The best of 2016, she came to visit and YOUR running accomplishments!

She came over.  I adore this person a whole lot.  We were very very close (we pretty much saw each other every day) when I lived in California and have stayed close over the years since I moved back to Utah.  She was in town for the holidays and we got to have her and her husband and little dude over for dinner last night.

You may remember me referring to her as Bangs Friend for many years because of her bangs back then… she always has the prettiest hair.  Both Knox and Brooke prepared gifts for her and put it at her spot at the table.

Andrew made his specialty (well, one of many)—>  Blackened Fish Tacos w/Avocado-Cilantro Sauce.

Absolutely heavenly.  We also brought out our house special of sweet potato fries (chop, coat with some olive oil and salt and bake) for the meal too.   That cilantro sauce is a little bit spicy and so perfect for fish tacos.

Her little one and Beretta became friends which was exciting.

And then we brought out the cookies (and ice cream but nobody wanted ice cream because these cookies are too good on their own).

Oh and two pictures of the kids playing with Andrew.  He is definitely the fun one.

We finished up our night with them with some Goodnight Moon reading.  I wish I had a count for how many times I have read this book.  We have added a twist though.. I now switch a few words throughout the book to something else and they always start giggling when I use a different word than what the book reads (yeah, they have it memorized completely).

Aww, it’s so good to see all of your great memories from 2016 again. I know it wasn’t a good year for a lot of people, and I’m definitely looking forward to a new year beginning. Even though it doesn’t change things, it just feels fresh. I’m also really looking forward to a three-day weekend to start things off. I’m thinking it will be full of froyo, football and REST!

I once ran a relay race at Zilker Park in Austin wearing a Wonder Woman costume. It was fun but also really HOT that day, and parts of the costume were not pleasant in those temps!

What an amazing year for you! My best news of 2016 : I got confirmation last week that I am starting my dream job in January. Five years of hard work to get there but I am so thrilled! My little one is a few years older than Brooke and Knox and he is into Pokemon books right now. As long as we are reading together, I am happy ha!

AHHHH MEL!!! That is so beyond exciting! Congrats on your new DREAM job! Oh I used to be into Pokemon when I was little too… haha I love that it has come back! So excited for you Mel, you deserve this!!!

That was such a great post, especially the links to your highlighted entries. I think the ED talk and Running and Periods really hit home for me. I hope you continue to blog about these things because we need more reminders on how and why to live a healthy life despite our diet obsessed and body image culture. You are a great example of living a life of priorities: God, family, kids, husband, hobbies (and not holding on to some false sense of security through controlling your food and manipulating your body). Thank you for being such a great example for me. I look forward to more of your posts and more VLOGS!!!! Much peace and happiness to your family in 2017. You are a blessing.

Thank you so much Alisha for your sweet comment! I really appreciate it and I agree… this all needs to be talked about WAY more in the running world because I know it is a huge problem for so many people. Thank you for taking the time to comment and thanks for the reminder to do more vlogs… sometimes I forget haha! THANK YOU and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

LOVED reading (reciting) Good Night Moon to my kids. Since they’re now 8, 13, and 18, that’s not happening anymore. But we also loved our version of Good Night, Gorilla. There aren’t many words in the book, so we came up with a storyline that we recited every time: “Good night, Gorilla,” said the zookeeper as he locked the cage. But the gorilla grabbed the keys. And the gorilla, the mouse, the banana, the pink balloon, and the sliver of moon followed him to the elephant’s cage. Then we add on each character as the gorilla sneaks them out of their cages and all follow along. But the kids always got a kick out of finding the mouse, the banana, the pink balloon, and the sliver of moon on each page. Silly, but really fun memories :)

While all your posts are good, one of my favorites was still your mom’s post and her pep talk still sticks with me :) I would love another post from your mom sharing her sweet wisdom!

My littlest loves Penguin and Pinecone and Rudolf the Rednose Reindeer. I am going to have to hide Rudolf though, because egads, that book sucks to read and I can’t take it for even one more time.

You had such an incredible year Janae. You and Andrew are great together, it’s so hard to believe you just got married this year. Your wedding dress was gorgeous. Do you have any big racing plans in 2017?

Reply

HEY GIRL!! I thought you were flying to Utah and we were going to get an awesome marathon time together?!?! Thanks girl and I hope you are having a beautiful weekend!

