How do I have so much energy.

I didn’t have internet all day…..it hurt.  Sorry I was absent from blog land today, I will be back in action starting now.  P.S. I LOVED all of the engagement stories….I got the biggest goosebumps with all of them, thank you for sharing with me.

Workout:

-30 minutes stair climber.  Burn baby burn.

-My new spin 6 a.m. class.  So fun….love my classes, those girls are hardcore and I love making new friends.

-15 minutes elliptical.

-10 minutes weights……..baby steps, maybe next week I will upgrade to the 5 lb weights ha.

I was absolutely starving this morning and my usual oatmeal wasn’t going to cut it. I needed bulk and cheese obviously.

I may have snuck to Subway during my prep period.  Best decision I have made this week and I had the exact amount left on my gift card.  Double Score.

Nothing like jalepeno breath at 8 a.m.

—————————————————————-

I get the question about how I have so much energy a lot so I thought I would fill you in on my ADD tendencies, without actually having ADD (I think at least) lifestyle.

-First, and foremost…….I highlight the busy parts of my day on the blog.  I think it would be boring to read if I told you about the fact I watched 3 hours straight of The Bachelor yesterday or the fact that I took a cat nap under my desk after school today.  I really do have a lot of downtown too but usually I would rather be running:)

IMG_1709.JPG

1.  The more I exercise, the more energy I have.  I don’t know the exact reasons why, but it works.  On Sunday’s (my rest day) I spend 94.6% of the day on the couch, only getting up for church and food.  I feel exhausted all day because I don’t get my morning sweat on….but I know my body needs it.

photo-4.jpg

2.  I quit caffeine a year and a half ago and I really think this helped with my energy levels.  I pretty much had a portable IV of Diet Coke running into my veins at all times.  Sure I felt a little kick from it every know and then but I always had the caffeine crash and it made me SO tired.  So, yep, you guessed it….no coffee, no soda, nothing.  I do take a no doze (caffeine pill before my marathons and boy does it work because my body is not used to caffeine).

3.  Of course the more ice cream I eat the more energy I have but you all knew that.  But seriously, I eat often throughout the day, most of it nutritious, some of it not.  I think finding a healthy balance of the two gives me plenty of energy to get through the day.

The End 31.jpg

4.  I am a big believer that our PERCEPTION (the way we view the world and ourselves) plays a huge role in our energy levels.  The more I tell myself that I am a happy and energetic person the more I am.  The more I perceive that exercise/running is fun and like the coolest thing that our bodies can handle such amazing things….the more energy and love I have for being active.

IMG_0619.JPG

5.  We only have one life and I don’t want to waste it by complaining that I am always tired and life will be so much better when blah blah blah happens.  So, why not take advantage of our life and live everyday to the fullest?!?!?!

Wedding-6307.jpg

In the words of Bob from ‘What About Bob’ just recite this when you don’t feel so great….

“I feel great, I feel good, I feel wonderful.”

————————————————————————————–

Have you ever seen What About Bob…….it is a classic.

What do you do when you are low on energy to get more energy?!?!

-Exercise really is the best way for me to get some more of the good stuff.  A little something else always works too he he he.

Do you eat out for breakfast?

-When we are on vacation I LOVE to, but we never ever do when we are at home….today was a little treat to tell myself I am awesome ha:)

What About Bob! Yes! I used to watch that movie all the time when i was younger. :)

There is a great breakfast place here that we go to on the weekends. Spinach, tomato & spicy feta cheese omelet, country potatoes and english muffin (hold the butter). Nom nom nom.

I love your positive attitude about everything! Good for you giving up caffeine! I wish I could…

Breakfast is my favorite meal to eat somewhere else, because it means I can get bacon. I'm not allowed to cook bacon at home, unless it's for a specific recipe, because I WILL eat it all. I ate a pound in one sitting the first year I lived on my own. Whoa.

