It’s time for us as runners to do this, we went to a party and YOUR running accomplishments!

The kids were ready to go play some soccer last night and score a bunch of goals when all of the sudden it started pouring rain when we got to the field.   We decided the change of plans in our evening called for some pasta instead.

Brooke ordered some noodles and asked for some parmesan cheese.  She couldn’t believe that the waitress brought her two full cups of it!

She made sure to pile it all on top.

The meal started off with this insane bread that we dipped into olive oil and vinegar.

Once my meal arrived (spaghetti and meatballs) Brooke decided that she wanted my meal too so we shared and it was delicious.

Andrew had the same thing and Knox was all about the chicken fingers.

We went home and got the kids all showered and ready for bed.

Then a babysitter came over and we left for a bit to hang out with some friends.  The party was at my old apartment complex where I used to live with Brooke:)

Well, her birthday is on Saturday but she will be at Disneyland on her birthday so we celebrated last night instead.

TANNA!!!  “Just this past Saturday, I met my second goal (first one being completing my first marathon)!  I completed a half marathon in under two hours (1:57:25!!) at the Bristol Half and Half!  I have been dreaming of this day since my little girl was born (almost 3 years ago)!  I could not have met this goal without the love and support from my family and friends, not to mention the awesome pacer that encouraged me along the way!  I am so excited to see what else I can accomplish this year!!”

MEGAN!!!  “Recently you posted a running accomplishment of my twin sister, Julie!!  Today I ran a half marathon PR after having the same time for three races.  My sister is training me for the Vermont City Marathon in May which I decided to run to celebrate my graduation from graduate school for dietetics.  I finished in 1:44:34 which is over a three minute improvement.  She’s been a great coach and cheerleader and I couldn’t have done it without her.  And learning from other running blogs!  I blog somewhat about running but also have fueling and nutrition topics.  My blog is HERE!”

KATIE!!!  “I wanted to share that I recently ran my first FULL marathon at the beginning of April in Raleigh, NC.  I trained for 3 months (mostly inside on the treadmill because I work during all daylight hours in the winter) and it was definitely one of the hardest things I’ve ever done.  My goal was to finish in 4 hours and I was right on track during the first half (finished the half in 2:03, which included a potty break because my bladder couldn’t take it anymore).  The back half was full of long, gradual inclines that totally wiped out my legs and lungs.  I held in pretty strong at a slower pace until about mile 23 and the last 3.2 were a real fight to the finish.  Let’s also mention the ridiculous uphill that consumed a good portion of mile 25… 25! Anyway, I finished in 4:08 and couldn’t be prouder of my accomplishment.  ‘I can do hard things.’:)”

VERONICA!!!  “I ran a ten-mile race a couple weeks ago.  It was my first and I had no particular goal except to race well- i.e. don’t give up on a monster hill and run fast the last mile.  My daughter is about to be six months so when I signed up for it I thought just finish it.  However, I finished under 1:21 and knew that if I just kept going another 3.1 I could finally get under a 1:50 half marathon, even if it was unofficial.  And I did it- my watch said 1:48:49!  I’ve been trying to get that goal for 3 years, having run 14+ half marathons all ranging between 1:51-1:58.  I finally did it- AFTER having my daughter.  My mental toughness is definitely stronger because I know I have to make the most of my runs.  I raced well and didn’t give up when it got hard.  I also got third in my age group!”

KATE!!!  Kate ran FIFTY (50!!!!) miles around a track to raise money for her students.  WOW.  Her article is on Runners World and I’ll share a part!   “Kate Fletcher, an 11th grade English teacher in Louisa, Virginia, has two main passions in life: teaching and running.  On Monday, April 3, she combined the two by running 50 miles around the Louisa County High School track to fundraise for the school and teach her students what she deems the most important lesson:  “You can find strength—and even joy—in tackling adversity.”

ANNA!!! “On Monday, I ran my second Boston marathon! I honestly was pretty lax in my training this time around and did not have a real goal in place, I just wanted to do around the time I did last year… My time was literally one second slower than last year:)  My dad even joked with me asking what took me so long.  Even though it was my second time running Boston, it was just as magical/amazing/inspiring/incredible as the first time.  My boyfriend came with me this year and made the whole trip that much more special.  My splits were really starting to slow down staring around mile 19 but as soon as I saw him at mile 25 my times went from around 8:00/mile to sub 7 my last 1.2 miles!  I am hoping this becomes a tradition for us, but hopefully my times will go down, not up by a second!”