Reply

I’ve never worn an entire costume. Just bunny ears or a Santa hat. I did run an entire half marathon in the pouring rain in a rain poncho.
Three things this weekend: dog sitting continues until Sunday, running with friends tomorrow in NYC to see the rock center tree and dept store windows and I’m pretty sure my boyfriend and I will be going for our “last supper” of BBQ ribs before our healthy eating begins on Monday :)

One of my biggest highlights of 2016 is that I finally committed 100% to running. Running chased me in the past few years, and now I’m finally in love with it!:)

Oh I love this Nathaly:) Congratulations this year!!!

Goodnight Moon was one of my favorite books as a kid. Love seeing all these posts from throughout the year! Happy New Year to you and your family!!! Absolutely adore your blog and look forward to it everyday!

Your kiddos might enjoy this one too: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/1602190593/ref=tmm_other_meta_binding_title_0?ie=UTF8&qid=&sr=
I have the Oregon version, and my students love it, because they’ve visited a lot of the landmarks or have heard about them at least! :) Mo Willems books are fun, especially Knuffle Bunny and Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!

My husband and I bought each other a treadmill for Christmas. I’m excited to start the new year committed to being more active. I have definitely been in a slump the last year, and I’m already enjoying exercising at home! Only having my pups stare at me and the freedom to blast my music is very comfortable! This year has not been the best for me, but I’m hoping to end it on a positive and healthy note!

I hope you have a very happy New Year! I adore your blog, and I look forward to it each day! You are an inspiration in so many aspects of life!<3

Reply

GOOD NIGHT UTAH!?!? Yep, ordering it NOW! Thank you so much Jenny! I can’t wait. So excited that you have a treadmill now, I love this. I hear ya, having the option to exercise at home is the best! I am so sorry that this last year hasn’t been the best and I really hope 2017 is the best ever for you. Keep me updated with how you are doing. Thank you Jenny, enjoy your weekend and have a fun run on your treadmill tomorrow!!!

Goodnight Moon is such a classic book. As for my weekend I don’t have much planned. I start the new semester on Wednesday so this week I’ll be doing laundry and getting ready for school. The first few days back will be tough!

Reply

2016 has been quite a historic year for you with so many highs! The biggest high for me this year was definitely buying my first house and finally moving into it this month :).

That donut run sounds awesome! I’m not a big beer person, so I’ve never done one of the beer runs/races, but I would definitely do a donut run!

I said goodbye to my mom yesterday. She went back to Texas. I guess I really live in LA now. The highlight of my year was reconnecting with my mom. It was pretty rough for a few years.

Oh Elizabeth, I am so so sorry that you had to say goodbye yesterday. I am so glad that things are so much better with your relationship with her this year, that is a beautiful thing. You are amazing.

I just finished up my last blog post for 2016 and after calculating all my miles to write about it, I calculated my miles to equal 600 for 2016!! It has been an incredible year and looking forward to a healthy 2017 with double the miles!!

2016 has been quite the year for you!! Hope you and Andrew and the kiddos enjoy your 1st New Years together!!!!

2016 was a special year. I feel like the ups were amazing ( some great trips, getting to spend time with old friends, different job) and the lows were so, so hard ( being sick, losing a loved one). But looking back on it all I feel blessed because I got to experience those things, because I have amazing people in my life ( even if I don ‘t see them often or if they are no longer physically here), because I am loved.
I am also really grateful for your blog and your inspirational words.
Have a great last day of 2016 and a really amazing 2017!

Reply

Patricia, I am so happy that you had a special year. I am so sorry for the lows that you went through but what you said about being loved gave me the chills. I can relate to you because the hardest times I have been through taught me a lot about the fact that I am loved. Thank you for your sweet words, I hope your 2017 is incredible. Keep in touch.

2016 was a great year. After over 20yrs of running in which I would get injured and have to take time off only to repeat the cycle I finally completed my first marathon at the end of July: the San Francisco Marathon. I also did 2 half marathons over the course of the year and have stayed injury free. We also took some amazing trips to Hawaii, London and Paris and sold our home of 14 years and moved into a new one. Everyone in my family is healthy and we are truly blessed. Looking forward to what the new year brings. Happy New Year Janae!
