10 things from our Thursday + a VLOG from us + accomplishment!

Hallelujah for Friday!  I’ve got ten things to share with you from our Thursday!!!

1.  Yesterday we went to visit Megan, Lindsey and Whitney for a bit.  It has been ages since I had seen them and caught up on everything.  Brooke found her favorite pillow like she does every time we are there.

2.  The two of us stopped by the store to grab some things while we were out.  Andrew and I make sure to do one on one time with the kids because while the blending family thing is going well, I think the kids still need one on one time too.  Hence dates with Knox and dates with Brooke.  They went from having each of our full attention at all times to sharing attention so we try to do this every so often.

3.  We happened to be at the store that sells my favorite chocolate covered cinnamon bears and gummy bears so I picked up a few.

4.  Spaghetti has been on my mind lately so we had spaghetti with meatballs (we used ground turkey for this recipe).  Hit. The. Spot.

5.  Andrew looks a tad bit different when his beard is gone right?!

6.  The kids both do this thing to us throughout the day where we say something and then they look at us (while sometimes rolling their eyes) and say, ‘REALLY?’

7.  Andrew sometimes makes it through at least half of his dinner before this:

8.  On Thursday nights we are doing a thing called Family night—>  an activity, a lesson and a treat.  The lesson yesterday was about telling the truth and the kids LOVE Andrew’s stories.  They ask for more and more and more.

9.  The activity was steamroller and even Beretta joined in.  I would like to say I have mastered this game.

10.  Our second activity was watching parts of one of Knox’s favorite movies.  It made me want more chocolate.

And a nice little vlog from Andrew and me.  We made it way too late at night.  Good luck;)  Answering your questions from yesterday:

The plan I talk about on the VLOG is here!

We’ve got an awesome running accomplishment from Liz today and if you would like to share YOUR running accomplishments then send them to—>     [email protected]

Liz!!!  “So this is actually about 3 months late (because it took me this long to make peace with the race).  I had been training since June for cross country- specifically, the league meet – with a goal of being top 25 in the race to get a medal.  The day before the race, I got super sick (lost my voice, coughing, super congested- a great combo for someone with asthma) but still wanted to run.  Long story short, I had an asthma attack a half mile in, threw up 4 times in 100 meters, and finished the race in something like 60th place- well off of what I had trained for.  Although I’m still bummed about how it went (I missed running Districts for my team because of how I did) I never gave up and I’m proud of that (and it’s a great story to tell for my last XC race ever;)”

We still don’t have snow in DC (I don’t count flurries) so I think I’ll take the kids to one of the skiing places and have fun this weekend.

Where do you find the chocolate covered cinnamon bears? I need to try them!

Reply

No snow still!?!? Come out to Utah and ski:) Have so much fun Lynn! So I get them at a store called Winco in our area and also the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory has great ones! I can send you some!!!

Y’all are seriously so adorable. :) And I love that you have family night once a week! I think that’s so special and so important, and I’m sure it’s something that will be very beneficial for everyone, especially Brooke and Knox as you all continue to grow as a family. The way y’all love one another and make time for each other makes my heart so happy. :)

I’m excited for this weekend! I’m going to visit my cousin and her family. I’ve been needing a little getaway for a while now, so I’m looking forward to spending time with them and just getting away for a bit. As for the pasta, I love angel hair with Ragu Alfredo with LOTS of Parmesan cheese on top!

I will always love chocolate covered raisins, especially the giant Costco container of them!

Love your vlogs! My 9 yr old also prefers to wear shorts all year long. He feels the cold but just hates pants. Those chocolate covered cinnamon gummies sound good. I love chocolate covered pretzels or strawberries. Have a fun weekend!

Elbow macaroni cooks so fast! I like to take diced tomato and sausage and sautee with onions and a little arugula with tons of fresh grated Parmesan cheese and top the pasta with it.
I’m excited to go to the mall with my boyfriend and his girls Sunday. and I think we are going to make tacos for dinner which is always fun.

Looking forward to: Watching my hubby coach HS basketball! And maybe ordering pizza… I’ve been craving it!

Ever since you’ve mention chocolate covered cinnamon bears I’ve been looking for them, but haven’t found them here yet! I love cinnamon bears and love chocolate, so I’d have to love them!!

