly, like an elephant. i say "YOUR MOM" way too often. even my dog is awkward, he likes to eat his eye boogers. guh.

Reply

p.s. this list could be much longer but i have to go pick a wedgie and fall down the steps somewhere.

Reply

I love that I laugh out loud (truly) when I read your blog. It makes me happy! Yes, I am awkward. I can't think of any examples, but I know that I am. I love sour candy! It's AWESOME. And yeah, I make weird facial expressions, especially when I'm running, but I do watch out for cameras so I don't get horrible race pics :)

Reply

Hey, I'm awkward, too! I can't even really describe it, it's just the perfect storm of lack of coordination and odd social quirks.
I don't make a strange face when I run so much as it just turns bright red. I could only do 3 miles on a perfect, wind free, comfortable day, and my face goes as beet-colored as if I just ran a marathon in 100 degree weather. And, I always look like I'm giving thumbs ups to everyone. That's just how my hands relax naturally, it's the strangest thing.
(And, I know you're having your surgery as I post this, so I'm keeping the good vibes going for you!)

Reply

Hi there, I'm new to your blog and I just had to tell you that this post literally made me LOL! Like, tears streaming down the face, stomach cramps, LOL! My husband ran into the room to ask me what was so funny. Love it! :)
