CHOICE, Cobbler and Chickey Noodle Soup

If I wore a pedometer Sunday the amount of steps would have been around 300.

I am more than okay with that.  Our bodies truly need a ‘rest’ day.

By Sunday I am ready to sleep in, hang out with my main squeeze, go to church and spend the evening sipping homemade chicken noodle soup.

P.S. those are also homemade rolls.  Aunt Laura, you rock.

She also made peach and blueberry cobbler aka heaven on a plate.  Butter and sugar were meant to be put together and eaten with ice cream.

On a random note…….

Billy taught me an important lesson today, I really thought about it for awhile.

Today before we left for dinner:

Me, “Billy why do you have to be so hot?”

Billy says with a huge grin on his face, “I don’t have to be so hot, I choose to be hot.”

Billy is opposite of cocky but he taught me two things from our silly dialogue.

1.  A lot of times when someone compliments me I reply with something like, “I am actually kind of feeling fat today after eating 4 packages of reeces pieces, I haven’t washed my hair in three days and I don’t remember the last time I brushed my teeth,” rather than saying, “thank you,” and actually believing it.

Why is it so hard as women to accept the fact that someone is genuinely telling us something awesome about ourselves?

Why is it so easy to compliment everyone else but think we aren’t worthy of such compliments?

2.  The word CHOICE.  Billy is the best example of choosing to be happy. He chooses to like himself.  He could focus on the negative but he chooses to make the best of everything. We all have that choice no matter what our circumstance is.

******If you haven’t read anyting from this post because you are here to see photos of the large amounts of dessert I eat, please read this:

Loving ourself is MORE important than how many miles we log this week and how ‘clean’ our diet is.

Oh yeah, and the winner of the homemade carmel apples goes to ……… (Sorry no video, I used random.org, I thought two videos within 24 hours would be a little ridiculous).

Kayla and Trent Romney.  Her favorite type of carmel apple is, “Caramel with white chocolate and cinnamon sugar!  Mmmm blissful.”

Wahoo girl…..Email me your address and I will make my drivers ed student drive me to the post office today:)

Leaving you with a picture of me riding my aunts ginormous dog.  The dog looks sad but she really had fun, I promise.

How are you going to choose to love yourself today? Please, everyone leave a comment so that we can have lots of good ideas to use:)

-I am not going to watch shows at the gym today (i.e. E Hollywood, America’s Next Top Model etc) that tell me I am not good enough.  I am going to watch, read and listen to things that RAISE me up.

-When Billy tells me I look good today (like he always does, he is a winner) I am going to say and THINK, you betcha….I am looking mighty FINE today:)

Today I already loved myself by getting up for an early AM workout – staying healthy = love. :)

my husband is the same. I think we are pretty lucky to have such great men in our lives. I love myself by slowing down and smelling the sweet fragrance of the season. Okay corny but true!

Ah I totally agree with you – sometimes taking a step back and saying, "hmm, I'm actually pretty awesome" is empowering! And we all deserve to feel that way about ourselves :)

P.S. loved the tribute to your foam roller. I don't know what I'd do without mine…

I stopped reading Cosmo a few years ago, it always brought me down and made me feel fat, poor, prudish, etc!

I do the same thing as you, probably because I too eat massive amounts of candy and wash my hair like two times a week. But the other day I realized that there's really nothing about my body I would change if I had a chance. I think I look pretty awesome :)

I'm going to do something today that I really love to do and feel great about it! =D

I do the same thing that you do in that I always make some down-grading comment after getting a compliment. I will accept all compliments and remind myself how true they are!

This post made my day! Instead of thinking of the negative things (the three pimples on my chin from eating massive amounts of chocolate, my greasy hair) that no one sees but me…i will think of the great things that others see in me! Just like Prince Edward in the movie Enchanted when asked if he liked himself…he replied with "what's not to like?". Nothing says you're awesome like a hubby and sweet baby girl at the finish line with chocolate milk!

What a wonderful, positive post! That's great that Billy is so supportive & sweet! Today I am going to love myself by cutting myself some slack and not being so hard on myself. I'm going to remember the good things about myself rather than focusing on things I'd like to change.

Hmmm apparently I choose to have bad hair and big hips far too often…This is a great post, so sweet and positive. Billy sounds like a fabulous man!!

Today, I am going to admire how lovely my hiney looks in this skirt :)

That hit the nail on the head. I simply can't take a complement and always turn it around to be a negative. Bad quality of mine. Thanks for reminding us to learn to accept the good!!

I love your comment.

I do not take compliments very well but I remember then forever.

I had ONE yes ONE person tell me I was conceited [get this . . . .] in 6th grade. And ever since then . . . .
I
suck
at
accepting
compliments.

The cobbler looks fantastic!
I ran 5.5 miles then we made a pumpkin pie yesterday and ate it with Edy's slow churned egg nog ice cream & whipped cream. YUM.

What kind of dog does your aunt have? It looks bigger than my greyhound!

i love it! i tell mr. dawn that he is hot all. the. time! his response? "i know i'm awesome." i've gotten so used to this that sometimes it slips out when people (who don't know my husband) compliment me. and then…it just sounds weird. then i have to explain the whole story…and gets super awkward super fast…

What a great remidner.. Whenever somebody compliments me and says "You look nice today" I just kind of shrug it off but I cant help thinking to myself that it must mean I dont look nice all the other days.