Great post! I feel so good when I workout that I just don't take rest days. LOL.

LOVE what about bob! baby steps. I have the problem if I exercise to late in the day I can't sleep… morning is best because I can wind down through the day.

I had the same problem (addiction) with caffeine, it made me so tired, so I'd drink more LOL. I felt like life was passing me by.

yay for energy. and i didn't have internet all day yesterday. surprisingly i felt refreshed although it was darn good to get back online today hahah

AWESOME post! I love #4 and #5. And I agree that I have much higher energy levels on days when I workout. Mentally and physically, I'm just in a much better place! I'm not a napper. It's so, so rare for me to take a nap, but in those rare instances, it can make a difference in my energy. I always cook breakfast at home but I enjoy new breakfast/brunch places when I'm traveling.

Your posts are so inspiring! I love it!!

I can't get enough of your wedding pictures, they are SOOOOO beautiful!

I also feel better in EVERY way on days I exercise. :)

I eat breakfast where I eat all of my meals…. the Galley. Lol. But only 2 more months! TWO MORE MONTHS!!!

What about Bob is one of my favorites! For quite a few years, we watched it Thanksgiving evening when we were all gathered at my G'ma's.

I definitely have more energy when I wake myself up using healthy foods and exercise rather than caffeine. I used to live off of coffee and I noticed such a huge difference in my energy when I *stopped* drinking it.

I wish I could go out to breakfast more but I really only get to when I go home to visit my parents. Brunch = delicious though.

Reply

I love reading your posts! It gives me hope that I can have a balanced life as a teacher.
I love to eat out and have breakfast for lunch or supper but even when I'm traveling I still like to have a leisurely breakfast while doing my devotions (brunch isn't out of the question though)

AMEN to the outlook on life lady! I definitely feel like exercising give me MORE energy. You & Billster look sooo happy to be married in that picture!

Reply

I love this post! I too find that when I excercise I have TONS more energy, feel better, happier, like I can kick some ass.

I almost NEVER eat breakfast out, between the job and my funky belly I don't like to risk it (nothing like greasy AM food to send me straight to the bathroom for the rest of the day. TMI!!) Your sandwich looks terrific though and I could totally eat that with no issue. Bring on the hot peppers!

Reply

We own a massage therapy clinic RIGHT ABOVE the most scumptious bagel shop and its sooooo hard not to eat there every day.

Definitely work it out to get the energy. Like right now….i reallly dont wanna do it but i know i'll feel awesome after and have dreams of huge cupcakes and brownie sundaes!!! ;)

I quit Diet Coke about a month ago and I cannot believe how much better I feel!

I love your comment about perception…I could not agree more!

Great post! I love your attitude and your pictures are great!

This is just what I needed today! I have been down in the dumps this week and feeling sorry for myself, but this post reminded me how much a positive attitude can change our outlook on life.

You make caffeine-free life sound so GREAT but I just don't think I am ready to let go of my coffee addiction.

I think it's funny that people think I have SO much energy, I've even been asked, "Do you ever get tired" and often "how many cups of coffee have you had today?" and I am always thinking "What!? I am tired!" I guess I appear to be constantly energized but I have that caffeine crash like you explained.

Are you at Costco in that picture? I used to LOVE eating the soft-serve fro-yo there. Mmmm. Ikea has great ice-cream cones too! Oh the random places you can find ice cream.

Reply

Rest days are the ones where I feel most tired and hmmm what is the proper word…bitchy..sorry :( poor Bill sometimes he asks "arent you going to the gym today?"

breakfast…Special K cereal + Latte every day
Coffee is the ONLY thing I have not given up since getting sick and loosing 70 + lbs

I have never seen what about bob, but now that i'm basically on the couch through tomorrow I might as well take the opportunity!

Slash girl I love you. Every single one of your reasons are the same reasons I have so much energy every day! Love lifeeee girl:)

I LOVE reading your blog everyday! (And viewing pictures of delicious foods!! :) I especially liked your point about perception playing a role in our energy levels!