Favorite Pasta: Bow Ties with homemade spaghetti sauce and meatballs. My mom is Italian and nothing beats her sauce recipe. :-)

Reply

I need to send you some… seriously! You will LOVE THEM. Best combo out there:) Oh I bet your mom’s cooking is beyond amazing, I want to come over to her house for some food! Enjoy watching the basketball with your husband coaching!

I’ve got my long run tomorrow – 10 miles, eek! First double digit run since by half marathon in October so I’m looking forward to that! Then it’s a case of eating my body weight in chocolate for the rest of the weekend – that’s acceptable right? It is still near Christmas… ;)

I LOVE pesto pasta!! That is my absolute favourite although your spaghetti & meatballs looks amazing! If I ever need to cook for the family it’s always spaghetti bolognase- my grandma taught me how to make it when I was little and it’s forever stuck :)

Reply

GOOD LUCK TOMORROW LAUREN!! You’ve got this and I am hoping you get as much chocolate as you want the rest of the weekend. Oh we are still within a month of Christmas so all you can eat junk food is still a thing;) YES, yes yes pesto is the best! Now I need you to teach me to make your grandma’s spaghetti bolognase! Enjoy your weekend Lauren!

Chocolate covered oreos are my favorite! They’re SO good.

This weekend I’m looking forward to rock climbing and starting to make my first batch of beer! My husband and I bought a home brew starter kit with some holiday money and I’m excited to get started :)

Reply

You are right… those are one of the best chocolate covered things ever. Now I need some. Oh wow, that is awesome Gretchen! Have a blast doing that this weekend and let me know how it goes! ENJOY!

My husband’s birthday is this weekend so I am looking forward to celebrating with him.

I like a bunch of different sauces, it depends on my mood. Red clam, arrabiata, putanesca, garlic and oil with vegetables, broccoli rabe with sausage, and vodka but marinara is go-to for basic week nights. I top it with whatever protein we’re in the mood for. Chickpeas are a nice topping when you’re in a hurry or don’t feeling like having meat
Right now I am loving chocolate covered espresso beans. But chocolate covered pretzels are my all time fave.

Reply

Have so much fun Nina with your husband and celebrating him this weekend! I am literally drooling over the sauces/combos you listed… can I come over for dinner? Yep, chocolate covered pretzels are amazing… the Trader Joe’s ones are my absolute favorites! Tell your husband happy birthday!

I’m glad you like them Alisha! I hope you have an awesome weekend!!!

Thanks, Janae! I hope yall have a great weekend too! Y’all are TOO cute. I love it. So fun!

I’m looking forward to my long run tomorrow. I’m in need of one long run outdoors. Besides, I got a hydration belt as one of my christmas gifts so I’m dying to try it out :)

My favorite type of pasta will always be Penne and Rigatoni. I also love Linguini a lot. My favorite sauce is Pesto and my favorite toppings are grilled chicken with roasted cherry tomatoes. This could vary in the next few weeks, because I love Italian food so much that I’m always switching my favorites.

Chocolate covered gummy bears sound absolutely amazing. I’ll have to keep my eyes open to see if I can find them here.

My dad makes the most amazing meatballs. They taste exactly like the ones my grandma used to make when I was a kid.

Love the vlogs. Question about your answer on supplements. Are you not using the probiotics and collagen that you posted about? Can you comment on what you liked/didn’t like about them? I know they’re all the rage right now and I’m curious about your experience.

Reply

HEY JENN!!! I still drink a probiotic drink and use collagen when I make smoothies (but we have not been doing that often because we are so cold here ha but I need to get back on that especially as a woman and runner for my bone and joint health )! My stomach is in a good place so I don’t feel like I need to take the probiotic pills right now daily outside of Kevita. To be honest, I fell out of the habit too of some of my normal things (like iron) just because we’ve been traveling so much. I’ve had great experiences with those things and I should be more regular but I guess I am way better at remembering them all when I am not feeling well (I know.. prevention should be my main motivation right rather than just treatment… last year with all of my digestive problems I was way more aware and focused on my gut health but really this should be a lifelong thing for me)… Sorry if I was so short on that question on the vlog… we made it at midnight ha.

It’s my dad’s birthday today so we’re doing a family dinner for him tomorrow at a German restaurant none of us have been to, so I’m very excited about that! I’m also weirdly excited for my long run tomorrow!