It’s that wonderful time of year… we are switching seasons again (well, it already has for many of you in other areas) and it is time for our bodies to acclimate/change/adapt to the new temperatures.  REMEMBER… don’t get frustrated with yourself.  We are ALL in the same boat.  You are not alone if it takes you time to adjust to these warmer temperatures.  Be patient with yourself.  These first few runs in the hotter temperatures are just going to hurt but with 5-10 runs of 60+ your body is going to learn to run better in the heat (I’m more on the 10-15 runs of 60+ to start feeling better:).  For those of you that have been training in cooler temps and then went out to Boston and had a hot race… you are amazing.  And for all of you that train in heat and humidity way worse than Utah, you are my heroes.  I don’t love the bundling up for winter running but goodness gracious, running in the cold temps is a lot easier on my mind and brain than the hot temps.

Do you sweat a lot when running or do you glisten?

-Glisten on face and sweat a lot everywhere else:)

How are you spending your Friday night?

If you could have a plate of any food that you want on the planet magically appear right in front of you, what would it be?

Have you started to acclimate to the warmer temperatures yet this year?  If not, when do the warmer temperatures start creeping in for you?

-We usually start getting the really hot temperatures in June so we still have a little time.

Looks like y’all’s change of plans turned out to be fun! :) My Friday night will probably be spent on my sofa watching The Office. I’ve been trying to get out more, but this week has exhausted me in so many ways.

If I could have any plate of food appear before me right now, it would definitely be a big cheeseburger and some veggies with a side of Eatzi’s ranch and some Wheat Thins.

I don’t know why, but I love doing short runs in really hot weather. I love the sun and heat in general though… Probably a good thing I live in Texas :). Long runs in the heat make me feel kind of sick though.

Reply

YES, very good thing you live in Texas:) Teach me to love running in really hot weather please:) I hope you have an amazing weekend Christina!

Reply

I sweat a lot-ha! Constantly wiping it from running in my eyes………….but I live in the South, and the humidity here is like 90% most of the time so no wonder!
My Friday night is pizza and movie night with my husband!
I think I would want french toast to magically appear right in front of me…………mmmmmmmmmmmm.
And it takes me 2-3 weeks of running to be used to the heat. Right now is hard though because not only do we have 80 degree days, but the air is so thick from pollen that it makes it hard to breathe. Not an easy running situation to adapt to!

Reply

I’m so amazed by people who finish a race and then keep running! Honestly don’t know how you do it.

I think I sweat a lot when I run, but I only notice it when I’m indoors.

Reply

We get warmer weather around now. I can’t say I love running in extreme temperature but I’m happy to run in anything that isn’t the rain.

I loved reading about all of the accomplishments during Boston this year. It sounds like the weather was no great so I can’t imagine how difficult it was to run in those conditions.

Reply

I don’t sweat as much as some of my running buddies, but once it gets hot enough, I am definitely a soggy mess after running. In Alabama it is humid and fairly warm year-round. It takes a couple of weeks to adjust to running in temps in the 80s and 90s thought for sure. Tonight my firm is having a crawfish boil to celebrate the end of tax season (I am an accountant and have been burried under a heap of tax returns for the last 3.5 months). I hope you have a wonderful Friday!

Reply

AHHHH SAM…. so excited that you are at the end of tax season, I bet that feels amazing! I hope you have so much fun at the boil and enjoy your weekend! 80s-90s… teach me how to do that!

I sweat, I have been asked if I dumped water on myself. Sadly I just sweat that much.

We are taking a tour of a brew pub this evening. My husband loves dark and craft beers so we have been to some interesting places.

It was 87 degrees Sunday and today will be 58. So we are having crazy spring weather. it’s hard to get acclimated when the weather can’t make Up its mind.

Reply

We’ve had quite a few days that I would categorized as HOT already in Colorado, which scares me for what the weather will be like this summer. I may need to start running at 4am.

I don’t sweat a ton while running, but yoga will make me look like I just went for a swim haha.

Reply

How much I sweat really depends on the humidity, I think. Yesterday morning I got out to run and even though it was 62*, it was probably the sweatiest run of my life because of how sticky and humid it was outside! The post-run selfie I sent to my BF was NOT attractive haha. The weather in Indiana (at least northern Indiana) is so unpredictable from year to year. Some years will be super hot and humid in the summers, others it will be mild. Needless to say I prefer the mild years! I think we’ll start to get more consistently warm weather starting in June, though. It’s still up and down right now.