Can I tell you that your blog makes me happy..I mean really happy. It is such a refreshing break from my life. I too love ice cream. My first job was at an ice cream parlor and it was deadly. IS that picture of you at Costco eating ice cream? Heaven on Earth Costco, followed closely behind by Target, Homegoods and Whole Foods…put my in a happy place the second I walk through the door. What About Bob is FANTASTIC! it makes me chuckle just thinking about it right now. I drink a lot of unsweetened iced tea…it keeps my energy up. Exercising too. We do eat out for breakfast on the weekends occasionally. Breakfast is a quick meal that my boys will actually sit through and we won't leave the table with indigestion, not to mention my husband works nights so we don't go out to dinner ever. We have a lot of great places here too..I like to sit outside for breakfast. It is my husband and my dream to open up a breakfast place since we are both Chef's…hope your day is great

This was so what I needed to hear right now. I'm inexplicably very down today, and I really needed to read something filled with positive energy! good thing you have plenty :)

I LOVE "What About Bob" It's mine and my dad's favorite movie :)

I only eat our for breakfast if we're on vacation most of the time I eat at home!

TO get energy, I workout :) and eat yummy nutrious food also frozen yogurt and swedish fish do the trick! ;)

Reply

I love subway breakfast sandwiches, if i'm out at a tournament they are like the perfect food!

I also really love eating breakfast out, but don't do it that often. Its a special treat. I think my half marathon training motivation will be pancakes. We have a pancake house next to my new building at work. So I'm thinking morning runs followed by pancakes may be in order some point in the near future.

I totally agree with you exercise and being active gives me energy. Sun also does too, too bad I live in Seattle where it rains a lot. But in the summer I just go go go. I think sometimes i'm solar powered.

Reply

Uuuummmm, hi. I love 'What About Bob?' One of my all-time favorite movies.

“I’m baby-steppin’, I’m doin’ the work, I’m not a slacker! Check it out I’m in really bad shape! Gimme, gimme, gimme – I need, I need, I need, gimme, gimme, gimme…”

Amazing. And I TOTALLY agree that exercise gives you energy. I draaaaag on my rest days but I know my body needs it and it makes my next run phenom…

I am just like you! EXERCISE gives me the most energy. :) And water…lots of water throughout the day. I love your outlook on life. It's inspiring. :)

Wonderful, motivating and truthful post! Thanks for being so inspiring and for sharing it with all of your readers. You are a beautiful person!

Reply

Like everyone before me, I love this post! I quit caffeine this past summer… best decision ever. Exercise is a big pick-me-up for me, as is music (nothing gets me goin' like prancing around me kitchen with spatula for my microphone, hahahaha).

Reply

Exercise gives me so much energy! I was snowboarding the past 3 days for 6-8 hours, and somehow I always had energy to keep going the next day. Going to bed at 9 probably helped too.

Reply

I gave up caffeine a while back too and have definitely noticed a change in my energy and even sleep! When I'm low energy, I definitely get moving in some way.

Heart breakfast out when on vacation too, and love the occasional brunch out. I love me some pancakes!

Reply

You are wonderful! I have really been contemplating giving up caffeine and think I'm going to get serious about tappering off. I make my breakfast at home everyday, it just seems so expensive for something I could do better for cheaper at home. I have seen What About Bob, but not for years, I think I will rent it this weekend. I'm also going to print that motto and put it on my bathroom mirror and treadmill "I feel good, I feel great, I feel wonderful"!!!

Reply

I don't know if I could ever give up my bean!!!! I love the movie What about Bob!!!! No we rarely eat out for breakfast or anything at all. Occasionally hubs and I go out for dinner alone

Reply

I love how big your smile is in all these pictures! Especially the one on your wedding day–you look SO happy!!

Reply

I HAVE to exercise to get energy, have to!! I am so, so much more productive when I workout. Furthermore high intensity sweat sessions work the best!