Fave chocolate covered item: Pretzels! I CANNOT have Flipz in the house or I will eat the entire bag in one sitting.

I’m also a huge fan of spaghetti and meatballs. My boyfriend is an incredible cook (thank goodness, because I am NOT) and he makes the bestttttt meatballs and homemade sauce. He also makes a killer carbonara too. Here’s a pic of the spaghetti, he just made it this week! https://anniesontherun.com/2017/01/04/getting-back-into-it/

Also, Janae, have you looked at Shalane’s Run Fast Eat Slow cookbook? There’s a lasagna in there with ground turkey and SWEET POTATOES. It has your name written all over it!

Reply

DOES IT REALLY!?!? I need that cookbook right this second. That sounds amazing… thank you Annie!! Enjoy your long run and bday dinner for your dad tomorrow at the German restaurant… how fun! Okay, it is almost 9 in the morning and I am ready to steal that bowl of spaghetti off the page from your blog! YUM!!!

Awwww that family night routine sounds so great! I need to implement that in my household. This week I will plan to teach my child (aka my cat) the lesson that he should not wake me up at 3am to feed him breakfast. This is a very important lesson for him to learn asap! :D

Can’t wait to watch your vlog when I get home from work tonight!

Reply

Love the family routine! I think that is something that Landon and I want to start with Benaiah once he gets a little older! Love watching your vlogs- you guys are the cutest!

Do you have any tips Janae about running a marathon postpartum? I want to run my first marathon (I’ve done a half) this late fall. Any tips on how to train for my first?

Thanks!

Reply

We actually got a solid amount of snow in NJ. I can definitely relate to the cross country post. I never had a season I trained for and honestly it took a long time to make peace with that. The beauty of running is there is always another race to run.

Reply

I am looking for a new cold-weather running vest. Do you have any fabulous suggestions that come to mind? Thanks!

Reply

We have no plans for the weekend and that makes me really happy after a busy holiday season!

I made spaghetti this week, too! Turkey sausage (lightly brown then I put it in the blender to chop it up finely so there is meat in every bite.) Plus marinara sauce, mushrooms, tomatoes, bell peppers. 5-6 hours in the crockpot for perfection.

I love the shorts comments to Andrew. We live in Alaska, and my son who is almost 16, wears shorts throughout the year. He LOVES wearing shorts!

Reply

Alaska + shorts= wow. HAHA Andrew feels less alone now. I love it! We want to visit Alaska soon. It is Andrew’s favorite place that he has ever been too and he has been all over the world!

Reply

Yes he LOVES his shorts! We moved up here with the idea of only staying 3-5 years, when our boys were 2 and almost 1… my oldest turns 18 this month and my shorts wearing youngest will be 16 in March.. I would love to meet you if you ever make it up here. We live in Anchorage.. it’s been the best place to raise our two boys! :)

Reply

That is amazing Tracy! It sounds absolutely amazing there! We will 100% let you know and meet up while we are there! So glad it has been the perfect home for you!

Reply

I’ve got some beautiful hikes and great trails to run on so let me know! :)

That sounds perfect!!

Every time you mention those chocolate covered gummi bears I want to try them!!! Still have never seen them in a store… I will have to keep looking :)

Reply

I need to send you some Ashley! I hope your weekend is an amazing one!

Reply

It is physically impossible for me to go to Winco and not get chocolate covered cinnamon bears and chocolate covered salted popcorn. Impossible.

And it’s alright if you craved more chocolate. You always have your chocolate lab ;)

Reply

I FORGOT ABOUT THE SALTED POPCORN. Get some tomorrow while you are in town:) HAHAHA yep, that is why I love Beretta!

Reply

Where is your cute black tobbagon from? And talk more sometime about your family night things. That sounds neat. I have two young kids. Do you guys just make up stories or come from somewhere?

Reply

I got it at a boutique here years ago called Called to Surf! I will definitely talk more about our family night activities! Andrew was telling stories yesterday from times when he told the truth as a kid (that was our theme) but a lot of times he comes up with great made up stories before bedtime etc.

Reply

House tour! House tour! I’d love to see a tour of your and Andrew’s home :)

Reply

That is a great idea! Thanks Taylor, we will have to do that soon!

When I was asking about cute black tobaggon I meant your hAt you had on in pictures. You guys might not call it that in Utah. I’m in Tennessee. But we call winter hats tobggons.