This has been a little struggle for me at times :)

What a great post! I'm normally dreadful at accepting compliments and complimenting myself, but this morning I woke up and I though, "Damn, I feel good." I felt strong and sexy…..before I even got out of bed!

Reply

LOVE this post! like you I do the same thing "You think I look good?! Ahaha that's cute, do you not see the size of my ass today?!"

So today… if I get a compliment I will smile and say thank you… and if I dont, well I will talk to myself and tell me I'm special, becuase I AM! ahahaha

when someone compliments my cooking, I am learning to just say "thank you" instead of dissecting everything that could have been better. And, when Bud tells me I'm beautiful, I just give him a big 'ol smooch instead of saying "No I'm not!" It's been a long road, but I'm learning to just accept it when people say something nice.

My Billy is like your Billy in that way! We are blessed with AWESOME husbands and it's great that you are open to learning from him. Billy has taught me so much about loving myself and letting others love me, too. Today, I'm loving myself by taking time to reflect on the race from yesterday and feel proud of my accomplishment!

Ok so funny story to add to this. In college, my roommate and I used to have "hott days"! We would pick out an outfit that made us feel hot and then we would wear that outfit and just feel great about ourselves the whole day because we thought we looked good that day! It was just a fun way to be happy with our bodies and who we are/were.

Today If I get a compliment I will try to remember to just say Thank you and appreciate it!

Reply

Loving the message. What's the point of constantly being unhappy about the silly things?

Reply

Today I'm not going to nit pick myself in front of the mirror. Maybe focus on one body part that I actually like. Good message for today. Thanks! And that chickey soup looks divine!

I think we're connected, somehow, 'cause I was totally thinking this same thing over the weekend. Why can't I just gracefully accept a compliment, instead of brushing it off and arguing against it? Hmmm…

I love love love your boots, btw.

Billy and Tim must have learned from the same master. The first thing I heard this morning, at 5:00 a.m. no less, was that I was hot and had beautiful brown eyes. What a way to start a gray Monday morning.

that soup looks absolutely amazing….definitely has me wanting something warm for dinner!

I'm heading to yoga because my mind & body love it!

Haaa, you are beautiful for so many awesome reasons. One of them is that you are well connected to great cooks, lol. Seriously those dishes look amazing. Cobbler, yes!

Dudes sometimes say things that are so simple we as woman are trying to make things more complicated. I am going to enjoy holiday cookies from a coworker!

Reply

I always do that too!!! Always say something negative after a complement, I gotta work on that. But the good thing is I probably suffer from over-confidence, haha!

Reply

Janae… this is just one of the reasons why you are so awesome! Thanks for this positive post… I needed it today! Today I will love myself by not letting the number on the scale dictate my mood for the day!

Getting out and accomplishing something I so did not feel like doing makes me love myself, LOL ;). P.S. thank you so much for your comment on my post, I'm new to blogging so I was starting to feel sad not having many followers, lol! P.S.S that blueberry cobbler looks absolutely DELICIOUS.

I have SUCH a hard time accepting compliments. When people tell me they like my jeans, I feel the need to tell them I only paid $19 for them. Its ridiculous.

Your husband is SO right. He sounds awesome!

Billy is a genius! :) Excellent message Janae!
You are truly a gifted blogger…I'm thinking you could have over 400 followers by 2011. Whatcha think?!

Stay your postive, upbeat self!! And, enjoy every sweet bite! :)

OMG!!! you read my thoughts today. I was feeling blah today and I read your post…so what I needed!

I am not going to stress about the excessive amount of NON clean food I ate this weekend and not obsess about trying to eat clean but just enjoy food today :)

Oops! Trying again…not sure what happened on that last comment!

This is a tough one for me! I'm married to a man who wouldn't care if I turned into the Elephant Woman…no lie! He loves my guts! I on the other hand am pretty into looks, and get frustrated when I work reeeeeally hard to look good, and don't get complemented. Then, when I get a complement, I do the same thing as you, and point out the flaws.

Great post today…as usual!

I am loving myself by drinking LOTS of coffee today and I also love myself by getting in the running before the family gets up every day (to ensure I get the chance).

Just a thought, but I think people say that sort of stuff when they get a compliment because they don't want to appear conceited by agreeing- but it is much more graceful to accept with a thankyou.

Love this post!! I know you've read it :) but I've been working on loving myself by ditching the scale! The past few days have been blissful :D

I like J's idea of hott days lol, I do this sometimes but I've never given it a name.

I'm one of those girls that can't take a compliment. I've been trying to work on it and just say thank you… it's hard sometimes! :)

I was nice to myself today because I CHOSE to do both of my workouts and then go to lunch and shop! :)

Congrats to the winner!

I'm going to go eat my baked apples… that will be me loving myself!

You are so right! I am always telling my husband how happy and confident(in a good way) he is! If I have a negative though, I try and erase it really fast with a positve one! :)

Janae,
Just stumbled on this post and want to let you know how inspiring it is- like your entire blog. This week I began treatment to start REALLY loving myself the way my body deserves to be loved, and seeing your journey to health reminds me of why I’m doing this. Thanks for being someone I can look up to during the hard times.