Reply

You're too cute – my blog would be boring too if I told you my butt is on the couch at 7 every night until I go to bed. Oh well! :)

I always have more energy on the mornings I work out even though I'm up earlier! I just feel BETTER during the day!

Reply

My family LOVES What About Bob! I've probably seen it 100 times. I love the dinner scene when he won't stop "mmMMMmmm"-ing over how good the food is. I eat breakfast out on vacation when there's a cool breakfast place I really want to try. When I'm at college, there's a bakery/cafe that I go to with one of my roommates once a week! It's a nice treat.

Reply

a run is really my biggest energy booster. If no time or already ran a few yoga sun salutations always work. I know you are "mrs. opposed to showers", but going through my whole shower and get ready routine can be extremely helpful too. And last but not least, a good old trip to Target works every time.

I left work on my prep period this year for an Egg Mcmuffin. It was so good i did it the following day too.

Reply

you are the CUTEST thing!! yes you seem to have more energy than anyone i have ever "met". i was wondering what a day in the life of "you" was like. exercise for sure helps to have more energy but i don't think i could survive working out the way you do. you are amazing.
I LOVE how totally POSITIVE you are! Wish there was more of that in everyone…including me.
You inspire me to do more and be a better person….I mean that!

Reply

I definitely have more energy when I work out in the mornings, I can't explain it! I also quit the caffiene a long time ago and it was such a big change for me!

I rarely eat breakfast out, I feel like that is the one meal I can always control so I almost always eat at home unless its a very special occasion! I prefer birthday brunch to birthday dinner!

Reply

i definitely think exercise helps provide a lot of energy to get me through the day! i have always been a morning workout person but with my work starting so early it's makes that hard and i have to resort to afternoon workouts = yuck. by then i am exhausted from working all day and when it's driving off road in the desert it's never easy. rawr.

Excellent post! I was tired this afternoon before the gym but I told myself that working out would make me less tired. It worked! Now you have me thinking about getting off the caffeine… I'll have to see if that actually happens.

Thanks to reading your blog right before bed, I had the most RIDICULOUS dream last night about my boyfriend proposing to me in this super-surprising fashion, and me being pissed because I was dressed in PJ's/workout gear and not at all cute. In real life, that would never piss me off! that's the way he likes me!

I have a random question for you: do you have any celebrity dopplegangers? You look like so many different celebs to me. Probably because you're such a model and belong in on the Big Screen

About this quote: "…life will be so much better when blah blah blah happens."

I LOVE WHAT ABOUT BOB!!! Ahahaha. If we weren't 100% BFF's before, it is now officially official. Okay, sorry for my outburst. You are great and I love the pictures and most importantly your outlook on life! Also, I am coming to Utah pronto so we can ride bikes together wherever you are in that picture!!!

I totally agree with your outlook in that if you THINK/FEEL/BELIEVE that you are energentic and happy…you will be! Good reminder ;)

Janae, I read your posts in Google Reader and think "Oh, I'll go comment" and then I click over to your blog and there are already a bazillion comments and it makes me think A) there's no way you have time to bother reading all of them and also B) there are so many that anything I could say wouldn't add much, and C) with this many BFFs, there's no way It would be special to hear from me when you have so many comments already.

So I haven't been saying hello but that doesn't change the fact that I think you're darling and I'm glad to be following your blog and I loved your emails.

Q&A: Did you always have a lot of energy from exercising or do you not even know because you've been running around nonstop as long as you can remember so there's no way to tell.

I have been very low energy lately. I hear that exercise will improve that, but that's like saying getting less sleep will make you less sleepy. It may be true but it's sure hard to make yourself go expend some energy when you're feeling lethargic.

