Healthyish Banana Bread

Does it count as healthy if I ate half the bag of chocolate chips as I was baking?

  • 1/3 c. natural applesauce
  • 3/4 c. brown sugar
  • egg whitesshopping list
  • 2-3 bananas
  • 1/3 c. water
  • 1 2/3 c. wheat flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • Chocolate chips of course
    • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix applesauce and sugar. Stir in eggs then bananas then water. Stir in dry ingredients. Pour mixture into a loaf pan and bake 55-60 minutes or until knife comes out clean.
    • I think the picture says at least 100 words of how good it turned out.  Billy even liked it and he hates bananas and most healthified things.

    • After many hours of watching The Office and Top Gun, I headed over to my parents house for Sunday night dinner.
    • We had Thanksgiving #2.  I can officially say I am now sick of turkey and pie but it was delicious while it lasted.  The gravy stole the show.  Any gravy fans out there?

    • I am ready to get back to normal eating and exercise.
    • What is your plan of attack after this week of indulgent eating?
    • -I will be hitting the veggies hard and lots of water.  I am also looking forward to a sweat session from spin and a killer strength training work-out tomorrow.  A huge part of why I am feeling kind of yucky right now is because I have been going to bed way too late and sleeping in.  Back to the 9:30 P.M.-5:00 A.M. sleeping pattern.

i'm totally with you! on the drive home yesterday mr. dawn and i laid out our veggie-consumption plan of attack for this week and the weeks leading up to christmas. we want to stay as health-minded as possible throughout this holiday season. with that in mind, i went to target armed with my 10% discount and bought every single type of vegetable i could find. we ate vegetarian sushi for dinner and then had cucumbers and peppers for our mid-evening snack. go team health-for-the-holidays!

I'm not a gravy fan myself, because I help my family make it which means I see the turkey innards boil, get chopped up, stew in butter and get mixed around with chopped hard-boiled egg (we're traditional gravy giblet people!).

I smother my turkey in homemade cranberry sauce. And I mean smother, it's criminal.

I'm with you on the sleep schedule – we slept in this weekend and I'm ready to get up early tomorrow morning. Our half marathon is next Sunday so this week is about finishing up our training and staying injury-free and healthy!

Okay, so I don't feel so bad going to bed at 9:30 p.m. What are we 70?! ha! :)

Your camera/phone snaps some fab pics by the way. Shows off your yummy goods.

Good luck with your full week back to school!

9:30 bedtime?? Ummm, how jealous am I right now?! Veggie-overload is the best plan of attack ever. Steamed, sauteed, salads… any way you can!

I would love to go to bed by 9:30. What am I still doing up?!?

Great idea to replace the fat in the banana bread with apple sauce. I do that in my protein oatmeal cookies too- or use smashed bananas. A little chocolate doesn't hurt :)

My plan is to keep enjoying the week. Turkey is pretty healthy and so are most of the rest of our leftovers. It's probably better for me than the 6 pounds of chocolate chips I have stashed in the cupboard. We'll see which one wins. Still reversing taper…but calories will burn.

You are about 40 days from running again?! Right? I am so excited for you! Very curious to see what your return to marathoning plan looks like. No doubt you will still be fit with all the XT you do. :)

The bread looks delicious! I'm more than ready to get back to the routine and the kids to get back to school!!! My plan for today is mass amounts of water, veggies and no sugar.

I think I've had my fill on Thanksgiving foods for a while, too! I'm ready to get back on track as well. I usually get in some great sweat sessions (maybe add a few extra minutes!) and hit the fruits/veggies hard :) hehe, I'm in bed by 9:00 on weekdays. PARTY ANIMAL, yeah? BUT seriously, can the long weekend last just a little bit longer???

I love banana bread but I can't make it – mashing bananas makes me gag!