I’ve got a real exciting Friday night planned of working, but maybe I’ll give myself an hour or two of Netflix to relax ;)

If I could have a plate of food appear in front of me right now, it would no doubt be pizza, which is my favorite food. Not to brag, but my boyfriend and I have nailed our from-scratch pizza recipe ;) Plus, I’m on Day 26 of the Whole30, and while I feel fantastic, I’m really missing some pizza in my life!

Reply

Now you are making me crave some pizza… your bf’s homemade pizza sounds excellent. So glad you are feeling so great with Whole30! Are you going to be easing back in the foods you cut out once you get to day 30? ENJOY YOUR NETFLIX TIME… the best!

Reply

Yeah, I’ll be easing back in. I figure I made it this far, I might as well finish out the program like they set it out. But pizza is on the agenda in the very near future!

Reply

Its so great to see all of these accomplishments! Love that you do that, Janae. My biggest is for sure my half marathon… i NEVER thought I would do something like that and it felt amazing to do something I trained and set my mind to.

Any plate right now- big stack of pancakes with eggs and sausage!

Reply

It’s so motivating to see all the runners’ achievements! I usually take the winters off from running long distances and switch over to spinning more, but this is all the push I need to get back out onto the pavement! Thanks for pulling all these accomplishment together Janae, inspired!

I want a fresh four-cheese pizza from italy!! (i put a lot of thought into this decision hahaha)

Reply

Now I want that too;) I hope you are having an awesome day Krista! PS it is fun to see what foods you are eating on your blog from Peru… I love it!

Reply

I’m not too much of a sweater while I run. It hits me once I’m done and relaxing, ha! But I don’t sweat too bad. I’m seriously always cold! Jeans in the middle of a Midwest summer kind of gal!
My weekend includes a lot of travel plans and running, of course!
Warm weather running is my absolute favorite! The other day I went running when it was 80 degrees out, best run of my week! But June and July it will be like 100’s with humidity and the runs will have to happen in the morning before the sun wakes up!

Reply

I’m just the same as you. I glisten on the face and then sweat everywhere else.

Regarding the food appearing in front of me, I think it will depend on my mood and what I’m craving. Right at this time, I guess it could be BBQ meat, Labanese food, and lots and lots of dessert.

Regarding the acclimation, here in Miami we actually have to acclimate to cold. You know, when it goes down to 61 degrees (lol). Just kidding. Even though we are tropical creatures, I still have a hard time when it comes to the high heat and humidity in August. It feels like hell. And also, that’s when treadmill season starts for me. Thank God we still have a little bit more time before that happens.

Reply

I sweat! EVERYWHERE! I’m a heavy salty sweater.
Plate of pizza please.

Reply

I definitely sweat more than glisten. I like to tell myself it’s because I’m well hydrated! :) Sometimes I get more sweaty once I come inside from an outdoor run, which I guess is because of the lack of breeze and temperature difference… nothing like walking into your house and suddenly looking like a drowned rat!

The only exciting Friday plans I have are to go to a Lululemon trunk show at a wine bar tonight, which means I get to combine wine with comfy fitness wear, which sounds like an excellent idea.

It hasn’t been too warm yet here in Iowa – but we have had some crazy storms, which means the humidity has been high on some days. It never fails that I forget to prepare and end up with chafing somewhere… EVERY YEAR! I even had 2 things of BodyGlide ready to use, but I didn’t use them. I am now paying the price.

Reply

I totally bet it is because you are so well hydrated… keep it up Rhiannon;) I’m going to tell myself this too! OH HAVE SUCH A FUN NIGHT TONIGHT, sounds awesome! Enjoy your weekend!!

With cystic fibrosis I do sweat a lot and lose a ton of salt so it is extra challenging as a runner! I think it is the main reason I ran my half marathon PB in the minus 20 degrees! Although I have been running for over 15 years, I can’t say that I have found the magic electrolytes formula for running in the summer humidity. I tend to get bloated and dehydrated because I lose too much salt and my body doesn’t process the liquids I ingest properly. I do want to try the Vega electrolytes this summer though and see if it helps.

Reply

Oh I totally bet that the -20 degree weather was a factor in helping your body to run that PB! Over 15 years Mel, that is awesome! YES, I love Vega! Let me know what you think and I hope you have an amazing weekend!