So with that, Can I invoke BFF Favor #1?!:

I would like to see a blog post about Barriers To Exercising and have everyone write their reasons for not, and how they have superseded the problem (or plan to, at any rate). What say ye? I could do it on my own blog, but my goodness you have eleventeen hundred more readers than I ever will, and I think this is a topic many of us could benefit from.

I'll start:
#1: I'm lazy.
#2: I tend to get going only to get injured.
#3: I keep waiting around doing nothing to prevent myself from being injured…but I'm becoming aware that given the choice between periodic injury or long-term poor health and fitness, the former is the better choice.
#4: I have no exercise buddies and I get so bored.

My solutions so far have been to:

A) Subscribe to your blog and read about YOU exercising, while hoping it rubs off on me.
B) Make a goal to get on top of this whole fitness thing in 2011.
C) Change my attitude

I'm doing pretty well so far…A) was easy. B) isn't a short-term thing but I need some help getting it going, and C) I am willing to change, and am trying. Getting the change from my head into my arms and legs and body is the trick so far.

And so, can you expound on this topic at your earliest convenience, pretty please with white chocolate chips, sprinkles and whipped cream on top?

Thanks sugar!

On my rest days I am a total sloth and wonder how I am going to bait my kids to snag me more cheeze its. I often wonder on rest days if I will ever run again- if I actually even ever ran because I am so comotose. But the next day I do and am all jazzy and then wonder why I ever rest. But I do because its good for me like vitamens and teeth flossing.
I only go out Bfast on special occasions and then I throw it down. Helllo pancakes and greasy meat and potatoes. Normally Im a half an emuffin and pb and half a bananna girl. Bor-ing. Oh and coffee. I have 3 boys and its better than drugs.(<;

Running also gives me energy.. Funny how that works.

I also am a firm believer that if you tell yourself you are happy/energized that you will be.. I tend to see a trend on FB that people who complain about being tired, sick, depressed seem to complain a LOT.. I wonder how it carries over into their everyday life! Makes me feel bad for them. I try to see the "positives" in life instead

Reply

Can I have some of your energy??
I totally agree with you on having more energy when you work out. Sundays I feel like I'm a SLUG the end of the night and I always can't wait to get working out again on Monday! Although I LOVE breakfast foods, I don't like to eat breakfast out because I feel like it screws up my eating for the rest of the day. I am crazy, I know.
Thank goodness for you having your internet back…I was really worried about you for a while there! Can't wait to see you Sat!!

I pop caffeinated shot blocks when I need a pick me up :) I love those too!! Bought them for running, now I eat them as candy. Addictive little gummy treats!

Luv eating out for breakfast. You have a ton of energy.. I can tell just by reading your blog. SHARE!!

i just found your blog, and i love it!! you are so radiant, positive, and yes – full of energy! so inspiring. i love eating out for breakfast but don't get to do it so much unless i'm home with my family… whenever i get a chance to go to breakfast with friends though i always seize the opportunity – it's so fun! in high school, me and one of my friends had a "breakfast club" where we went out for pancakes once a month and talked for at least three hours… yes a two-person breakfast club. it was fun though!

SO true about thinking yourself into being energetic! I am quite a morning person, but some days I dont feel great, but I will still be chripy to everyone at work as we all have to be there all day so may as well start off on a cheery note :)

Reply

Haha I just assumed the energy was a result of extreme candy eating! :P Kidding, but that IS where a lot of my energy comes from tbh! And you're TOTALLY right that exercise GIVES me energy rather than drains me of it!! And I'm exactly the same on rest days! :P

Just reading your blog is an energy booster for me! WHEEE HERE I GO!!! :D

I'm just the same as you: if I don't get in my morning exercise then I'm cranky, depressed and have no energy. I used to think that I didn't rest because it was compulsive or to do with food/calories, but actually it's because my mood took such a dip. Sadly the problem is that I need rest to prevent injuries! Such a dilemma…

I don't think I've ever eaten out for breakfast…I'd like to though!

Love your positivity: it radiates from your blog and I still look forward to every post.