Reply

I feel like i don’t sweat a ton when I run?! Hot yoga is another story though! Oh man! Speaking of, tonight I’m going to a 90 minute Bikram (HOT!) class that will all be set to Prince music to commemorate the anniversary of his death a year ago. I have my purple outfit all picked out :)

I don’t mind the heat if I can get out early before the sun is killing me. Humidity, I can deal with, hot sun on me—kills me. I had my first rough hot 4:00 pm b/c that was the only time I could run that day. Argh. It reminded me of the importance of staying hydrated and being gentle with myself about paces. Yikes.

One plate of food? Right now? The yellow tail snapper with citrus beurre blanc sauce and key lime pie from Blue Heaven in Key West. Oh, and a mimosa to top it off :)

Birthday parties are always so much fun. It must have been kind of weird to be back at the building that you used to love in.

If I could have any meal right now, I’d probably go with butter chicken and naan bread. So delicious!

Surprisingly, I sweat a lot and it is still in the 40s here in Alaska. It doesn’t get very hot here like it does in the “lower 48” but we are gradually starting to see warmer temperatures. Our summer time average is in the mid 60s. That makes it nice for running but hard for racing in other states where the temperatures are much warmer, not to mention the humidity.

Reply

I live in Florida, so the heat is just a way of life for me. Doesn’t mean I like it – I sweat like a beast, so half the time I’m blind with sweat while running outside and usually don’t run very much from May on since I don’t have a treadmill right now.
My husband is a police officer who works nights and is working this weekend, so my Friday night will involve pizza, Parenthood, and hopefully some quality time with my couch once the baby is in bed :-) Have a great weekend!

I feel like living in the mountains had made me a total wuss when it comes to working out in hot weather. I find myself absolutely pulling off clothes if the temperature is over 45 or 50. I’m going to be in trouble when it gets into the 80s. Luckily, that will be in July and August so I have some time! I should probably plan to never run anywhere it gets in the 90s hahaha

There is no glistening. I straight up rain sweat. Seriously from a distance you might think I just had a really rough shower. I’ve run in Texas and now California. So it’s been hot and cold. And now it’s just warm and perfect. When I wake up it’s in the 50/60s which is perfection for me.
My answer to food 90% of the time is tacos. Today it was guacamole (vegan bc lactose), refried beans, rice, salsa, and lettuce. But it’s always what I want on my plate.
Tonight we might go swim because it’s 91′ out

I just love everyone’s running accomplishments. They always leave me feeling so inspired!

I spent Friday night watching 30 Rock and eating pizza. :)

For some reason, all my friends and family are very well aware of my disdain for heat. Don’t get me wrong, the sun and warmth feels sooooo good in my bones as long as it’s not above 75 degrees. It takes me many runs to get acclimated. I am a sweater, but mostly as soon as I stop. How do legs sweat so much?! My bra band gets the sweatiest but I don’t typically sweat through my apparel. Thank gosh! But when I finish-I have a remarkable glisten from head to toe……

Friday night involved hanging out watching HS soccer games, eating Easter Candy, and staying awake to go pick up my daughter from movie night in a neighboring village. I was pretty tired from a hilly 12 mile run after work.

Right this second a pile of peanut butter (or almond butter) toast would be very exciting.

Last week it was nice and in the 60’s. This week we had snow, wind, hail……

Reply

I sweat like a man. There is none of that glistening glow stuff happening over here, I straight up pour out sweat. Its really awesome lol. I am loving that it is getting warmer here! Sometimes I actually run better in the heat, I’m not really sure why but heat just doesn’t really bother me much.

Reply

ha I also glisten on my face and sweat a lot everywhere else! I don’t really mind…the only really bad party about sweating is on your head…because then your hair is sweaty!

And tonight I am going to bed extra early because I’m running the Illinois marathon tomorrow morning!!

Reply

Yum! That pasta and bread looks amazing! Which restaurant is this? I hate running in the heat so I usually do a lot of treadmill runs in the summer.
If I could have any food appear right now…definitely pizza!!! I could literally eat it for every meal for the rest of my life!

Reply

Hey Ashley!! The restaurant is called Bona Vita and it is incredible!!! I hope you get some pizza asap! Have an awesome weekend!

I live in the tropics – Darwin, Australia. Our climate is 95% + humidity, 90 – 100 degrees (F) year round. We have a wet season and a dry season. When I first moved here I couldn’t run longer than 5km, and I’d be covered in sweat and just completely drained. now a year later I am up at 12km! You can acclimatise, you just need to give your body time to adjust, make sure you’re extra hydrated (BEFORE you start running), and accept that it’s not going to be pleasant! Oh and I still sweat bucketloads, don’t think that will ever change.

Reply

Love all of the running accomplishments! So inspiring.
